From my initial consultation to the end result of a color change with highlights and cut, I instantly became an ardent fan of Rosa at Level 5 Salon. You know you've found a great hair designer when you get many positive comments & compliments on "your new look". I found a gem in Rosa, the owner. She is all about customer service & satisfaction and it's evident from the first moment you meet her. Camouflaging my white hair root growth on my dark brunette hair has become increasing more difficult to accomplish on my own -- Rosa to the rescue! This review is for John Yates who not only was an excellent stylist, he was professional, meticulous and friendly. I found Level 5 on Yelp and John was available for a last minute appointment. He worked on my wavy & dried up hair, and he transformed it so beautifully. Got my keratin treatment and basic cut for $225 which was a really good deal since he really took time to fix my previous sloppy cut (never going back there again, it's somewhere in Fremont) and treated it with keratin. I've had keratin treatments before but I noticed John was really patient with how he did my hair and was very careful in putting the keratin on. I remembered my eyes were burning almost the entire time I got my hair done when I had my last treatment. And my hair is so nice and smooth now, and the cut is very flattering. Thanks John! And he gave great tips and suggestions on how to take care of it so the keratin treatment would last longer. read more

Let me start by say i dont believe the statement " I am not my hair" ... I am my hair. I love my hair. They way my hair looks cant determine what kind of day I'm going to have. With that said you can imagine how careful and cautions i am with who i let touch my precious locks :) Sue was a client of my mothers so i was a little unsure as to what i was getting myself into. I was fearful i was going to let someone color my hair simply because they were a client of my mothers. When i sat down and began to tell Sue what i wished my hair to look like she seemed really quick to tell me ok what ever i want "its all good' she said to me... And it was! I wasn't sold until the blow dryer hit my head. But once she blew me out I was in love!!! she took my from medium brown to golden brown with a ton of blond. She's fun to talk to, but more importantly understands my white-girl afro like no person on this planet. She cuts it dry and I have never been disappointed. In fact, I was in a deep dark depression when her studio in Montclair closed. I vowed never to cut my hair again (am I getting carried away?) but through the wonders of the internet, she was able to find me! The sun shone on my world once again. If you need any more convincing...parking is easy, the studio is very cute, and the sell Davines products, and Italian line that is wonderful. So go, be brave curly-headed girl. I was recommended by a good friend to visit Rosa at Level 5. I had yet to find a hairdresser that I loved but the search is over! I have been to see her twice and both times she has done a great job. Rosa is super nice, easy to talk to, and so efficient. I get really impatient at the salon but she is quick and does a great job. However, it does not feel like she's in a rush either, which can be typical at some salons where they are booking one appointment on top of the other. The salon is easy to get to as it's right off the 580. On top of everything her prices are completely reasonable, epecially for being the owner of the salon. I've had my share of haircuts in the city where I want to vomit when I hear how much the mediocre experience has cost me. :/ Anyway, if you want a great haircut from a lovely hairdresser...go visit Rosa. After procrastinating for far too long, it was time for a change. Thinking I'd have to find a place in SF or Berkeley, I was very pleased to discover that there was a nice salon in San Leandro, not too far from my house. I read through the reviews to find a stylist who was good about suggestions based on hair type, face shape, etc. (since I wasn't quite sure what I wanted) and made an appointment with Roza. From the decor to the music, the salon itself was very inviting. And Roza was friendly and super helpful, listening to what I thought and giving recommendations. She told me I could rock bangs and, thank god, she was right. The next day at my birthday party, everyone kept telling me how great my haircut was, how I looked hipper and more importantly, younger. A nice thing to hear when working through your 30s! Since the location is good and the prices are quite reasonable, I'll definitely be back. And I don't think I'll let so much time go between cuts again. read more

I finally found the perfect hairstylist! After years of searching for someone who could cut my long hair the way I wanted, I am thrilled to have found Rosa at Level 5 Salon. I no longer wanted to drive into the city and pay outrageous prices for a haircut, so it's great to find a trendy salon so close to home! Rosa is so pleasant and listens to your needs. This is the third cut from her and I am even more pleased each time. The first cut was to fix a bad cut from another stylist who is no longer at the salon. She did it for free and made it look a hundred times better. This last time, I brought her a celebrity photo of what I wanted and she made my hair look even better than the picture! Rosa is very friendly and has a good eye for colour. I was at the Castro Valley Mother's Club Pamper night, and decided to try for the $10 feather extension. $25 for 3. I opted for the $10 b/c this was my first time. I am Asian with long black hair, and I've always thought a pink strand would be cute. But Rosa suggested a dark red with black and she was right. It was muted and subtle. I placed the pinks by my temple, and it just looked ridiculous. I am happy with my feather, but really, I should have spring for 3 because my long hair is masking it. I'm really thinking about going back to get two more to go with my one single feather. Rosa was very friendly. The feather extension looks cute and quiet, and I like the fact that it's not a bleached and dyed section of hair. If I want it off, it's easy to go back to remove the clip or just cut it off. I am on of those people that put off getting hair cuts for as long as possible because I have had so many bad experiences. I am so happy I found Roza! I called in last minute , told her I wanted to shave the side of my head, and she said to come on in. When I got there she was super sweet and just as excited as I was for my dramatic hair cut. She took the time to really make sure she was doing exactly what I wanted, had me look up pictures to show her, and even looked some up herself! When it came down to the shaving she really took her time to make sure it was lined up excatly where I wanted it. She also did a beautiful job trimming, layering, and adding long blanded bangs to the rest of my long fine hair which I can be very picky about. This was my first haircut in San Leandro, and I can now say I have found my ideal hair stylist in Suzette McD.! She has such a great personality and did a fabulous job with my unruly curly hair. My hair was somewhat two-toned strawberry and strawberry-blonde and she helped me to lessen the two-tone effect, while still keeping my natural color. She definitely has a knack for cutting curly hair and I highly recommend her to anyone who is tired of getting their hair cut by people who don't know anything about curls. This is a fun salon! I have gotten my haircut and magenta highlights many years now from Rosa Fung. She has done a great job cutting my naturally curly hair as I know not everyone can cut curly hair well. I love to buy the purses, bags and jewelry too. Good neighborhood vibe here.
