LA Concrete Works - Clean, stain, & seal in Venice

    LA Concrete Works

My contractor subcontracted a micro cement install and the people he hired did not do a good job…read more They left the job with uneven spots, micro cement all over my walls, and the sealer had already yellowed and was showing through. The situation was disappointing and frustrating to say the least, so I took matters into my own hands and called LA Concrete Works to see if they can fix the job for me. After reviewing the job and settling on a final start date, I could already see that this team was exceptional at what they do. Joe was communicative, ready to answer any question, and very lovely to work with - he is very detailed and came to visit the site often despite their busy schedule. Sydney at the main office was so understanding and a rockstar at keeping me up to date on the plan of action. Luis, Jose, and the install team were courteous, neat, and most of all extremely competent - they know what they are doing and they do it really well. In the end, I got the exact floor I wanted and was able to work with a team who listened to my needs and made sure I was happy with the work. LA Concrete Works is who you call when you want the job done professionally and with the upmost care.

The first person I spoke with made a strong, positive impression, professional, warm, and confident they could handle my project. I sent the requested photos and received confirmation they were received, and was told I'd hear from S., the project manager, within a specific time frame. After that, I never heard back, no call, email, or text. It's a shame, because it sounds like the quality of their work is good, but their lack of communication left me no choice but to hire another contractor.

What used to be an eyesore is now a space that literally makes our neighbors stop and do a double take. From start to finish, the customer service was unmatched. I changed my mind more times than I can count, and Roy was incredibly patient, flexible, and accommodating every step of the way. He really listened to what we wanted (and didn't want) and never pressured us into going over budget. The turnaround time was unbelievable--initial call on Tuesday, site visit Wednesday, and by the following Monday demo had started. The entire project was completed by Saturday! They transformed our lawn and side yard with beautiful artificial turf, planters, and even helped us convert unused space into a functional parking area. What really stood out was the extra care--daily check-ins, thoughtful recommendations, and even helping us pick up plants to save on delivery costs. That level of service is rare these days Their pricing is fair for the quality of work you get--it's absolutely worth it. We're beyond grateful for our new outdoor space. If you're on the fence, this is your sign!!! Book with them. You won't regret it!

The first one was a family plant I've had for years. They gave us no heads up they needed the area cleared and I came home to find the plant in the construction area with pieces of railing chucked on it. And then today I came home to find a candle holder nearly buried in the dirt and my clothing rack moved. And they've damaged a clear-out that was installed years ago which, before it was installed, my bathroom and my neighbor's bathroom was completely unusable for like three days. JUST ASK THE RESIDENTS WHAT YOU NEED DONE. Also, they love starting work before the legally allowed 7am, so I'm grateful I'm up at 6am, but sad for my neighbors.

They added few rows without paying attention to detail of adding sufficient concrete between them. My mom had to tell the workers to fill in the gaps. Then we had to tell them to fill in the gaps on our neighbor side because we share a wall. They did lazy work. Those areas were not filled at the joints. Needless to say, years later, today I am having issues with the wall. Because of the size block they used, my wall is now leaning and starting to buckle out. The new contractor I hired said this new block that was added is not up to code and it is the incorrect type/size. They should have never used it. Contractor also said many blocks are not set correctly because the joints were not properly adhered together with enough concrete between them. I was charged $1300 to add these 2-3 rows of blocks. And this was at least 7-8 years ago. I feel like I was ripped off. Now I have to tear the wall down and do it all over again because it has leaned to far it can't be repaired. It has to be replaced. Very upsetting especially because I wanted to hire a small local business. I want to support my community. It feels like they took advantage of our lack of knowledge behind wall building and codes. That's prob the worst part.

Couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Our project manager Tamir was exceptional -- responsive, organized, and clearly invested in the quality of the work. He kept the job moving at a surprisingly fast pace and promptly resolved issues as they arose. Pricing was competitive -- we got multiple estimates and Way To Go came in reasonable without cutting corners. You can see it in the finish quality: the stonework is clean, the tile on the curved bench is precise, and the side yard pathway turned out better than we imagined. Our pool cleaner gave high praise on the resurfacing work when he arrived for the first cleaning! Highly recommend for anyone looking to transform their outdoor space -- quality work, fair pricing, and a timeline that'll surprise you.

The remodel included changing the old plaster to mini pebble, installing new tile, adding a new LED pool light, and doing the deco seal around the pool. Once all the materials were ordered and ready, the actual work was completed in about a week, which I was really happy about. Tamir kept everything organized and the crew stayed on schedule. I also appreciated that he was able to accommodate a couple of last-minute additions I requested during the project and made sure everything was taken care of. The crew did solid work and the pool looks great now. I'm happy with how everything turned out and would recommend Way To Go Builders if you're planning a pool remodel.

I did not have a great experience with EHD Builders, whom I hired to redo the coping around my pool…read moreand stain my outdoor bar area. I hired them because they had great reviews, despite being pricier than some of the other estimates I received. Once the project commenced, there were significant delays at the beginning of the project because the supplier was out of the prefabricated coping that I selected. We opted instead to have a subcontractor pour the cement. The result was coping that is the wrong color from what I selected and has already began cracking. I wanted the pool coping to match the bar area. Instead, I have a pink/grey coping around my pool that clashes with my brown/gold bar and the other areas in my backyard with cement that is also brownish gold. The color mismatch is on top of the fact that they damaged some of the tile around the pool and replaced it with tile that did not match. To add insult to injury, the bar was also not stained properly and EHD accused me of cleaning it with harsh chemicals and ruining the finish. Ultimately, EHD agreed to have the subcontractor restain the bar after I sent photos showing that the bar had been used by the workmen tasked with pouring the cement to eat their lunch. To be clear, there were no harsh chemicals used to clean the bar, but the fact that I (the owner) was accused of damaging the bar as opposed to them taking ownership of the fact that the stain looked terrible was characteristic of my dealings with them. Even after the restaining, the surface of the bar now has a white cast and uneven stain throughout. Finally, they broke the bolts on my diving board when they removed it to lay the cement around the pool. When they realized their error, they claimed that the bolts broke after they tried to reinstall the board because the bolts were rusted. Of course, I had photos showing that the bolts were broken when the board was uninstalled initially, so they agreed that they would order new bolts to install the diving board. They never did. In the end, the company refused to fix their errors. I had to hire someone else to reinstall my diving board and I will have to pay additional expenses to have someone come out to fix my coping, which doesn't match any of the other concrete in my backyard. I reached out one last time to give them an opportunity to fix this issue. Their response was that the color of the cement (a pinkish gray) was the color that I picked out (autumn gold) and they offered me a discount on the remainder of the payment due. So to be clear - they ruined my backyard, and instead of refunding my money, requested additional payment for work that doesn't meet professional standards and is contrary to what I hired them to do. The poor workmanship, the gaslighting, the lying...If I could give zero stars, I would.
