This review is long overdue! I met Debra in 2020 and she has been cutting and coloring my hair ever since. I don't trust anyone else to do my hair. Most of the time I don't even know what I want to do with my hair, but she always knows what would look best and I completely trust her vision. The salon has such an upscale feel. They offer complimentary drinks like coffee and tea and yes - this includes wine! Her pricing is also very reasonable considering the high quality of her work. Thank you Debra!! Enjoy these photos of all my hair transformations by Debra.

Women's haircut and blowout by Hailey

The owner of Les Amis Salon, Samantha, posted on Nextdoor that she had a new stylist and was looking for hair models. I responded that I was interested in highlights and a haircut. After a few months, I was finally able to schedule a haircut with Hailey. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the receptionist and was offered a beverage, including alcoholic options which I much appreciated. Soon after, Hailey came out to meet me and she was great! She asked me what kind of cut I wanted and asked me lots of questions, such as products that I use, the last time I washed my hair, etc. After washing my hair, Samantha, then guided Hailey through the process of cutting my hair. She would demonstrate how to do it once , then Hailey would takeover and do the rest of my hair. I was extremely satisfied with my cut, as it was exactly how I wanted. I specifically asked for my hair to be cut just below the shoulder. I requested lots of layers as well as long curtain bangs. Hailey even gave me a beautiful blowout, which lasted 3 days! I got so many compliments on my haircut. I would totally go back to Les Amis Salon to get my hair cut by either Hailey or Samantha again!!!

I've been coming to Les Ami for years now; I did what a lot of ppl do and I went on yelp and picked the salon w/the best reviews. I was never tied to a specific hair stylist because everyone there has always been really great. A little over a year ago I sat in Malus chair and everything changed. She's caring, professional and I trusted her enough to take the leap and finally dye my hair. When i tell you I've never received so many compliments in my life!! No BS, she's a miracle worker. And she's taught me so much about how to take care of it, how to style it at home, and now it's the healthiest it's ever been. Book a consultation with her, I promise you won't regret it. Services aren't the cheapest, but trust me you get what you pay for and it's Money well spent. The salon is also very clean, they have refreshments in the front, booking is easy, plenty of parking in the lot and you can tip Venmo.

Basic ChatGPT prompt re. Keratin. Are you supposed to brush hair after clarifying shampoo?

WARNING. DO NOT GO HERE. SAVE YOURSELF!! TRASHY. UNSANITARY. INCOMPETENT. DISGUSTING. SHUT THIS PLACE DOWN! Please read this before you book here. This is a warning. I've been getting keratin and Brazilian treatments for 20+ years. I know exactly what I'm talking about. A few weeks ago, I called in to book a keratin appointment. I spoke to my stylist many days in advance to personally confirm. My hair is long, blonde, and fragile. Cannot be detangled wet after clarifying shampoo. She agreed to everything on Saturday. She did the exact opposite on Tuesday. After the clarifying shampoo she immediately grabbed a brush and started aggressively detangling my soaking wet hair. I politely asked her to apply keratin strand by strand. Standard practice. To protect the hair. She went ballistic. Offended that I was asking her anything. Yelling. Waving her hands. She threatened to end the treatment and have me leave the salon with dripping wet hair. It was one of the coldest and rainiest days in Foster City history. I asked her to calm down and asked to speak to a manager. The "manager" was rude, condescending, and the opposite of helpful. She confessed the stylist had less than one year of experience. But told me if I don't like the way she brushes my hair, I should leave. Zero fear of consequences. Zero ownership. Zero customer care. Zero responsibility. Zero humanity. I asked the stylist to at least wash and dry my hair before I left. She refused. That is not just bad service. That is a health risk. Illegal. See the video attached. You can hear how calm and polite I was. Now listen to her. "You're being rude because you're telling me how to do my job and you're not a stylist." That was their basis for kicking me out. See the ChatGPT screenshot attached. It confirms what I already knew: you do NOT aggressively brush fully clarified soaking wet hair. Standard professional practice. Something anyone with a valid license would know. I have 20+ years of experience. She has less than one year. On my way out, the blonde receptionist screamed a the F word at me. I turned around. "Did you just say the F word?" She said "yep, keep walking." Verbal abuse. Against a client. I sat in my car for an hour. Shaking and crying. I got sick afterwards from leaving with wet hair in the cold and rain. See the photo of my hair. That dark clump tangled into my blonde hair came from their dirty sink. Unsanitary. A violation of CA state law. The owner is a man from India who was traveling. They refused to give me his contact info or tell me when he'd return. He has left this salon in the hands of people who have no business holding a license in the state of California. I am filing a formal complaint with the California Board of Cosmetology. They need to be investigated. Soon after, I found another salon within a few miles who did my keratin perfectly, with care and competence. They were in disbelief when I told them what happened. To my neighbors in Foster City: do not go here. The 5-star reviews are not real. That is how I was tricked. Don't make the same mistake. Please share and protect others. --- UPDATE: the business owner reached out to me on Yelp asking me to delete or amend my review. They said they'll ask Yelp to remove it. So I am attaching my response to them in the images attached.

