I am a long-time fan of Lennie's! The pizza is superb, but my favorite menu is the Teriyaki Chicken Salad, with the house dressing. (It is a delicious vinaigrette with bits of bleu cheese--just wonderful!) The salad has tender pieces of marinated teriyaki chicken and the usual mixed greens, but also egg, cheese, snap peas, and almond slices. It is served with a piece of warm french bread and butter. We had lunch here on a Saturday, and were able to walk in without a reservation around 1:30, but it looked like the big brunch/lunch rush had just cleared out so a reservation is probably not a bad idea if you're coming earlier. I had the Irani iced tea, and it was excellent! Iced tea is so hit or miss, particularly in the winter, but this was definitely freshly brewed real tea. I started with a cup of the Voodoo chili which is labeled "spicier than most". It was not at all spicy, but did have really good flavor! I then had the wild beet spinach salad which was very good. At first I thought the beets were missing, but a nice portion of diced beets was hiding under the onions. The goat cheese and glazed pecans were plentiful and good. I opted for the olive oil and balsamic dressing which came in separate bottles. I do this at home for dressing so this worked for me along with the salt and pepper on the table, but just mentioning it as a heads up for anyone who doesn't want a DIY dressing. Service was great and the atmosphere was relaxed. The tables near the door do get a blast of cold air every time the door is opened, so I'd recommend trying to get a table closer to the back if possible during cold weather. read more

Lennie's was really nice, we sat outside and enjoyed the great evening weather and the hustle and bustle of the people walking around the street below. this restaurant is located just off of the campus so lots to see. Our Airbnb host recommended Lennie's for a meal, so we ventured through campus on a Friday night and ended up there for dinner on Kirkwood Street, steps from Sample Gates. The waitress recommended we sit on the second floor (didn't realize they had one) and seated us at a perfect high-top table with a view overlooking Kirkwood and the Sample Gates in the distance. It was quiet and secluded and we loved her seating choice. I was eyeing a healthy salad, but the Bacon Turkey Melt is their most popular sandwich since opening in 1989...so, I definitely chose that, with a side of cucumber slaw (refreshing, and made up for my no salad). The sandwich was enormous on fluffy ciabatta, mozzarella melted on top. I ate half the sandwich and ate the filling out of the second half. Stopped in to Lennie's on a Saturday afternoon and had a great meal! We were seated right away and served very quickly. They had several beers and ciders on tap to choose from. We each ordered a sandwich on the house bread and though I expected to have leftovers, I absolutely ate it all! The Original is a big tasty sandwich, just as you'd want a sandwich to be. This place cares about their customers' experience and it shows. My party and I arrived having forgotten my ID in the car, and as my partner left to grab it the owner Mike came to our table. He very graciously explained the restaurant's policy, took our drink order, and delivered it shortly after my partner came back with my ID. Our server, Ella, was absolutely lovely - and so was Devin! Took my family to Lennie's on move in day and it could not have been more perfect! We ordered a flat bread appetizer and were amazed when it came out with a whole bulb of perfectly spreadable roasted garlic! The bread, garlic, dipping sauce - all perfect. For our main dishes, there was something for everyone on the menu, the desert was delicious, and we ordered extra of the black bean soup 'to go' because it was that good! My last trip to Lennies was wonderful. The bartender was friendly from the get go, nice casual conversation, with solid beer knowledge. I got the wings as a starter, and they were crispy and the sauce had the right amount of heat. I went with the classic JM's favorite for my entree, and it was great as always. So they moved. Lol. My friend and I were very confused when we came upon this location. They were doing a busy lunch crowd so we were offered seats at the bar. We were so hungry so it was hard to decide what to eat. I chose the 1/2 chicken quesadilla and basket of fries, which comes with two choices of dipping sauces. I came here with my husband for my birthday dinner. It was a great treat! I got the house white wine which the waitress recommended when I asked for a sweet white. It was a good recommendation- I enjoyed it. My husband got the cardamom cream soda. Interesting! It was zingy almost like a ginger ale or ginger beer. The chicken and waffles were awesome! I really wanted some chicken and waffles and this was the first place we found that had it on the menu. It wasn't too busy there. When I read it on the menu, it only said "chicken breast" so I thought I was only going to get one piece of chicken. When the food came out, there were two pieces of chicken, which made it feel like a huge meal. So worth it. It came with butter and syrup. I don't usually use butter on any of my foods. This week, I was so excited to take part of my first Bloomington Restaurant Week. I had never been to Lennies before, and was so pleasantly shocked by my experience. My friend and I came in pretty late on a Friday night, a little over an hour before close, and I always feel horrible doing that because of the pressure it puts on the wait staff to close on time, but if the staff was phased, it wasn't visible. They showed me and my friend to a table after checking out temperatures at the door. We were both blown away by how well they were doing social distancing and observing COVID precautions. Not only was that impressive, but the food was amazing. As part of restaurant week, we tried their house wine (Pinot Grigio), homemade root beer, spinach and artichoke torta, wood oven fired pizza, and the original sin. Everything was phenomenal start to finish! Also our waitress was absolutely fantastic. She was very patient with our indecisiveness and our tardiness and walked us through any item on the menu we had questions about. I had such a positive experience at Lennies! Let me preface this by saying that change is hard. I was a huge fan of Lennie's when they were located on 10th Street. I have been trying to enjoy Lennie's in their new Kirkwood location, but the ambiance at the new place is lacking for me. It starts with the front of the house staff. The host/hostesses who we have encountered at the Kirkwood location just aren't as friendly or as well trained as we are used to at the previous location. Last night we asked if we could sit upstairs. The host and hostess looked at each other and said: "Go on up". Well, actually, the host/hostess needed to go up with us to seat us. We knew this from past visits but thought maybe something had changed or maybe there was a host upstairs. We got upstairs and were told that we could sit at the bar, but that the host/hostess (from downstairs) needed to seat us at a table. We ended up coming back downstairs and explaining that to the host and hostess. We got a table by the bar downstairs. Our server took our order and brought us beers. I am a big fan of BBC beers. However, at the Kirkwood location, the beers don't seem nearly as cold as they did on 10th Street. This is not the first time I have noticed it. This impacts the flavor for me. I was disappointed. Jean's cider was cold, but the beer was not that cold. Our food arrived, it seemed to take awhile. Yes, the restaurant was busy. Mike brought us our food, and it was delicious. We had a stromboli and pasta. Our server, at this point, was tending the bar. We eventually got her attention and got the check. The new location, at least downstairs, is loud. So much more than the 10th Street location. I know the owners have invested in noise abatement for the new place, but it is still uncomfortably loud. It was also very cold in the building. The entryway (which had a crowd of people standing waiting to get seated) allows for a lot of cold air to come in. We were a bit too far from the pizza oven to benefit from the heat if was throwing off. We are huge One World Enterprises fans, we frequent Jeff's other restaurant and pizza joint. We just can't get warm fuzzies for the "new" Lennie's, at least not yet. read more
