This dimly lit jazz joint is nearly empty every time I walk by. Ive heard it was a great place back in the day, but I believe it's lost it's luster. I understand that they are trying to keep it classy with the dress code, but they may get some more business if they loosen it up a bit. My husband and I love coming here to listen to jazz. This place is pretty swanky - so don't show up in shorts or jeans. Otherwise, they'll stop you at the door and either offer you pants to wear, or a seat in the dining area in the hallway where you can hear the music. Lewers Lounge in the Halekulani Hotel is the quintessential epicurean's sit back-and-relax venue that, up to last night, existed only in my imagination. Arriving early for the first time, CG, the Hub, and I found ourselves sitting in a rather bright minimilistic staging area, which we mistakenly thought was The Lounge. We were beginning to resign ourselves to a mediocre experience when the doors to the real Lewers Lounge opened promptly at 7:30 p.m. OMG! Were we refreshingly surprised! We were led into another time, all aglow with candlelight lighting (without the candles) and comfortable seating that is expertly arranged so that everyone is afforded their own space. Elegant columns covered in sumptuously rich pleated drapery are strategically placed to give the added feeling of privacy. We selected a table right next to the piano and placed our orders for a Bombay Sapphire Gin Martini, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Grigio - not to forget the lightly battered mahimahi fish fingers, complimentary chocolate covered orange sticks and olive appetizers. Soon, we were wafting in the smooth sounds of Fulton Tashombe (who hails from San Francisco) on piano and Rockford "Rocky" Holmes on sax and flute. Never mind the expensive drinks, the jazz and ambiance is well worth it, and our server was adorable and doting. While the music is world class, conversation is still achievable. I found myself smiling during every song. It is rare that an establishment can leave one with such an enchanting dream-like memory. As Fulton's bluesy relaxing voice sang Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World," we truly felt it is! Thank you Halekulani, Lewers Lounge, Fulton, and Rocky. The best place to enjoy the drink or two after the dinner in Waikiki if you prefer quiet and relaxing atmosphere, live jazz music and great ambiance. The service is very good and the quality of the drinks are top notch! There are no other place in Waikiki similar to this. Drinks are little expensive but you get what you paid for. Super friendly service. Amazing wine. Great jazz ambiance and music. We happened to be there on my birthday. My boyfriend mentioned it to the bartender when he ordered a slice of their coconut cake. The bartender was nice enough to have the chef personalize it with a little "Happy Birthday Donna" written in chocolate on the plate, and told the pianist to play "Happy Birthday" to me when the cake came out. The wine there was amazing. If you like Riesling, they have one out of Germany specially made for Lewers that was sooo good. Good way to end my birthday. read more

Great atmosphere located in the Halekulani. Validated valet parking is always a plus when going out in town. Good quality live music, had a great duo the night I went. Only issue I had here was that they made a really poor Manhattan, tasted like it was 1/2 filled with vermouth. OK, I'm going to update my review, since it's been a few years having that really bad experience at Lewers Lounge. After a long hiatus, we decided to return because we really do love the music. As it turns out, the guy I complained about in my last review doesn't work there. For the last year or so, we've had very nice service from the beautiful servers there (I say beautiful because, yes, the ladies who work there are indeed beauties). Most of all, who can tear themselves away from the allure of Rocky Holmes' infectious sax / flute / clarinet playing and Maggie Herron's seductive vocals and clever piano stylings? A complete 180 from the touristi Waikiki scene. This place kind or reminded me of the Peninsula in Beverly Hills (with a more casual, island twist). Nothing short of amazing! Live music, upscale environment, classy bartenders, delicious drinks, and wonderful company, what else can you ask for? This might be one of the very few (if not only) places in Hawaii where you see staff in full tux, maybe it was just for the holidays, but I loved it. This is a super place for a date. It's very romantic and the lighting is amazing. They have a live singer on the weekend. And I must admit she's very talented. After her set she comes around and greets every one. It's a little bit pricey but it is a five star lounge. The food menu is very small and pricey but it taste really exotic. Overall I must admit I really enjoyed myself. I give it three stars because the other two would need a little bit of food involved. Nothing too extravagant but just a few more items. read more

Seriously the best mai tai's I've ever tasted. Very fresh ingredients, and a sugar cane stick to boot. This is one of my favorite mellow bars in Honolulu. They have live jazz, and it's a perfect after dinner spot. This is not a place to meet people of the opposite (or same) sex; it's more for intimate chats, dates, and for tourists.
