This was a random find and it was a great one ! The food was so delicious and fresh ! The service was so nice . Definitely a place to try all tables full and worth the wait . The food is made to order to you might have to wait 10-20 min but like I said worth the wait. The best part the Kool-aid flavors OMG!! Can't wait to go back !

My friend and I were looking for some good Southern comfort food and decided to give RJ's Southern Home Cooking a try. Overall, it was a solid experience with a few standout items that will have me thinking about them long after the meal. First, let's talk about the service because it was AMAZING. Our server was kind, patient, attentive, and took the time to give us recommendations from the menu. Great customer service always makes a difference, and they definitely set the tone for a pleasant dining experience. For my meal, I ordered the catfish with mac and cheese, cabbage, and hush puppies. My friend went with the fried chicken, greens, red beans and rice, and cornbread. Now for the food review... The undisputed star of the show was the cabbage. Baby, that cabbage was GOOD! Perfectly seasoned, flavorful, and cooked just right. If you're ordering sides, don't skip it. The catfish was pretty good too. One thing I appreciated was that I didn't have to ask them to "fry it hard"--it came out with a nice texture and flavor right from the kitchen. My friend's fried chicken was tasty, and I especially appreciated the flaky, crispy crust. It had a satisfying crunch without being overly greasy. The mac and cheese, unfortunately, was a little mediocre for me. Not bad, but not particularly memorable. The greens were also just okay, and I could have done without the red beans and rice. One thing that definitely deserves a shoutout: they have bottomless mimosas! That alone makes this a great brunch or weekend spot. As for parking, there is a parking lot, which is always a plus. Just keep in mind that spaces are limited, and the restaurant is a little tucked away "in the cut," so keep your eyes peeled when you're looking for it. Overall, the excellent service, flavorful catfish, crispy chicken, bottomless mimosas, and that unforgettable cabbage made for a worthwhile visit. I'd definitely come back--and yes, I'd order that cabbage again without hesitation!

Back to try some more southern food. So let's see if they're pretty good eh or ew. This time I got their meatloaf, short ribs, and peach cobbler to try. Course gotta get some of my faves too tho like their fluffy crumbly not too sweet cornbread, crispity crunchy hushpuppies, savory crunchy cabbage, cheesy mellow Mac, and sweet soft sugary yams. Tried their waffle fries for the first time and they were well seasoned, crisp, and not bland or dry. The meatloaf was super soft yet firm, savory, umami, bell peppery and smothered in rich gravy. The short ribs were a bit tough but were super meaty and paired well with the homemade perfectly balanced barbecue sauce. The peach cobbler had jarred peaches, mushy pastry, with strong cinnamon and nutmeg flaves. Not really for me. The owners are super nice and even gave me some of their special made beef and salmon jerky to try. They were both super tender, well seasoned, and not chewy or tough. The salmon one was a bit too fishy for me tho. Everyone here is always so nice and food is always quality and fresh. This place is still pretty good. Short ribs $31.99 Meatloaf $18.99 Peach cobbler $4.99

Went to this place after my momma read about it. It did not disappoint!! It is literally a hole in the wall in Downey that feels like you stepped into New Orleanes with the abundance of decorations, although there are very cool wooden maps of Texas and Georgia. There was a musician there jamming out great jazz that really added to the feel. We had southern fried chicken, lemon pepper wings, and brisket. The fried chicken and wings were so f****ing good. The juice that came out of the fresh out the pan chicken was worth the burn. We had Mac n cheese, green beans, waffle fries, and sweet potatoes for the sides. One of the best green beans and potatoes I've ever had!! Honestly. Tender, flavor bomb, and perfectly cooked. The brisket was good too. Only reason they got 4 stars was that we found a hair on the outside of the drink cup and the brisket plate. Yuck. Luckily it wasn't in the food or drink. The biscuit was good, but the corn bread was a lil dry. Lemonade was perfect balance of sweet and tart. Of course we ended with a cheesecake, peach cobbler, and lemonade cake. Yuuuumm. Service was good. Two people covered the entire place and they were on it.

Yesterday i ordered two soul food dinners from RJs. One dinner where pork chops, yams and macaroni and cheese. The other dinner was fried chicken, yams and macaroni and cheese. I called and ordered it about 145 pm they told me it would be ready in about twenty minutes. I arrive there an hour later at 245 p m. When I walked up to the counter One of the servers which was dressed in all black asked me if I was there for a pickup order. I replied yes, she asked me my name( Rob) as she looked at hey bag sitting on the counter and inform me to wait a minute and have a seat. I sat there for 15 minutes when the lady with the jamaican accent which I believe was the same woman that took my order over the phone.Ask me, are you waiting for a pick up?. I replied, yes, she asked me my name, and I told her it was rob, she looked at the same bag that the previous warmen looked at as she replied it's right here". I replied to her" why would she tell me to sit down? And wait if this was my order"? Which she had no answer. And I didn't expect for her to. When I got the food home, the yams look like they come straight out of a can. The chicken tastes like it was unseasoned In the pork chops tasted as if they had been fried. The day before. I was really disappointed because I have been a customer of this place for years. But that was my last time going to this place.

    A lot of good choices

I was craving jambalaya and heard this place has great food. Service was prompt and welcoming. The ambiance tonight happens to be keyboard and saxophone! Just came on a whim and glad we did!

I came here for the first time recently. I am glad I came and saw this unique and wonderful place to be. The staff is very friendly. The atmosphere is very comfortable. They have a huge selection of drinks in a wide variety of colors and flavors that they mix. The fried chicken here was very moist and tender on the inside. I like that, I love when even the white meat is moist. The sides were good, but what stood out the most was the chicken and the drinks, I had the Purple Rain. I parked in between the restaurant and the car wash. They play cool, classic, R&B music that is chill to listen to while dining well. I plan to come back again and give a review update after trying a few other items.

