Earlier in the week i went to my normal dentist complaint of tooth pain that was progressively getting worse for about 1 month. Initially, it was diagnosed as some sort of trauma because the visual inspection and X-Ray didn't reveal anything that was a problem. My dentist did notice a "craze" line. He fitted me for a mouth guard because I had signs of grinding. The next day I went back to my dentist complaint of increased pain. Everything looked the same and he was able to prescribe me a Hugh dose of Motrin and Amoxycillian. I went back to my dentist for the next two days complaining of the pain and was eventually referred to see an endodontist to get a 3DCT scan and root canal treatment. Unfortunately, I couldn't get an appointment soon enough so had to rely on medication. The pain was so intense and progressive that I couldn't wait until my scheduled appt. with the endodontist. I contacted Leon and long story short he took me in asap and basically fixed it. Him and his team were super accommodating and went out of their way to fit me in. I really appreciate the urgency and care they provided. I couldn't thank them enough for fixing the pain. read more

I personally thought a little about leaving any review for this business... but why?!! However, I need to say that the predecessor or owners of this original dentistry were legends. Dr. Barr and Dr. Poindexter were the ones that ORIGINALLY owned this firm. Cheung came in later, but he's not the same: you may just see him at a local coffee shop with his handle bar mustache and fancy sports wrapped AMG Mercedes. I've been a client for a long time. However, this guy just makes me wish you never gave business to him. Interactions are awkward and super quick and ungenuine. I've not get a cleaning in years, and it's because of him. I was recommended to this dentist a while ago (by my daughter who's been a patient for sometime) Regret not making the appt sooner! I get anxiety when I go to the dentist. My last dentist I went to (will not mention her name). She told me that eventually for just a cleaning I would need to be put under. I went to see Dr. Leon Change, he's amazing. I went only for an exam (as scheduled). Few days before my appt my filling came out. The office manager (Rhea fitted me in on the same day for the filling). I was having anxiety. He was so amazing, no pain, and did an amaizing job! Rhea office manager is amazing also! I actually thought they were brother and sister. My family has been going to Dr. Chang for over 20 years. This practice is very family friendly and Dr. Chang and his team are highly skilled professionals. We've had the regular cleanings as well as root canals, crowns and fillings, you name it, all dental work has been done by this practice for my husband, 2 kids and myself. All of these procedures have been done without a hitch. We love this practice so much that we travel over 40 miles each way for our treatments. The practice has state-of-the-art equipment, which enables the team to quickly pinpoint issues. In addition, we are gently trained on brushing techniques and given advice on how to take care of our gums. My in-laws travel from Europe to have major procedures done by Dr. Chang, no kidding. This is my dental office of choice: Dr's Barr, Poindexter and Chang. Ok, I don't have a fear of the dentist, but I've never been SO relaxed with the hygienist during cleaning that I actually fall asleep. The hygienists are not ghetto, bitter, overweight women, instead you are staring up the nostrils of smiling attractive women. The receptionist is friendly, capable, follows-up, and makes you feel like a VIP. Never had a consultation with Poindexter, but Barr and Chang are superb dentists, they take the time to schmooze just enough to make you feel like your co-pay is worth it, and then they take the time to explain things thoroughly, they even draw pictures. Professional staff, clean facilities, freebies for adults too: toothbrush, toothpaste, floss and if you ask you can squeeze a few more unmentionables out of them. read more

Had I yelped 4 years ago, I probably would have given them at least 4 stars but it seems that the past 4 years this place has lowered their standards of patient care. I work in the medical field and they do not honor the Patient care standard or mines. I was a patient of theirs since I moved to Union City at the age of 14 and never had a complaint. Until a few years back. I noticed that they had allot of staff turnovers, allot of the girls openly complained about how hard the doc's were and some of them reflected it in their attitude. I was really surprised by the front desk grinch who acts like she owns the office because she's been there for decades, started demanding money when I would check in for my appointments. I have never come to a dental office that would say How about you just give us $100 and if there's a balance, we will mail you the bill... or "So it looks like you MAY have allot of work done so just leave us $150 and we'll figure the rest out later" ... um... aren't you supposed to do some work before you just take my money! DAMN, I'm not even in the chair yet! Then she turned bill collector when I had a balance and called to schedule an appointment for an abscess that had developed from a filling that Dr. Chang did (twice because the first just fell out the same night he did it) and she said, well, if you pay your balance, I can see about getting you an appointment! I was shocked! I have an emergent situation and all you can tell me is pay me and you will see! needless to say, I didn't want to find a new dentist since Dr. Chang knew my history and I was worried that I had, had this a long time so I paid the bill only for her to book my appointment a week out. Simply disgusted. So I came in for my appointment, told her I want all of my records and my kids records. I saw Dr. Chang and he gave me antibiotics and said, Oh yeah, you will need a root canal now. GREAT! More money in their pockets... but it would never happen. I left with no intentions on coming back. Thank God I didn't because I have now found Dr. Joy and her office is amazing! She will be doing my root canal, did an awesome cleaning on my teeth and hasn't bugged not once about any patient portion being paid on the spot. She also found that 3 of the fillings this office did over the years were not done correctly, I have two fillings with cavities under them, and one where they left old amalgam filling and just covered it with composite probably just to charge my insurance for a filling that was not needed! Its a shame that this office has become the disgusting place it has but my family will never be back, and I'm also referring all my extended family and friends who come here to my new dentist! I'd advise you to do the same!!! Oh and by the way, dont trust that they have checked your insurance to make sure you are "in network" if they can bill your insurance... you will be told "we take your insurance" I found out after calling my insurance that they had not been "in network" for years thus charging what ever price they want to me and I'm sure many other patients who were under the impression they were in their network. read more

