While the pantry staples are pretty consistent, the fresh foods do change, in particular the fruit. To be fair, they may not have the wide selection of all fruits, but what they do have is generally what's in season. Don't expected much organic, which sometimes they do have... but do expect the conventional food selection to be basically rock bottom pricing. The ambiance is not Whole Foods, but just clean shelves, lots of essentials, and great prices. The service is good, assuming you need help, and the check stand workers are friendly and fast moving. Exactly what you want for a grocery store. ProTip: As of today's review, I recall Debit is minimum is $5, and Credit is $10... otherwise bring cash. Had stopped by after grabbing lunch to check out a few things and they have deals that not even Chinatown can compare to. We found sriracha at pre shortage prices and a bunch of fresh good fruit. I love having this place in the neighborhood to get all my Asian staples. The only key ingredient I haven't been able to find here is miso. Some of my past Asian groceries here include: curry paste, fish sauce, mochiko flour, and coconut milk. Their produce is also very reasonably priced. Boy, I am upset. I was initially really excited when I entered this market - they had a really good selection of fruit and veggies with lots of other great goods packed into a little store. Very great. However, I am really upset about an employee here. I was looking at the yucca and, as anyone who cooks with yucca knows, you must crack the yucca to see if it is bad or not. Yucca has a very dark skin and a very white inside - so you cannot tell if it is black and rotten from the outside and must crack it to see. So I was cracking the yucca and placing the good ones in my basket to buy. I then cracked one and it was completely rotten inside... so I placed it back as no one wants to buy rotten veggies. However, this large man came up to me telling me whatever I crack I have to buy. I informed him that I am buying, just look at my basket full of good yucca; however, like everyone else in the universe, I do not want to buy bad yucca. He insisted that, still, whatever I inspect I must buy. This really doesn't sit right with me as I clearly had a full basket of fruits and veggies to purchase - I was just checking this yucca to not buy rotten yucca. And I feel this is something very reasonable because, well obviously, I don't think they want to be selling rotten produce. Ugh, I am sad because this market looked so great. I will be going back soon because, hopefully, this was a one time occurrence, but as of right now, I am very disappointed. read more

Having passed by this place for YEARS.....I finally had the chance to check out this cute lil shop at the recommendation of my mom. If you're looking for reasonably priced fruit/produce/Asian spices and sauces, Lenny's is a perfect one stop for all. With a wide selection of various Asian items (Thai, Viet, Chinese, etc) + Mexican pastries and other odds and ends, you can definitely find something to eat/use. Overall, the store itself is pretty small but well organized. I enjoyed shopping here a lot since it's pretty easy to find stuff and oh boy.....The prices are pretty competitive compared to nearby stores. In addition, the quality of the fruits and produce is pretty great. In gist - Highly recommend checking out this store if you're in a hurry to shop or want to check something out. :) read more

This is one of those hidden local gems that I wish to tell everyone about! For one thing, I love the selection of produce they have. I feel like what they sell has been thoughtfully procured and very reasonably priced! The people running the store are all super friendly and helpful as well. The place is also conveniently located next to bus stops so I can just hop on and off, on my way home from work. They carry your basics like bananas, onions and fresh greens but it's the diverse selection that gets me excited! You can't imagine our surprise when we came across fresh chanterelles and matsutake pine mushrooms, at incredible prices even! It sure beats spending the time and gas, having to drive all the way out to the mountains just for a chance at some of these prized mushrooms. Also, the variety in tropical fruit like ripe papaya and guava will make any Southeast Asian giddy with excitement! Walking in here is an adventure every time. I am always finding myself turning to my wife and going, "Wow honey! Look, they sell these!" It makes for a great excuse to come back whenever we're in the neighborhood. read more

Excellent produce at a great price. During this winters snow storm, Lenny's was my saving grace! I was unable to get my car out and get to the store. Lenny's was open and super convenient, they had lots of fresh produce I was able to make some delicious Tom Kha, some salads, and have fresh fruit for breakfast. I really enjoy walking the store to see what new treasures I can find, and get ideas for recipes to make at home. read more

I stumbled upon Lenny's by accident. I have driven by the place a few times but never had time to stop in. Yesterday, while on my way home from Northgate Target, JB Garden actually caught my eye first. I was in the left hand lane, and thought, I might as well turn in and check out JB Garden and grab a snack before I go home. Right after I parked, I looked up and Lenny's was right next store! Of course a place with cartons of produce is going to lure me in. Besides going to 99 Ranch, I haven't found a cheap local spot for produce. Well this is your place! I think it is Ukrainian owned, but has a lot of Asian varieties as well. They have bins of: tomatoes onions melons mangoes pineapples Cheap greens too. I walked out with my favorite Asian rice crackers, a carton of strawberries, a mango, onion, and some tomatoes, for less than $5! Loving this spot! When paying they ask if I want to buy a bag for 10 cents, or they offered me a box for free. I like that option! Reusing boxes they get from their shipments (sorta like Costco)! read more

