I specifically asked if the stylist understood the issue and knew what needed to be done, and I was assured that they did. Unfortunately, once the haircut started, there was no communication about how much hair would be removed. The very first cut on the sides was much shorter than I expected, and at that point there was no way to undo it. If the stylist had explained their approach or confirmed the length with me first, I would have had the opportunity to say that it wasn't what I wanted. What disappointed me most wasn't just the final result--it was the lack of communication. When a customer brings reference photos and asks questions beforehand, I expect the stylist to explain the plan and make sure we're aligned before making irreversible changes. I left feeling that my concerns and the reference photos were not really taken into account. I hope the salon can improve communication with customers in the future so others don't have the same experience.

I stumbled across this great salon while eating in downtown San Mateo. I set foot inside because it reminded me of a London salon where I used to go when I lived there. I was greeted by much aplomb and graciousness, and soon I was getting my hair cut and styled by the great Sevon. She looks like she stepped off the runway, so fashionable and glam. I truly enjoyed her upbeat and friendly banter, and better yet, I really like what Sevon did with my hair, which is real coarse and has too much hair product. Let me just say I do plan to go back, and my review here is to encourage you to give it a go. If you are looking for a stylish look that compliments you, then Sevon is the right fit. This salon consists of a talented bunch, the colorists are experienced, and I learned that Sevon has been in this line of work for over a decade. I started seeing Sevon at a different salon, and after moving to the East Bay and having a baby, I figured I'd give some more 'local to me' places a try. None of them felt right. I want some who listens to what I like or need (no frills styling due to said baby). After 2 years of missteps, I found out Sevon was at a new place, and I promptly made an appointment. I love that I can make an appointment online, and as a bonus they are close to my work! But mostly, I love Sevon. She does great work, from cut to color. The prices are reasonable. She listens to what I want, what I want to try, offers suggestions or advice, and doesn't push anything I don't want. I take a little bit to warm up to people, but she is always so easy to talk to without forcing awkward conversations. Bobby gives me the best cut and color I have had in my life. I decided to grow my hair longer, and he's a master of giving the perfect layered trim without making it look shorter. I now have regular compliments on my hair (a new experience for me). His skill at doing the right balance of highlights and lowlights is amazing. I don't think his prices are high enough for his expertise (and I rarely say this about anyone!). In addition to all this, he is a kind person with a fun, upbeat personality. Also, he is honest...........when I ask him if it's time for more highlights, I can count on him to look at my hair carefully and say "next time" or "lets wait a month" to get the timing right. The salon is in a great location right downtown San Mateo. I can't wait to sit down and have my hair cut and colored, by none other than my most favorite stylist EVER, Sevon. I have been seeing Sevon for over 12 years, and she is truly talented at coloring and cutting hair. It is too bad that Covid keeps having salons open and close, but when they are open I highly recommend you call Sevon. I am extremely picky and have very high standards when it comes to my hair, not just with color, cuts, and styling, but with the overall health of my hair too. Since I started seeing Briana, my hair has become so much healthier, and she consistently gives me beautiful color and cuts without compromising that. What I love most about Briana is that I can completely trust her vision. I'll sometimes come in with an idea or inspiration, but I never feel like I need to micromanage the appointment. She understands what will work with my hair, features, and overall look, and she has such a natural ability to enhance what already suits you. The second I sit in her chair, I can relax because I know she's going to do her thing and I'm going to leave happy. Beyond being incredibly talented, Briana is down to earth, thoughtful, genuine, and just an all-around wonderful person. Five years of consistently amazing experiences speaks for itself.
