I am so thrilled to have this restaurant in our town! We have been several times and it's never disappointed! Obviously, the Steak Toast is off the charts, as you see it mentioned in nearly every review. I can attest, it IS that good. The seafood pasta is delicious, the Burger is top notch! We ordered the grilled baguette and my kids were delighted with the portions and my husband loved his steak. They recently started doing brunch, it was AMAZING. The Eggs Benedict rotates, last week it was braised beef, chorizo hollandaise, on fried cornbread, perfectly poached egg and I ordered a side of their pickled onions, it all pulled together perfectly. We came early and beat the busy mother's day dinner rush by booking for a 4:15pm on Yelp. So glad we did. We got everything rather quickly and got ample attention being it's our first time here. Our server Will .. boy he was so helpful in filling in all the holes and answering any questions we had. Before long, this place got super busy. So glad to see this place is doing well being we are in love with it too after only one visit. It felt like we are not in Monroe. The upscale experience felt like we are in downtown Bellevue or Seattle. Granted there's no booth seating and white table cloths, that's quite alright. The standout was the robust flavor and textures of every dish dancing all over our tasters and we were so wowed by every bite. The calamari came in the tinier dainty variety so had to be eaten with a fork it was the most unique with the seasoned peppers and goat cheese for an interesting contrast of textures and flavors that's new and fun for us...The steak toast was one big piece of toasted baguette drowned in tender braised beef laced with a tangy balsamic reduction. Fresh arugula, sweet onions and fresh peas were added for freshness which we enjoyed. I had to hold myself back knowing I had to save my appetite for my main course. Cocktails: The huckleberry lemon drop was recommended by Will it was both generous and yummy.. Gin/tonic : got to choose from different kinds of gin and tried the one with botanical notes. Very clean and crisp. The crescendo! Prime rib: My hubby's Sunday only prime rib was perfect. It was a juicy medium rare leaning more towards rare which is exactly what he hoped for. The au jus was several notches above your typical steakhouse jus. The sides weren't slapped on, every side was chef quality and beautifully displayed. Pork chop: I asked for the mustard cream on the side. Will explained it's a beurre blanc sauce it's simply amazing and he was right! It was a velvety mild mustard sauce that made the chop shine. Made sure that sauce is coming home with me! I agreed with the other yelper this pork chop is perfect! Will definitely get this again and again. Sweets: Honey lavender cheesecake: head turner as the table next to us was eyeing my hubby's dessert and asked us being it looked so creative with the fancy lavender cubes and dollops of meringue strategically placed for our eyes to feast on. Normally not a big fan of store bought chalky meringue but this is so light and delicious it has gotta be made in house. Creme brûlée: so smooth and velvety and not too sweet which is how I like it and lots of it in a deep dish ramekin. Perfect finish with a cup of dark roast black coffee. Our bellies were full but we didn't feel like tubs of lard. We left feeling very happy already thinking of when we should come back. The nice man we chatted with order the filet mignon for him and his wife. The biggest best looking filet we have ever seen unlike the old er Yelp pic we saw. We can't wait to try it next time. We came here for a belated birthday dinner last night and really enjoyed the vast majority of our experience. It's in an older building a couple blocks off Route 2, and has been both a bistro and a brewery in the last 15 years. The brewery hit some real high notes from time to time, but they were kinda out of the way--and it was before the days when every area had a brewery of its own, like now. The bistro claimed ambitions of brewing some things on their own, as does L&M. That bistro was great, but rarely poured its own beers. L&M does not have beers of its own pouring at the moment, either, but they DO put "brewery" right there in the name of the business, so we'll see. It's probably still the same brewhouse that's been there since at least the 00s, just waiting to ferment something. Five of us sat toward the back, near both the bar and the display kitchen. The front room is kinda chopped up, with a bit of seating, a few wines on display, and a long counter that seems to function simply as the host station (even though it probably has room to seat 10+ if it were a bar). In back, there's a display kitchen to the left, and an inviting big bar across the back wall. Plenty of table seating for eating and drinking, and on this spring Saturday night, they had just about every seat taken. Nice! Mixed crowd of families, groups of friends, everybody's casual. The menu is short, kinda old-school, and super interesting. We had calamari (excellent!), foie gras (full lobes, served with buttery toast, sweet-ish savory sauce, and dried cherries...amazing!) and braised beef toast (tender beef