By far, top three Hawaiian BBQ in the valley. I've been coming to Leo's Island BBQ for years and noticed that I have never reviewed them! Shame on me to not share this gem that should be celebrated by all. First, the mac salad at Leo's is hands down my favorite! For the entree, anything curry, shrimp or chicken. I am drooling as I write this! The curry hits you in all the right spots as you take your first bite. The vegetables with the curry are firm enough to not turn into mush and tender enough to eat without teeth :-).... I do not think I've had a plate at Leo's that I have not enjoyed. The dinning area is always clean, even when the line is out the door. The drink station and condiment area is equally as clean and orderly regardless of the amount of people inside. As for the crowds, I've seen UFC fighters, baseball players and ordinary folks like you and I getting their fix at Leo's! I love seeing the same employees for the years that I've been going. Even though I am one face of many that they see. They are very welcoming to every customer who walks in. I can't tell you enough. You must try this place if you have not yet. Great food and super quick service! I stopped by for an early dinner (or late lunch), and even though it was pretty busy, everything moved fast and smoothly. They have indoor seating with a calm, quiet ambiance, which I really liked. Some spots in the parking lot were available but there's plenty more parking available around the plaza. We were in the area shopping and were looking for something new and came across this place and saw the good reviews and decided to try it out , and I'm so glad we did. I ended up getting the chicken combo with Katsu Chicken and BBQ Chicken which were both really good it also came with some broccoli 2 scoops of rice and a scoop of Mac Salad. We also got a mini meal which was much bigger than we expected just with one scoop of rice and 1 scoop of Mac salad and plenty of chicken. Interesting place. My hubby and I were looking for Island BBQ. Specifically the plate combo that has an entree, rice, steamed veggies and there's yummy infamous Mac salad. We get there and the decor mostly points to southeast Asian and they also had some pics of some of the Hawaiian islands. Okay then. I ordered the chicken BBQ plate, hubby ordered the beef BbQ plate. We were not disappointed at all. In fact, the island flavors were spot on. Our meals definitely had a more authentic flair. We also ordered spam musubi (yummy) 2 musubi come with the order. I would truly give this a 4.5 some stuff was great and other stuff was good. The stuff that was best was the katsu (truly very good), the BBQ beef (excellent), the rice was perfect and the Manapua was pretty darn authentic. The service was excellent. We called about15 min before hand and they had all of it made and ready to go for us. The restaurant was busy but no wait when we got in there. Any time a Hawaiian place is busy it is a good sign. We are lucky this place is so far from our house because we would go here more often we did. In all we bought a family meal ($46) which was plenty of food, plus a side of rice, and two orders of Monapua and spent $68. Think that's the best price in town for the value of Hawaiian food! Easily the best Hawaiian BBQ place in the area with generous portions, consistent quality, and just really yummy food. Our favorite is the chicken katsu. I've had the chicken katsu with curry before as well and it was comforting. We've also had their bbq chicken and beef. Honestly, you can't go wrong with what you choose here. Service is alright, no complaints, ambiance is casual, parking can be a bit hectic on the weekends cause it's located in a busy plaza. I am and always will be a huge fan of Leo's. Customer service is always great. You're always greeted when you walk in. Their food is cooked to order and it is delicious. The teriyaki meet was very good meat tender and the marinade was very good. The macaroni and rice remind me of the islands. Stop by say hi and something to eat. There are plenty of options. I was craving Hawaiian barbecue and was in the west side so decided to hit up Leo's island bbq because when I lived on this is if town is always hit!! I got the chicken and rib combo plate to share with my gf because the portions are huge!! It comes with bbq chicken, chicken katsu and short ribs. Also come with two scoops of rice and a scoop of macaroni salad. And that's not all ... some steamed veggies as well all of that for 15.49! That's a deal in my opinion. We got that and an extra side of macaroni salad because I remember it was really good. They also have several Hawaiian drinks to choose from in a can, which are all delicious! The macaroni salad was not a sweet as I remember but it was still very good. The bbq and the chicken katsu was our fav. The short ribs were flavorful, but very fatty this time. We also got a mini bowl of the chicken katsu to go for her son and he liked it and was stuffed the mini is also loaded with food!! They have. I had the teriyaki chicken and my sweetheart had the chicken katsu. Both were OFF THE CHART good and there was enough food for both of us for two meals. The staff were very friendly and polite. Best thing about Leo's Island bbq is their bbq chicken. It was absolutely juicy and delicious. The short rib was also delicious; not very fatty yet ton of flavor. Their macaroni salad was also good. This is a small, no frills establishment. But what you are coming for is where they shine: the food. This is authentic island food and plenty of it. You can rarely find portions like these any more. Favorite were the kalbi ribs, katzu chicken, and island bbq chicken. We wished we would have tried the Kailua pork. Everything was prepared well and delicious. I love Leo's! They've got plenty of tasty options, and they're all worth a try. For example, I stopped by yesterday because I was craving their BBQ Short Ribs plate. A friend called on my way to the restaurant and once she found out I was heading to Leo's Island BBQ- asked if I wouldn't mind grabbing her the Grilled Island Fish plate and dropping it off on my way home. "Why sure!" (I didn't mind!) Long story short; I was in a rush when I dropped her plate off, and accidentally left her with my BBQ Short Ribs plate. Whoops. I received the text informing me of my mistake by the time I got home. My heart sank a tiny bit. (My short ribssss!!!) BUT... her Grilled Island Fish plate turned out being DELICIOUS... and it is now one of my new favorite options! Ol' Siggy Freud was right: "There are no accidents." I had forgotten how busy Bell Road is with traffic. I put on the Navi to locate Leo's and was able to pull into the parking lot. It is a tiny place with maybe 10 tables. Most of the tables were occupied with people waiting or enjoying their meal. I got take out. I decided on the chicken combination which included BBQ and katsu chicken, white rice, veggies and Mac salad. Several orders were ahead of me. Everything is cooked fresh to order. I waited about 15 minutes. While I waited, I gathered my containers of teriyaki and katsu sauce. The meal is huge and the prices are super reasonable. Both chickens were delicious especially with the different sauces. Very flavorful and tender. The Mac salad was enough to get a taste. The veggies were fine.