    The most perfect highlights!

Malu's work is incredible, and the atmosphere is super harmonious and pleasant! The price is fair. I would recommend it a thousand times!

Ask the Community - Les Amis Salon et Spa

I need to get a man's haircut, which stylist is the best?

Some of the stylists do not cut men's hair. You will need to call the salon and ask them. It would depend on what type of cut you want.

    How much is woman's haircut?

    I believe it's from $80-100

My mom loves to get her hair blow dried straight. I'd like to get her a gift certificate to your place, but curious how much a blowout costs? She's got shoulder length black hair.

Do you offer Japanese straightening Yuko? If so any pictures of before and after hair treatment.

Finding the right hairstylist is truly an art--and finding one you can trust with your young adult…read moreson is even harder! My young adult son to Sunesy and trusted Aaron to take care of him. What impressed me most wasn't just the haircut, but Aaron's patience, professionalism, and genuine care. Aaron handled it with great respect and attentiveness. Interestingly, after the haircut was finished, my son changed his mind about a few details--and Aaron once again responded with patience and grace, making small refinements so my son could feel fully satisfied with the final result. The best review came afterward: his peers noticed and complimented his hair! What also makes Sunesy stand out is the level of customer service. I've been to many Asian-owned salons and businesses where the technical skill may be excellent, but the customer experience can sometimes feel secondary. Sunesy is a different caliber. Aaron combines skill with listening, patience, and hospitality--and that combination is rare. I also realized that finding a great hairstylist is a partnership. Many of us can't perfectly articulate the haircut we want, and sometimes we don't even understand our own hair type, texture, or what will realistically work for us. A talented stylist has to interpret what the client is trying to say, understand the hair in front of them, and guide them toward something that actually works. Aaron does exactly that.

Before the haircut, I clearly explained that I had just gotten my hair cut at another salon two…read moredays earlier and that I wasn't looking for a completely new haircut--I only wanted some adjustments to achieve the style shown in the photos of me before. I specifically asked if the stylist understood the issue and knew what needed to be done, and I was assured that they did. Unfortunately, once the haircut started, there was no communication about how much hair would be removed. The very first cut on the sides was much shorter than I expected, and at that point there was no way to undo it. If the stylist had explained their approach or confirmed the length with me first, I would have had the opportunity to say that it wasn't what I wanted. What disappointed me most wasn't just the final result--it was the lack of communication. When a customer brings reference photos and asks questions beforehand, I expect the stylist to explain the plan and make sure we're aligned before making irreversible changes. I left feeling that my concerns and the reference photos were not really taken into account. I hope the salon can improve communication with customers in the future so others don't have the same experience.

Let me tell you that this place was the MOST I've ever paid for hair coloring and balayage in my life and I've gone to Master hair colorists at luxury salons in the bay area too. Did the prices for hair products increase with Trump too??!? Sheesh. They were nice, talked me through the right shade for the balayage according to my skin tone and then she proceeded to take out a calculator to show me the cost. I was pretty shocked to see the cost, but I already made arrangements to get my hair colored that day so I begrudgingly agreed to proceed. Maybe I should have negotiated or asked if that total included tip? My hair is medium length and layered and the ash blonde/brown came out really nice, but I am still kicking myself for paying this much. I would have expected a nice head massage, complimentary tea or something for paying this much with a balayage, but it was a professional balayage with basic service/experience.

Located in a very prime location in downtown Millbrae, the salon is gorgeous inside! Very modern and clean. I got to my appointment early but was quickly attended to check in. Vee asked if I needed a hair wash which I told him that I already washed the night before. He said because my hair was very dry, he would give me a hair wash. It was so relaxing and he did an amazing job washing and conditioning my hair. Next up was blow-drying and he took a lot of time to not only dry it but used a barrel brush to style it and straighten it after. He was very meticulous! I showed him pictures of my hair inspiration and he said he could do the medium layer cut. I was so impressed with the outcome, it was a wonderful experience and can't wait to come back!