on just a little bread with lots of warm green vegetables, also amazing). There were other apps that sounded spectacular, and you can order half servings of them if you opt for the tasting menu. Nice option. The entrees looked very appealing, but 4 of us had 100% talked ourselves into steaks before arriving. The smells of grilling steak go everywhere in the back room--the kitchen is busy, and it's a display kitchen, so it's right in the room with you. If you're omnivorous, you quickly get hungry for steak. Here's where things get uneven. The seafood pasta came out for the non-steak craver, and it was quite soupy. You know how you finish a serving of clams and mussels, and there's all that broth you sop up with bread? This was that soupy, except with no bread. And it's a pasta dish, not just a stack of shellfish, so you want the sauce clinging to the noodles, not puddling way up under them. Flavor was good...but the sauce broke by the time she finished eating. This dish needs a rethink. One of us ordered the filet, and he was thrilled with his choice. In fact, he ate as fast as I've seen him eat anything in the 10+ years I've known him. Tender steak, flavorful potatoes (their mashers are truly fantastic), and another lobe of foie just to make the dish rich enough to buy a small nation. The wagyu New Yorks were another story. $55 a pop, which seems like an unexpectedly good price for wagyu these days. Food cost on that dish would be 40+% if they just did it with prime New Yorks from Costco, let alone with wagyu, so how are they pulling this off? I'd be very curious to see what their supplier is up to, and also to see how the steak might change if they switched to another wagyu supplier. In fact, this was probably a less-tender steak than the choice New Yorks Costco sells...which, at that price, makes me raise an eyebrow. One of us ordered his rare, and it came out cooked 85% of the way through. The kitchen fixed it quickly, and the server promised to box up the wrong steak if he was interested--he said yes, but the box never appeared at any point. I gotta say, though, that truly-rare second plate was the steak of the night, so order it rare if you get the steak. I had a wagyu New York cooked medium well (ordered medium rare). It tasted great, but wasn't wagyu-tender. I ate it all, though--the flavor really was there, and it was still an okay steak. I helped finish another one on the table, too. So it's not like it was a complete disappointment. But it seems like they either need to rename the steak (e.g., not wagyu) or change the supplier. The bar program here is just great--we had a margarita, 3 beers, and a couple bottles of good red wine between us. Fair prices, clean lines pouring the draft beers. They brought out a Belgian ale in a shaker pint glass, without bringing the rest of the bottle. I'd rethink pouring imports: get appropriate glasses, and pour at the table as with wine. Overall, I'd happily come back for appetizers and to explore the entrée section of the menu. Avoiding a couple things on any menu is not a huge deal, and this place is still somewhat new. They're likely still ironing out kinks, and for all I know the steaks could change. This is a great addition to Monroe's dining scene. It had no sides/ vegetables few over bartered friend mushrooms. The meat was tough, had char on it- like I had a mouth of charcoal - clean your grill.. , it was very dense it lacked flavor and texture. Ate 1/3 and Got the rest to go for my dog. I should have sent it back. For $55 steak do way better or take it off the menu. Beignets are excellent. Servers are and very nice. Spent over $150 for myself with tip so expected better. I had my rehearsal dinner at Lewis & Main and it was such a fantastic experience. Charlotte our event coordinator and Josh our chef truly brought our dream dinner to life. The planning process was easy, and they went above and beyond to create such a fun night within our budget. The private room was cozy, classic, and beautifully decorated. The whole team did a great job at making the night run smoothly. Most of all, the food was absolutely delicious and blew our expectations away. I would recommend this place to everyone I know and everyone that they know it is one of the most amazing restaurants I've ever been to. I very much wanted this place to succeed but after five tries over several years... never again. In the past it has been a story of highs and lows with every meal but both the highs and lows have trended down. Todays mess started with happy hour drinks, a wedge salad and fish and chips. The lemon drop was a highlight... the house red was worse than expected and expectations were low. The wedge salad first came delivered as a caesar that looked pretty solid and was replaced with a wedge that had a bit of an unusual flavor with creamy bacon dressing. Okay, but not really what you would expect from a typical blue cheese wedge. The fish and chips was a complete disaster... three tiny slivers of grayish fish wrapped with an excessively puffy mass of fried battery goo. Fries were nicely seasoned but that is a bit generous; overall short of a very low standard. This dish should not be on the menu without a complete overhaul. A