I've been going to these guys since I moved to the bay area a long time ago. They have a big, yet old school waiting room. They do x-rays the old way, with the little plastic sheets (no flat screen monitors or whatever). The hygienists are always happy, young women (no complaints there!) and do their job well. I originally came to this office to see another dentist, but she has moved on. More recently I have been seeing Dr. Chang and he's top notch. Any fillings or crowns are always well done and match nicely. Not sure what else to say other than this office comes as high recommended. read more

These folks were more than happy to accommodate me on a day's notice, which is worthy of a bunch of stars alone. As far as the quality of the work, Dr. Chang has great numbing skills, a straightforward and professional bedside (chairside? mouthside?) manner, and a calm, soothing voice. I almost didn't mind that he was straight grinding the funk out of my grill (or in professional terms, eradicating my decay - learned that shit today, holla). I totally needed it too. It was close to painless. The man knows what he's doing. Apparently this place has been around for a long time, but it looks like it was either recently upgraded with decor, or it was just timeless from the jump. Totally off topic and irrelevant to the quality of their work, but the chairs are made of the most buttery soft leather. I would be happy to get a root canal just so I could take a nap there. Went here twice. Nice people, but they don't tell you your co-pay before you go through with the appts they keep reminding you about. They didn't tell me they used up my dental coverage the last time I was there, so I ended up having to pay for the cleaning I didn't really need out of pocket. Also, the dental assistant who was supposed to clean my teeth went on an early lunch so they asked to reschedule my appt to a few hours later. I couldn't, so they found someone else to do it. Apparently she was glad to since I had to pay it in full. The actual dentist just took a quick glance at my mouth & I was done. My mouth didn't even feel really clean. So not worth the $120+ they charged me. I haven't been back since & I don't plan to. Found a better place. read more

You know you have a great dental office when you look forward to visiting the dentist!... and you go 3 times in 1 month.. I had been looking for a new dentist for some time, and found this place on yelp so decided to check it out. I made an appointment with Linda (office manager?) and she was able to accommodate me the very next day due to a cancellation. My visit ended up being with Dr. Chang. He's precise, professional and took the liberty to explain everything he was doing with my teeth and why. I thought it was great that he was so up front, because obviously i couldn't ask. =] So what really caused me to get off my break from yelp was Diane. She was my hygienist for my 3rd visit for a teeth cleaning. I told her to get loose and i didn't mind the pain if it could be a good teeth cleaning, really digging in there into my gum line. Is it just me or do other people like getting their teeth cleaned too? What impressed me was that she knew which side I usually sleep on, and which side I usually chew on.. just by looking at my teeth and gums!! Now... that's IMPRESSIVE! I am not kidding when I tell you to come here. I've been talking about my dentist so much to my sisters, they think I've joined a dental cult.. But seriously, come here! I've heard nothing but good things from this dentist office... from coworkers and from Yelp... but I am less than thrilled by my experience. I tried to transfer from Warm Springs Dental (too far of a drive). I asked the front office at Barr, P and Chang if my records needed to be sent over and the woman specifically, said "no". I scheduled an appointment online but the system didn't work. I took a day off work to find that I did NOT have an appointment. Granted, the office did call my cell phone and left a message but I check my messages too late. However my insurance doesn't cover Xray if it was done within 5 years! The xray was not necessary! I could have easily (and willingly) picked up my old files or had them sent over. $144!!! I hope to resolve this issue and return to Yelp with a good news update. If not, my husband and, I and our family will move to a different dentist office that is not so wasteful. ---- Update: I just called the office and the issue was quickly resolved. I was not charged the $144... however, I still think it is wasteful to bill Delta Dental when old records w/in the 5 years is just fine. If there is a reason for this, then I would like to hear it. Looking back at the actual visit itself: Chang and associates did a routine exam, cleaning, and an xray. Dr. Chang was a good dentist himself... a Logan High graduate. He told me what he was doing in my mouth, shook my hand and was off to the next patient. My teeth cleaning experience was also good. The dental hygienist was careful, thorough, and I never experienced pain. I love a fresh mouth! However, the magazine in the waiting rooms could improve. I like a variety of reading material... not just parenting magazines. How about some National Geographic Traveler or the Economist? read more

I've always had bad experiences when going to the dentist. I've had three different dentists in the past five years. The last dentist seemed like she wanted to add more dental work than I needed just to get insurance money. Yes, that was lame. I decided to go on Yelp and read what people were saying about the dentists in my area. Thanks to all you Yelpers, I decided to give this dental office a try. I called in and asked if they took my dental insurance. Once they verified my insurance, they scheduled me for an appointment and I was seen within a week's time. I was impressed. I went to appointment and the staff and dental technicians were super friendly. I saw Dr. Leon Chang and he was great. Very forward and extremely knowledgeable. You can rarely expect a checkup and cleaning to go as well as mine did today with Dr. Chang. I hadn't chosen a dentist in my area yet and so I found him on Yelp. They fit me in to a cancellation, and Lynda the front desk staff was so kind and smiley and seemed to really enjoy her job.The dental assistant was quick and efficient with the X-Rays, and Dr. Chang was calm, knowledgeable and not condescending as he explained things or answered my questions. I loved the fact that he had no qualms about explaining prices to me, and different options. HE DID NOT UP-SALE! That in itself is worth five stars. When I asked about teeth whitening, he gave me several options to fit different time frames and budgets. I had had some work done in Argentina where my husband grew up, when I did not have insurance and Dr. Chang complimented the great work the dentist had done, and was really honest about what a great deal I had gotten.
