This was my family's first visit to Lennie's, which my father recommended and we stopped in to eat at on a Friday afternoon. The restaurant was not busy at all, as we were eating at an abnormal time of between 2-3 p.m. on Friday afternoon. The food was quite good - the tastes were unique, flavorful and memorable. I had one of the strombolis, which was on the large size and could have been shared with another adult along with a side item (e.g. salad). My wife had the French Onion soup, which other reviewers have raved about, and she loved it - it was a good-sized portion for her as well. My kids all ordered spaghetti - they thought it was pretty good, but nothing out-of-this-world. This is a nice, kind of "dive-y" restaurant, with friendly and efficient service and great-tasting, somewhat unique twists on American fare. The location is not the best for people not on foot (e.g. not college students walking), because it is tucked into a strip mall with not a lot of parking (and kind of tight spaces at that). I would come back if I was in the immediate area of Bloomington, but there are so many other restaurants in Bloomington to try and I don't think this one particularly stands out enough to make me come back again and again (given that I live 1.5 hours away from Bloomington). read more

Great place that deserves automatic respect for being the first of the two brewery pubs in Bloomington. I tried the beer sampler and here's how I rank them: 1. Big Stone Stout (rich and tasty - can't go wrong) 2. Ruby Bloom Amber (solid amber but nothing amazing) 3. Quarrymen Pale Ale (good pale, but there are better) 4. Vision Weiss (summer seasonal, pretty weak) 5. FreeStone Blonde (almost undrinkable, don't try it) Oh, I almost forgot, I also had the Cascade Hops cask ale which was fantastic. If they have that on tap, go for it. While I came primarily for the beer, I was almost more impressed with the food. Takes traditional pub grub to a new level. Homemade, fresh ingredients made my and my girlfriend's sandwiches very delicious. Despite what another poster wrote, I thought there was plenty of food, and it didn't make you feel weighed down with grease and processed chemicals like certain chain restaurants. The food is outstanding. My favorites are the Mushroom Chicken Tortellini and the Bacon Turkey Melt, but the pizza (thin crust, especially) is also great. The beer is amazing; the Ruby Bloom Amber Ale alone is worth a trip. They also offer a great brunch on Saturday and Sunday. The aren't a ton of options, but it's all delicious (chicken and waffles, y'all!). The regular menu is available during brunch as well. The bar side is especially fun; lots of friendly regulars, and no televisions. I wish more bars were TV free. The parking situation leaves a LOT to be desired; if you show up during the dinner rush, it's sometimes impossible to get a parking spot. Service is generally good-to-great. I highly recommend it, but try to get there during deader times. read more

I have been to Lennie's a handful of times since moving to Bloomington. I love that they always have some sort of unique offering, although I usually stick to the calzones or sandwiches. I have enjoyed everything I have ordered, but it hasn't been out-of-this-world delicious. I don't drink much alcohol, so the homemade root beer is a hit for me. I took off a coiple stars for a couple of reasons. The ambiance is not really my style. It can quickly feel cramped when there are a lot of people. I have also been seated directly under the air conditioning several times, but in different parts of the restaurant, so I have often been uncomfortably cold. I only go here when someone else suggests it, never at my own suggestion. All in all, if someone suggests going here I am in, but the food isn't all that outstanding. read more

I went there for the highly recommended BLT. But it's a lunch special and I got there late. So I changed to order a BTM to go. It's delicious, judging from my Chinese taste. The turkey is a little too salty, but come on--turkey is salty in every restaurant here. It can't order in half like BLT, and is just too much for me. I tried hard to finish half of it. Also I ordered chips going with it while fries are what I really wanted. Pleasant service. I'll have the BLT next time. Oh by the way, I think I might make a mistake! I forgot tipping! I have been going to Lennie's since it opened in 1994... It's always been great... The menu has a great variety and you cant really pick the "wrong" thing.. The Stromboli combos they have put together are all great, but I do love building my own as well. Pizza options are awesome and lots of combos as well featuring locally sourced meats, including the Loesch Farm pork products.. As for other options, awesome salads, including long standing favorite the Turkey Tortilla.... And appetizers are pretty outstanding with some of my favorite buffalo wings in the area. The one thing I might like to see is more dessert options, however I never have room for dessert anyway so its a moot point really. Now for the Beers.. I absolutely love The Quarrymen Pale Ale on Nitro tap, where they dont use the normal CO2 to give the beer the bubble... It comes out smooth and creamy like a glass of good milk. Ruby Bloom is a favorite as well. There seasonal beers are always interesting and they are constantly trying new things like a Kolsch and Cream Ale for the lighter beer drinkers... That being said seasonal beers break my heart sometimes cause when they go they are gone for the season... And finally the staff and management are professional, friendly and fun and they always seem to remember that you are their guest in their restaurant and make sure you feel welcome. Stopped for lunch. First time at the new location. Sad to see the inside. The old location had a defined separation between the bar and main dining area. The old location dining area seemed a bit more upscale. The new Lennies just a big room with no atmosphere. I would never come to this new location and sit at the bar and hang out, or dine in, just not the same. Food: had the pimento cheese app. The taste was quite good, especially with the cranberry crackers, but the amount served was ridiculous for $7.50. If there was even a tablespoon of pimento cheese I would be surprised. Husband had the Lennies Original. He said it needed more meat and it was lacking the bacon it was suppose to have on it, cost $14.25. So, miss the old Lennies. Don't know why they moved. read more

