If I could rate this place with a negative number, I would. The customer service here is horrendous. The mechanics show zero empathy towards customers. I've had three flat tires within two weeks, and the job wasn't done correctly the first time. My tire keeps leaking, and I've been charged for every visit. Avoid this place at all costs! So this happened... My bike was stolen from my car, and two weeks later it was miraculously recovered. Almost in the same spot it was stolen....They destroyed the bike, it needed almost everything. I took it to the shop I purchased it at, and the cost for new parts ended up being more than the bike cost. Long story short, I was referred to Leucadia Cyclery, in Encinitas. They told me they couldn't make any promises,and they would call when they knew more. Erick also told me it would take a few weeks to finish. About 48 hrs later I received a phone call from Erick and he told me my bike was finished, and that I could come get it!(@9:40pm)... needless to say I was elated and extremely surprised. When I got to the shop, my expectations were again beyond exceeded. Erick and Jacob replaced all my parts with upgraded, mostly DONATED parts! My bike is better than before it was stolen! Not to mention they put my bike ahead of many bikes... Im simply amazed by the generosity. Thank you so much to Erick and Jacob for going above and beyond! of And to Richard @ Bicycle Warehouse for donating a Wheelset (much better than my original) and for making ALL of this happen. Was going crazy trying to find a certain E-Bike helmet I needed for work. All places where sold out or it was a special order that would take 2-3 weeks. I didn't have that time, I called several places till I found this place. Spoke to Rob who didnt think he had the helmet, but went and looked around the store till he found it. This place is run by a complete scammer! Do not bring your bike here! You have been warned. They will happily check your bike in then make up random charges and hold your bike hostage. I dropped my bike off for a flat tire, ( just the tube). The owner tells me the tube is 10 bucks but will be about 25 bucks to put it on. I said ok. Note, It's a regular mountain bike that has kit on it and the tire is was the front tire so no extra work, it's not like some crazy ebike where it required any more work to change a flat tire. I come over the next day to pick it up. Im told that will be $45.50..... I asked why? Well thats because your bike is an ebike, there is an extra charge for that. And.... you have a surfboard rack on it. There is a $20 charge for that.... This is how this place operates. So your total for your flat tire will be $45.50 I refused. Cops came. They finally released my bike for $35. You have been warned. If you have to get your bike fixed here get the quote in writing, that was the recommendation of the police once they arrived. But honestly who expects to pay close to $50 for fixing a flat tire.... Upon leaving I heard the guy say to the cop "this happens all the time." If people come in and leave your shop furious and it's an all the time thing maybe that's something you want to take a look at. Maybe you want to not rip people off for the small stuff and people might actually come back for a bike purchase or more expensive work. This was like a how to class on how not to run your business. I just learned my lesson never to take my bike here ever again. You all have been warned. read more

The last two times we have taken in our mountain bikes we have been charged for a service we didn't ask for and have been charged for service's that should of been included in the basic tune up. The guy up front has no idea what he is talking about and seems to make stuff up as he goes along. For years my biking friends have said only use this bike shop for services but I am finding as of late their service quality has greatly diminished. It's great that cycling is really big out in San Diego because there are little bike shops such as Leucadia Cyclery peppered all around the county. There to service your every need when it comes to tuning up your bike, purchase parts and even save your butt if you ever run into issues while out on the road. Unfortunately today, Leucadia Cyclery did the later for me. I set out for a long ride this morning along the coast and was feeling really strong considering I haven't been on the bike much after my back injury in January. I pushed myself hard and really felt like I might be able to do a 50 miler today. 35 miles into my ride....my hopes were deflated, in more ways then one. BOTH of my tires were flat and there were little stickers all over them. darn it! I pulled off the side of the road and took inventory of what I had in my little pouch under my seat; 2 tubes and 2 Co2 cartridges. Yikes! I couldn't afford to make a mistake. It's been awhile since I've changed a tire so I wasn't as confident in my tire changing skills. Sure enough, the tubes were swapped out successfully but I got a little trigger happy with the Co2 and wasted an entire cartridge. = ( I filled up the other tire with the remaining Co2 and knew Leucadia Cyclery was about about a mile away so I set out on foot. I finally arrived and the owner Fred was on hand to lend me his hand pump. In a few minutes, I was pumped and ready to hit the road again. It set me back about 40 minutes but I would've been SOL if Fred wasn't there to save me. We've also used Fred numerous times in getting our bikes serviced and picking up the usual gear from time to time. He's always a pleasure to work with and there to assist you with your every need. After not receiving any call backs or appt time within reason from mobile service companies: made a quick phone call to leucadia cyclery as I am in the aviara area. To my surprise Brian (from Cape town SA) picked up the phone and after a brief chinwag I was in the car and at LC within 10mins. Most other shops were quoting excessive turnaround during covid. Brian quickly had a look, diagnosed the problem and sorted me out while I waited in the shop. The service was impeccable and the pricing incredibly fair. They have no business being a vine shop. I got my Bach tire fixed , and less than a mile later, same tire popped. Called and they said it must ha e been a thorn, but I'll call BS. These guys did a fantastic job tuning-up my two bikes. In particular, Erik is the gentlemen who worked on them and did a great job: my gears now shift perfectly well, he replaced a wheel with broken spokes, etc. Erik is also extremely insightful and friendly when it comes to providing advice about fixing, selling, or buying bikes. If there is one thing that could be done better, is that the price could have been 10-20% lower, I think. Nonetheless I give a 5-star rating for the technical service provided. read more

