I've been going to Dr Chang's dental office for 25 years, from when I was still single (used to be Dr Barr & Poindexter). Now our entire family goes there. Dr Chang is very good at what he does, plus he's very personable and professional. The hygienists are the best too (we especially like Uma and Katy). That's why we still go there despite the long commute (sometimes takes almost 2 hours one way due to heavy traffic). I just wish their practice would be part of a network or at least give discounts to offset being out-of-network. I have always felt like we are in good hands and look forward to seeing them at our visits. I saw Dr. Leon Chang for a consultation after not seeing a dentist for a very, very, very long time. I had a toothache that was really bothering me and found that I might have to either get a filling or a root canal. Going with the more conservative route, we opted for the filling, and Dr. Chang asked me to call his emergency number in case I was still feeling any pain after the numbness from the anesthesia wore off. Unfortunately, it did, so I called, and he squeezed me in the next morning (on a busy Saturday) to get a root canal. I was super surprised that the root canal didn't hurt at ALL. Even after anesthesia had worn off. Since the filling option didn't work out, he courteously removed that charge from the bill. And he really does draw pictures to help explain what he's doing if you have any questions. :) The hygienists and staff at this office are also very courteous and friendly. I noticed that the children that left the office were all smiles and that they also got to choose a toy from the office's treasure chest. I seem to have gotten the short end of the stick here. I see there are plenty of great reviews, but I can't say I had the same experience. I found Dr. Chang pretty cold. He rarely spoke to me and (I felt) rather condescending when he did. I did have Dr. Pointdexter once and he seemed really friendly. The assistants could be a mix. Some were really friendly, others were a little too nice, while I definitely had some who were pretty distant. Maybe I did something, but I have no idea. Maybe it was just a personality conflict. Eventually I stopped going since they weren't in my network. Clearly most other people had good experiences here, so I guess it might have been me. read more

My mother has been a patient of Dr. Chang for about year. She has a low tolerance for pain. The range of services sought has been regular check-ups, cleaning and a crown. PROS: 1. Dr. Chang is highly competent, friendly, patient, and explains what he wants to do. If Dr. Chang isn't in the office, his dental partners are highly professional, competent and nice too. The entire staff is a pleasure to work with. 2. The office doesn't up sell its services or scare you into getting costly dental work that is not necessary. 3. They are open some Saturdays. 4. They offer a senior citizen discount. 5. Dr. Chang is fluent in English and Cantonese. CONS: Prices for cash paying patients are not the cheapest but I believe the quality justifies the price. Came here to have a dental guard modified. The dental guard was fitted and fabricated though another dentist and was functioning very poorly. This office took care of everything courteously, professionally, and, most importantly, with a person to person touch. The dentist spent a good deal of time re-fitting the dental guard even though they were not getting the big bucks in fitting and making it. The dental guard came out great and is working overwhelmingly better than it was before. I will definitely be sending by dental business there when needed. read more

Dr. Christina Chang was recommended by our pediatrics doctor. When I first stepped into the office, I wasn't sold on a "kid-inspired" office I expected. The entire office was like any dentist office, no hint of a kids space. I was having doubts that my kids were sent to a pediatrics dentist. Dr. Chang, though, was fantastic. She interacted with the kids and got them really comfortable with her and the equipments before their exams and cleaning. My kids were two at the time, and they didn't cry at all during the entire process. Dr. Chang is really good with them. I can't wait for her office to open next door so that it would really have the feel and look of a kids' dentist place...and I hope the office assistant Linda will be there because Linda was so helpful when I was having problems with the Delta claims. read more

I have been going to Dr. Chang's office since they opened approximately 40 years ago. The original dentists were doctors Barr, Poindexter and Edwards. Dr. Chang became my regular dentist when Dr. Edwards left. It was a smooth transition. I've been very happy in Dr. Chang's care. I moved from Union City quite a while ago but I continue to go back to Dr. Chang's office for my cleanings and any other dental needs. Dr. Chang and his staff are friendly and like a family.
