Shopped for an eBike for 2 days during Black Friday weekend, went to multiple stores where the wife found one she loved and I found one that looked cool but not much else, and had almost immediate buyers remorse cause the sales associates at bling bike were awful and I just didn't want fomo of not having a bike after my wife found one somewhere else. Not satisfied with my decision and planning to return the bike I bought less than 12 hours later...I decided to hit Charlie's which was one of the few in the area I hadn't tried yet, specifically because of the poor reviews here. I had a 10/10 experience, especially by comparison here. Charlie (not the owner, I asked) was friendly, approached us within a few minutes of us arriving, was knowledgeable and answered any and all questions and was very patient with us and our ignorance. Picked up a bike that he seemed to know a lot about, and when I did my own research before buying he was spot on with all of the information. I was glad to give him my business, and I hope that if I experience any service needs in the future for my bike that they will exhibit the level of service I was provided today. We thought it would be a very good company to do business with so I have to wait about several bags and then we went to go back to have some things to fix on the bikes we decided to tell them no thanks and go elsewhere cause they were trying to upsell us more than what the price was for the one closest to where I live they told us there's no way that could be that price they upsell you like 3 to 4 times with the price will be to do a service. These guys are amazing. Brought my son's rad runner bike in (which they don't even sell) because his brakes were out. Normally you would get a "hey make an appointment for next week." Not these guys. They literally drop what they were doing to help adjust the brakes, then saw that the pads were worn told us to hang tight while they fixed them. I'm not the kind of person who expects this kind of treatment but when you get it, it really makes you think that they care about customers. Not to mention, they have an awesome fleet of bikes to sell. If I didn't already have three electric bikes, I would be buying one from these guys because customer service is the bike you buy. read more

I have to agree with the rest of the one-star reviews regarding service. It appears that the bike "mechanics" there are as incompetent as they come. I brought my Tern HSD in to have the gear hub replaced; a repair that has taken less than two weeks in the past. I took my bike in on May 15 and finally got it back on August 7th; almost three months. It took them three weeks just to figure out what mounting hardware was required to do the repair, and then another three weeks to figure out that it needed a firmware update. To top it off, the let me roll out of the repair bay with two grossly under-inflated tires (one at 22 psi and one at 18 psi for 40 psi tires), knowing that I was going to ride it 25 miles back home. I worked at a bike shop in my teens, and I know that no self-respecting bike shop will let you leave the shop without checking the tire pressure first. These guys are lazy, stupid and untrustworthy. read more

DO NOT RENT BIKES FROM HERE!!! we rented 6 electric bikes from Charlie's and dealt with the manager Jake. In the middle of the ride a chain snapped in half. We called Jake and told him what happened and he was not helpful at all. Basically told us to uber with the bike back to shop which wasn't an option. We were stranded by Torrey pines state park and had to walk the bike back up the hill and took hrs to get the bike to a safe place. One of us had to uber back to the shop and it ruined the day for everyone. Jake's response back at the shop was this stuff happens, and has even happened to him while riding as a customer at another spot and didn't care at all. All he had to do was provide a full refund to make the situation right and he REFUSED to do it. Basically saying now he head to stay late and go get the bike, like it was our fault. Miserable customer service and will never be back. Would highly recommend going elsewhere to buy or rent a bike as these guys don't care at all. I hope the owner of the shop reads this as Jake should be fired for that customer service. read more

The team at Charlies is amazing. Brian the manager knows his stuff but is not pushy at all. He was great to work with. The free tune ups was a selling point for us. We bought two bikes from them in August of 2020 and have taken them in twice now for tune ups. The service department has also been amazing and always finishes our bikes before I requested. I had a broken spoke on my Navigator, and needed it done by Wednesday, because we were leaving for a trip and wanted to take our bikes. They got it done on Tuesday. So Rad!!! I searched for 8 months for the right bikes for us. Their selection was great, their prices were competitive, the financing option was beneficial. I highly recommend these guys. read more

To say that I'm disappointed would be an understatement. This bike shop's repair department is a Joke. Please beware of hidden charges and misinformation with EBIKE repairs. I copied this from another post because it took the words from my mouth. I bought 2 bikes, having my fourth problem in 6 months, they never have time to look at it same day. I brought it back when they asked and they still couldn't look at it. It safe to say they really don't have a service department, only bike assemblers and service work comes after all new bikes are assembled. After being told the items were under warranty and leaving the bike all day, I was charged for defective parts and the labor to install them. Still waiting on the part for the original repair for over a month, when that's complete I will find another shop to take my business too. Employees have been friendly, the shop just doesn't understand what service means. Update, the second group of spokes that was needed had to be ordered. I was told 3 weeks to get them and I would be called on arrival. I contacted Magnum myself and ordered them, took 3/4 days. After I received the spokes I installed them myself. Still no call from the shop telling me the specially ordered spokes were received. I am selling the bike now because I cant afford the repairs (should have been covered under warranty) and the total lack of customer service and follow up. read more

