Do not go here. They do not have the skill set. They leave stain all around your fingers. They didn't clean the nail bed or remove any cuticles for the pedicures or the full set nor the dip. I didn't want dip but the guy said it would be better. He most likely recommended it since gel would have taken longer. It looks like I need a pedicure and my hands look beat up. I've been going to Leon Nails for several years now and love it. It's a family run business - everyone is very friendly. Tam is a master at all things manicure related - his dip technique is so good (doesn't look too thick or chunky) and I often get a lot of compliments. Victoria gives an amazing pedicure. I was visiting my sister in San Antonio and needed an update on my gel manicure, which had fallen apart from being in and out of the pool and the sun. On my last visit to SA, I had bookmarked Leon Nails for its high reviews, but ended up at Asiana Nail Lounge instead. This time around, I decided to try Leon Nails, which was in the Castle Hills area and closer to her home. I have to admit, I was not all that impressed. I decided to try Henry based on his high reviews. I arrived right on time for my 1:30 PM appointment, and was greeted by Tam, who instructed me to take a seat and wait. The waiting area was quite nice, with plushy chairs and many glossy magazines for reading. They also had an area for coffee and water bottles. Henry did not appear from the back until 15 minutes after my appointment time, which made me worry that I'd be there longer than 2:30 PM. Some salons will offer the colors to be selected, or a bottle of water, while customers wait, but not this place. I'm quite picky about colors, so I could have used that time to look through colors, especially since Leon has their gel colors displayed in an awkward way, on individual plastic sticks crowded onto a metal ring. Henry finally started on me, and noted that at my previous salon, they had used the wrong topcoat (for acrylics) and that is why it had caused my gel polish to crack so badly. He removed the old paint carefully using foil and acetone, then scraping gently, and then he had to resort to light drilling. He did a good job at that, not overdrilling or hurting me. He trimmed my nails and filed them, and I was happy to see that he listened to what I wanted. I asked for short nails, square with rounded edges, and he did a great job at that. He did a very cursory cuticle trim (he barely trimmed any of it) and then a super quick buff (literally only a few seconds) and then began painting. My hands were in the LED curing light device within 20-25 minutes, which is the fastest removal, soak, cuticle trim, and paint I've ever had. Honestly, the mani just didn't feel very thorough. I picked a neon yellow color (Perfect Match Happy Hour) and neons are usually somewhat thin and streaky, requiring three coats. But after two coats, he started brushing on the topcoat. I asked him if it might be better to do three coats, but he said, "No, the color is fine with two." Of course, later when I got home, I saw the streakiness, the beginning of air bubbles, and uneven color. The cuticles were not very neat, with paint on the skin on some fingers and wavy, uneven edges. They're going to look a mess when they start growing out, and they do look as if I did them myself. Streaky. Bumpy. Amateurish. PROS: Quick and easy to get an appointment by phone. Salon is clean and chairs are comfy. Trimming and filing. In and out quickly. Henry's calm demeanor. Massage duration a good length of time and felt firm. CONS: Cuticle care and painting ability are lacking. Appointment did not begin at scheduled time. $30 for a gel mani is less than I've paid at other San Antonio salons (this price seems pretty typical for San Antonio) but I still think it's too pricy for the service I received. OVERALL: My search for the ideal nail salon (while visiting San Antonio) continues. This place is not it. read more

Went here on a Saturday for powder dip. The owner's daughter did my nails. I like my old nails soaked off and I was told yes. She barely soaked my right hand then filed the rest of the old off. At the end she pulled a pair of cuticle clippers from her drawer and proceeded to clip at the skin around my nails cutting and making me bleed. The following Monday I started to experience pain in three of my fingers, y Tuesday it was quite apparent I had a bad infection on 3 fingers with pus coming from the side and swelling and redness. I had to go to the doctor and was given oral antibiotics. It has been 4 days of antibiotics and they are not getting any better. I will be calling my primary care doctor back in the morning to see what can be done to clear up the infection. read more

