Icame here after a referral from Resurrection Medical for an eye abrasion. The care I received was solid, and the optometrist was helpful and professional. That said, the follow-up required several visits, which felt a bit drawn out. In hindsight, I probably would have benefited from seeing an ophthalmologist sooner--someone who specializes in that type of condition. The clinic does seem busy, especially on the medical side, which usually speaks to its reputation. While I didn't personally see an ophthalmologist here, there was clearly steady demand for their services. One downside: the pricing on glasses felt high, similar to what you'd see at larger chain retailers. It's worth comparing prices elsewhere before making a purchase. For perspective, I later visited University Ophthalmology Associates (UOA) on Old Orchard Rd in Skokie for cataract care, and had a very positive experience there. Overall, this clinic is a convenient option and I'd consider coming back, particularly for general eye care. Just keep in mind--if you're dealing with something more complex, it may be worth exploring specialist care early and checking pricing before committing. read more

This place has been great for me and my partner. I had previously been told at a completely different practice with a completely different doctor that I had glaucoma. Dr. Shepelenko explained I did not, in fact, have glaucoma and that there were outdated guidelines for some doctors thinking people with thick corneas all have glaucoma. I guess my corneas just be thicc as heck and I'm good with that. A stress relieving visit indeed! read more

Went to Dr Shepelenko for a stye my daughter had. My daughter has severe allergies Shepelenko wanted to give her a steroid which I told her she has a very rare allergy to a steroid. Last time we had one in the emergency room she had head to toe hives. She then became upset with me and said " Did you want to prescribe the medication then?". I was in complete shock. I said no I mentioned this because it was a really bad allergic reaction and you should know. She stated that the steroid would make her feel better. I said not if she has a severe allergy to it. She then stated that is only in the eye it's not like she it's in her body. I told her Ahhh I don't think with the last reaction I wish to take that even if it's in her eye. I asked if a well tolerated medication erythromycin in the past and if that would work, She then actually told me she was choosing a medication based on the biggest kickback she could get. She said this will be a few min while I search for the medication that will give me the biggest kickback. I do not recommend ever going there when they put kickbacks before a child safety. Why would you not give a tolerated medication for a child with a laundry list of allergies but, instead prescribe a new medication based on kickbacks. I turned her into the medical board. I AM NOT PLAYING WITH MY DAUGHTERS HEALTH. !!!! SHE PUTS PROFIT BEFORE SAFETY!!!! If they don't want Medicaid Patients because there is not much profit then they should not take them. read more

It's a nice place. I've just been going where Dr. Sullivan goes for decades. This is by far the nicest and they have quite a few doctors. I booked my appointment on line and went to a different doctor so I could get in sooner. Glad to know my eyes are healthy I get them checked annually because I have diabetes. I am very disappointed in their new policy as of 2026 of collecting between $230 -- $280 up front in order to make sure they collect your deductible. My understanding is that this was decided by the office manager. Who is in charge there ? The doctors pay said manager -- they apparently do not have control of their own practice and have little regard for their patients in these difficult financial times. I am currently looking for a new practice. Btw said office manager has never called us back -- left email and voicemail. read more

I've been a regular patient at the Milwaukee Avenue Eye Center and have been very pleased with the care provided. For example, today's visit began with Miss Vicki, a personable tech, who greeted me on time and explained one change to the visit's routine as she led me to the exam room. She put me at ease with small talk in between tests and eye drops. Miss Vicki is a real people person.. My visit ends with a consultation with the ophthalmologist Dr. Ethington who consistently provides efficient care, clear and patient answers to my questions, and never has a rushed manner even tho he conducts a very busy practice. Both Dr. Ethington and Miss Vicki represent the Gold Standard in ophthalmology care. read more

I am proud and grateful to be the first reviewer of Milwaukee Avenue Eye Center on Yelp. This company is so awesome. I am grateful to two friends who referred me to them. Diagnosed with cataract in right eye on a Monday. I had surgery the next Wednesday: Valentine's Day. A month later I had surgery on my left eye. The Milwaukee Avenue Eye Center is cordial, efficient, and effective. 1. Cordial when they greet you. 2. Efficient in how they process you through their system of assessment and diagnosis. You always feel like a person as you move from room to room. 3. Effective in their surgery. Just wonderful. Thank you Dr. Sullivan. It's amazing to walk around without using glasses in normal life. For reading I use $5 "readers" that allow me to read all my books and see my dazzling computer screen. I can even play guitar, see both my strings and my notes. I can walk outside and no longer need a walking stick for balance. Why? Because I can now see uneven sidewalks and curbs and walk more carefully. My entire family goes to Milwaukee Avenue Eye Center. Dr. Ethington is fabulous! What I really appreciate is the Optical Center at this location. Renee is AMAZING! She is friendly, takes her time and truly shows compassion. She goes above and beyond to make sure we are well taken care of. Her expertise surpasses my expectations. As a new patient, I had an emergency eye infection and was able to meet with Dr, Park immediately. He met with me daily to treat the infection and come up with the diagnosis and specialist referral that saved my vision and possibly my eye. On the critical Weekend he and the office were in constant contact and had a plan for the next choice of action. Because of Dr. Park I'm in the care of one of the worlds leading Doctors in treating Canthamoeba Keratitis, a rare Amoeba attack on the Cornea. After waiting 20 minutes after my eyes were dilated Dr mata came in said the computer wasn't working and left . Vickie the tech hadn't entered any data from the tests she gave me And Dr mata was unable to function without a computer as Laura explained in an apology call the next day .but NO One told me to leave but after another 45 minutes of waitng I left and called my insurance company to lodge a complaint .