I bought a Magnum E Bike from these guys in May of 2020......they told me to bring it in 3 times a year for service.....Free lifetime service. I brought it in Aug. 17, 2020. I have 967 miles on the bike. Right before I brought it in 2 spokes on the rear hub broke . I do ONLY street riding a 99% of the on the San Luis Rey bike trail in Oceanside . They won't cover the spokes under warranty stating that its common for ebike to break spokes on the rear due to the torque feom the electric motor....i think thats bullshit ! They should be pairing spokes with the motor or make one piece rear wheels...... Saleman who sold the bike indicates that I'd never have that problem with this bike....repair guys say it happens to all of them..... R. These guys were not at all helpful when I was looking for a magnum throttle. My wife and I were in Colorado for the summer and both the throttles broke on our Magnums. I phoned several Colorado dealers looking for the part. All were very helpful. One even called his distributor to see if he could get one. Electric bike central in San Diego where I bought the bikes did not have it, but suggested I call Charlie's. The guy at Charlie's would not even tell me if he had a throttle unless I was willing to come to the store and pick it up. "Not in their business plan to ship parts". I notice their web site says they ship bikes anywhere. Buyer beware, they won't ship parts. I'd never buy a bike from them. read more

Excellent location! We called ahead and made reservations. The bikes weren't ready when we arrived....only took about 10-15 minutes before they were ready so not a huge deal. Bike helmets were a little more problematic. We had 2 riders. 1 helmet fit one of us - the rest were huge & we asked for another one that would fit correctly but were told the ones in the box were all they had. The helmet was huge and super uncomfortable so not a great situation. The lady did our paperwork and sent us on our way. She said we had 40 minutes until they were due back. We paid for an hour but I guess since the bikes weren't ready....our time was eaten into. Suggestion for future use - get there like 20-30 minutes early so you can use the full hour you pay for. They tried to sell me a $7000 bike and I was all set to pull the trigger but then I noticed that the frame was all scratched up on the bottom. The guy told me it was because their bikes sit outside, but there is no way that happened from just sitting out. Then he told me that's why they discount all their bikes. I hate spending a lot of money and then getting ripped off some more. Make a long story short: Bought and electric bike at Charlie's. Payed through the nose because, you know, Encinitas. Took the bike home with 2 (two) keys. Got home. Teenager 1 lost her key. Teenager 2 had her key. Unfortunately, teenager's 2 key didn't start the bike. Went back to Charlie's. Me: "Hey, this key you sold us the bike with doesn't actually start the bike, you must've given us the wrong key". Staff: "Too bad, sorry, our mistake" Me: "Can you please give us the right key?" Staff looks for key. Also staff: "No, sorry, can't find it. Me: "Now what?". Staff: "We replace the barrel and you'll leave here with two keys". Me: "Great!". Staff: "...yeah, that's gonna cost ya..." Me: "wait, what?!" Staff: "Yeah, sorry, our mistake but, you know, have to charge you for the new barrel" Me: "So you gave us the wrong key and now you have to charge us to change the barrel so we can have a key that works?!" Staff: "Yep" Never going back. Save yourself some money and go somewhere else where money grubbing bastards don't rob you. read more

The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. I received great service both times I visited. They were obviously busy but I had two nice gentleman that took time to show me bikes and explain the differences. I am giving 2 stars because we rented two e bikes and there was absolutely no sanitation process for the bikes or helmets. A gentleman returned his bike as I was standing there and they gave me his bike to rent. They did not wipe down the bike at all. We also used their helmets which were in a large bucket and hadn't been cleaned either. They had no protocol what so ever as far a sanitizing equipment after being rented. All the staff were wearing face masks, but no other precautions were taken. I can't recommend this place because of their lack of COVID 19 precautions. read more