hazy IPA cleaned out the taste of the red blend and was nice. We ordered the halibut and pork chop as mains. There was no shortage of staff milling about and cooks behind the line so we hoped for a better finish. After an unexpectedly long wait the mains made it to the table. The halibut was nicely plated but looked overcooked on the plate. The pork chop was a bit of a mess with a large double chop floating atop a sea of cuscus along with a dreadful looking blob of greens. You never know though, looks can be deceiving and I held out hope. The halibut was indead painfully overcooked and without flavor, bad enough for my wife to pass on having it remade... please, just take it away. The pork chop was low okay with the quality of the cut being a bit underwhelming for restaurant use. After a few sample bites I had enough. The cuscus was a bit messy but flavorful. We quickly closed out the tab to make our exit and filled a take away box with the chop and cuscus feeling a bit obligated with the thought of making a doggie meal. The meal was so disappointing that we just tossed the take away box in a convenient trash bin on the way to the car to help clear the memory and will not be returning for a sixth try. read more

We've lived in the Sky Valley areas for several years but HOLY COW!! This is what we've been missing by limiting our to travel to Seattle/Bellevue. We just hope no one from there ever comes here. We started with a the brussel sprouts with bacon, moved onto the braised pork with swiss chard and apples along with wagyu steak...I'm cutting it with a butter knife!! (they didn't provide a steak knife nor did I ask for one...motivated!). Lastly...because everything previously was nothing short of amazing... creme brule which I've never had because I based it off of flan. Another wow!! I highly recommend going here. Made a reservation for the wife's birthday and had a wonderful time. The entire staff was amazing. Our server's recommendations were great! The Lobster Mac n Cheese was super flavorful and delicious. The Wagyu steak was cooked to perfection, tender and the garlic butter was great! Met the owner and talked to him for a while, had to give a compliment about our server Will! The cooks were great an interactive with us as well. Classy atmosphere, excellent service, and very good food that seems out of place in small town Monroe. My friend and I stopped here for dinner after a long hike in nearby Gold Bar. We arrived around 5:00 P.M. on Sunday and were seated right away, despite the fact that we had no reservations. I ordered the filet, which came with an assortment of colorful carrots and potatoes. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium, as requested. My friend had the seafood pasta and said it was delicious. We split a Caesar salad to start. It was good, but I absolutely cannot stand it when I have to cut up a salad to eat it. The only other gripe I have were the prices, which were a bit on the outrageous side. Dinner was a hundred bucks before the tip, and the only alcohol involved was my friend's one beer. I had tea. This is a clean restaurant with attentive service and solid food. We've been to lewis and main several times. The food is always delicious! Last night was a bit of a mess though. I ordered the shareable sweet potato dumplings with duck confit (literally how the description reads off the menu). Last time it was with fried gnocchi instead of dumplings and piled with duck meat. It arrived on two different plates, the dumplings in a bowl and the duck confit was on a dish of what looked like little black beans... I was a bit confused, but they're always changing things up there- as mentioned, last time it came with gnocchi... My husband ordered a steak, normally very good. He ordered medium, it arrived over cooked and VERY charred... needless to say it wasn't the best we've ever had there. The bill comes- they had charged us for the dumpling confit shareable (which literally had NO duck or meat of any kind in it! It was just the 5 small dumplings with peas- The duck was on the other plate!) but then they charged for the duck confit entree with lentils also (tiny black bean mystery solved)! The dumplings and duck were delicious, of course (minus the lentils). Just wish I had received exactly what I had ordered... it was almost like they gave me the confit entree with a small side of dumplings. Not sure how that got so screwed up. After trying to explain the situation several times to the waitress, they did end up comping the duck and lentil entree.... I was literally excited to do this review. The service here is amazing. Their mixologist Ethan was incredible in crafting our cocktails to our tastes. Our server, Will, has been nothing short of perfect, courteous, and proactive in giving us the best experience. Our appetizers have been the cauliflower fritters, the Brussels sprouts, and the Southern Fried cornbread. The entrees were the halibut and the Wagyu 16 oz. For dessert, we did the beignets. Let me tell you, these guys do magic with their vegetables. Actual magic, pretty sure there's a contract with the devil somewhere in the paperwork, because I cannot believe the cauliflower fritters and Brussel