A sausage other meat sandwich with some of the best beans and mac and cheese I've ever had
    Francesco R.

the food here was absolutely delicious. I had one of those sandwiches that had sausage and pulled pork on it if I can remember it correctly. I also had a side of their baked beans and macaroni and cheese. These were absolutely delicious. The beans had a very unique taste to them not like anything I've ever had before. If I could replicate it at home I would. They reminded me of having a taste so much like the spice from apple pie. I can't tell if it's cinnamon or nutmeg or cloves or something like that but it reminded me of apple pie and it was amazing. service was a little slow and we were the only people in the restaurant at lunch. A very strange arrangement where the girl at the counter takes your money but is not allowed to bring you change. By the time we left, about a half hour after we got there, I was still waiting for some change and in the end I just left without waiting for her to bring it to me because apparently she had to see the guy in the back of the store, I assume the chef or owner, for him to use the register. Seems like you need to hire employees that you trust to run the front of the house including the money.

Potato salad and onion rings! Yesssssss!

DELICIOUS. Had a hankerin' for some bbq, did a yelp search. Decided on this place. Got a lb of brisket and pulled pork, and sides of collards, onion rings, potato salad, and baked beans. Also got extra sauce, both the mustard and tomato based. Brisket, OMG, double OMG. So good! That smokiness. First bite had me saying dear lord Jesus! Pulled pork was a close second, so much yum. Btw, have seen a few posts that mentioned fatty bits as negatives. I LOVE FATTY BITS! Mixed in with the best cuts of meat, moistness and flavor, yes please! Sides were good. Collards hit the spot, not the best I've ever had, but much better than most! Onion rings are great! Potato salad and beans have a tasty uniqueness to them. Still a sucker for a tomato based sauce; enjoyed the mustard based much more than I thought I would. I'm a dipper and the side of tomato was 2/3's gone, mustard was 1/2 gone, so... both good. Give this place a visit, you won't be disappointed. If you're in a rush, call ahead. BBQ is not a quick process, but well worth the wait!

Smokin' the BBQ the way it's meant to be done

Five stars for this authentic barbecue. Found this place onThe way through Richmond and was not disappointed. When you see the cooking going on right there outside the building in the parking lot you know you found the right place. The barbecue sauce is unique and has a tangy zesty mustard-based flavor. I recommend it to any barbecue lover

Pulled pork sandwich was too fatty for me. Had large blobs of fat. I guess you can request a lean pull. Good smoked flavor.

The stuff that my waist line thanks me for not cooking, if you know what I mean... I opted for the country fried steak, mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese, brother chose the pork chop special with mashed potatoes and pickled cukes and onions. The mains were amazing. The pork chop was huge and thick and delicious, the country fried steak was so good, the gravy on both was delicious. The price was a steal. They were both amazing. The mashed potatoes were also both delicious, definitely homemade and not from a box. The baked Mac and cheese was just okay. It tasted like normal homemade Mac and cheese, nothing particularly special, but then I feel like baking it always just dries it out and sort of breaks the cheese sauce, so I would definitely skip that next time in favor of something else. The cukes were also just okay, we got it to feel like we were trying a healthier option, but will probably just splurge for something else next time. We were a little disappointed though, I do understand that this is a local restaurant and some things are harder to get and keep on the menu and keep in stock, especially if you don't want waste, but we initially tried to order corn cakes but they were out, then rolls but they were out, then went with biscuits. Then brother got the last pork chop plate. They have been out of pickle fries for "awhile now". If you aren't particularly picky about what you want to order, cool. I only particularly like cornbread/corncakes, so I was pretty bummed. The people are super friendly though, and a lot of locals seem to come by for their hotdogs (like, a LOT. Clearly we are missing something not ordering the dogs.) I'll definitely be back on days that I had a really healthy breakfast and plan on breaking my healthy streak with something fried and covered in gravy.

As for our meals, the wifey had a sausage omelette and I had bacon omelette. Both omelettes were filled with meats but maybe slightly light on the cheese. But even with that said it was very good. The potatoes and the Texas toast were also very good. As for the size of the meal - both of us left feeling full and that we got our money worth. A good decent meal. Our server was very sweet and attentive and took good care of us. I will say this as well. Our meals came out very quickly. And the place was not overly full, but had a decent amount of customers inside and despite that I wanna say from the time I ordered to the time it was on my table was less than 10 minutes. Very well done. I give this a solid 4 maybe even 4.5 if that was a choice. So if you're just passing through or heading to or leaving Virginia Beach/Outer Banks or a truck driver stopping in from across the street gas stations, I think you'll find that you'll get a very decent meal here .