However, shortly after I started having problems with the bike's battery (less than a month after the initial purchase). I brought it in to be fixed; literally the next day the problem was back after I paid for it to be repaired. To say that I'm disappointed would be an understatement. I spent $2,500 on a brand new Magnum electric bike. The sales staff said they could fit in my car so I could drive home, they weren't able to so without me even having to ask the manager did step, up which was super awesome of him, and delivered it to my house at the end of that day. Great customer service to make a sale. So why am I disappointed? #1. The bike that I thought I bought was not what was delivered to my house. I immediately noticed that they had changed out the seat. I liked the one that I had ridden at the store, not the one that arrived at my house. #2. When I bought the bike they did their 1 and 1/2 hour check out with their mechanic right then on the spot "to make sure that the bike was working properly" they said. I rode it for two days and for the entire two days the power would surge even though I was peddling consistently and did not touch the brakes. This was not only uncomfortable but it created a dangerous situation for me when I was going up a hill. Ugh. #3. When I bought the bike and asked about the written manual for me to read all about the electronics and learn how to operate it the assistant the sales person told me that they don't have a written manual for me and that I would just have to basically hop on and figure it out. This is the reason why I rode it for two full days uncomfortably because I didn't have any reference to read through to know whether I was operating it correctly or not. Just a side item to know because it was an inconvenience. How do you sell something for thousands of dollars that doesn't come with a written manual? #4. So here's the reason why I'm motivated to hop online and write this review. It seems their mechanic is only available to check out bikes when they make a sale. In the same breath that the manager over the phone explain to me that I'm in the best of hands because I purchase my bike from them he also told me that he has a dozen other customers that want the same thing I do, the attention of the mechanic, and even though I'm able to borrow a car today to get it down to them 30 minutes before they close they refused to diagnose it and fix it for me so I can drive away with the borrowed car on the same day. I would have to leave it there with them and then borrow a car again to come back some other day.... In conclusion, I spent $2,500 expecting a convenient experience. To drive away with a working bicycle. I should have just bought one on Craigslist. On a side note the manager did offer to swing by my house to diagnose the bike but he said it would be sometime over the next seven days between the hours of 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and he said it would just be a diagnosis so we would still have to get it to the shop to have them fix it. This review is long overdue, but now that I am done with Charlie's and will not be going back for anything , here it is. We bought 2 bikes 2 1/2 years ago, I asked the kid (because that is basically what works there) is this bike big enough for my husband standing there at 290 lbs, he assured us it was. The spokes started breaking within a month (they are not covered under the warranty) and the service dept tried to say he was going over bumps too fast, which he was not. So we researched it, only to find out the bike was only made for up to a 265 lb weight limit. Talk to Brian the manager, he was not aware of that weight limit, but took no responsibility for the bike being sold to us. After MUCH debate cause he saw no reason to take the bike back, we upgraded to a bigger and more expensive bike, and he charged us $200 for use of the first bike that should have never been sold to us in the first place. Believe me it's like beating your head against the wall, trying to make them understand the concept of good customer service. The service department is terrible too! Their way of fixing something is to replace parts, till they find the cause of the problem! They charge you and when the problem continues then they'll tell you need to replace something else, it's a joke! So if this saves one person from dealing with all the frustration we have encountered, then this long review was worth every word! read more

Very disappointing experience. We went to several bike shops looking to compare and purchase 2 electric bikes (approx $6,000++ for 2). We had done our research and knew what we were looking for. At Charlie's Electric Bikes....no one spoke to us for the first 10m we were there even though several employees walked by without making eye contact or saying hello. Finally a nice kid named Tommy asked if we needed help! He was fairly knowledgeable and at least made a good effort to answer our questions and show us what we were interested in seeing. They have good inventory however I would NOT buy from them because of their poor attitude and unfriendly service (except Tommy). I realize electric bikes are in high demand and are the current rage however if they treat a new potential customer like they treated us, how will they treat us when we return for repair, etc. Being in sales, I was embarrassed & sad for them as sales people. read more

We had nothing but issues with the 5 bikes we rented. Within the 2 miles we were able to cover, we had to return because of a faulty battery and then 3 flat tires. After waiting an hour roadside for them to pick up the bikes, they had the gall to expect us to Uber back (not a good ask during Covid) and still charged for us for an hour even though we never had an hour of uninterrupted bike time. I recently went to Charlies to look for a bike for my daughter. She is going to college soon and I wanted to get her setup on something that would last her awhile. Jake was very kind and greeted us upon arrival. He helped us work out what model was the best for my daughter and at a price point that was right in my budget. After some time he offered to take us on a test ride and after that it was obvious which bike would be perfect. It was the exact bike Jake was recommending us the whole time! We ended up leaving very fulfilled and excited on the new purchase. Charlies feels like home now and I can't wait to be back for my 3 free tune ups. Props to Jake and the entire team at Charlies.
