I've eaten here many times and tonight's meal was the worst I've ever had, the linguine and clam sauce tasted like dirty dish water, the linguine was broken into pieces that could not be twirled with my fork but long enough to even fall off a spoon, I am an experienced Italian and know what it should taste like, the clam sauce was out in of the container and all over the bag and then all over my shirt and table, had to pour the bag into a bowl and then back in the container. This place is sketchy; there is a deplorable lack of consistency with respect to quality. This time, though, I decided to post a review. Last night I ordered a veggie Sicilian pie, adding sliced meatballs on half. The pie was horribly wet; the crust was soaked to the point where a steak knife wouldn't slice through, rather, I had to use a fork and scissors to cut a slice into pieces; I couldn't pick up the whole slice because the ingredients would just slide off the crust. I'll call today, and see if they will replace the pie (I saved it in the refrigerator if they want to look at the thing). The delivery was fair, at best. We live close (within a 7 minute drive) and had to microwave the slice). Poor quality control and poor delivery temperature warrant one-star. I'll update as appropriate. I cannot speak to the rest of the menu, however, don't try the Sicilian style pizza; it's as wet as the Strait of Sicily. read more

Ordered delivery upon staying in a local hotel.... the delivery man called to inform me he was outside my hotel room. He was actually at the wrong hotel.... he blamed it on the lady working the counter telling him the wrong hotel. That would a valid excuse if I hadn't already given them the hotel address. After the delivery man left, I realized he did not give us the soda we had ordered. When I called to let them know, the lady on the phone said "oh I didn't charge you for it". No Comadrie most NYC/NNJ folks share, not an oz of warmth. I did not want to do this review. I have a sweet spot for family owned restaurants, and I have eaten at Leo and Joe's many times. However, today I was publicly called out by someone from the restaurant and it was done in an angry manner. Never, in all of my dining experiences have I experienced such behavior from restaurant staff and when I attempted to diffuse his anger it only put gasoline on this fire. Please note I did not take any photos as I originally had no intention of putting up a review and just chalk it up to the back of the house having an off day. I was in the mood for Veal Parm and my first thought was Leo and Joe's. I had my book and was looking forward to a nice Sunday meal while I read. I ordered the Veal Parm and asked for Fettucine Alfredo as my side instead of spaghetti or penne and I understood there would be an upcharge. I'm not a fan of iceberg lettuce salads so I asked for double of their homemade bread instead (of which I will take home and enjoy the next day) When the bread came to my table it was not their usual homemade loaf but store-bought French loaf sliced that was overly toasted, very dry and hard. It was served in a red plastic basket and NOT the usual bread board with a side of olive oil and herbs and a container of butter. When the meal came, the veal parm was prepared beautifully (as it always is) but it was a small 5" x 5" square and not the large piece of veal usually served. At $16.95 this came as a surprise. The side of Fettuccine was hot but thin and tasteless and the noodles had a watery texture to them. At first, I thought I had not gotten any of the Fettuccine sauce so when I took another rolled fork through it only confirmed that this sauce was missing an ingredient. It was bland, no flavor and thin. At this time, an older man in a red t-shirt comes out with the monitor remote and puts on an Italian soap opera so loud that I thought my ears would begin bleeding. He stared at the television for a good 5 minutes playing with the volume up and down and up and down until he found a volume he could hear from the workstation. Of course, for me and other diners that meant either not speaking to each other or just leave. I decided to take what was left of my meal and leave because it was so loud and made my reading unbearable. My bill came to $24.99 and when I saw the $4.00 upcharge for the ¼ cup of thin, tasteless Fettuccine sauce, I shared with my server that $4.00 as an upcharge for this substitution was a bit much. She said that was the upcharge price listed on the menu and I apologized and said I didn't see that and thank you for pointing that out. My bad, I should have asked as I missed it on the menu. She then asked did I not like the dish and that is when I shared with her that I did not care for the meal, as a whole, at all. I did say twice that the Veal was excellent but the Fettuccine and the bread was a huge disappoint. Not what I had experienced in the past. She took my card to check me out and this same older man began having a "strong" conversation with her. She returned with my bill and he followed her swinging a menu within his hands. He then looked at me and wanted to know why I was arguing about the $4.00 upcharge and I should have seen it on the menu. Before I could even answer, he began ragging me about I should have seen it, it's my fault, what didn't I like etc. I couldn't get a word in. First of all, who was this man? An owner, a bus boy, a dishwasher? He never introduced himself, just got in my face. I attempted to calm him down by speaking quietly and politely and shared that this is not about the $4.00 upcharge and in fact, I went over my conversation about the upcharge with my server (who was delightful) and said all good. I missed it on the menu, no worries. He would not have it. He wanted to know why I didn't like the Alfredo. I shared that it was thin in consistency and had no flavor, like an ingredient was missing. He then began to berate me on how much cream is at $11.34 a pint (I don't know where he is buying his heavy cream but I purchase heavy whipping cream weekly and a quart at a time and have never paid that much) and what ingredient do I think is missing. I shared a little salt, cracked pepper and garlic and he began to shout that there is no garlic in Alfredo and then turns to the middle of the restaurant and points to all of the customers and begins shouting that he doesn't need my reviews or my business; I don't know what I am talking about and I don't have to come back. So this review is being offered because of the vitriol and hate this red t-shirt wearing old man put me through. I hope no one ever has to be his verbal punching bag like what he directed towards me and I will never EVER be back. He is correct, though, he doesn't need my money but I will take every opportunity to share this experience to everyone I know. read more