Please do not go to this salon…read more The reviewer who mentioned being treated differently and looked down upon due to not speaking Mandarin was 100% accurate. I experienced the same treatment. I was so hopeful this would be my new go-to salon for cuts & dyes, as Leo's IG was exactly what I was looking for. I booked a hair cut with Leo, "Master" Stylist, for $88 last week, confirmed by their scheduler over Messenger, for a 7:30pm time slot (usually their closing time, but the scheduler assured me it was fine and preferred by Leo). When I walked in, Leo warmly said, "bye bye" to the previous customer, who l heard speaking Mandarin with him. I walked up to greet him, introduced myself, and asked if he was Leo. He looked so bothered and disgusted(??), which completely threw me off. He said yes and pointed for me to sit in the seat, barely greeting me. I said I wanted a trim, and he acknowledged that. Then I said I only wanted 1-2 inches off my long hair, as I wanted to keep my length. I asked for a couple of long layers for my main hair, and more layering for the bangs, citing a really subtle wolf cut or butterfly cut. I showed him photo examples for bangs & layers, he pointed out some were short compared to my hair length, and I confirmed they indeed were too short for me and that these photos were mainly for the layer examples and that I wanted longer. We were the only ones in the salon at this point. He tried to start cutting my hair without a hair wash by putting on the cape (a bit tightly at first), and I asked, "Are you going to wash my hair?" Then, he seemed aggravated and visibly upset by that question and said that my hair is so long that I'd have to pay extra to have a wash included with a cut. He took out his calculator and showed me it would be a bit over $100. I told him the scheduler confirmed it was a flat $88 for a hair cut with him, even when I stated I had long hair and asked about it. I offered to show him the messages, but then he huffed and said, "Fine, OK, $88." He was clearly agitated, roughly took off the cape, and threw it on the nearby chair. It was concerning that he seemed so pissed off... I felt so incredibly uncomfortable due to this behavior, and I contemplated leaving, but wanted to avoid any more negative reactions. So I just hoped for the best and went to the hair wash station. The water he used was a little too hot, and he did not ask once if the temperature was okay, like other salons do. The entire wash was very rushed and rough, and he literally wrung my hair out like a wet towel!! I was shocked. Wringing wet hair causes damage, and no stylist has ever done that to my hair. Stylists normally bunch it in their hands and squeeze the water out gently to protect the hair from breakage. The shampoo and conditioner he used smelled awful, like a cleaning solution with musk. It was really so terrible that I had to wash out when I got home, and 5 shampoos that night didn't fully remove it. Back at the salon chair, he put the cape back on (again, a bit too tightly at first), and used a small, loud hair dryer on maximum heat to dry my hair. He did not put any hair protectant or oil to protect my hair like salons normally do. He clearly was rushing as quickly as possible, yanking at my thin, tangly hair. The heat was too hot for my scalp and it hurt a bit after. During the blow dry, my Asian boyfriend (he's Chinese, not that it's obvious or should even matter??) walked in after parking the car. I waved to him, Leo asked if he's with me, and I said yes. Suddenly, Leo's mood and tone changed when he spoke with me. He talked more in a friendly, gentle "customer service" voice (as used w/ the previous customer). I was shocked at the sudden switch. I wondered why he didn't think I should be treated this way from the beginning? Leo very hastily dry cut my hair and only cut a tiny bit off (maybe less than or up to 1 inch) of the very center back section of hair, then essentially thinned random parts at an angle without trimming in full. So he did not first trim all my hair before going to thin out edges and a bit of slide cutting only. He measured some of the layers to match, which was good, but then he left so much of my hair not cut at all, and I only noticed after getting home. He didn't show me the final back view with mirror like literally all other past stylists have done. He also did not 1) first pull out all my bangs or 2) trim across first. He only made small sideway and slide cuts to thin the edges for some. I found completely missed strands when I got home, and it did not look good. I had to cut those bangs myself, it looked embarrassing to leave them. The almost-45-min service was not worth $88, let alone w/ the rounded-up 15% tip I left, but I wanted to avoid issues and be out of there. The only positive is my hair is still long; however, this felt like a "master" scam rather than a "master" cut. :'( I'm so sad.
