I've been seeing Johanna for over 3 years and she is very skillful in what she does. I've had several estheticians perform lash lifts and they simply cannot get it correct. It's always crimped and/or some missing lashes that doesn't get lifted. Review is for the cupping/massage service I received at DeVone Beauty. I came across this business by (of course) Yelping: acupuncture/cupping treatments and read they offered cupping for stress, pain relief and AS a beauty treatment. Hey, I'm all in! I'm always about trying new things for self care and feeling better What is cupping? WebMd: "Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. People get it for many purposes, including pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage." This is something my maternal grandfather used to do for aching muscles, tummy issues, headaches using the old-school method of lighting a flame in a glass jar and placing it on the effected area (creating a suction to remove toxins). I've also had it done at my acupuncturist in Downtown Hayward so this is not something new to me. The owner, Johanna is very responsive, friendly, helpful answering questions and offered a free 15min session to try her SmartCupping service. She worked on one side of my neck and shoulders and it was a little intense as it's a 2-step process. First, she uses a suctioning device across the area, to get circulation going and then uses the actual cups alternating along your spine, neck, shoulder. Needless to say, I booked an hour session the next week even though I wanted her to continue the OTHER side of my neck and shoulder that day! During the session Johanna checks your comfort level the whole time while giving you a scalp, arm, hand massage. Awww bliss! I felt a little tired after (relaxed state) then soon after I got a boost of energy as everything feels loose! 1 hour session will run you about $120 (yikes! YAY for FSA) but if you get a package its cheaper.... she mentioned she treats a lot of firefighters (hello!) due to aching muscles so can see the treatment being beneficial. Note: Not for someone with a low threshold for pain/pressure. You will bruise (normal) which will go away within 5 days...so if you're getting a facial with SmartCupping be warned....though I'm curious and have yet to try this! :) Located on the corner of Dutton and Bancroft next to the pizza place. Came in for a therma lift with cupping facial and wow it made a difference in my jawline and cheek bones (My jaw muscles are usually feeling tight and tense so it was like a massage to relax it as well)! I love how Joanna worked one side of my face and had me look into a mirror to compare the other half of my face and literally was lifted in minutes! Didn't know what else to expect but she gave me a full on treatment and I felt super pampered. My appointment with Johanna was wonderful. She took her time to trim my nails and cuticles. She noticed my cuticles were very dry and thick and I told her it's from the side effects of chemo. It was nice to know all of her nail polishes are either from Japan or Korea as they don't have hash chemicals in them. I had both the deep cleansing facial here and the gel nails. Both exceeded my expectations. I've been struggling with biting my nails for years. The gel nail tips seem to hold up well enough that I don't bite them. The place is clean and pleasantly calming with nice artwork and good color choices. My cuticles had a lot of damage. I was shocked at how much better my hands looked. For the facial the massage was very relaxing and seemed to help my skin. The machines used seemed less damaging then traditional methods. This place is right next to my house and is convenient. However her price has doubled in the past year. Manicure with get removal is now $50. Online stated, $35, she charged me $10 to remove my get nail polish. She stated she usually charges, $25 to remove . That is the cost of a gel manicure and pedicure with massage at another salon..
