I ordered the following: Lemongrass pork baguette (Bahn Mi) Pho with lean brisket and fatty brisket At first I was shook by how a bahn mi can cost 13 dollars and pho can cost 16 dollars. But honestly, the price was pretty justified haha. Starting off with the bahn mi, there were plenty of pickled vegetables (which were sliced and folded very nicely) and generous amounts of lemongrass pork. The pork was marinated and flavored well- I will say though, although I love the chargrilled/smokey flavor, it was personally a little too strong for me. Everything else about the bahn mi was very well done though. The pho was delicious. Savory broth and the quality of meat was solid. Not sure if anything beats the OG's in Bellaire but it's pretty on par. Aside from the delicious food, the interior was beautiful. The decorations, set up, bathrooms, etc were all well put together. I tried this spot for the first time and ordered for a pickup. I ordered the Braised Beef Belly Baguette and a Kids Pho. I really enjoyed the flavor of the beef belly along side the veggies, so much flavor that compliments each other. I also enjoyed the kids pho, which only consist of the pho broth, beef and noodles tho wish there was a bit of garnish. There was plenty of parking and the service was fine. I ordered extra prawns to go with my vermicelli bowl of coconut basil prawns. They arrived way before the actual bowl and are now getting cold. Very strange to send out the extra side before the actual main bowl. I should have gone with their more unique choices like Old Smoked Brisket or Braised Beef Belly but figured can't go wrong with the classic Lemongrass Pork. Les Ba'get is one of the main reasons I like to venture into Oak Forest during the day. It is a contemporary, non-traditional take on Vietnamese cuisine, which I find refreshing. In the past, I've tried the Filet Mignon Pho, a unique offering, and found the quality to be rather high. Notably, I enjoyed the broth. For my latest meal from Les Ba'get, I tried the Tofu Banh Mi, which is the best I've tried. In the past, I really liked the same sandwich from Les Givrals, but actually, I like the one from Les Ba'get even more. The herby sautéed onion and garlic mixed with the tofu is simple, but great. I wish more restaurants made vegetarian banh mi like this. The bread here is always high quality. On a different note, I think it's really cool that two non-traditional Vietnamese restaurants are located across the street from each other on Ella Boulevard: Saigon Hustle, the drive thru, and Les Ba'get, the café. The hole in the wall Vietnamese restaurants on the West side (Chinatown to Alief) are awesome, but I also like venturing beyond the usual. The interior is modern and ordering is done at the front with table service being minimal / none. We got a few of their shareables; spring rolls, bone marrow, and chicharron. They are all fairly tasty and different from each other, which we enjoyed. Their banh mi were a bit fusion esque rather than traditional and at a pricey $13, drew some initial judgement. I got the prawn banh mi to try because it's something not typically offered at other banh mi places. I liked how they cut the jalapenos, cucumbers, carrots, and daikon radish in a uniform manner so that the vegetables are layered nicely into the sandwich. Vietnamese in Houston is so ubiquitous that inevitably many of them will ultimately mirror each other in food, ambiance, service, or all of the above. Very few of them (#1) will look like LES BA'GET, which has one of the most gorgeous interiors I've seen, along with a quality food and drink program to boot. It might resemble an westernized Asian spot in the burbs on the outside, but dig in a bit deeper and it's much more than a regular casual spot. From the lighting fixtures to the wall murals, furniture pieces to the high beams along the ceiling, this place has both a touch of contemporary vibes with a tinge of sophisticated decor. Big ups to their interior designer for creating such a gorgeous space. The presentation on the food is also on par with the decor: vibrant, colorful, and excellent plating. I appreciate the rich aroma of their pho broth and also love that they're one of the few establishments to offer a choice of baguettes and croissants for their banh mi sandwiches. Their goi cuon is very social media friendly and the fried banh bao is a nice spin on the classic Viet snack. As pretty and as tasty as the food is, the portions are a bit small, especially for the prices. Oak Gardens is not Bellaire Chinatown, so I understand their core demographic also comes with the territory with pricing. I'm also impressed with the selection of drinks, even though the menu is limited (as is their hours) but the pho'chelada is about as Houston of a drink as it gets. The yuzu collins is also creative and their pomegranate margarita is simple, but a stellar drink all around. Non-alcoholic