Dr. Sanchez was great with our elderly chihuahua until her passing. He helped break down our end of life plan with her and was empathetic to our situation. All of the front of the house workers, such as Sonia and Alicia were wonderful to talk to and made every visit a personal connection. While I'm sad that I'll no longer be able to bring my friend into the vet, I will never forget how friendly and helpful everyone there was. I take my dog to see Dr. T. She's lovely. Very sweet and gentle with my older dog and great to work with. She's experienced, knowledgeable, and was always willing to spend time researching my dog's symptoms and calling me later if she couldn't figure out his issue right away. Sadly, the other staff are so painful to deal with that I had to move my dog to another practice. Appointment wait times are long because they overbook, they lose paperwork, their systems are often down, they consistently botch my online prescription orders, and they just generally lack professionalism. Just look at how the head of the practice, Dr. Putter, responds to every negative review on yelp - that's not how a professional beha. I know it's hard to find a good vet in this neighborhood but I'd recommend you avoid this place. The prices are high and every visit ends up being a stressful experience for both me and my dog. I'll miss you Dr. T. You are a truly great vet. If you ever open your own practice in the city, I'll be there in a heartbeat. From the moment you call for an appointment, until the moment you leave, you and your fur baby are treated incredibly well. I've been to this office 3 times so far and plan on going back whenever i need to. The front office staff, the vet techs and the veterinarians themselves are all wonderful people! My pup is never scared going in, he is excited and looks forward to all the loving he gets from everyone there. I just love how kind and patient everyone there is. Anthony the vet tech and Dr. Sanchez the veterinarian are both so helpful and they answered my questions without making me feel rushed or judged for my inexperience. And they don't just answer a question - they will thoroughly explain their answer to ensure you understand *why* they've given you that answer. The ladies in the front (Veronica and...?) are both friendly, welcoming and incredibly efficient. I love the high quality personal services provided at Lenox Hill Veterinarians! The owner, Larry Putter, cares about my dog as if it was his own and tries to minimize the costs of treatments. There are no "boarding fees" if I have to leave my dog at the hospital for a partial day and I like that he provides the three year rabies shot instead of the two year shot that a previous veterinarian dispensed. In emergencies, he makes house calls and responds quickly to phone calls. For my prior dog, who was in neurological crisis, he stopped by my home on the way to the airport to help out. If you want a top personal and compassionate doctor at a reasonable cost, this is the veterinarian hospital you should go to. I would not go anywhere else!!! read more

We brought our blind and mostly deaf 10.5 King Charles into the clinic as he had recently fallen down the stairs and was still limping after 10 days. Dr Sanchez was able to zero in on the issue that our East Hampton vet hadn't and explained the options to us clearly and compassionately. After the first procedure didn't have the desired effect (his femur popped back out of the hip socket after 4 days), we had to make a very difficult decision. Dr Sanchez, who we got to know over that single week, returned all our calls, held our hand and explained clear-eyed the different options to us for Oliver. The doctor showed empathy, understanding, humanity and a clear love of animals. We have decided to use him as our primary vet when we get our next pet. read more

2 stars for the staff, zero for the doctor. I have been at LHV before. It would be a long story but my dachsen got sick, she was vomiting and had diarrhea. Pretty basic I would think but I took her there anyways only to have ultrasound done and the doctor ("doctor" Putter) even suggested that I leave her overnight. I got worried and started crying and he gave me this look of "c'mon now". I ended up paying $700 for an upset stomach...ok... Few years later I came home to find my dog with a swollen face. I took her to LHV just because they are the closest to my place. I made the mistake of accepting the next available doctor (dr.Putter again) he really outdid himself this time. In the most condescending and arrogant way he let me know how my dog needs root cannel treatment that's around $2000. I told him not to go ahead with paperwork and blood work because I don't have a spare $2000 to which he replied that my dog is overweighed and basically asked me how am I going to pay $5000 (that's how much he said) for a back surgery in the future. I took my dog, we went to have a second opinion by a different doctor and check this: she had an allergic reaction and a shot of benadryl took the swelling away. Do I need to say more? Assistants are really nice though and I think we saw another doctor once there and she was really nice. Only this doctor Putter needs a reality check. read more

