I went for my regular eye exam, in my wheelchair, and encountered multiple barriers to accessibility. The building seems to have been constructed to code requirements but accessibility features are not maintained. The ramp to the upper level is cluttered and used for storage. The bathroom is similarly made unusable for wheelchairs due to a large storage cabinet in the required clear floor area. read more

Immensely frustrated and disappointed with my experience here. I scheduled an appointment, arrived 5 minutes early, and and was not seen by anyone until 25 minutes after I arrived (read: 20 minutes after my appointment time). I thought I would be seeing the doctor, but it was only for the pre-exam. After the pre-exam I was asked to wait in the waiting area but wasn't given an estimate of when I'd be seen, nor was there an apology for the wait. Another 25 minutes later and I was not only still waiting, but also had no update on when I'd be seen. I had other things to attend to, so I told them that I wanted to cancel. It was at that point that they told me the doctor should be seeing me soon, and that the appointment would take 25-30 minutes from there. They then told me that I should try and reschedule for 9am or 2pm to ensure that I didn't have to wait. I was insulted: after all, I have a full time job and don't have time to just pop in whenever I want. They should see people within a reasonable time frame of when they say they will, not just based on the luck of the draw. I understand that doctors run late--trust me, I get it. But the staff was not communicative or apologetic whatsoever. I didn't feel like they respected or valued my time as a new customer, or even as a customer in general. I recommend you look further for another place to meet your optometric needs. read more

I do not write many negative reviews, but the LensCrafters/Buena Ventura Optometry in Santa Barbara just lost a customer of 6 years and unfortunately it has nothing to do with Dr Lipsun who is extremely talented and good at her job, it is the choice in office manager Douglas and his inability to communicate properly and juggle situations as they present themselves. I made this appointment and confirmed it, due to a traffic issue I was ten mins late and was told as I see in other reviews they could not accommodate me. I find this so peculiar as I have waited 30 mins to be seen in that very office and never complained. Douglas is not qualified to be a office manager and as I have requested to speak with the doctor directly and hope I get to I will let her know why I have had to switch offices. I have a business of my own and understand issues arise but in today's climate it is imperative there is some flexibility built into the work day. read more

We had an awesome experience at this LensCrafters, thanks to Rigo! My wife had her eye exam and ordered a new pair of glasses. They weren't expected to arrive for a couple weeks but were ready in just a few days. I checked the store hours and headed up from Ojai to pick them up when we got stuck in traffic. I called to see if there was anything the store could do and Rigo offered to meet us all the way in Ventura. His "extra mile" service made our LensCrafters experience a 10! I was just in there not too long ago about 5 minutes. for the last 2 months I have been suffering with my glasses! the frames were stretched out the screws were loose, I haven't been able to get them fix because I've been taking care of my father I finally had the chance too. I've never felt so grifted, cheated, totally ripped off by "medical professionals" in my entire life. First of all, I was a previous customer at this place, prior to having insurance coverage. They did "ok" in the past and i was pressed for time so i just went back to this place. Somehow, with insurance coverage i ended up paying a ton more out of pocket than my previous visit where i just paid cash. The nightmare started from the moment i walked through the door. First of all, my "exam" was basically ceremonial walking through the motions to make sure i wasn't blind, and even if i was i'm not sure they'd have noticed. I think they wanted to know if i could see where my wallet was to pay them. Above my "exam", I needed a contact lens fitting as well, since my previous prescription had expired. The most amazing part of my contact lens "fitting" / "exam", was that the doctor asked me if i had brought my old lens boxes in, of if i could find an old prescription so that he could see the base curves. At first i thought this was for him to get a baseline for comparison. Turns out after i found my old prescription in my emails, all this guy did was say "ok great", and just simply COPIED my old prescription. He said that it was great that i was able to find my old prescription, otherwise he'd have had to do the whole contact lens fitting all over again. WHICH I PAID FOR OUT OF POCKET AT THE END OF THE VISIT. I PAID LENS CRAFTERS FOR A "DOCTOR" TO COPY MY OLD PRESCRIPTION AND HAND IT BACK TO ME. Then it came to order the contacts, never once was i told what the total cost would be just how much i'd have to pay them on the spot. $130 for 4 boxes. Come to find out a month later, they billed my insurance $170 on top of the $130 i paid. My brand of contacts cost between $45-50 a box anywhere, but they swindled a total of $75/box for them. The whole experience was awful and unnecessarily expensive because i had insurance. IT COST ME MORE TO USE VISION INSURANCE HERE, THAN TO NOT. This little adventure cost me an aggregate of $700 dollars, and zeroed out my HIA insurance balance in the process. What a nightmare. Avoid this place. read more