Disappointed. This was one of our regular stops back in the day. We hadn't been here in years. The reviews still looked good and thought we'd stop in. The food was fine, but expensive for what it is. We live in Chicago and don't pay $16.50 for a Cobb salad. The worst of it was the carding! My wife and I are clearly in our mid 40's. We have four children, our oldest is 13, and all were present. Our server asked for my wife's ID for a Bloody Mary. It was left in the car and he wouldn't budge. Not one other table around us was carded by him or any other sever. Trust me, my wife watched! One of mine and my husbands favorite spots in town! Although the parking lot, and restaurant, are small, we've never had to wait to get a table for the two of us. When we go for brunch, we wouldn't dare order anything but the chicken and waffles. They are absolutely to die for! At dinner time, we usually share a thin crust pizza, with white sauce and chicken...also excellent! The wedge salad with thousand island dressing is really great, but large. For dessert...the brownie sundae is something you should leave room for! It is AMAZING! Warm brownie on bottom, vanilla ice-cream, hot fudge, caramel, and chocolate shavings on top. Yum! I saw the rave reviews about the place so we tried it for dinner today. The food was okay. The prices were high for the food since the portions were small. We ordered sandwiches and pizza. The waitress had told us they serve huge portions but I was easily able to eat all mine. It was a small portion. I was given potato chips. Frequently go here both for the beer and food. Staff are attentive and the food is almost always excellent. They just moved downtown and I took a group of 19 to their new location on Kirkwood Thursday night (their second night in the new location). Everyone was very happy with the food and service. Lennie's is a restaurant I can't stop coming back to. It's a great one to stop in at for some local brews, or any meal of the day, as they also have weekend brunch. But be prepared - many, many people have the same thought and there can be a lengthy wait for dinner at times. The bar side is a faster option if you don't mind eating where it's a little louder and on a high-top table. My personal favorite on the menu is the create-your-own calzone. Their pre-determined options are also good too! I'm a fan of the pasta dish as well as many of their salads. Their portions are insane and you can almost guarantee leftovers, so don't mind the price. It might look like a dive from its strip mall location, but that shouldn't deter anyone from trying this gem!! read more

Lennie's is consistently good. Not great, but good. They have several mainstays on their menu that are lovely, and I swear their fries are the best anywhere! The beer is brewed on site and is generally very good. I like the Jerk Chicken Pasta and the Quesedillas. The roasted vegetables are good, too. Great lunch spot. read more

The ambiance is simple, but nice and the service has always been good for us even though we have had a different waiter or waitress every time (it is a college town). Prices are a bit higher than I like for the food, but they usually accommodate my extended family of 10-15 people at a time and everyone can find something they like. read more

I'm sure I don't have too much to add that is of news. The beer was very good (I had the stout). We had the caprese appetizer, and it was excellent with huge slices of tomato and chunks of mozz. The chili was supposed to be spicy, and maybe it was, but since I like spicy it was simply good. One great item is the gluten-free pizza crust. We had the California on this crust and I'd definitely get it again. The avo seemed extraneous, but not unwelcome. The stromboli is more of a calzone in my book, but that may be just a technicality. Pleasantly surprised! Atmosphere doesn't scream "college town" (which was great) and the crowd was a nice mix of college kids and "regular" people! I'm not going to lie the food was good, but just not great. My friends and I ate here for lunch we tried the chicken chili sandwich, the turkey bacon sandwich, the Lennies special and the Charcuterie platter to start all three suggested by many many yelp reviewers however I was disappointed in what you actually get for the price you're paying. I paid 64 dollars including tip for 3 sandwiches and an app, the sandwiches, served with plain ruffles chips aren't worth that sort of money. I will say the wait staff were very nice and the service was definitely fast but it was very subpar. Now I will say the beer selection is amazing so they do have that going for them I guess. If you're looking for a 12 dollar subpar sandwich then this is your place for sure otherwise I say eh...I've had better. read more

Was in town for college visit and kids were in the mood for pizza, parents for beer. Both were thrilled with this place. In-house crafts had very nice range, from currently in-vogue hoppy hitters to old school cream ale and stout. Beer flight was not on the menu but was readily provided when asked for (highly recommend to find your favorite). Food was excellent. Definitely more than i was hoping for, given college town and standard 'pizza-joint' environs. Appetizers were definitely above par. Crab-Shrimp dip was top flight and i heard the fried pickles were quite nice. Salads were solid, clam chowder was very nice. Pizzas / salmon / roll your own Stromboli were absolutely excellent. If my son ends up here in the fall i will definitely make this one of my default stops in Bloomington. Enjoy! read more
