Large White Cheese Pizza with Regular Crust and 8 slices
    Alexandria S.

Ordered carry out for a large white regular crust cheese pizza for lunch on Super Bowl Sunday. Delicious pizza with a perfect ratio of sauce to cheese to dough! Not too oily but definitely not dry. Pizza was ready in 15 minutes-- great service! Friendly employees and speedy service :)

Best pizza in Portland, hands down. Maybe even the state of Maine. I've yet to find another pizza that has more flavor than Leo's. They use fresh veggies and SLAMMIN' flavorful mozzarella. They have so many options- vegan, veg, meaty, gluten free- and you can build your own pizza super easily. Their cheesy garlic breadsticks are amazing, their Nutella sticks are amazing.... their delivery arrives SO FAST and the food is still SO HOT. Can't say enough about Leo's. The friendly staff and easy online ordering make them no doubt a five star place.

This is the BEST pizza we've had in Portland. PERIOD. I'm not kidding when I tell you I am still dreaming about our pizza from Leonardo's. It was a Friday night, drinks were being served, and naturally a pizza was the only thing missing. We decided to order Leonardo's for the first time and went on their very user friendly website to order one of their specialty pizzas. Everything looked amazing on their menu, but we decided to go for the Fennel & Sausage pizza, and I truly don't think we can ever go back now. They nailed absolutely everything about it - the crust, the cheese, the sausage, all of it. We also did a side of their cheesy bread and it was some of the best cheesy bread I've had. The pizza was also fairly priced for how big and packed it is. We obviously had leftovers, which tasted just as good the next day. Delivery fees were also affordable, especially for the Portland area, and they quickly delivered the pizza to us. We will be ordering again very soon. I think we found our pizza go-to.

I must have driven by the modest little blue and white storefront that is Leonardo's on Forest Ave. before deciding to give the pizza a try, and I'm super glad I did! I've tried some of the other Portland pizza places and they've been good, but Leonardo's has become my favorite. Pizzas are clearly their specialty (there are a few chicken and salad sides too), and you can either build your own or there's a great list of their original combos. I love the Pickle Pepper Ranch: shown in the photo with a few modifications (I swapped out the roasted red peppers for banana peppers, and added black olives and pepperoni). The online ordering system appears a bit dated at first, but it's actually easy to use and thorough--you choose your crust and can make any modifications you want! Easy! Gluten-free options available if you want them too. Toppings are fresh, generous, and tasty. Takeout only, FYI.

From the outside, this place could easily be overlooked. It's a place you might drive by and think "hmm...hit or miss." But it is a HIT. Leonardo's makes delicious, gooey, loaded pizzas that I think are the best in Portland, and it is always a great bang for your buck. There is nothing particularly fancy about the place itself, but they have mouth-watering pizza at good prices and the staff are always friendly. Plus they deliver for free! My favorite thing to get is the vegan pizza. It has melt-in-your-mouth vegan cheese and is loaded with fresh veggies.

Yeah, they have good pizza with nice vegetarian options and, amazingly, whole wheat crust option. But why would I review Leonardos now after all these years? Because I just discovered they have the only BAKED chicken tenders I know! And they're delicious. No bready crumby deep fried nonsense. Just tender chicken and spices. Loved them! Sriracha option was tasty and spicy. Fav pizza is fennel sausage on whole wheat but we just tried the loaded and it was excellent. Nice that they still distribute coupons locally.

This is the chicken they gave me last night. Sad part is when I came back and told them about it they were smiling if not LAUGHING!! And definitely not surprised at all about it. Still feel sick to my stomach.

Touch and go. When a go, it's great. When it's not, it's just not. The service is what you'd expect for a pizza spot.

It's unique and it's simple -- but the flavors created are something to keep coming back for. In my most recent visit, we had a pretty bad experience leading up to the pizzas actually being served. We had some friends visiting and decided to go to grab pizza after sending a small group back to the mainland on the 6 o'clock boat. Our order must have been placed maybe 5 or 10 minutes after 6... we weren't served our first pizza until after 8 PM. And our second pizza lagged behind that one by nearly 10 minutes. I can understand how, taken out of context, this can be seen as a petty complaint. However, it really was a discouraging experience because we had multiple (at least half a dozen) other groups order well after us and enjoy their entire dining experience all around us. The group ordering behind us enjoyed their pizzas, bottles of wine and chit chatted for nearly a half hour after their indulgences... and still rode off in their golf cart before our pizzas even made it into the oven. The part that really baffled me was that we took the opportunity to speak with the staff about what was causing the delay -- simply asking if our pizza order had been started or not yet and the explanation was "our team has made several mistakes this evening and we don't have a good estimate on how long it'll take for your pizzas to be ready". We got the same explanation after waiting for 45 minutes and again after nearly an hour and a half. It seemed like a pretty inadequate answer when their wood-fired oven was often not full of cooking pizzas and their entire staff was dancing to the music playing on their speakers. In the end... the pizza was good (same quality as expected). But my experience left something to be seriously desired.

My friend and I decided to split a pizza and it was a good sharing size. We got the burrata and it was delicious! The cashier told us it would be about 45 and I think it was a bit less than that but expect a bit of a wait on a busy weekend. The crust is super thin and floppy but good texture and taste! The sauce was flavorful and the burrata was perfect.

I do wish I would have returned sooner and/or may need to come back one more time before they close. Street parking nearby was easy enough to find. Walking in mid day on Saturday it wasn't too busy so after a short wait we were sat down. Which then lead to the biggest negative of our experience which was waiting for being greeted and also orders being taken. Granted our server did apologize and thank us for our patience. We started off with a cocktail I had the California Sour (had a good bourbon kick) and my wife had the Pineapple Rum Punch and enjoyed it. I enjoyed their rotating speciality pizza that was a Chicken Bacon Ranch and it was delicious top notch pizza. My wife got the Fried Chicken Vodka Parm Sandwich and the chicken was cooked to perfection! We also tried their appetizer of Scrappy Fries and it was a perfect app for our table to share and the meat scraps stood and had so much flavor to it. Thinner crust, decent structure, more structured than a NY, less structured than a Sicilian or a good grandma style. It's a little lighter than a Sicilian or grandma in terms of crust. "Heaviness" is pretty subjective depending on the toppings. The pizza - Soppresatta was packed with flavor, salty, spicy, little sweet from a touch of honey and a very fresh, slightly punchy sauce - keeps some acidity and tastes lively. The crust was delicious, from what I read, this is a sourdough crust. Definitely had some good character and flavor to it.. I got this heated before eating it. The vegan special - obviously I'm not vegan, but that pizza looked phenomenal. Had to try it. This one did not get heated up as it was suggested to leave it cold (logical considering it basically has a salad on top). I don't know what the vegan cheese was but it tasted like a whipped ricotta/goat cheese would. The fresh tomato, pickled peppers and red onion all played perfectly together. I'd certainly go back here. A little on the pricey side but I think it rang in around $18 on these 2 slices (yes, pictured is considered a slice of each) I was plenty satisfied.