I wanted to make sure I came here a couple times to get my nails done before reviewing. I only ever get shellac/gel manicures, so I can't comment on the rest of the services done here. Everytime I walk in, I'm immediately greeted and asked what service I want. I've never made an appointment here, but I do hear the workers verifying appointments. Unless you're in a hurry, no need to make one. I've never had to wait, but I've also never come on the weekend. When I do make it here for a manicure, I'll come anywhere from 10am-12pm, and there was only one day it was more crowded than I had experienced before. However, I did not see anyone that had to wait. The salon itself isn't huge, but it's certainly nicer and well-kept than the other nail salon I was going to before. I've had my nails done by Rose (who is super sweet, btw) and two other ladies. Every single time, great customer service and a high-quality manicure. I'm SUPER picky when it comes to getting gel manicures. I've been to other nail salons where they don't clean up the sides of your nails so within a week, the polish starts lifting up, defeating the purpose of even getting a gel manicure in the first place. It should last you AT LEAST 3 weeks. My gel manicures have always lasted me a good 3 weeks, sometimes more, depending on how harsh I am on my nails while using my hands for everyday tasks. The time and meticulous detail that each nail tech puts into the manicure pays off in how well the manicure lasts! They make sure to clean the sides and also take care in painting polish along the tip of the nail to assure that premature chipping doesn't happen. For a $30 gel manicure, this is a steal for the service you receive. This is my new go-to nail salon! read more

Went in on my lunch break last Friday to have my extremely old and decrepit acrylic nails removed and have a simple shellac done in its place. The whole experience was very pleasant, I think they did a great job. I came in, was greeted immediately and seated not even a minute after. The lady who worked on removing my nails was very polite and was very gentle (and concerned) with whether she was causing me any discomfort while removing the old acrylics. The shellac process went even smoother with the gentleman there and I think my nails turned out great (see attached picture and judge for yourself!). I don't get my nails done often, but I definitely recommend this salon if you're looking for a place that's not only got quality, quick, friendly service AND easy on the wallet (total visit cost me $30), come here! Super bummed Timmy is gone. :\ I absolutely loved his attention to detail and how meticulous he was. I wanted to come back and give it a try. My nails were done one week ago; and they are already looking pretty terrible around the edges. They are definitely coming up and look like I have been pulling them off; but have not been. I did notice I was also *bleeding* in 3 different spots after they were done. Once I saw that and felt the discomfort; I just can't return. That really bothers me. There wasn't a hand rub or lotion or anything else involved. Really nice people; but with the nails being how they are now and the bleeding... I probably will try another place. I shouldn't have little scabs on my cuticles. I really hope those drills were sanitized before that happened to me. I really, really do. It was done quickly; but maybe too fast. For what I paid, they should be holding up longer. The paint had already started chipping away after 2-3 days. I think I will have to look elsewhere. These nails need to be fixed ASAP. read more

