This is a pretty solid french meal! We came here for a friend's birthday dinner, and I was surprised that they didn't take hours to give us our next dish! I had œuf meurettes for appetizer. It's some balsamic vinegar based soup with two pieces of bread and two poached eggs with a bed of foie gras. It was salty and vinegary, and I wasn't exactly a fan of the super vinegary part, but besides that, it makes a really good appetizer. I had the duck breast for main dish, and I have to say it was absolutely amazing! Those duck pieces were so tender and marinaded so well! I was actually quite sad when I finished it. The veggies on the side of it was really soft too and seasoned well! I had chocolate mousse for dessert, and it was really smooth and rich! This was our last meal in Paris and a very fitting send off. Because we couldn't decide until the last minute where dinner was, we arrived at the beginning of dinner service sans reservation. It was still pretty quiet so we were immediately seated. The place is quite small -- it could perhaps fit about 20 patrons at a time. It was bathed in red light from a sign. The host was very kind to us and was so incredibly patient explaining everything to us non-French speakers. We ordered a carafe of red wine to share and got a terrific recommendation from him. I ordered the prix fixe menu with the foie gras eggs, the duck and the raspberry tiramisu. My boyfriend got the more expensive prix fixe menu. Unfortunately, we came on a Sunday so several things were not on the menu for the day (markets were closed/didn't deliver on Sundays). The host/server/owner(?) let my boyfriend pick any other main on the menu. He started off with a saucisson appetizer, a salmon main, a cheese course and for dessert he chose the tart of the evening. It was a lovely dinner. It was very reasonable for the quality, taste, ambience and service. Service was beyond friendly -- it was very hospitable. I was very happy with the foie gras eggs which made a fantastic dipping sauce for the bread. The duck was perfectly rendered and tender. The portion was quite decent. I loved my dessert! Raspberry tiramisu seemed like it might be really good or a terrible miss. Let's just say my face lit up with every bite. Our bill came out to about 70 euros or about 78 USD. For a three course dinner for me, a four course dinner for the boyfriend and a carafe of wine, it was totally worth every penny! read more

Les Mauvais Garcons is a solid neighborhood restaurant. Good, traditional French food that won't kill your credit card. I've been here twice, and got the €24 menu each time (they also offer a menu at, I think, €29, with different options for the courses). They have classic dishes like saumon en papillote, boeuf bourguignon, and magret de canard, as well as some specifically Lyonnaise dishes like oeufs en meurette and salade Lyonnaise (and also, confusingly, a "veritable" salade Lyonnaise). The space is lovely and homey with warm light and old-school patterned wallpaper. Our server was very kind and, uniquely, did not do that thing where he automatically switched to English when he heard our American accents. Went twice and liked it both times. Both times I started with the salad lyonnaise, which is lettuce-based and has a fair amount of bacon, croutons and a pretty well-poached egg. I had a chicken poulet the first time--good, but I can't remember much about the details. Second time, I had roasted chicken, which was delish. My friend had the duck magret, which we didn't realize is traditionally prepared rose. That didn't go over quite as well. And then I researched it and found out that these Magret ducks are the poor creatures that are specially raised for foie gras. The clientele is disproportionately gay, but given the name of the restaurant and the location, I thought it would be almost entirely gay. In any case, the maitre d' is very convincing as a bad boy, as he takes his cigarette break outside while sitting on his big bad motorcycle. read more

So nice, we went twice! Not to miss is the quenelle, which comes baked in a lobster bisque. The oeufs meurette is a real winner too - two eggs poached in a rich foie gras sauce and served on toast (it sounds crazy, but yummo!). The staff is really helpful and nice. I had a great meal at Les Mauvais Garçons a few nights ago. I ordered from the prix fixe menu. Started with the salade lyonnaise, which is mixed lettuce with warm lardons, croutons, tomatoes, and a poached egg. It was very good, and what I was expecting. If you've never had a warm salad before, they are different than a cold one. For the main course, I had frog legs. Messy but delicious. Thankfully served with a wet wipe. The frogs legs were fried and topped with a crushed tomato compote. There was a spice I didn't recognize that really pulled the dish together. I had to eat the frog legs with my fingers because they are small, it the sauce was so good I actually licked my fingers. The cheese course wasn't my thing. It was soft cheese served in a glass, mixed with white wine and herbs. I ate about half the serving. It wasn't bad, but also wasn't stellar. I'm more traditional for a cheese course. The dessert was very good. It was a raspberry pie that is hard to describe. The raspberries were puréed, and mixed into a base that was firm and chilled. Wasn't a custard, nor jello, nor jelly. Loved dining here last night! This place is run by a mother son duo and they are both so so sweet! The food was absolutely delicious as well. I started with the camembert salad, had the duck for the entree and the tiramisu for dessert with a pichet of cote de Rhone. Les Mauvais Garcons is a charming French restaurant, which has a fantastic dinner set menu (appetizer, main course and dessert) for 24 euro. My appetizer was the warm camembert salad, which was a decent serving of cheese on top of a bed of lettuce with some tomatoes. My main course was salmon, which had been cooked in foil with butter and dill. The salmon was tender and flavorful and the greens it came with also tasted like butter. Really how can you go wrong with a dish is stuffed with butter? I was stuffed so I just got the fruit salad, but my friend ordered the molten chocolate lava cake. I love the ambiance because it's a small restaurant in the Marais with one server who was actually warm and friendly. While maybe not the very best meal you can get in Paris, I definitely think it's worth the value. read more