sprouts were as simply delicious as they were. The steak was awesome (I had it with the garlic butter, but I'm pretty sure all the toppings would have been fantastic). The halibut was perfectly cooked. All the sides were just top notch. This is a gem of a restaurant hiding out in the sleepy little town of Monroe. Definitely don't miss it if you are a local or if you're just passing through on your way somewhere else. I stopped in on my through town on a whim and was totally blown away by the food. They recommend getting reservations, which is a good idea because it was busy even on a weekday, but they still seated me pretty quickly. I only eat plants, so it's not often I eat at a restaurant that really impresses me with food that feels like actual cuisine. They didn't have a ton of vegetarian options on the menu so I just left the server and the chef know, and they brought me some amazing plates including this outstanding eggplant dish and a watermelon salad to start that was perfect on a hot summer day. read more

Stopped in for drinks and decided to try a dessert. Who would have thought that choosing a "vanilla cake" from the menu would have been so epic! Had reservations for an early dinner last night (pre-5:30 pm), for Valentines. Had been to L & M previously and had a great experience. Last night, brutal. Seemed they overbooked and set up make shift tables for two in the front where it was loud with a rush of very cold air every time the door opened. The worst part: It took almost two hours after ordering to get our main meals. Our waiter spoke to the Manager (Blake) who eventually came out to talk to us to see how we were doing. I stated it was taking a long time for our food and he says in a snide way "that's why I'm here". He offered bread and a drink, both of which we didn't really want. I shared that it had been so long after eating an appetizer (~an hour a half) that I was no longer hungry. Blake said they were busy and the non-dairy request (for my wife's Salmon) through them a curve. Wait a minute: How much is required for Salmon to not have dairy? What would have been nice and honestly, was expected at that point would have been to hear: I'm sorry folks, we'll comp this meal or even the next time you are here. On a night when the restaurant RAKED in huge dollars (would wager it will be their busiest night and highest throughput night), seems they could have afforded to reduce our bill. Very doubtful well return. Great location and nice staff. Encourage raising your game. Invest in creating better seating, and be ready with a better offset for when things go off the rails. read more

Lewis and Main as a restaurant is a study in contrasts. It is on one hand, a comfortable low key environment where the smell of cooking meat wafts from the open kitchen and you and your close friends can hang out and have a good meal. The menu that underlies this laid back environment is one of sophistication offering items like foi gras, duck breasts, and well portioned steaks. This approachable sophistication is unique for a place like Monroe and it has become a staple of the community. Atmosphere: As mentioned above the atmosphere is pleasant and I always enjoy the smell of cooking food that permeates the restaurant. The dining tables and chairs basic but comfortable and lightly appointed (small, plates, wrapped silverware, and small flower on the table). Drinks/bar: there are some notable cocktails on the menu which are very good. I am partial to manhattans and they make very good ones and the gin fizz and other specialty cocktails set the stage for a good start to the meal. If you are looking for specific top tier whiskeys or such you won't find a good selection. The list is serviceable but it isn't a destination where you will find a deep list to choose from. Service: the service is pleasant and very responsive to the customers needs. From the time you are greeted to when you leave the staff is present and quick to connect with their customers. Food: Ironically the food is the part of the experience that I found most lacking . The first time we went the food was extremely salty and almost difficult to finish while this last time it was almost unseasoned. We had the Valentine's tasting menu tonight and the second course was lukewarm for both me and my fiancé. In the case of our dessert the crème brûlée wasn't set completely and the chocolate cake lacked salt and strong chocolate flavor. For me, the seasoning and the temperature has been hit or miss the times I have been there. All of the above considered, it is a good local restaurant for a date night. I rated it three stars because while good it isn't anything special outside Monroe. read more