I ordered in June and its November.. and then trials came in (only one pair) and they can't even get you In with the doctor right away. I made an appointment & I thought I couId make but I ended up missing it and called to cancel, which wasn't put into the system apparently because When I showed up a couple days later the reps on the floor were like " you've missed appointments" trying to make me feel bad! Very immature.....When I got called into my job... now i'm trying to leave this place and its been 3 days of me calling trying to get the doctor to sign my prescription so I can go to another doctor and they won't even send it... they sent one with no signature... that's not valid. long story short they're are so many different places in SB that will make you feel taken care of and this is not the place. My husband went to Eyexam/Lenscrafter for a glaucoma exam. He left with a glasses prescription, not needed, but probably included in the exam, and a referral to an opthomologist. When we made the appointment with the opthomologist, we were asked to get the records from Eyexam/Lenscrafter. I called them and was told "Sorry, we can't do that. Our fax machine is broken. If you want to come in, I can give you a copy of the referral form." We already had the referral form, which states "I hereby acknowledge that the above named (Lenscrafter) practitioner will exchange information from my care records." I asked if they would provide photos or other information if I picked it up. No, just the referral form. What a ... business. Broken fax machine, can't email, won't cooperate with the physicians to whom they refer patients. My impression from a previous visit was that they were all about selling overpriced frames and lenses...sales, not service. This visit confirmed that impression. read more

I've been wearing glasses for years and I've never been able to see better. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. I can see for miles. So worth it. Got 2 pairs of glasses. They worked with me on price. The lady helped me find stylish glasses that were on sale. Got a great deal. So comfortable. I didn't even know it was possible to see as good as I do now. Great protection plan. I'm from Pennsylvania. Traveling through. I didn't pack very well and I was out of contacts. I had a bad experience with lenscrafters over there and I had sworn it off forever but I am sooo satisfied. I was under the impression that there was only so much you could do. I will never go anywhere else for glasses ever. If you're thinking of doing it cheap at Wal-Mart don't. Glasses are always expensive but they will work with you and help you out there. Just do it. Kudos to Lenscrafters. I'm very happy with my choice to use Lens Crafters because their customer service is top notch. From the moment I walked in they were responsive, caring and experts. I purchased two pairs of glasses and sadly one pair did not feel perfect. I called to explain that I wasn't sure I made the right choice and I was sad I was stuck with my frames. Without hesitation they recommended coming in and they'll take care of me. They were able to refit and exchange my glasses for something that we all agreed was a better fit. At the end of the day you can buy from a number of stores or even online. The folks at LC wanted me to be happy and they care about the customers experience researching and buying glasses. What horrible customer service! Lenscrafters needs to do a better job of coaching their staff. I had a 9AM appointment and reached at 8:50AM. The door was locked because they open at 9AM! It beats logic that they let customer schedule an appointment exactly at the time they open. Common sense says that customers usually arrive early for an appointment. Do they expect us to wait outside their locked store? So, I went to get a coffee and allow them some time to open the store and get set up. I came back around 9:10AM and as I was walking up to the counter a young guy named "Art" came up to me and told me that I had to reschedule my appointment since they already had the next patient in. Do they schedule patients within 10 mins of each other? I remember it takes more than 10 mins to go through an appointment. I tried to tell him that I had come before 9AM and the door was locked. He started arguing with me and told me that he was here since 8:30AM and he didnt see anyone. Wow, doesnt that make me feel like a liar!. I told him that the girl at the counter saw me pull at the door and saw me walk away. But he didnt accomodate me and told me to reschedule. Well, you know what, thanks for the suggestion but I think I'll take my business elsewhere. So, "Art" while you learn customer service, the Lenscrafter organization has lost a customer in times when the economy is so bad that we all work hard to get and hold on to any business you get. You will learn it as you grow in your career. Or again, maybe you wont. You wont be seeing me in this location ever again. read more

Excellent experience this past thursday. I scheduled an eye exam and was able to get in the same day I scheduled. Online was very fast and easy way to schedule appointment. I went in and was browsing for glasses and they have a summer promotion going on which is pay for frames get 50% off lenses. I was in and out of the dr. in 30 minutes, ate across the street at Marmalade Cafe, and picked up my new prescription RayBans within one hour of ordering them. I love the staff because they are always friendly and helpful. read more

In one word, awful. I, against my better judgement, decided to use this LensCrafters location to simply order contact lenses. I was told that it would take no longer than two weeks. SEVEN weeks later, I have just received my contacts. In addition, the customer service is horrendous. I called at least a dozen times, was asked if they could call me back, and wouldn't ever receive that follow up call. One time, I understand, but a dozen? I had even asked them to just refund my money so I could go somewhere that could fulfill my request quickly, and they told me they could cancel my order, but they couldn't refund my money. read more