You don't have to travel to Lyon for excellent Lyonnaise food - it's right here in the Marais. This is a charming place with superb food and service that made us feel very welcome, as if we were guests in someone's home. Prix fix multi-course menus were generous at 24 or 28 euros. We had the famed Lyon fish in cream sauce (that we craved but had not seen elsewhere in Paris) and the beef bourguignon. Both were delicious and we found ourselves sopping up leftover sauce with the very tasty bread. read more

Best beef tartar in the city. This tiny little restaurant has a wonderful staff and is on a quiet little street off right near Hotel de Ville. We have been here every time that we have visited since we bought our apartment in Place des Vosages and every time I continue to be blown away by the service and every meal. They have an english menu as well for those who do not speak French which is very helpful. I highly suggest Mauvais Garcon for anyone looking for a quaint restaurant that is near popular attractions but off of the beaten path. Looking forward to my next meal here. read more

Excellent characteristic French cuisine, with a serve who speaks good English and makes good recommendations for children and others not used to French food. Great oeufs meurettes; perfectly cooked chicken--I could not have the crayfish sauce due to an allergy, so I was given a delicious mustard sauce (à l'ancienne). Many places have a great salade Lyonnaise; so does Les Mauvais Garçons. Lovely bistro feel in a small restaurant a little off from the hectic Marais. read more

I really liked this place. Not too expensive, a full dinner for around 25 Euros, and the staff was great. They all spoke English when I was there and we're helpful. Charming location off rue de Rivoli. I would recommend it and will dine there again on my next trip to Paris. read more

The food here was fantastic! We wanted to go to a different restaurant, but due to the pouring rain we wanted a place closer to where we were staying. There was an English menu posted online, which made it easy to pre-pick what we wanted to order. We ordered a bunch of things to share, and everything was very good. I recommend the chicken with crawfish sauce, which was very tasty, and came with potatoes au gratin and vegetables. We finished with molten chocolate cake which was also cooked perfectly. The server was very accommodating when we were trying to read the menu in French and didn't seem too annoyed with us "annoying Americans." read more

This was our BEST meal of our visit to Paris. Near Hotel de Ville and the cute apartment we stayed in, Lovely Cosy, the menu caught our attention as we walked by. After taking a look and noticing there was not a crowd (it was early), they were happy to serve us without a reservation. We sat on the outside patio, it was a beautiful night. The gentleman who helped us was super patient and attentive. Everything was perfect. The wine, escargot, steak and mint chocolate mousse I had were to die for, and my husband was equally thrilled with his meal as well. Pricing was very reasonable and service was exceptional. Even if we simply fly into Paris on our way to somewhere else, I hope we can manage a quick trip in to eat here. It was THAT good! read more

Loved the interior of this place and they delivered great solid bistro food! I really loved their steak tartar and would call it my favorite after having it in a few places in France. The prices here are amazing too! We went pretty traditional and had escargots that was great too. A fabulous little French bistro in the heart of the Marais district. We arrived just a few minutes before 7 pm and were warmly greeted and given our choice of tables. Magnificent!!! I came here as soon as I saw the great reviews on Yelp and let me tell you I was not at all disappointed. I ordered duck (for the first time) and wow it was tasty!!! If you enjoy meat and want home made French meals, this is the place for you. They also have non meat dishes. It's a family owned business and everyone is so friendly. This place was recommended to us by our concierge and it was amazing. The food was absolutely delicious, in particular the duck and sausage with mustard. The host by far was possibly the best guy in Paris!! He took his time to explain the menu, recommended some wine with more explanation of its origin and took care of us like we were family! Edit: OMG! My girlfriend woke up sick the next morning after eating food from here. Definitely a tourist trap. I'm pretty sure most of these Yelp reviews are made up. One of the reviews says the escargot here was great, but that escargot tasted like salty cardboard. EVERYTHING here is microwaved and then served. And if it's not microwaved, then it's wrapped in some tin foil and stuck in the oven. A child could make these things - it's as simple as pushing buttons on a machine and that's it! There were only a few people in the restaurant which should have scared us away but we figured that the scaffolding was making less people go there. We went in and regretted it as soon as we got the first dishes. The poached eggs were sour and the onion soup was absolutely terrible. As I said, there were only a few people in the restaurant so it was quiet - we heard microwaves going off in the "kitchen" several times. Finally, to prove that all this garbage is microwaved, it all came out extremely hot - impossibly hot unless it came out of a microwave! The food looks decent but oh my god, it is the worst stuff I've ever eaten in a restaurant. As I said, this place is definitely a tourist trap. All of the reviews online are FAKE - this place is not good! The "good reviews" make the place attractive to tourists, which is why 3 out of 4 parties in there spoke English! Everyone checked out online reviews. Only one French person was there. It's obviously a trap and I really hope they go out of business. They make so much money by selling highly overpriced, microwaved junk! We spent 60 euros here on the daily menus and some escargot. A Michelin rated restaurant in Lyon only charged us 50 euros for much nicer food than this. Finally, the owner didn't even have the decency to heat up the bread in the "kitchen." There's a microwave right at the main counter which heats up the bread right there. Ridiculous! read more