We finally made it in to try this place albeit on Sunday about an hour before closing. We nearly had the place to ourselves so the service was just right - checking on us without hovering. I started with the wedge which was plenty and had all of the fixings plus peppers which added a twist. I had the burger which is covered (deep!) in grilled onions. I had to ditch the onions part way - too much of a good thing. The fries were seasoned really well. And yes, they have artists in the kitchen that clearly make sure every plate is just-so - a nice touch. On our way out, we met the manager (didn't get her name) who shared some of their work and plans - exciting things to come! Went to Lewis & Main for the first time for a Birthday Dinner. Initial impression was the nice ambiance, but how empty the restaurant was for a Saturday at 5pm. We were a party of two and were seated directly next to another couple dining there. A bit odd as I mentioned the restaurant was fairly empty but not a big deal. We ordered drinks and the cornbread to share which were served reasonably quickly and was enjoyable. The entrees is where the experience began to fall apart. We ordered the Sirloin steak and Korean BBQ sandwich. The steak had a decent crust on both sides (charred) and was cooked appropriately (medium-rare). Unfortunately the steak was bland and somewhat tough. I read another review stating that the steaks tasted as if they had no seasoning or other methods of flavoring and I agree. I was told garlic butter would be applied to the top of the steak which generally enhances the flavor. Regardless of whether it was present on the steak or not, there was no flavor. Additionally the mushrooms accompanying the steak seemed off. I thought they were exceptionally slimy and my girlfriend stated that it tasted like they had been sitting in a liquid for an extended period of time. The Korean BBQ sandwich looked appetizing but the chicken was far too thin. The breading made up 2/3 of the friend chicken as if only eating deep fried batter. The fries with the sandwich were seasoned fairly well but were limp from the get go. Our dining experience was less than 45 minutes as we asked for boxes after eating only a portion (to be respectful) of our meals. My girlfriend politely packed her food away but I didn't want to pack my food just to throw it away later. The sever noticed this and asked me if something was wrong with the meal. I gently explained what was wrong with it, as stated above, after she insisted that the feedback would be helpful for the chefs. Generally I don't complain about meals as I would rather not stir the pot, preferring to not dine at I enjoyable locations in the future. Regardless, the server politely removed the steak from our tab which was one of the only redeeming factors of our experience and why we chose to tip 20% on our remaining tab. Overall, the food was very disappointing but the service was great. Unfortunately we do not plan on attending this restaurant in the future. read more

Tonight was my first time going to Lewis and Main, not only was the food and the service 100% perfect, when I chatted with Brian about my reservation I told him I was coming with my wife for our anniversary and asked him if he worked with any florists in the area? This is what he came up with. He personally picked these up and had them on our table. We even got a thank you card signed by the whole staff, with a happy anniversary message. Exactly what Monroe needs. I went into Lewis and Main for the first time last night. From the moment we walked through the door to the moment we left we received exceptional service. Even better than the service was the food! We started out by sharing some plates. We got the calamari, corn fritters with romesco, the mussels and sausage and the cornbread. All of them blew us away. After the starters we moved onto mains. I can't recommend their steaks enough. Quality meat cooked to perfection. Fish prepared perfectly. And one of the members of our group got the lobster Mac! We finished with the Creme Brûlée and New York Style Cheesecake. Oh and they have a great wine list! Everything that touched our table exceeded our expectations. Went here for a work dinner. The food was good, but very heavy. It felt like all of the appetizer options were fried, and the batter was really thick. It's also very loud inside. Have tried to go again as a walk-in but it books up pretty quick! Definitely make a reservation. read more

My wife and I had the chance to enjoy a really wonderful dinner. Lewis & Main is a fabulous place right in the heart of Monroe. We've shared a tomato salad with goat cheese, arugula, and pickled onion, phenomenal heirloom tomatoes, and really delicious. I will now proceed to describe my dish, I wished my wife would share her thoughts on her entree, but here it goes, I ordered the Halibut (which happened to be the last one of the evening, lucky me! ) and let me tell you, just from the visual aspect, I knew it was going to be brilliant! The sear on the Halibut was flawless. I glanced at an angle, and in the light, you could spot what might have been flakes of fine finishing salt. Underneath the Halibut were these fingerling potatoes, enoki mushrooms, yellow squash, and the freshest haricot verts, all were swirling away in a beguilingly unctuous butter-based sauce that I am unable to describe further, absolutely epic and incredibly delicious. This is one of our favorite burger places and their corn bread is THE BEST! We are so excited that they are doing weekend brunch too! Everything on their brunch menu is delicious consistently. Their cooking is 5-stars across the board (taste, texture, quality). More gastro-esque than diner. read more
