This place is really neat inside. The pizza used to be better, but still ok. The salads, tenderloins, cheeseburgers etc...all pretty good. I like this place because they put up with young children so well! So, if you have a messy couple of kids that leave more food on the floor than in their tummies, then get em on down to Leonardo's and let them go nuts! I also like the atmosphere. First, the food is nothing spectacular, but the atmosphere is what people really come here for. The vintage lighted sign out front is very cool. When you go in, the walls are upholstered in black leather, and you seat yourself in red leather booths or at the bar. There are no tables. I've eaten pizza all over the country and this is the first time I've every thrown pizza away? Maybe it was the sausage, it wasn't italian and had an "off" taste. Last weekend my son from Milwaukee picked up a pizza we had ordered on the phone - We were very disappointed to say the least - we use to eat at Leonardo's once a week and loved the pizza because it was very juicy, cheesy and meaty and cut in little squares - not now - it was so dry and the hamburger so fine we could not even taste it - this summer we were with family who had the same problem - what happened since you remodeled? - our last Casey's pizza was MUCH better - we don't plan to return to Leonardo's any time soon. read more

It was the end of a hellacious day and at 12o'clock on a Friday night we did not want to go home and cook. Called in a pizza at Leonardo's. It was hot and ready when we arrived. We did take it home because we were exhausted. It fit the bill perfectly. I do have to say I have been a customer of this Leonardo's for over 40 years (beginnning as student at Wash High School....I think there are other H.S. in town.....but I don't know...lol) Good old fashioned, thin crust. I heard about this place on the radio (hundreds of times). When we were here for a convention and couldn't decide on a place to go (Olive Garden had a 45 minute wait), I remembered this place and we tried it out. I was very pleased! I gave three stars; maybe it should be four stars. We got into Cedar Rapids from AZ past 9 pm at night last Friday. We were tired and just wanted pizza and a beer. We found that most places closed at 9 pm and finally got a recommendation to go have pizza from the desk person at the hotel. We got there around 9:30 pm and they were still going strong. We walked in and it reminded me of those tavern/food joints that I used to frequent in my college years in upstate New York, over 40 years ago. My GF ordered a kahlua and milk (they had no cream) and I ordered a Rebel IPA......that was the only IPA they had and I did not care for it. Then I discovered some pale ales on tap, but I forgot what they were. They serve them in small, 10 oz. glasses, but at only $2.50 or so in price. That was nice. I was gonna order salad with our pizza but my GF said just order the pizza since she was not too hungry. They have two sizes -- 13 inches and 16 inches. We ordered the combo, 13 inch, deep dish. It as perfect! Not too thick, not too thin, with a nice crispy crust and lots of toppings and cheese. We both ate two slices each and took the remaining 4 slices back to the hotel and gave them to the desk person since it was her recommendation for us to go here. We were satisfied and I thought the food was good and the "on tap" ales were good too. Love Leonardos! Was introduced to this family-owned pizza place by my husband who grew up in Cedar Rapids. You can't get this pizza anywhere else. HORRIBLE! Ordered 2 pizzas for take out and arrived to get only 1 pizza. They never apologized just said they were busy. I wish I could give 0 stars. We were here for the first time tonight. First off, it was a Wednesday night around 6. There were a few patrons, but they were not busy by any means. We ordered a pizza and two enchilada meals for a table of four. We waited an hour. Servers kept coming to our table asking us if we ordered a beer, we kept replying no, we did not. Our server had almost no teeth...in fact the entirety of the staff looked like the cream of the crop from "people of Wal-Mart" posts. No clean uniforms, just street clothes, not even name tags. So we waited...and waited...and finally they bring out the pizza. 15 minutes before they brought out the other two meals. So we waited some more. They brought out one enchilada meal and five minutes later, the other. I ordered olives and jalapeños with it and asked our server for them, she said they were being prepared in the kitchen (how much preparation do those items take?!)...so we waited. They never came out. Our server never came back. We had to flag her down to get our check and once she took our card we waited another 10 minutes to get it back. The pizza is fine, nothing spectacular. The enchiladas were disgusting and mostly inedible. They were poorly seasoned and nothing more than Americanized burritos drenched in nacho cheese sauce and at least a half cup of sour cream. Leonardos needs to revamp their staff...they need a better cook with better recipes (or just specialize in Italian and ditch the Mexican all together)...and they need a much more attentive wait staff. Hands down the best service experience I have had in Cedar Rapids , Iowa since I moved to the area 2.5 years ago. I am 41 years old, but can really get into this throw back smoke free decor of yesterday's times transported to moderen day competition for business. i went the this restauraunt in an attempt to find a good pizza in cedar rapids. i must say that this is some of the worst garbage i have ever put into my mouth. there was hardly any sauce and the sausage was an overload of unseasoned dirt that completly took over the sensation of even eating pizza and made me feel like was was eating microwaved ground pork on a slice of buttered toasted wonderbread. i ordered this pizza for carryout and upon entrance i have to admit i admired the corky if not a bit cheesy atmosphere. long story short...if you think this garbage is even acceptable to be called pizza then you need not eat at all. read more
