So I'm a spectator, not a player, but I love watching my friends play games at Southwest Indoor!

I really enjoyed visiting the Alief Neighborhood and community center. The inside has two floors:…read moreone floor with many different services for the community and the second floor is the library with a tech center a passport center, and even an indoor gym. The people who work there were super helpful and knowledgeable of all the services that the community center provided. I really like how there are private rooms to co-work in. You just have to reserve them ahead of time online. The indoor gym has a lot of different equipment, even an indoor track with an indoor basketball court. You just need a valid Harris County library card in order to access it. The outside area has some really cool spaces like a playground for children of all ages, skate park, tennis courts, soccer fields, and many more other picnic areas and play area areas. There's even a pool! There is also covered parking on the bottom level of the community center that has EV plugs as well. If you're in the area, I would highly recommend try giving it a try and getting a library card to make use of all of the resources available for free!

For both outdoor and indoor activities, this is an incredible option for folks in the community. The space is substantial with a bevy of options that include a skatepark, swimming pool, tennis courts, an enormous children's playground, and lots of room for folks looking to exercise outdoors. It is a pet friendly area and a perfect destination for families, social gatherings, and even special occasions. Parking is abundant all throughout the property. The neighborhood center includes a gym + fitness center (#1), basketball courts, and indoor walking track. There are venue spaces for both adults and children for up to 25 people at no cost. There is also after school enrichment programs for kids, teens, and additional programs for seniors. There are volunteer opportunities and community development programming throughout the year. Because it's still fairly new, the facilities and everything are in good shape. Time will tell if they will be able to maintain it but for now it serves as an ideal resource for folks looking to get active and be a part of the Alief community. Best of all, it's all free. __________ (#1) Note: there is no shower or sauna.

My 2.5-year old son loves his new school! We just moved to sugar land (Riverstone) and had the…read moredaunting task of having to choose a preschool (daunting because sugar land has so many great options). Despite it being new and unproven, we ultimately went with kiddie academy for a few reasons. First and foremost, the director Sarah is amazing. She has a strong vision for the school and is a perfectionist. So even though this is a franchise of a chain, I really felt like Sarah was going to put her stamp on it - everything from quality teacher recruitment and training to the school's chef/healthy menu to the curriculum adaptations. She has many years of early childhood education experience, great connections, and is ambitious. The leader of a school is paramount (and I found some questionable and disorganized leadership at the other schools I researched and visited). Sarah is sharp, responsive and easy to communicate with. The staff and students love her. The other big reason we went with this school (and believe me we researched about a dozen, from Montessori to Reggio Emilia) is because the facilities are fantastic. Big, beautiful, naturally sunlit classrooms with just enough brand new toys and supplies and books (without feeling cluttered or overwhelming). The outdoor play area is awesome, and they have future plans for a splash pad and soccer field. There's also enough room indoors for physical play when it's too hot or rainy to go outside. And the security system is top notch. I love the flexibility that this school gives parents - they offer infant education through pre-K (so our soon to be born daughter can join her big bro at the same school). Their extended hours are the default (6:30-6:30) though you can opt for fewer than 5 days/week if you prefer. They take very few holidays - which is key for working parents. And they use the latest technology (apps and live streaming TV) to keep parents in the know all day/week long. I love being able to see how my son is behaving, adjusting, eating, napping, playing, etc. The only big question mark I had was about really small classrooms (since the school is still new, opened early 2018) and an undeveloped community of parents, teachers, etc. I think that still remains to be seen, but my very social son has been very happy in his first week there. And I've loved my conversations with the teachers. They are warm, helpful and supportive. When I picked my son up yesterday he didn't want to leave. Excited to help this school develop and establish a strong presence in the sugar land area. Message me if you want to know more.