I wish I had better things to say about my visit! After reading so many wonderful reviews and researching all kinds of salons to try I have to say I am SO DISAPPOINTED and upset with how my visit went! I came into the salon a little over an hr before they closed was greeted took a seat and waited finally someone told me they were ready for me sat down explained what I wanted was so shocked to have my cuticles pushed down by the techs own finger nails which was so painful everything was rushed! So much glue was used to was dripping down my skin! She asked how much long I wanted and I said oh I like them kinda short not too long and to my horror grabbed scissors and cut my nail almost to nothing!!!!! Next she asked the shape I told myself okay give it a chance don't panic I wanted square round shape not hard! Wrong! She took scissors to shape the nail filed them and they were square on each side I was so upset I asked I need my nail longer she was nice and took it off and at this point I was crying asked for of my nails to be removed which they did so she brought a gentleman with her as he watched her soak off my nails took my nails off while I was sobbing I was so unhappy!!!! It was so unsanitary and I felt sick! She took off my nails and said okay your done bye! No one acknowledged the problem or even offer a solution! It was bad business and they made me feel like I did not matter! This was my first time getting a manicure at this salon, and how impressed I was! A friend of mine recommended Henry to me. As a person with OCD like tendencies, I am very picky and hard to please when it comes to the quality of my nails. Right away, I could tell Henry took pride in his work. He recognized that my nail shape was different and adjusted his technique to ensure that all my nails were even and to my liking. I did not have to correct him once or have him redo a nail while shaping them. While applying the Shellac, he did such an awesome job taking his time and ensuring his work was quality. We have been in SA about a year and I have tried several nail salons but had not quite found a fit until NOW! Trinh just blew my socks off... ! My pedi was simple and great. So happy that I decided to stop by Leon Nails this morning. I got a french-tip gel manicure from another local nail salon this past Tuesday; those of you who love Shellac for its durability and clean appearance will understand my dismay when my manicure was already chipping AND discoloring after only two days. Unfortunately, I did not want to go back to the original salon and get the nail tech in trouble, as I got the sense that the owners would take it out on her. So, I decided to try Leon Nails. GOOD CHOICE, me! They are an extremely welcoming, competent, and clean salon. I was a walk in on what appeared to be a busy day, but once I explained my situation they got me set up to remove the old gel and Justine started on my new manicure right away. $35 for french tip gel manicure is average, but the Justine gave me a FAR above average french tip. They are PERFECT! If you're like my and obsess about uneven lines, slight chipping, etc., then you'll understand that I mean what I say. Researched yelp for a good nail salon. I NEVER get my nails done so I had no idea where to go. We have a vacation trip to Miami so I really wanted to get something fun with nail art. I needed a set with nail art and a pedicure. Leon nails had all great reviews and I'm glad I chose it! I went two days before my trip only equipped with a photo from the Internet of this multicolored ombré nail art with paint splatter. She said they didn't have the polish type or tools for that kind of work but that she'd get it as close as possible. It came out amazing! Even better than the photo from a nail blog. I looked up this place through yelp because I was in the mood to get my nails done. This place was easy to find, nicely decorated and I sat down at a chair as soon as I walked in. I had Trinity doing my nails and she was very nice and we had a great conversation. Water wasn't offered which isn't a huge deal to me like I know it is for some. I for a pink and white set and paid 40 dollars which I feel is a little on the expensive side since I'm so use to paying in the 30 range. I had my acrylic nails done at Leon Nails for about a year. The service was generally good. I always made an appointment and was usually seen as soon as I arrived. The manicurist usually did an excellent job. After I broke one while doing laundry (my fault, not theirs) I went back on a Saturday afternoon for a repair. Even though the salon was crowded, I only waited about two minutes, my nail was fixed in a jiffy, and I wasn't charged. The only problem I had was that a couple of times they used old polish that did not ever dry fully and both times I ended up with a mess that I had to re-do. After the second mess, I decided to go somewhere else -- especially since they had recommended that specific polish to me. They are nice people. Just be careful to choose fresh polish. They should know that it only lasts so long. I have acrylic nails and paid $22 + tip for a fill. Very reasonable. read more

I went to this nail shop based off the yelp rating, and price that others had listed. My technician was Victoria, and she was just lovely. She was a great conversationalist, very welcoming and great at making you feel like you are getting the attention you deserve. I got a mani/pedi, plus an eyebrow wax for roughly $50! That's such a great price. I live north of 1604 and all the nail shops there try to add extra things to up the price. Mud is free.. Not $20 and I don't want it on my legs. I came in this morning to get a full set and gel pedicure, I loved my coffin nails and was skeptical about my pedicure. My first visit gets an A!! Henry is a super comfortable and capable. Doesn't pressure you to talk-but does carry on a good casual conversation. (Sometimes they just talk and talk and talk and all you want to do is relax-ya know). Also he didn't unnecessarily abuse my nails with drills and over filing! He did a meticulous job on my gel manicure. I love it. I just hope it sticks. I have some horribly oily nail beds that make every polish peel. I was in and out in less than 90 minutes, and my nail technician did absolutely everything that I asked! My nails look gorgeous! The prices were reasonable, and she even broke it down for me. Today I visited Leon Nails to treat myself to an early birthday present and was extremely happy with the experience and the salon was clean and had a fresh feeling. I was immediately seated by Trinity who did an excellent job. She was very kind to me and my nails, listened to any concerns I had and made sure I was happy with the cut if the nail and color choice. I also got shellac for the first time and I don't know the average cost of shellac manicures are but I paid $30 plus a $5 tip. I def will be back and to see Trinity.