I've been bringing Tiny, who's a 5lbs teacup yorkie, to Dr Tom DeVincentis for a few years now. Tiny has suffered from terrible skin allergies year round since he was only weeks old. He's seen multiple vets and we've tried everything from different brand dog foods, organic dog food, prescription food, pills, shampoos and conditioners, organic dog friendly lickable ointment to apply, holistic medicine. I did tons of research on remedies just to help Tiny. It breaks your heart to see him scratching and scratching, day in & out, and getting horrible raw skin from all the scratching. I've finally found a treatment that works. He gets one shot, usually every six months with Dr Tom. I'm very thankful for Dr Tom and his treatment plan. Ever since Tiny has started these shots he's been 100% better. We've noticed when his shot starts to wear off, he'll start to scratch again gets raw patches and it's off to Dr Tom for a check up and shot. Dr Tom is an amazing Vet! He's so kind and loving on my baby. He's the only vet I 100% trust with the care of my pets. He has years of experience and so much knowledge when it comes to treatment. read more

The WORST rip-off 'artists' in the business. My dog went in with a urinary tract infection, and left on an inappropriate antibiotic and work-up-for over $1,000!! As a human doctor I understand medicine-others wouldn't even realize how bad the treatment was. These vets just look to rack up the bill-and they aren't very good at the medical part of their specialty! They are VERY good at the money part. As the expression goes- 'I wouldn't even send my dog to them...' Addendum- They recommended that our dog get a $500 ultrasound (U/S)-we said we would think about it. After realizing that there was nothing the U/S would show that was actually treatable we decided not to have it done. Well the day rolls around when Lennox Hill has its' U/S tech in-and we got multiple calls reminding us of our appointment (which we had NEVER made) for the test. We finally called them to let them know that we had no such appointment-but they didn't want to take 'No' for an answer. Clearly they were looking to cover the U/S tech's fee-and we were part of their plan for that day. Once again, my insight as a human doc saved us $500. I doubt that Lennox Hill would have been nearly so aggressive in pursuing a test that billed $5 rather than $500!!! Suspicions confirmed... They showed their 'hand' in this matter-and the hand looks dirty to me (not good for a doc...) Addendum #2 Fortunately our dog is doing well on the appropriate medication regimen. And a new vet! The response below is expected, but the antibiotic choice and dosing was simply wrong. The patient (our dog) cannot medicate herself-NY State laws being what they are. Luckily as a physician I could help in her treatment. I took my cats here seeing the five star reviews. However, they must've had a staff change because everything I experienced there wasn't how it was described in the reviews. The front desk clerk was indifferent, the vet seemed not to care, and I swear the vet tech wasn't trained properly. I say this because I got their nails trimmed there. When they got back, I inspected their claws and noticed how short they were trimmed. In fact, one of my cats' claws was cut so short that it was bleeding. The vet tech must've used really blunt scissors because their claws were split and jagged and it looked like someone tried to chew them off. They were really expensive and didn't offer a payment plan. I feel like I was ripped off by them. Maybe they're better with dogs than cats. If you have a cat, don't go there. read more

I love love love Lenox Hill Vets. We took my first cat there when we first moved to the Upper East Side and I thought they were great. Also pretty reasonably priced (I compared to my Mom's vet upstate and prices are about the same) When my second cat got very sick days after we got her from a shelter in Albany, I brought her here. Dr. Klane was SO patient and spent over an hour with her. She had 30-day insurance from the shelter and they were lightning-fast about processing it. Their vet techs are also really great. My kitty needed all kinds of medicine and to get her ears cleaned and the tech was patient and comforting. I can't see bringing my little kitties anywhere else. read more

The practice is well managed and well run, but you MUST be timely and make an appointment in advance. Dr. Carol Pigman is THE BEST vet we've seen. There was one vet here who was a crappy phlebotomist - but I think she is gone now. I wonder if Jenny - the super-sweet red headed vet tech is still there? She loved our little Otis Ray. My baby girl was suffering from an episode of gastroenteritis and made several trips to Dr Putter for 4 straight days following an ER visit. We were treated compassionately and provided with the highest quality of care. Unlike many places in the city, Dr Putter is not looking to take advantage of his patients, his primary concern is the well being of animals and providing affordable care to the people that love them. He even took the time to call and check in on her. His vet techs and reception staff were equally caring (this is the first time my dog was comfortable in someone else's arms during an exam). This is a terrible place that is just out for your money. The vet was condescending and was just trying to find ways to charge you more money. I ended up spending over $450 for my first visit which was free due to a card I recieved in the mail for first time customers. That $450 was for blood work which was not needed and a rabies shot which I don't feel was needed for an indoor cat. My cat has a little bit of gingivitis and supposedly needed a tooth pulled. They gave me an estimate for that which was going to be $1,500!!!!! ARE THEY CRAZY! I can't believe they can take advantage of people like that. read more

