Have been here a few times Tonight was another sample of bad service. Seems like each time we get one of the waitresses you barely see them. They take your order bring food but won't even look at you if your trying go get their attention. Rating for the food is really good Service rating sucks. The woman we had again tonight she was only looking at the tables that had more than two people. We had to beg for drinks. We even arrived before the crowd so no excuses seriously. They have a big seating area but only want you sitting on top of each other in the one section. We have ordered from Leo and Joe's for years, but tonight was the last time! It has gone so downhill! Judging from the recent reviews on here, this seems to be a trend. Our pizza was wrong, we paid for extra potato salad in the Greek salad and asked for extra dressing, neither of which we got. That was bad enough, but when we called to let them know they got into a huge argument with my husband. Three different people got on the phone and all were rude! It had already taken an hour for the first order to come and then they insisted that we not eat that pizza, but wait for another hour and give it back. What were they going to do with it??? Meanwhile our kids were starving. Basically they just did not want to be bothered to fix their mistake and could have cared less if the order was wrong. My husband refused to back down and an hour later the corrected order arrived. We should have known better. We had called twice recently during regular business hours and both times they did not even answer the phone! There are way to many restaurants in the area these days. No need to go to one that does not treat customers with respect. read more

I ordered a capicola sub to go I'm about 10 to 12 miles away. I I arrived home in to my surprise it wasn't capicola it was a spiced ham.spiced ham and capicola do not taste the same! spiced ham is a cheaper meat and they charge full capicola prices. I called two are my disappointment and I was told that's what they use. There was no type of apology for the false advertising. It is clearly deceptive advertising and to top it all off they were rude about my complaints. They did not even offer any kind of compensation, when I asked about it they said bring it back. This is a close to a gourmet restaurant as you're going to get in the area. Skip the pizza--well, don't, because that's really good, too--but their meal menu is the real prize. Leo & Joe's offers exceptional food, huge portions, great/wry service, and reasonable prices. I've been working my way through the menu every visit to my mother's (she lives near there, I don't, or I'd be 20 lbs. heavier, LOL!), and every dish I've ordered has been wonderful. It's very hard to review this restaurant, it is an experience of extremes. I've been going here for decades, and usually the food and service is five-stars. But sometimes it's zero. I've had most of the things on the menu, and last time I had the pizza there it was really good New York-New Jersey style pizza. Thin crust, tasty, with plenty of cheese. The waitress was cheerful and attentive. But sometimes, apparently when it's only the young guys in the kitchen, the pizza is no good, gummy, full of air bubbles and too wide a dry crust perimeter. It's a consistency issue that makes this a low priority for dinner out. They are capable of, and mostly do an excellent job here, but I just hate to get disappointed now and then. And you can't complain, or you get told off. So, as for a recommendation, I would say it is a gamble whether you will be happy or disappointed. read more

After trying several different pizzeria's in the area it was recommended that we try Leo and Joe's. I have to say that I truly wasn't impressed and they claim to be authentic New Jersey pizza. The crust was a bit too think and we also order a sausage roll or what I thought was supposed to be what we would get up north. Sausage, onions and mozzarella rolled and flattened in pizza crust but no..it was literally sausage on a cut up roll with sauce and mozzarella cheese and they had the never to charge $6.95 for it. Needless to say, I won't be going back and for now on I'm going to stick to Morty's on Massachusettes or Sal's in Hudson. They seem to be the better of all the places down here so far. read more

This place is a complete joke. I went in 45 minutes before they closed. The first thing I noticed was that it smelled as if something extraordinarily bad had happened in one of the restrooms, and that the toilet was forever clogged. At that point I was doubtful, but this place was recommended by a friend, so I decided to give it a try. I was going to order a pizza to go, but the guy behind the counter said "we are pretty much done for the night". It was 9:15, and they were supposed to be open until 10:00. There were about a dozen people there, seated at three tables, so they were fairly busy. I asked what he meant, and I was told they weren't able to help me. I will never try here again. read more