Once a while only when I passed by I stop by the stand to buy small things. Their parking size is very tight so that I don't stop by that often. I used to buy beans sprouts, but I don't see it anymore. People working there don't talk to customers that much, but once you talk to them, they are friendly. Such a great fruit and veggie stand. I've been coming here for years and they always have been the best place for buying produce at prices that don't make me want to pass out. I can buy a big box of produce for $20-40 (in a regular grocery store the same amount would cost $100 or more!) They also have a dried goods/pantry area for sauces, tea/coffee, cookies etc, as well as cheeses and fresh pitas and tortillas. It's a great place to come shop. read more

Wow this multi-ethnic neighborhood market is amazing--so international, Ukrainian, Pilipino, East Asian, Middle Eastern, Eastern European, Jewish and halal foods...just some of what I noticed not as much in the way of sub Saharan African or Caribbean except for some spices and root veggies that usually cross over. prices are really pretty good for Seattle plus you're supporting a family store. The produce looks fresh and good quality--not organic, and mostly what you should buy if you're planning to eat that day which is as it ideally should be! I got a little over 2 normal size bags worth of groceries for $50. The family working here is super kind too. It has a family store feel which is also nice. When I was in the process of moving up to greenwood I was sad at the thought of living further away from the ID, where i get Asian ingredients I can't find at chain groceries. I now no longer feel that way thanks to the reviews on this place! Lenny's is a walk away from my house and it's crazy how inexpensive their produce is. I was very happy to find they carry sriracha and Jufran Banana Ketchup for under 2 bucks a bottle. To give you an idea of how affordable this place is, this is what I purchased: Jufran Banana Ketchup Sesame oil Sriracha 5 apples 1 bunch of bananas A bag of baby carrots 3 zucchinis mushrooms 1 purple yam All this came out to roughly $14. Pretty sweet if you ask me. Side note: They carry various ethnic items such as Injera (Ethiopian bread), Asian sauces, pasta, and Ukranian products. read more

This is a gem in the Greenwood area. Take some time and peruse, there's a lot to be seen here. And the prices are truly awesome! I don't know their source. Someone posited that they might have fallen from a truck... but at any rate, you can leave with a sack full of fresh fruit and veg for cheap. They also sell Asian goods and Ukrainian food items, both worth rifling through if you have the time. If I cannot make it to Top Banana in Ballard, I'll swing by here for the fresh goods! I heard great things about Lenny's Produce so I decided to check it out. If you go at 5 p.m. parking is a little hard to find but still worth coming here. The produce looked very fresh and ripe. it was all very VERY affordable. If you go across the street the QFC, the price appears almost double to what they charge here. The vegetables are comparable to the prices that you see at the Korean markets. I made a couple of dishes with the vegetables that I bought here and they tasted great. They also lasted for a while so I don't think they sell you almost expired food. The only minor issue that I had with this place was that it was on the dirtier side. The draw of Lennys it the price. They have a solid selection of good vegetables and fruit at a great price. Don't want to pay 2.99 a lb for apples at Safeway? Stop here and pay .99 . A recent trip garnered 1/2 a lb of eggplant, a lb of peaches, 2 green peppers, a head of cauliflower, a lb of broccoli and 2 cucumbers for 7.00. That's a steal Just be careful as you pick out the produce, sometimes you'll blunder into something on the shelf that is overripe. Pay attention to what you are getting and plan to use it in the next couple of days. Follow my advice and you will be a-ok read more

This is an awesome little neighborhood produce shop, with a tiny canned/dry good section as well as an indoor-outdoor fruit and veggie market. Prices are awesome here, and while they didn't have a huge selection, they do carry some specialty items. I almost grabbed a pint of black figs because they were a steal at 2.00, but were a tad overripe for my liking. I settled on some chinese long beans, some mushrooms, a knob of ginger and a head of garlic. Total damage: $1.85. Yeah. I'd come back for cheap produce any day, because I don't have a budget for organic everything, which you won't find here, and i'm not too picky about how I ingest my pesticides and chemicals, personally. read more

Props to Lenny for their cheap veggie and fruit prices! It's usually always cheaper to buy at Lennys than to go to Safeway or QFC (even if they are having a special in their weekly circular). Only drawback is the quality...most of the time it's in good shape, but you'll have to keep your eyes open for bad batches. The turnover is high, so have no fear, more veggies/fruits will be brought out in the next day or two. Warning about the veggies - they don't last as long as grocery veggies do b/c it's usually sold when they are about to peak or reach their prime. My CostCo snap peas will easily last me sans mold for 1-2 weeks...my Lennys snap peas will last me sans mold for 3-4 days. I have never had quality control issues with the heartier stuff (potatoes, apples etc.) read more

