This is a Christian black owned establishment with the most gorgeous murals and an absolute wonderful vibe. You feel like family walking in. The food was wonderful. I came on the right day. It was immediately after rush and right before close so it was limited on what was left in the menu. I did the salmon and the asparagus, with mashed potatoes. All of which were to die for and the and the salmon was the best I've ever eaten and I love to eat . I will definitely be returning here. My waiter was new and a little nervous but very attentive and the service was perfect She got the tip that she deserved, which was 30%. The bathroom was clean, and tables were clean. I tried the oxtail, Mac n cheese, yams and cabbage. The oxtail was very tender. The flavor was very smoky i assumed it was bbq'd. Which would have been fine with a little gravy (Instead of grease). The Mac n cheese looked decent but it was just an oily disappointment. The yams taste like spice and oil :( the cabbage wasn't cooked enough for me but I understand many people like it crunchy so that's just a personal preference but a little seasoning would've helped. Amazing food! We expected good food because of a family member's recommendation. We didn't get good food, it was GREAT. From the iced tea, to the sweet potatoes, stir fried cabbage, greens, wings, ox tails and lobster we were impressed by every bite. Even the music and murals on the walls were great. Saturday 5/9/26 2pm. Nala greeted us upon arrival and also was our server. She was excellent as a server, friendly, very respectful and constantly checking on us. I really appreciated how the cooks/chefs brought our food out to us individually. Now the food. We ordered oxtails which were very tender and flavorful. Same with the yams, cabbage, Mac and cheese and cornbread. I had the Gumbo which was 10/10 plus. Lots of flavor, shrimp, meat and crabs. We will definitely return. I know this review is calling for me to comment on the ambiance but at the end of the day potential customers want to know if the food was good or not. I ordered the salmon over "mashed potatoes" a side of red beans and rice and mixed vegetables. Where to i start, let me state. The obvious. The chef must have been self proclaimed, my salmon arrived sitting on top of what appeared to be a smashed baked potato. The potatoes were lukewarm warm at best, the red beans and rice were awful!! And the mixed veggies were bland. Now, with that said, i think what happened was the chef/cook put my sides on the plate and had to cook my salmon because the only thing that was hot was the salmon. I really hate to leave this type of review but if you're going to charge what you're charging, you must bring it every time!!! Lastly, the $8 sweet tea w/no refills was sweet enough to give diabetes in one sitting. Until they invest in a real chef i will not be returning, i literally consider that a $48 donation. I came in on my lunch break and waited about 20 minutes just to be seated -- and the restaurant only had about five guests at the time, so that was already concerning. Once seated, things didn't improve. Several items on the menu were unavailable, which limited my options quite a bit. I ended up settling for greens and red beans & rice, and unfortunately, both were very underwhelming. The greens were unseasoned with no real flavor, and the red beans & rice didn't make up for it. Overall, between the wait time, lack of menu availability, and poor food quality, it was just not a good experience -- especially for a quick lunch break. This place is just trying to hide its awful service and mediocre food with nice silverware and "atmosphere". I truly wanted to support this Black-owned restaurant in Compton, especially after loving the vegan spot that was here before. I ordered oxtails with yams and greens. The oxtails were chewy and cold, and the yams were unusually dark, matching the oxtails' color. My mom had turkey wingS, cabbage, and potato salad--she did enjoy the turkey wing. I was hopeful with the gumbo sample, so I ordered some to go. The chef promised crab and shrimp, but at home, it was mostly turkey tails with the feather, some crab and one shrimp... but not as promised. My daughter's to-go salmon with rosemary potatoes was dry and lacked flavor, and the mac and cheese was so hard she wouldn't eat it--she asked me not to return. I spent $160. When I got to my car, I realized my credit card was missing. I went back inside and found the server coming out of the bathroom with the receipt holder containing only my card.
