This was an excellent seafood restaurant that we tried a few months ago while traveling through Westbrook, CT. We decided to grab dinner here after checking out their Google and Yelp reviews. Upon arrival, we could quickly tell by their packed private parking lot that it is a very popular restaurant. Everything that we ordered was seasoned very good, and we found everything to be delicious. They give large portions for the price, if anyone wants to share. Whenever we visit my hubs' family in CT every year during the last week of October, we never miss to make a stop at Lenny & Joe's for our classic New England seafood favorites: the fried clams and the Connecticut-style lobster roll with warm butter (my preference over Maine-style with mayo). The fried clams were lightly battered, golden, and crisp on the outside, yet tender and briny inside. It was fresh, not greasy, and came in a portion generous enough to share and enough for some leftovers too. The side of tartar sauce was creamy and tangy, but honestly, the clams were so good they didn't need much dressing up. The lobster roll, I must say is one of the best in the area. The lobster meat was sweet, plentiful, and perfectly cooked--no rubbery bites here. (In Cali, they seem to split the lobster meat into 2 or 3 rolls as there isn't much lobster meat). Served on a toasted bun with butter, it was simple, classic, and exactly what a lobster roll should be. The service was quick even though the place was busy. Stopped by Lenny & Joe's and had their ice cream with Reese's Cups mixed in, and it was absolutely delicious. The ice cream was creamy, the Reese's added the perfect amount of chocolate and peanut butter, and the portion size was great. I've been eating Lenny & Joe's since the days when the only way you could get it was ordering from a screen porch on a shed with high schoolers for cooks. It's still a destination and locals restaurant. Westbrook was very different from Madison when it opened and people flocked to it for the dine-in experience. Casual seafood spot to grab a lobster roll. We both had hot butter rolls with slaw. Solid portion of sweet lobster but my bun split on the bottom after second bite. We also shared fried pickles with a tangy ranch dipping sauce. The server informed us we could grab a drink from the cooler in the car so BYOB. The service was wonderful and our waitress was pleasant the interior had a seafarer's theme. We started our meal with a nice warm homemade loaf of wheat bread. I started my meal with the Shrimp Cocktail which was 4 huge shrimp with cocktail sauce. The shrimp was served with the entire shell on not just the tail but the entire shrimp, which I thought was a lazy way to serve shrimp cocktail as most places remove the shell, except for on the tail. I had the baked stuffed sole, the fish was flaky and fresh but the stuffing was supposed to be ritz cracker crumbs with crab meat, instead it was greasy buttered seasoned bread crumbs, not a bit of crabmeat or even ritz crackers in sight. The fish was served with mixed vegetables and boiled potatoes. My boyfriend had a cheeseburger, as doesn't eat seafood. On a Friday evening at the beginning of the 2025 Labor Day weekend, I had dinner at Lenny and Joe's Fish Tale Restaurant in Westbrook, CT. One night earlier, I had dinner at Trattoria Dal Forno in North Haven, CT. The North Haven restaurant does not describe itself as a seafood restaurant, although seafood is a part of their menu. Since Lenny & Joe's does describe itself as a seafood restaurant, I expected my order of scrod wood be of at least the same quality as a restaurant that didn't specialize in seafood. That was not so. The quality, presentation and seasoning of my scrod at Lenny & Joe's was unacceptably bland. I was the guest of my niece and chose not to send my meal back to the kitchen. Instead, I only tasted my dinner and chose not to eat it. The meal came home with me, but I intend to throw it out. Service was very good, but the ambiance was extremely noisy. It was very difficult to have a conversation. I found the noise level annoying. If it wasn't for quality service, my rating would have been no stars let alone one star. All in all, I wish I had not accepted the invitation to Lenny & Joe's. It was a waste of my niece's money. read more

We usually start our summer off with a visit to Lenny & Joe's in Madison. We enjoy the outdoor area with the picnic tables and the BYOB is nice too. We made our first stop of the season there this past weekend and we were a bit disappointed. The prices are up and it seems the portion size is down. They are putting the food on smaller plates to make it seem like you're getting a lot, but it doesn't take much observation to see that the portions are less. We got calamari as an appetizer and it was a small portion for the $16.99 price and it was a bit greasy. I've had way better elsewhere. The 2 way combo no longer has scallops as a choice, but they are available for 2 bucks extra. Our bill was $107.31 for the three of us without drinks. The food quality was just OK. We got our usual ice cream and found that also to be very expensive at around $6.00 for a small portion. It might be time to find a new "go to" place. Stopped in with my parents after shopping at the outlets. It was our first time here in 15 years and it didn't disappoint! I had the shrimp scampi with onion rings and mixed veggies. The scampi sauce was delicious, so buttery and flavorful and came with about 12 shrimp (I started eating before I took the photo). This a great spot to go for some really yummy seafood dishes. My favorites are the fried shrimp and the shrimp scampi. We were here recently (which is definitely the off season) and it wasn't super busy so we got seated quickly and the waitress was very prompt and helpful. This place can definitely get super busy during the summer but they have always had good staff and managed moving diners in and out very efficiently. My father-in-law always gets the swordfish and my husband usually gets the clam strips. That Lobster Roll 10/10. Blue Point oysters delicious although they gave me some really small ones. The seafood here is fresh and tasty! The waitress was kind and attentive. This is a really solid authentic no-frills coastal New England seafood joint. Atmosphere/decor -- think greasy spoon meets inside picnic tables. Lots of great newspaper and art from the past 4-5 decades on the walls. This is the opposite of pretentious. Casual, casual, casual, but upbeat and fun down to earth style. Service -- was fairly good. It's big and at times hectic so lots of different servers and assistants coming by to fill up drinks and remove finished dishes. Our young kids spilled a few things and they came over with napkins and/or to help clean it up quickly. Food arrived a little later than you'd hope with young kids (and asking for a few dishes as soon as they're ready) but not unheard of. Food -- awesome grilled, fried, and broiled seafood options. You get a mountain of food with some of the combos. We definitely over ordered. Love that the kids dishes came with so much food and had some healthy side alternatives besides brown/white fried everything. Good bit of options for folks who aren't eating seafood and/or want some healthy alternatives but it's mostly typical americana fare. Drinks -- lots of good beers, including some regional and local microbrews, range of sodas, or concoctions. Price -- your typical down to earth yet seafood ain't cheap prices but slightly less so. Went to one of my favorite places to eat until this last visit.. I believe they have a new owner because nothing tasted the same . The chowder was bland I always get the hot crab roll my absolute favorite but was told that they had not had it for several weeks. So I chose a fish sandwich onion rings was so mushy the batter just fell off . I immediately sent it back. My friend ordered a salad with steak it was very plain for a large salad meat was tough . For decades I have been enjoying fried clams at both locations. Until today, in Madison. The clams were undercooked. I sent them back. They were returned still undercooked. The server explained the clams were so large that it was impossible to cook them adequately. I don't know if that makes a lot of sense but is it healthy to eat undercooked shellfish? To be fair the server offered to take them back again and bring me whatever else I wanted but after two long waits I had run out of time.
