This would be my second soul food spot i have tried. I fell in love with phillips bbq, but unfortunately, it's a further distance to where i live, so i goggled the nearest soul food from me, and this place came out. Area: located near western and 79th. Was kinda hard to find it at first. Located between a barbershop and hair salon. Parking: Due to being on a main street parking is sometimes hard to find and wouldn't recommend to park in front because its a bus stop. Might get a ticket. Diner: As soon as you enter the place, it is a small location with a food display on the right and board menu with only 2 tables available to sit. Feels very small inside, so I would recommend getting food to go. Service: When we entered, we were greeted nicely and were directed to the menu and on how we order plates. They also informed us on their weekly specials, which is located next to the register. Food: We ended ordering 3 mix plates 2 with ribs, brisket, and mac n cheese with baked beans and one kid plate with fried wings and rice and beans. All came with corn bread. The star of the show was the ribs 8/10 and wings. 10/10. Unfortunately, the brisket was hard to chew. Felt like reheated brisket. The cornbread was the worst cornbread i have ever had. As soon as you touch it, it crumbled in my hand. No flavor at all. The mac n chesse was good 8/10 beans where ok 6/10. Price: prices were decent less pricer than phillips, that's for sure. We ended up paying around 50 in total for everything. The only downfall was that they do not take cash. Good thing i had a card. As i mentioned, this is the second time i try soul food and will not be my last, and i am basing my opinion on the only 2 places I've been. Parking wasn't great as they are located right on the corner of western and 79th I parked behind the restaurant in the lot and choose to walk to the front . Upon walking in , there were more ppl sitting there waiting , more than I personally care to see especially during a panorama. However my order was ready in time so I was able to get I and out ... I ordered the two meat meal with 3 sides. They have a great selection of protein (beef, chicken & sausage) and also offer vegetarian platter. I haven't had BBQ in a while and selected them because it's Black owned and the description of the BBQ sauce as sweet and tangy (so delicious). I was surprised at how tender the beef was it was smoked to perfection, smelled and tasted really good. I loved the Mac n'cheese it had a rich cheddar cheese taste and was baked gooey cheesy perfection! The baked beans were the tight amount of sweet, firm beans and reminded me so much of my grams recipe! I didn't love the garlic mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes they had a interesting aftertaste. The cornbread was fine it was moist but I prefer my grandmas southern style (a little sweet and buttery). I had ordered the key lime pie and was really looking forward to the sweet tangy treat but sadly it didn't get out in the to go bag for delivery. Ah well next time. I made ribs but didn't want to make all the other fixings so I ordered side dishes from here. I would love to say that the service given the circumstances was great. I received a call right away when an item I wanted wasn't available and was provided with my options. I appreciated this so much because ordering delivery always stresses me thinking "what will they get wrong." My delivery driver even had a very positive experience and stated the staff was helpful. Customer service goes a long way for me, because even if a food is good if they can't deliver that experience I refuse to go back. Oh my word. I used to live in Inglewood and looooved getting bbq seafood from this place. I left and now I'm back. I was excited that D's was so close to my home now. I've ordered twice from Ubereats. What happened to the delicious food here? That soft sounding man at the counter is hurting your business. I called three times to ask questions/ make request for the delivery service and he told me he was busy. (Basically, don't call anymore.) My last order was a disappointment and mostly went in the trash. I rarely throw away food. I ordered rib tips and got ribs. (That happened with the previous order was well. I complained, got a price adjustment and ate them. They were good for BAKED ribs. I ordered a side dish meal of 1) baked beans which were too sweet and soggy 2) potato salad which ingredients and seasonings makes it taste store bought 3) the cornbread was dry and crumbled easily 4) the rice tastes like something uncle ben would make but I found it the most edible. I made a meal out of rice and ribs *sigh* I ordered three cookies that were still warm (yay) but were burnt (boo). They we're out of lemon cake. My delivery driver picked carrot cake. The portion was small and I'm pretty sure it came from Costco. They were out of those tasty lemonades. This was a great spot a couple years ago. I really hope they get it together and continue to serve the community. Please make the adjustments your customers are complaining about. I saw them on spectrum tv and was excited to try them out and possibly meet the owners who seem so nice on tv, instead I encountered a rude old man who refused to take my order. They're located on Western Ave there was no parking so I pulled up front and was parked a little in the red which I didn't think was a big deal I'm handicapped and had my plaque in the window. I entered the establishment there was no one inside except an older man at the register. He just looked at me like what am I doing there, I spoke first and said "what's up brother, I saw you guys on tv." He still just looked at me like a was in the wrong place. I informed him that I would like to place an order his reply was "you're parked in the red" my first thought was how'd he even know I was parked in the red and that was my car? I explained to him "thats alright I have my handicapped plaque in the window can I place my order first then I'll move for you" he flat said No and to park in the back and gave some hand gesture waving me away like I was an irritating child. I have Never been to a place where I felt so unwanted. I try to support a local black business and get nothing but disrespect in return. I just left and went somewhere else for lunch. I couldn't believe that he was more focused on the outside public street than serving a first time customer, definitely not what I expected after seeing how nice the husband and wife were on TV. He must be a family member because he hasn't the slightest idea of basic customer service nor respect for the handicapped. It's awesome to come across a company that puts their money where their mouth is when it comes to saying they "support the troops" South LA Veterans are often overlooked & underserved even though LA area has one of the largest Veteran populations in the U.S. Now about the food: The BBQ chicken was made to perfection.