I went to this vet for four years (from the time my dog was a puppy). I scheduled a routine dental cleaning with Dr Putter (my dog was 4 years old at the time). When I left my dog with the clinic I left with the assumption that the cleaning would be performed by Dr Putter. Prior to the procedure, I got a call from another vet - Dr U - to inform me that my dog's liver enzyme results could not allow the procedure to occur on that day. This began a series of tests (blood work, Ultra sound) that eventually led Dr U to prescribe Metronidazole (in addition to another medication) to my dog at the end of June (2013 - the following incident occurred in 2013). I was very concerned about the amount of medication I was giving my dog and questioned this with several people including Dr U, a vet tech, and the owner over the course of the ~4 weeks that she was on this medication. I was told that the prescription was fine each time I questioned it. In the end, the dosage that was initially given - and renewed - was 4 times the recommended amount for her weight. After being on the medication for roughly 4 weeks, she suddenly lost the ability to walk and began having seizures. I rushed her to the vet where Dr Putter discovered that she had overdosed on the Metronidazole. Dr Putter treated my dog over the next week (I looked after her at night as they did not have an overnight tech at the time and I did not want to leave her alone). Thankfully, after one of the worst weeks of my life, she finally recovered. All they had to do is look at the dose (once) during all the times I questioned this to spot this massive error. I have since been told that Dr U is no longer with this veterinary clinic. read more

Went here for an initial visit after adopting my 8 month old Yorkie. The receptionist was very polite, I really liked her and so was the vet tech. However, the vet herself, was not my favorite. I tried asking her questions and she rarely looked me in the eye when responding and often gave short answers. I felt rushed and unwelcome. When she did the checkup of Misto, she forgot to check his legs and hips until we had almost walked out of the exam room. I did NOT like that. I told her that Misto had his first round of shots administered at the vet and the remaining two by the breeder. She then informed me I needed to get him ANOTHER round of shots, which is absolutely unnecessary, considering he has received all his puppy shots, the only shot he needed was a rabies shot but she wanted me to give him almost 5 additional shots, including a Lepto shot for Lyme Disease since I go to CT approximately 4 times a year. When visiting another vet for his microchip and rabies shot, I asked about the Lepto and myriad of other vaccines this vet had recommended. The new vet specifically advised AGAINST a Lepto shot, seeing as I rarely go to CT and advised I inspect him upon return seeing as he's a tiny 4.8 lbs instead of giving a puppy unnecessary shots and overburdening his system. I felt like the Lenox Hill vet was trying to push everything on me, saying I needed to come back twice for unnecessary shots, just so she could charge me two separate $90 exam fees! Will NEVER go here again. She also didn't ask if I wanted to purchase Nutrical from her (which I knew would be at a cosiderable markup), she automatically added it to my bill. UGGH! read more

This place is a money mill and the owner responses only prove it. The reply to Shauna of 10/10/13 only caused me to have even more empathy for how terrible she was made to feel. They're primary purpose is clearly to extract as much money from desperate people as quickly as possible. I mean C'mon to seriously suggest subjecting a 15 year old cat to that type of grueling agony for another few months of more of the same just so you can pile on thousands of dollars in additional charges after she already said she wanted to put the poor cat down is simply inexcusable and demanding the full $1,500 payment on the spot was just heartless and totally motivated by greed. They should have just offered her a payment plan or to pay what she could pay and forgot about it. They sure forgot about Cody's ashes though didn't they which only added insult to injury. read more

