I didn't like the menu or the food or even the service, really. The loaded potato soup was needlessly adulterated with way too much flimsy bacon pieces and pretty much no potato bites. The spaghetti and meatballs were pretty bad-watery tasteless sauce, without telling you whether the meatballs are beef or pork (I think mine were pork, they didn't taste very good). I did appreciate the fact that they could serve us and the beer was tasty. I won't go back, I'm sorry. I've grown picky in my older years. It was a Sunday night, they were out of french fries among a lot of other stuff and that seems lame to me. I know the restaurant business is hard, I've been there plenty, but this is my opinion, and I am entitled to it. read more

I walked in after a hike nearby and was hungry. I ordered a full order of mushroom tortellini with a pint of their wheat ale. The food and service were five star, but the beer lacked flavor. I sat at the counter. There were no outlets to charge my phone with though, and my phone was in the single digits. Most brewpubs I have walked in on my travels have outlets under their counters. The ambiance was nice. All the servers were busting butt and managers were standing around on their phones. They really need to do that kind of stuff away from customers. Here's what you need to know: the flavor and baking not as good as it used to be, and the location is not nearly as charming as next to eigenmann hall on 10th, but the Stromboli was enjoyable and the stout from BBC (Bloomington brewing company) was good. Amazing specials today for St Patrick's Day. We had salmon appetizer, entrees corn beef & cabbage and stew and dessert whiskey cake with ice cream. Everything tasted fabulous. It was busy but that did not impact service. Emy was our server and she checked on us several times to see if we had any needs. She was very kind and friendly. Following a show at the IU Auditorium, we were looking for a spot that was open a little later, was able to take care of a few under 21 types, and had a nice variety of light bites. Lennie's was able to take care of us and then some. I had their Roasted Garlic Focaccia, which was served up nice and hot on their wood-fired oven. It has a delicious blend of caramelized onions and rosemary and a perfectly roasted garlic bulb on the side. Our high school kid was really happy with their spaghetti and meatballs and my wife was taken with the seasonal roasted veggies - some of the best roasted bell peppers I've had in a long time. All told, we would add this to the rotation when head down to Bloomington to visit our college kid. Excellent customer service and delicious menu options. read more

After walking in we waited at the hostess station, for a minute before being shown to our seats. Our hostess didn't say hello or welcome in no greeting, but that's beside the point. We were sat in the bar area at a table (we did not ask to be sat there). Well we had just gone out for a quick bite to eat and my girlfriend didn't bring her ID with her. We sat for about 10 minutes before our first interaction with our waitress. No waters were brought and this is when we found out that my girlfriend didn't have her ID with her. This then ensued the chaos of being asked why we were sitting in the bar. We said that they didn't ask and we weren't at the bar top but at a table in the bar area. The waitress then left us and went to speak with the hostess for another 5 minutes before moving all of our belongings to a table in the normal area. Honestly this is still not the biggest issue at this point. We thought we had everything covered to sit in the bar area while we weren't asked we waited patiently and were very open to moving. When we sat at our final table we were not served for 15 minutes. No waters, our a stopping by from our server to say that she was busy and she would be with us in a moment. We actually saw the server multiple times at the order kiosk area actually on her phone and talking to other servers. Lastly, it was not busy, there were a lot of open tables, and with the open style kitchen they have it's pretty easy to be aware and see that the kitchen was also not busy. Unfortunately, we will most likely not be returning we did end up ordering just their famous voodoo chili I believe and it was quite good, but not enough for the lack of service. Yesterday's lunch consisted of a cup of chili and a side salad from Lennie's ! When we went in, we were sat immediately and had our drink orders taken. The waitress was super friendly and had an absolutely killer vibe ! When I got my lemonade, it was so crisp and delicious. Definitely recommend ! The salad was super fresh and crisp. I had an Italian dressing with blue cheese crumbles. The onions were marinated to perfection, which gave them a really pretty pink/red color. I would have described the chili as being more of a stew or goulash. It was thick and actually had a kick of spice every bite or so. The tomatoes were cooked in it perfectly. As a chili, I wouldn't rate it very high on my list. But as a soup, it was really, really good ! My partner had a flatbread and it was cooked very well. You could smell and taste the char from the pizza oven. It had a lot of flavor and was definitely enough food for a lunch sized entree. The atmosphere was also fun ! The walls were painted in a very whimsical way. While we were there, they were plying some absolutely bumping club music. You can also see the giant dome pizza oven, which is pretty neat. I want to recommend everything here! However- I'll start with the delicious beer. BBC has a great IPA and Ruby Bloom is delicious. Their pizza... oh so good. Their salads! That house dressing! We had lunch here on a Saturday, and were able to walk in without a reservation around 1:30, but it looked like the big brunch/lunch rush had just cleared out so a reservation is probably not a bad idea if you're coming earlier. I had the Irani iced tea, and it was excellent! Iced tea is so hit or miss, particularly in the winter, but this was definitely freshly brewed real tea. I started with a cup of the Voodoo chili which is labeled "spicier than most". It was not at all spicy, but did have really good flavor! I then had the wild beet spinach salad which was very good. At first I thought the beets were missing, but a nice portion of diced beets was hiding under the onions. The goat cheese and glazed pecans were plentiful and good. I opted for the olive oil and balsamic dressing which came in separate bottles. I do this at home for dressing so this worked for me along with the salt and pepper on the table, but just mentioning it as a heads up for anyone who doesn't want a DIY dressing. Service was great and the atmosphere was relaxed. The tables near the door do get a blast of cold air every time the door is opened, so I'd recommend trying to get a table closer to the back if possible during cold weather. read more