This place is Disney Land for food. There's lots and lots of produce at really good prices - 50 cents for a lemon, 79 cent avocados, Chinese eggplant 99 cents a pound! There's every kind of sauce you can imagine. Fresh bay leaves! Banana leaves. Dried limes! I have to go back to get the dried limes. What was I even thinking? All sorts of noodles, spices, vegetables I've never even heard of. I bought a jar of a mysterious pickled something that looks like it's from another planet, called pacaya. Turns out it's some kind of palm from Guatemala. I'm not planning to open it, just leaving it around to scare people. read more

So I went to go check out a long-overdue local resource for food shopping, right in my own neighborhood - Lenny's Produce at 105th and Greenwood. I've been passing by it for years now, but never went in. I finally stopped by there with a friend after a tip-off that it's a great place to get cheap groceries. Short review: In general I was pretty pleased with the low prices and good selection of fresh produce. The roma tomatoes were the cheapest I've seen anywhere, other than at some of the Asian markets like 99 Ranch, at 89 cents/lb. Similar low prices for a lot of the other things I buy a lot of like onions, shallots, garlic, ginger, potatoes, cilantro, etc. Some of the fruit weren't the best, to be honest, and looked like they could have been a little fresher, but the mangoes I bought were pretty good. Overall, it was a great find, and I'll definitely be going back, especially since it's a straight shot 5 minutes away from my house. They don't take EBT unfortunately, so it's cash or credit only. read more

Yes! Look past the surroundings and look at the product. Closely. Now look at the prices. Closely. Now look at the other customers. Closely. If you are looking for excellent prices on a variety of quality produce, and don't mind struggling just a little bit with the parking and the barely-there elbow room, you'll find that this hole-in-the-wall produce stand does something that is increasingly difficult to find - a market experience in the true sense of the word - the product varies, due to high turnover, but if you are slightly flexible as to what you are looking for, and are willing to examine everything that is offered for sale, you won't go away empty handed. The prices are great. The quality is perhaps a bit hit-or-miss, but no more than a normal grocery, and indeed, I'd rather have an overripe choice or 5 thrown into the mix instead of the underripe garbage that you usually find in the regular grocery store. Just got some awesome nectarines and some sweet looking zucchini. Go there and eat happy, and save a buck-or-two. read more

Duh people, don't buy something here if it's about to go bad. Yeah, it doesn't always stay fresh for a whole week, but eat your crap when you take it home, don't expect it to last forever. Shop here before you go to the regular grocery store, as they might not always have what you wanted. I usually leave here with no more than two huge bags of fruits and veggies, and the bill is never over $20. They're especially great for herbs (bag of basil .89, italian parsley .99, mint 1.99) and random exotic fruit (jack fruit, dragon fruit, kumquats, etc). If there's something cool here, it'll probably be gone in two days, so stock up. The stock is unpredictable, but they always have the staples (onions, bananas, tomatoes, apples, lettuce, and the like). If you manage your expectations and have a game plan, this place is awesome. read more

Today's finds: $0.49/lb for gala apples, $1 for 2 cucumbers, $0.10 for baking bananas, $1.29/lb grapes, and best of all- $1 for a whole box of blackberries- If lucky, QFC or Safeway would be charging $2.50 for a box. Wohoo!! Fruits and veggies for 2 people for a whole entire week = $15. Can't beat that (except maybe at some of the Asian markets in ID). Parking is hard to find but they do have their own lot. You'll have to squeeze your way around since it's a small store packed full of people. We're definitely coming back for more. read more

When I first came here, I honestly did not think anything of it. If it weren't my for my fiancée, I would have never found this place. I am so glad I did! This place is a gem! You can find high quality produce for a very cheap price. For example, Kale at Safeway or Fred Meyer usually costs around $1.99+. Kale here is either 79 or 99 cents. Cucumbers are buy 3 for a $1 and 5 pounds worth of carrots are around $2. All prices that you cannot find at your typical grocery store. You can also purchase packaged foods such as noodles, along with an assortment of common and hard to find spices & sauces. There are even some hard to find items such as aloe vera, bitter melon, plantains, enoki mushrooms, etc... Some negatives to this place is that the facility itself feels like you are in a garage (it is essentially an outdoor stand) and they don't have any organic options. The parking is also pretty difficult if you come around 5pm. Overall, I go here once a week to get produce and I am very pleased with my purchases here. I've gotten to know the staff here and they are really friendly. They will usually put all your food in a box similar to Costco or you can ask for a plastic bag. If you plan on using a card, keep in mind it's a $10 minimum. read more