I have been using the Lenox Hill Veterinarian practice for 10 years. My dog gets happily excited whenever we need to visit (pretty good proof of the kind atmosphere you find in their offices).They are exemplary in the treatment of my dogs. They stay current on medical issues and patiently explain the treatments they prescribe without alarming you so that you can make an educated decision on approving your pet's treatment. Dr. Putter spends as much time as you need without rushing you out the way some doctors do. I am a bit puzzled about the comment about the front desk, Dawn is warm and attentive and does her best to accommodate you in setting up an appointment. In fact not only do they keep a big jar of dog treats on the desk but they have people treats too (and fresh coffee!). In regard to the postings about fees, I have used a number of vets in NY and Lenox Hill's fees are comparable and in fact less expensive than some of the other practices. I highly recommend Lenox Hill Veteritnarians o anyone who loves their pet. read more

This is the best Vet in NY. I have been in NY all my life and have had Furry Babies as long as I could remember. Dr. Klain is the Best vet I have ever met.. He cares and truly loves the animals . You can just tell by the way he handles them. Doris at the desk is wonderful. Dr. Pigman and Dr. Mcculin also. They are patient and they know what to do! My cat Lumpy- Lou was blocked and they helped him and he had surgery and doing great.. From regular check ups to major surgery. My list goes on and on with no complaints..They have help my dogs and cats! I would highly recommend this place.. they call you back, they take care of your animals. Lenox Hill Veterinarians has provided excellent care for our pets since 2000. I first met Dr. Putter, the Director, in 2000 because he was the only professional willing to make a house call in my neighborhood. He provided swift and quality care for my cat Emma, but he was also a good communicator: calling me personally in a timely fashion with lab results and providing interpretations in a sensitive and thoughtful manner. Many years later when Emma got cancer, I was overwhelmed by the kindness showed to me by Lenox Hill Vets. We have new cats Emerson and Casey now, and we are grateful for Dr. Putter's expertise but also for his unhurried, thorough approach to every visit. Our cats have dental issues and Dr. Putter repeatedly recommended radiologic examination and cleaning under anesthesia. We dreaded the experience. We were glad we didn't put it off any longer because he recently confirmed Emerson had severe tooth resorption by intraoperative imaging, which he called to discuss with me at the time of the procedure. I really appreciated the call because I had already agreed to extractions, but I was sitting on pins and needles at work. He explained that this is a very painful disease. Emerson underwent complex dental surgery with multiple extractions that day. I can attest to Dr. Putter's surgical skills because the surgery went beautifully. And now Emerson is a happier, healthier cat because I followed the advice of our vet! Dr. Putter's practice is enhanced by a fantastic staff, from the phones to the techs. Love LHV! Yes - they are busy! But thats NYC for you, and very worth the wait. Everyone is kind and attentive. Dr. Putter is very reasonable, and actually cares about the health of your pet. I brought my dog there a few times, the first time she had blood in her urine - Dr. Putter was very thorough - xrays and all - Thankfully, no stones or serious issues - prescribed medication and it cleared up and has not returned. Dr. Putter also discovered early onset arthritis from those x-rays in my 6 yr old dog, which enabled us to act early and give her Dasuquin and special food designed to enhance joint health (J/D) and she truly is a different dog. Wow, where to begin. My pug was vomiting and sitting in a strange way, so I took her in. A series of tests discovered that it was her gall bladder, which needed to be removed right away. She had emergency surgery, which involved removing the gall bladder and taking a liver sample. Also, during surgery they found a mass in her small intestine that needed to be removed. AND, she had a small mass on her back they removed since she was under. The day after surgery, as if she hadn't been through enough, she developed pnemonia. Needless to say this was all completely overwhelming, but Dr. Klain was helpful and kind, and answered every question I had thoroughly. He has a way of being clinical yet compassionate, which is exactly what I needed. He encouraged me to have faith and allowed me to visit every day, even on the weekends. He also sat and listened to me tell stories about my dog when I was there hysterically crying on her 11th birthday. One week later my best friend came home, and it's nothing short of a miracle. Dr. K, Dr. Putter and the team got her through four surgical procedures and pnemonia. Additionally, they worked with me on the bill payment. Everyone there genuinely seemed to care about my dog and what she had been through. Walking out of there, I felt so appreciative of what they had done. I wish I had more money and could take them all to dinner! I have been going here for awhile, but I never had this kind of emergency.