They have become a nightmare! I had a horrible experience last year with my eye exam. Staff standing around eating and laughing made me wait a very long time. Technicians were condescending and abrupt. Then tried to get me to buy their most expensive eyewear, not even telling me if the less expensive options. I walked out and took my prescription to Sansum, where I was treated exceptionally well. This year I have been inundated with calls asking me to make an appointment. I told them I'm wasn't coming back. Ever! Today I received an automated appointment reminder for an appointment I NEVER made! I had to call and tell them again, that I'm not coming back. The people are nice enough, but the cost is outrageous. At other eye doctors I pay my $20 co pay with my insurance, but they charged me $95 for being out of network. I would have simply not gone if I had known beforehand, but they assured me that they took my insurance and never once during my appointment and fitting did they mention the costs. Not until checking out did they inform me that they don't "really" work with my insurance and only a little bit is covered. What a joke. Stay away. read more

I was very disappointed today with LensCrafters. I go there for the exam but I go to Eyeglass 2000 to have the glasses made. I was having trouble with some new night time glasses so I decided to go back to LensCrafters to have my eyes rechecked. I explain the problems I was having and why I wanted to have a recheck. The lady took my new glasses and had the technician test them to make sure that they conformed to the prescription. She came back and said that the access was all wrong. So I went back to Eyeglass 2000 and said they had gotten the axis wrong. So the technician there, the one that made the glasses, check them again and said; no it's just like the prescription says. So I go back to LensCrafters and I give them the glasses and say that technician says they're okay. So she takes them back behind the window again has them tested again it comes back and says why "yes they're all right now. "The eyeglass 2000 technician must have flipped the axis." Well I don't know what's involved in flipping an access but it probably takes more than the 25 seconds of the guy spent checking out my glasses. I think what happened is that she was pretty anxious to trash Eyeglass 2000 and she was probably hoping that if she said that the axis was all wrong that I would have LensCrafters correct the problem. So I'm very disturbed by their dishonesty. I'm never going there again, for anything! read more

Wandered in here and was given such great service that I bought glasses here for the first time. Ms. Daniels was patient, knowledgeable and her follow through was way above and beyond. LensCrafters store in Santa Barbara has non-existent customer service and employs some individuals who are incompetent and dishonest. After reading another review and experiencing similar treatment it is clear that instead of providing an "unwavering, never-ending commitment to quality and your satisfaction" as stated on the LensCrafters website, the staff at the La Cumbre Plaza store practice the strategy that the best defense is a good offense. We purchased an expensive pair of sunglasses at LensCrafters several years ago. At one point the screw holding a lens into the frame came out and we returned to the store where they replaced it with a longer screw. Recently the original screw on the other side worked its way out and that lens came out. Fortunately this happened in a pocket in a purse so the lens did not fall and the screw was not lost. Because these sunglasses were valuable we decided to take them back to LensCrafters to get the screw replaced as we wanted it done correctly. We explained to one of the salesgirls what happened and she took the glasses into the lab to work on them. After what seemed like a long time to replace a screw she came out and gave them to us. When we asked about checking the fit after having replaced the lens, she seemed indifferent and did not ask us to sit down so she could take a look at them, but merely asked if they were comfortable. They felt like sunglasses so we left. When we got out into the sunlight we discovered that there was a chip out of the lens at the corner where the screw had been replaced and a crack was moving across the lens. We returned to the store and were "helped" by a second salesgirl. When we showed her what had been done, she disappeared into the manager's office. After we sat there waiting, she, not the manager nor the girl who had worked on the glasses, came out and informed us that the lens had been cracked when we gave it to them. We had NOT seen nor felt a crack and there was no reason for it to be cracked since the screw had simply worked its way out of the frame thereby no longer holding the lens in place. The girl who worked on the glasses had not 1) mentioned the supposed crack to us at any time, 2) offered suggestions for fixing or stabilizing the supposed crack or 3) warned us that replacing the screw would cause the lens to chip and lose a piece of the glass. When we pointed out that nothing had been said to us about a "preexisting crack," the go-between told us that the person doing the repair had "thought" we knew. Clearly her ability to read minds is as good as her ability to replace a screw without destroying a pair of glasses. We repeated that the lens had NOT been cracked, at which point the go-between informed us that two people saw that the lens was cracked. The lab at this particular store has a glass window and at no time did the other individual in the lab look at the lens. At this point we realized that we were dealing with dishonest people. While we were waiting to have our glasses wrecked and then to be treated like morons, we noticed that the ladies' restroom was out of order, the men's restroom had barely enough toilet paper for one use as well as dried urine behind the toilet seat and only one other customer was in the store. Maybe word is already out about the quality of this store and its staff, but if not, our advice is to deal with these people at your own risk. They do not take responsibility for their actions. This episode cost us about $300, not to mention frustration and complete disgust. Eyewear is expensive and vision too important to trust it to the unprofessional incompetents at the Santa Barbara LensCrafters store. Postscript: So far LensCrafters corporate headquarters has proved to be as inept and indifferent as the local store. When individuals say that they will call you back you never hear from them again. Perhaps they are so inundated with complaints that they are overwhelmed or it is their corporate policy to lie to customers; let's give them and ourselves a break and patronize other eyewear providers. read more