Our Airbnb host recommended Lennie's for a meal, so we ventured through campus on a Friday night and ended up there for dinner on Kirkwood Street, steps from Sample Gates. The waitress recommended we sit on the second floor (didn't realize they had one) and seated us at a perfect high-top table with a view overlooking Kirkwood and the Sample Gates in the distance. It was quiet and secluded and we loved her seating choice. I was eyeing a healthy salad, but the Bacon Turkey Melt is their most popular sandwich since opening in 1989...so, I definitely chose that, with a side of cucumber slaw (refreshing, and made up for my no salad). The sandwich was enormous on fluffy ciabatta, mozzarella melted on top. I ate half the sandwich and ate the filling out of the second half. Lennie's proved to be an affordable, busy but not crowded, dining option on a Friday night in Btown. Highly recommend! read more

I am a long-time fan of Lennie's! The pizza is superb, but my favorite menu is the Teriyaki Chicken Salad, with the house dressing. (It is a delicious vinaigrette with bits of bleu cheese--just wonderful!) The salad has tender pieces of marinated teriyaki chicken and the usual mixed greens, but also egg, cheese, snap peas, and almond slices. It is served with a piece of warm french bread and butter. This is a delectable and delicious dish, and a wonderful treat. You must try it! read more

Stopped in to Lennie's on a Saturday afternoon and had a great meal! We were seated right away and served very quickly. They had several beers and ciders on tap to choose from. We each ordered a sandwich on the house bread and though I expected to have leftovers, I absolutely ate it all! The Original is a big tasty sandwich, just as you'd want a sandwich to be. We ordered a flat bread appetizer and were amazed when it came out with a whole bulb of perfectly spreadable roasted garlic! The bread, garlic, dipping sauce - all perfect. For our main dishes, there was something for everyone on the menu, the desert was delicious, and we ordered extra of the black bean soup 'to go' because it was that good! My last trip to Lennies was wonderful. The bartender was friendly from the get go, nice casual conversation, with solid beer knowledge. I got the wings as a starter, and they were crispy and the sauce had the right amount of heat. I went with the classic JM's favorite for my entree, and it was great as always. So they moved. Lol. My friend and I were very confused when we came upon this location. They were doing a busy lunch crowd so we were offered seats at the bar. We were so hungry so it was hard to decide what to eat. I chose the 1/2 chicken quesadilla and basket of fries, which comes with two choices of dipping sauces.