We come here a few times a month and we're very disappointed last evening as we got there around 8:30pm. Dining room was empty we asked if ok to sit and server said yes open till 9. Man behind counter yelled out no dining service now take out only. The front door sign and online reads open til 10pm....very disappointed on how we were treated. Needless to say, Joeys down the street got our Business as they were open till 10, like their sign said!! Our " waitress" kept walking around not acknowledging the fact that we were still waiting on Garlic bread to be served from our order that was taken before the two tables that came in after us that were now eating their dinners ! Had she just said oh I'm so sorry I forgot to put in your order and come to the table to offer more coffee or any sort of apology that might have at least been some sort of acceptable acknowledgement . She continued to ignore us after bringing the garlic bread while we waited close to another half hour for rest of meal .You forgot the garlic bread then make us wait for that 45 min to then make us wait close to another half hour without ever coming to table to apologize or offer any type of excuse . Just went about ignoring us the entire meal . She certainly should not be waitressing in any capacity. . Food was ok but service was beyond bad . Loved the food here. I was in the area on business and just happened to stop by. The sauce on my spaghetti was out of this world and I am very particular when it comes to spaghetti sauce. Another positive of this place is the bread. They bake it on the premises and will give you a second loaf on request. We did so and ours was hot and very tasty. This was our first and last visit. We came in with high hopes afterr reading reviews and word of mouth. Our pizza took over an hour to reach our table. No joke.. sat down at approx 5:45 and our meat lovers pizza arrived after7:15. When it finally arrived it smelt of microwaved hotdogs (our child's description) it had no sauce and the crust was semi burnt (not the tasteful kind). We made the mistake of eating here on Saturday evening, our regular local Italian place had a long wait so we decided to try something new. We were greeted and seated quickly. We told the server that this was our first visit and asked for recommendations. We ordered Garlic Knots, Cheese Pizza and Stuffed Shells. The garlic knots tasted ok but were on the hard side, when the pizza came out it was overbaked and burnt on one corner. The Stuffed Shells, 3 small ones, came out 20 minutes after the pizza did. The Stuffed Shells should have come with soup and bread but it was never brought to the table. When asked the server told me I could have them to go. Yeah! Right? When I got home I realized she gave me the wrong soup and the bread was hard. We were charged $2.50 more for the Garlic Knots than the price that was on the menu. Had to throw out all edge pieces of the pizza the next day, the edges were so hard and brittle we could have made breadcrumbs with it. Bad service. Overpriced and over baked low value food. We ended up here for the first time tonight. It was the first and the last time. They place was crowded, but we were seated right away, and our waiter took our order quickly and returned with drinks, salad and warm bread promptly. We both ordered entrees. I ordered a veal and eggplant dish and he ordered lasagne. Over an hour elapsed from salad to entree. I just told the waiter we were about to leave, when the food came out. We must have rushed it because my side of spaghetti wasn't hot and the cheese on both entrees was barely melted and not at all browned. The lasagne was about 3 by 4 inches and about an inch thick. There was no meat at all in it. My veal was hard on the edges, and the eggplant was obviously frozen. It showed in the water that pooled at the edge of the meat. The owner did stop by after the waiter explained we were annoyed. She informed us she has a small kitchen and it was Friday night, which was supposed to excuse more than an hour wait for reheated frozen food. I said that I understood that part but maybe better communication would prevent this. She let me know she had been in business for forty years, which also doesn't go far in making up for shortcomings. On the plus side, the sauce had a good taste and the bread was fresh and warm. I reported a problem and I get yelled at and argued with. Any mistakes they make, they don't own up to. Don't bother with them. The customer is wrong. The toppings are skimpy and they are very defensive when they are called out on their screw up. Leo got on the phone and yelled at me after making the claim that "He would take my order" next time I called. That was the biggest lie I've ever heard. When it's the food is good, it's great! When it's bad, suck it up, because they don't care and won't take ownership of when they misheard you because they were distracted. Really solid local Italian restaurant, that makes everything fresh in house. Pizza seems to be on everyone's table, but they also have a full Italian menu - pastas, meats, and seafood. Something for everyone! All of it reasonably priced. And really yummy hot and freshly baked Italian bread while you're waiting! I had a Margherita and a veggie pizza, it was pretty good. Dessert was a Cannoli, that was probably the best item I had - perfect crust and tasty filling, it was clearly made with quality ingredients and fresh. In NYC or back home in Los Angeles this would probably be a 3.5 rating (the pizza was undercooked (bottom wasn't crisp) and they were pretty skimpy on the toppings), but in the food desert that this area is (mostly chains with frozen nasty ingredients), if Domino's has a 5 star rating then this place is unquestionably a 5-star, the taste is superior and it's all fresh. Our server said the next time we should ask for a little thicker crust, the Pie will be a little smaller around, but it may be more to our taste. The next time we did request the crust to be a little thicker and it was prepaired just as we requested with out so much as a raised eye brow.