One of the best NYC pizza places. Tastes just like ny with the thin crust and the sauce. Family run for 30plus years. We usually take out but their menu is stocked full of Italian classics and large portions. Truly authentic and a must if you like that type of pizza. The pizza might be good (I haven't tried it) but I wouldn't recommend getting anything else. We had a $25 off coupon so we went and checked it out. Salad, which was pretty much just lettuce was fresh at least. Dawn ordered chicken & pasta with a pesto sauce, which was quite bland. I had chicken Florentine which was ok, other than being served over chopped frozen spinach instead of fresh. For dessert we split an order of tiramisu and it came out frozen. The waiter was kind of odd as well and very slow even though the place was almost empty. Based on other reviews, I might try the pizza to go sometime, but that's about it. My family and I went here on a Friday night. There wasn't a lot of people in the restaurant. Ton of people came in and picked up food. My mom got the bruschetta as an app. The bread was burned black. All you could smell and taste was strong garlic. She didn't like it. I got the stuffed mushrooms as an app. They were stuffed with a breadcrumb stuffing and they were topped with a mushroom gravy. They were absolutely disgusting. My mom got the calzone for dinner and she added mushrooms. She thought there was to much cheese inside. My dad got the stromboli and he really liked it. I got the combination sub without capacola and hot. I got mayo on the side and put it on myself. The bread was thick and a little dry. It was really good. The prices are reasonable. I ordered 5 children's meals (3 cheese ravioli, 2 meat ravioli), a side of spaghetti, calzone, a Stromboli, and a large cheese pizza. When it was delivered, we saw we only had 2 containers of ravioli. The manager/owner gets on the phone and tells me that it is their policy to put it all together and we have to divide it out. I've been a loyal dine in customer since we moved here 3 years ago and never again will we order from them. With delivery and tip, I paid $85. The kids meals say they come with drinks but then found out due to their policy they do not give the kids drinks in delivery. However, they do not reduce the price for something I didn't receive. I have 4 children with autism and one with cerebral palsy and was totally appalled that I had to separate the food onto plates when every other establishment sends individual containers per each child. The autistic children do not understand why their ordered food is on our plates and they were expecting their own containers. This may sound trivial to people with neuro typical children but to a family with special needs children, this is appalling. They should have told me that when I placed the order so I could prepare them in advance that the food would be on our plates. Seems like they are being cheap all around and the manager was quite rude. read more

Serving ROTTEN meat!!! My family has been eating here for years. The food and the service is on a steady decline (with the exception of a few people; like to cool delivery guy) A few weeks ago we ordered 6 subs. 2 chicken. 2 meatball. 2 eggplant. The person over the phone was so rude, I should have just hung up, but the food is ok so I continued with my delivery order. When the food arrived our usual delivery guy apologized for her antics and my family of 7 sat down for dinner. Low and behold the meatballs were ROTTEN. They were so spoiled that 3 members of my family had to eat spaghetti O's for dinner. My dog wouldn't even eat it! I called to let them know that they should not serve the meatballs because someone is going to get sick. The manager apologized and said she would put a credit on our account for the price of 2 subs. We called today and the owner got on the phone yelling about money! Saying he would not honor our credit. It's not our fault that you served us rotten meat! We weren't asked to bring the subs back or we would have. She aknowledged that the cooks were new, and believed that they may have served us bad meat. Talk about being cheated out of money, guy!!! I LOVE THE PIZZA, BUT I am a bit concerned about the cleanliness of the food prep.. I see people handling food and money without washing hands. The wall to the back kitchen across from register is dirty and splattered. I work in food service and know how much cleanliness counts and wish Leo or Joe would implement some of the health department rules. I shutter at the thought of how my food is handled, too bad because the pizza is the best! Just can't justify eating in a restaurant that is so dirty. The health dept. would never allow such behavior. Someone needs to clean the place up! read more

I'll start off by saying I am from Indiana. Me and my girlfriend are visiting some family who live here in Hudson, and tonight we decided to try Leo and Joe's. It's a small place, probably sits less than 100 I would guess. I went with my girlfriend, mother, and step father. Our server's name was Tony, very kind guy and a good server, full of jokes and kept us laughing every time he passed by. The only complaint I have about the service is it was a bit slow, we received our bread when we were nearly done eating. We decided to start with the garlic knots, and everybody shared them. They seemed to be made in house, to order served with a garlic oil underneath, and browned to perfection. We all agreed, they were very good. For our entree, me and my girlfriend shared a large Sicilian style meat lover's pizza which included pepperoni, sausage, ham, and meatball. Sicilian style was explained to us as a thicker crust pizza, plain and simple. And it was. The pizza sauce to me was a little too sweet, and under seasoned. But by no means did I think it was "bad". I can't say for sure if it's made from scratch in house, but I would guess no. The crust was great, although I was too full to really enjoy it. The large Sicilian style pizza could easily feed 4 by itself. I also will say that the sausage(which was clearly pre-cooked, and that is common) tasted as if it was cooked a week prior. It hadn't gone bad or anything, just a foul taste. Overall I enjoyed the experience, and I'll be sure to try something else when I come back to town. I'll give the service 3 stars(because being funny isn't good enough) and the food 4 stars, the garlic knots saved that one. read more

One of the best Italian restuarants,,,,,,,,, they make things others never heard of. I always order zuppa de pece......... it is a resonable price. Their bread is fantastic, calzones great except not enough meat in them could hardly see the ham in the four i ordered one nite, barely taste it, tastes a bit like they might use pancetta, which is fine, but put at least a slice in it.