    NOT CANDIED yams and shrimp
    Lonnie D.

The food was dry and under seasoned. Service was spotty despite there being literally only two other customers. Nothing tasted fresh. Like it was warmed. Hotline sandwich was undercooked and shrimp too hard and rubbery. Red Beans and rice was dry and not seasoned at all. I will say the greens were delicious. And my girl enjoyed the Oxtail dinner For $75 I won't return. But I will give it another go if they offer a fresh seasoned meal

Absolutely delicious soul food, and friendly and accomodating staff. I will definitely be revisiting. I had the salmon croquettes, yams, green beans, mac & cheese, fried ocra, cornbread, and banana pudding (+ lasted me 2 more meals at home).

Smothered Pork Chops, Black eyed peas- Collard greens. Yum!

The evening started off strong, as we stopped by during Hoppy Hour (around 9ish). There wasn't a wait, and it wasn't too busy, so we were seated right away. The front staff was nice and polite. She gave us the option of either a tall round table or a shorter rectangular table. We of course, opted for the slightly shorter (height-wise) rectangular table. Once we were seated, we were given the menu, and the waitress told us that we would be right with us. She stopped by to ask about drinks, and we opted for water. She dropped off water and came back with perfect timing because by then we were ready to order. I also love the simplicity of the menu. There really aren't too many options where you feel overwhelmed, but there are still enough choices to pick from. Shout out to the pastrami quesadilla, I didn't realize it had been swapped for a new menu item until I asked about it this time around, but I'll be waiting for its comeback! We ordered a few items: the mac and cheese balls, the Wagyu bone marrow burger with truffle fries, and a double smash burger with ribbed finger potatoes. We had to get the mac and cheese balls since it was Hoppy Hour! I also didn't realize that on Wednesdays, the double smash burgers are half off. I'll definitely remember that for next time. After we ordered, the food came out quicker than I expected. It was a nice surprise. I think the first item came out about 10 minutes after our initial order. The mac and cheese balls came out hot, which was great. The breading made them super crispy and gave a nice crunch that balanced really well with the softer, chewier mac and cheese inside. I was glad the inside wasn't too runny since that would have made it like lava! I didn't see a cheese pull this time, but next time I'll try again to see if I can catch one. It was a great start to the meal. The burgers came out shortly after we finished the mac and cheese balls. I totally forgot that the truffle fries came with sauce. I should have asked for the sauce on the side, but it wasn't a problem that it was added on top of the fries. It just made them get soggy a bit faster, but that's no problem; it just means I've got to work faster! The burger was good and came out super juicy. I asked for it medium, and it looked about medium, so no complaints here! I never realized before, but the bread was so fluffy... it was a super pillowy bun with a nice bounce to it. It definitely helped balance out the meatiness of the patty. The hint of tomato gave it a nice, refreshing bite and really helped cut through the richness of the meat. The onions also added a nice sweetness to the burger, which was appreciated. I also snuck a bite of the ribbed potatoes, and they were good as well. They were a bit crispy on the outside and nice and soft on the inside, with just a touch of saltiness. I also stole a pickle from the double smash and realized I probably should have asked for pickles on my burger, but I'll remember that for my next visit!

3 stars for the food, but only 1 star for the service…read more I came on a Wednesday evening, and there were only a handful of people inside and out on the patio. You'd think with it being so slow, the service would have been attentive... but it wasn't. Our waitress only came to our table to take our order and bring the check. The only other time we saw her was after we flagged down another staff member because our fries were lukewarm. Unfortunately, the replacement fries were also lukewarm, so I'm thinking fries just aren't their specialty. I ordered the Al Pastor fish tacos. They were good, but nothing really stood out or made me want to order them again. I'm willing to give Eureka! another try because everyone has an off day. Hopefully the service is better next time, and I'll update my review if it is.

We got the Mexicali omelette and pancakes to share for two people and we could not finish. The Mexicali omelette had chorizo, garlic, mushroom, red onions, mozzarella cheese, jalapeños, ranchero sauce, and avocado. The ranchero sauce made a huge difference because it felt like we were eating a keto (low carb) wet burrito, using eggs as the tortilla, except it tasted way better than a wet burrito. It was very fluffy and delicious with a nice cheese pull. The omelette was humongous and can feed two hungry people. The pancakes were equally huge and should be shared. Each order came with two pancakes but they were kind enough to let us select two different flavors. We got one matcha pancake and one coffee pancake. Both had matcha/coffee sauce, whipped cream, powdered sugar, and fresh fruits on top. We thought they were yummy but the coffee was our favorite because of the pronounced coffee taste. However, if you love matcha, you would love the matcha pancake too. Highly recommended trying the Mexicali omelette and coffee pancake if you love coffee. They were so amazing. Would definitely come back.

After a while it was noticeable I was irritated and she began to ask from time to time if everything was okay. It wasn't . I was annoyed . She didn't hide the fact that she clearly was giving preference to her friend's table and dismissing everyone else that was seated . Ambience wasn't too chaotic for the time we went . Not sure why it took so long to get our dishes out . Perhaps another time will makeup for our first time here but not sure I will return .

Since it was our first time (thanks to tik tok!), Henry went over the menu and shared his personal favorites as well as the most popular among customers. We then decided to eat the burrito (she had half and I had half) and save the sandwich for dinner later that day. The breakfast burrito was pretty good. I would say 8/10.