If you love your bike, don't bring it here for repairs. They did a hydraulic brake bleed for me and in the process wrecked my brake pads and rotors by getting oil on the rotors. I had to buy new brake pads for both front and back ($90) as well as clean my rotors with rubbing alcohol. The other crazy thing is that during the repair they lost my seat bag that was attached to my bike! Their work area is super messy so I can see how it may have gotten lost in the pile. So now along with the $90 I had to spend on new brake pads I have to buy a new $30 seat bag. I don't expect they stole the bag on purpose as they seem like nice people. I wanted to support the local little guys but they really screwed up! read more

I visited this shop while on a bike ride with my friend. We were riding all over encinitas and leucadia and throughout the whole ride her seat kept coming unadjusted and moving around. So... being from leucadia and wanting to support my local leucadia businesses, I suggested we stop at the bike shop and see what they could do for us. we parked our bikes outside and went in, and no one greeted us! the guys were just standing around talking to one customer (who looked like he may have been buying a bike) and finally my friend approached them. she explained that she was having issues with her seat and was wondering if he could take a look. he basically told her that it needed to be tightened or a special tool should be purchased for it, didn't offer to look at her bike, didn't even offer to help fix it for us! i couldn't believe how rude they were! i thought everyone in leucadia was friendly and laidback (especially the businesses!), but apparently i was wrong. I looked up their website and all of the bikes they sell are high end, it seems to me that unless you are willing to spend over $1000 in their shop they're not willing to give you the time of day... well, guess what? i wouldn't spend $1 there! especially when the Encinitas Bicycle Retailer is less than a mile away and know how to treat customers. My experience was great. Went in needing a very specific, not so common (as a loose item) part. Asked, was promptly helped and paid a reasonable price. Sweet. They have some very high end stuff in there, as well as everything you need. It's not as neat and tidy as B&L or Nytro, but it definitely has a small bike shop charm that's really cool. I can't comment on the other two reviews, but I guess the thing to realize is that higher-end bike stores tend to have a subtle protocol. If you don't know what you're talking about, you're probably destined to leave disenchanted. Sometimes this even extends to looking the part. I'm sure they get a lot of johnny-come-lately fixie hipsters thinking they know everything, etc. so that would probably get annoying. Anyhow, I'll definitely go back. read more

My husband and I ride our bikes all around San Diego. We have tried almost every bike shop for something. Erik was working here and was excellent. He was knowledgeable , friendly and efficient. I had just purchased a new frame and needed to have my parts switched from my other bike. Erik said Rocky was an excellent mechanic and would do it for $150. More than the shop I usually go to but he said he was worth it. We brought our parts and the frame in. Rocky took off the parts and put in a box. It should only take a few days. After the second week, we called to check on the bike and were told that Rocky decided to go on vacation (no prior notice) and nobody else could finish the bike. He was due back at the end of the week. Called the next week - he decided he needed a longer vacation. Still nobody else could put my bike together. Called again and talked to Brian (the owner) who told me he would make sure Rocky would get to it the next day. Called back the next week - I am upset now and wanted to know when my bike would be done. Rocky had misplaced some parts. It was supposed to be done at the end of the week. Mid week my husband gets a call. They can't find our wheels (in the wheel bag that we brought). Brian calls the next day and wants to know where the tires are... Wherever Rocky put them. Went to pick up bike and tried not to talk because I was so angry that it took almost a month. I was charged $175! I was also given "extra parts" ?? My bike had tires that were not the ones that I came in with in addition to being put on backwards (tread going wrong direction). Thought I would consider it a learning experience to NEVER go to this shop again. Two months down the road and my bike is ticking. Take it to Revolution (BEST bike shop by the way) and find that the wrong Campi crank bearings were installed. I looked at my "extra parts" and the correct bearings were not installed but given to me as extra parts. Now my bike has to be repaired because he did not put in the correct parts that were not only paid for but he had them! I WOULD NOT GO TO THIS SHOP FOR ANYTHING!! read more

I moved to Leucadia 2 months ago and just now picked up a bicycle---probably a record for longest living person here without one! On a whim, I bought a used vintage Schwinn cruiser, knowing it needed work. I took it to Leucadia Cyclery on a Thursday afternoon needing full attention- tubes, lube, gear shifters, and height adjustments with the seat and bars. They usually work with distance bikes and serious heavy riders, so I was stoked to see the guy's energy when I asked to have an old cruiser looked at. Within a couple hours they had it done and dialed, and I couldn't be happier. A beach cruiser that was posed as being too small for my tall frame now fits me beautifully, and I have ridden it from Leucadia to Cardiff and back many a times. I'm not a bicycle guru, so I don't know how the price compares, but this is my go-to place for questions and repairs from here on out. read more
