Ali responded very quickly on Yelp and provided what seemed like a good price. I realized that buying cabinets myself and hiring Ali to build and install them would cost several thousand less than the other installer was charging to do everything, and I'd have a better kitchen for it. Ali did a great job with our pre-fab cabinets, and he also built us a custom range hood and stained our floating oak shelves to match. He customized several of our cabinets to accommodate our needs, and always provided a fair price upfront for the additional work. He's been doing this a long time and his experience and knowledge were always helpful. It's clear that he enjoys the challenge of finding creative solutions, rather than dismissing them as "too custom." Everything turned out wonderful and we get a lot of compliments on the hood. Ali was the best contractor we worked with during our renovation. He spent a lot time in our home and was always friendly and professional. If I'm nitpicking, occasionally communication was hit or miss. But the same was true and worse for every single other contractor we worked with during the renovation, so this is just par for the course I guess. So my wife and I fired them and started to frantically call every other big brand-name installer in LA, only to be told that the earliest available appointment would be mid-October!! It was unreal - our closets were completely gutted and our clothes were spread all over our spare bedroom. Fortunately, we found West Coast Organizers via this very Yelp page and appreciated the positive reviews about Jeff. When we called the number, Jeff personally answered the phone - no small army of dispatchers and customer service reps; just one man running a small, local business! The house painter wanted to cover the damage, but I didn't like the idea of slapping paint over real wood. I visited a few other cabinet resurfacing and maker companies in the Santa Clarita area. One place didn't want to do "spot" repairs because it wasn't worth their time. I found Miller Cabinetry & Millworks on Yelp and decided to give them a try. I emailed Tom, the owner, and attached a few pictures showing the damage and the areas needing repair. He replied promptly and said his employee, Ricky, could take on the job as a side project. Ricky texted me a very detailed quote outlining the work, timeline, and cost. He came over the same day to remove all the doors, panels, and drawers, then took them back to the shop to sand and strip the old varnish. On another day, he came back to sand and refinish the entire dishwasher and sink side of the cabinets. All the wood frames were completely free of old varnish. Through trial and error, Ricky manually color‑matched the finish to my existing cabinets. Aside from the slight gloss of the new varnish, it was very hard to tell the difference (see the picture of the lower and upper cabinets). Ricky's craftsmanship is top‑notch.