options such as the classic caphe sua da or the all-time gringo fave, Thai tea, are both semi-addicting all around. The service gets a thumbs up and the parking is never a problem. They definitely accept credit cards and the space is ideal for small groups, lunch dates, and even a solo meal. While I wish for longer hours (#2), I am always going to look forward to my meals and subsequent visits to LES BA'GET. ___________ (#1) Or none at all. One of my favorite places to get pho inside the loop. You order at the counter, get a number, pick a table and sit down. There's a ton of parking. the pho broth is flavorful and delicious but not too heavy, and the meats are perfectly tender. They let you add quail eggs too, which I don't see at a lot of inner loop restaurants. The chopped cheese banh mi is a perfect houston fusion food. I have been going to Les Ba'Get since it opened. Ambiance has a chill casual vibe. I always crave their pho on chilly days. I have tried most everything on their menu and everything is delicious. The last few times I have been here my orders has been as followed: Empire egg rolls for the drive home obviously The cold cut bahmi with a side of pho broth to dip my bahmi. Their cocktail specials are great as well. They are not opened on Monday's which is always the day of the week I crave Les Ba'Get (like chick-fil-a on a Sunday). LOL. Since we had a doggo along with us, they have outside seating which accomadated us having a doggo along. This was the "most surprising" but not what you expect. Typical spring roll with unique brisket as a meat instead of boiled pork and/or shrimp. Was ok. Had a great last-minute meal from Le Baget before flying back to NY. We were in a bit of a rush, but still wanted to grab something delicious to go. I opted for Viet because Houston does it better than NY. While waiting for our takeout, we got some cocktails. I ordered the most unique sounding drink on the menu--the Pho'Lody Mary. Yes, it's a bloody mary with pho broth in it. It was... interesting? I always go for the strangest sounding drink on the menu, and this definitely fit the bill. Not a flavor profile I'd seek out, but no regrets trying it. We also got a classic frozen marg. At $9 each, the prices were it!! The coconut basil prawns banh mi, which I ate at the airport, was so good. It made the pre-flight wait way more enjoyable. I also want to call out how beautiful Les Ba'get's space is. The main reason we come here is for the bone marrow they serve, harder to find around town that is full of flavor like theirs. They serve it in a sizzling pan, so beware! I always drive by this spot and today I decided to order delivery! I'm trying to find a good pho spot and this isn't it. There's just something about it that I can't put my finger on, but I just didn't like it. The portion size for the bowl of pho, however, was huge! I was given like 4 servings of noodles and there was a generous amount of meat on top. Good amount for the price. The banh mi was the star of the show. I got the beef belly banh mi and the bread was glistening, not too crunchy, was chewy, and perfect for me. I wish the beef was more chopped up because it got kind of hard to chew, but was very flavorful. I like how the vegetables were all sliced and cut to the same size so you get a little bit of everything in each bite. Today my daughter got a passion tea. Tea was good and in a sealed boba tea cup. when she got half way through it she noticed a magot in her drink. She panicked. We informed the lady at the front of the issue. We asked for our money back but also advised they should throw out the tea. Good tasting bahn mi, but kinda expensive. I'd personally prefer a traditional $5 bahn mi you can get at other Viet places. I tried both the lemongrass pork baguette and the braised beef belly baguette. The braised beef belly baguette was amazing, the meat was very moist and juicy and drips out of the bottom of the sandwich. The lemongrass pork on the other hand was very dry and somewhat plain. Interestingly, I don't think the baguettes were buttered on the inside (which is what I'd normally expect) which made the lemongrass pork baguette extra dry. I also tried the Vietnamese iced coffee which appeared to be premade since they served it on the spot with a scoop of ice. The taste was fine but one of my main complaints is that my drink was not even close to being filled to the top of the to-go cup. Normally, I'd expect being served a glass with a traditional Vietnamese coffee phin filter on top and then an extra glass with ice to pour the coffee into. Maybe they don't do this because the restaurant is more cafe style. I didn't try anything else on the menu there, so I'd only recommend the braised beef belly baguette out of the two. The service was quick and the vibe of the interior was nice and well decorated, but the menu is quite pricey - $13 for a bahn mi. read more
