I took my elderly cat to LAH for several months bc he was acting out of character. Meowing a lot. Staring at walls. He was unable to jump. First vet told me he was crying in pain and recommended Silencia (cat arthritis med). It worked great for two months, but my cat didn't seem to benefit from the 3rd shot. He continued to decline. Not really moving. Except to go the bathroom or drink water or eat. And he meowed a lot. In a cat fight kind of voice. I could tell he was distressed. I took him back on 2-9. Vet gave ear drops for an ear infection. My cat had lost a lot of weight. Vet said to do blood tests. Tests came back and she called me and read the results back to me. But the numbers meant nothing to me but she kept reading. She suggested that I get another antibiotic "just in case" and to change his food to one that they sell. She was devoid of empathy. And at one point I said, "we love our cat, we don't want to keep him alive if he's in pain or his quality of life is poor." I was looking for guidance. She said nothing and resumed reading her test results. The following week his abdomen was greatly distended. And he was having trouble moving. I took him back to LAH. Front desk was super kind. No vets there Bc They don't start until later in the morning. Vet tech (also very kind) checked his vitals and said she couldn't diagnose, but she said he was very sick. She recommended Grady Animal Hospital for treatment. GAH told me he had a large mass in his liver. The mass pushed his organs out of their regular position. His heart was enlarged bc the heart had to work so hard bc of the organ positioning. They recommended euthanasia. LAH was incredibly dismissive of my concerns. And they missed this large liver mass which could actually be palpated. My cat needlessly suffered for months bc these vets wrote him off as an old "cranky" cat and none of them really listened to my concerns about his behavior or quality of life. We would never have made him suffer this long had we known how sick he really was. read more

Well after he was having some bleeding and I called and they had me send in pictures If the area and it wasn't but maybe 5 to 10 mins and the Dr. (Dr P) called Me babe. Awesome ppl. This is the place to take your pets for grooming if you want them to come back home sick every time. When the issue was addressed with the owner he blew it off and acted like it's simply because our dogs are older. We have been loyal customers for nearly 15 years, but never again. Our West Highland Terrier has come home 2 times in a row sick 2 days after with a bladder infection once and an unknown illness the second time. Our Pappian has a cough and her ears were not cleaned with the grooming and she now has an ear Infection. Utter incompetence and unwillingness to admit they have an issue means we won't be back. I would no longer recommend this business. It's a shame because this place was great before the big expansion and now they are expanding again. read more

Yoda has been seen by the docs and staff for almost 11 years now . They are all ever so kind , wise and patient with him - and me !!! Yoda just had 6 teeth extracted and I was very nervous. Everything was explained to me so that I was finally at ease . He loves going Lewis Animal Hospital! Wags his tail like crazy . Other dogs in my life always trembled while going to other vets . Love these vets and staff! I drive 20 minutes to have my dogs cared for by this group(passing several other vets offices) The vets are great with all sizes and shapes of dogs/cats. When there is an illness or injury the vets explain all options for treatment, sometimes they'll even offer what they would choose to do if it were their pet. My dogs have boarded here several times and they love it. I wouldn't trust any dog sitter or other kennel to care for them while we're out of town. read more

We went to this vet for over 12 years with our 2 dogs. I gave them a negative review prior to this one and it has been deleted. Now one of my 2 dogs has died from cancer that Lewis Animal Hospital failed to diagnose in that 12 years. This place used to be great, but is horrible now that they are focused on expansion. If you care about your pets, then don't take them here. The owner accepts no responsibility for the incompetence of his staff, especially the groomer and has went out of his way to have my reviews removed. I will keep on posting them. read more

Don't go here. I think some of these reviews are fake. When I picked up my sheepadoodle from the breeder, the first thing I did was look at reviews and scheduled a vet visit. I chose the Lewis Animal Hospital on E Galbraith. When I took my puppy in, I was told to stay in the car because of COVID conditions. I could tell the vet barely looked at him because I was out of there in the next 30 minutes. The guy spent more time talking to me about the UC basketball team on the phone than allowing time to for questions about my puppy. Instead, he gave me a pack of brochures with different food and medicine to give my dog as if I was supposed to figure it all out on my own. Fast forward a week later and my puppy is barking at me like he's in pain. When I took him in a second time, the lady took a look and recommended that I take him to the ER. When she left my car, I forgot to ask her a question about which ER to take my puppy to. When I tried to get her attention, she kept walking away. When she got inside, she changed the open sign to closed and completely ignored me as I tried to wave at her in order to get her attention. What kind of vet ignores people like that? I am extremely pissed off with what kind of situation I'm in. I'm also extremely pissed off with how these people barely spent any time to talk about my pet's wellbeing. These people are careless! If you care about the wellbeing of your pet and don't want to be treated like a faceless customer, don't take your pet here! read more

I have been taking my fur babies since my first baby, Socks. They are absolutely the most caring vets and when Socks was so ill and we tried everything they were very sympathetic and gently told me that he wasn't going to get better. As painful as that was, they were so caring. I would never take my pets any where else. They are quick to get me in if I have an emergency. Several of the employees have been there as I have been going there which is awesome! Hands down the best vets!!! read more

He always suggests multiple treatment options and explain everything in a way that you understand and are able to make an informed decision. We have been looking for a new get after years of bad service from a vet on Reed Hartman Hwy. While looking....I stumbled onto Lewis Animal Hospital and remembered I had taken my cat there 20 + yrs ago so we gave it a try yesterday. I can't express how impressed I have been from the front desk customer service to the techs who came to get our dog out of the car. The vet was kind as well. When your pet is like a member of the family....stop settling for jerky vet offices that act like they could care less about if you come back or not. Give Lewis a try! read more

We have trusted Lewis Animal Hospital for decades and feel my dogs are in great care with Dr. Polaski and Dr. Keller (Mr. & Mrs.). Whenever they have had issues, they are always better after their treatment from there. The staff is pretty friendly, although sometimes the girls on the phone could be a little more polite. But overall, they are my vet and the only ones I would go to as long as I live in the area. read more

I've taken my dogs to Lewis for years and have always been pleased with Dr. Pulaski. But today Dr. Keller (Mr.) saw two of my dogs and spent ten minutes hard-selling me on NexGard and HeartGard...while he was wearing scrubs with the NexGard and HeartGard logos embroidered on the front. Not only did he get very aggressive with the pitch--including the great discounts he could offer me and why we should buy from them--but he literally never mentioned anything or asked anything about either of my dogs' health; he gave them their shots while the sales pitch continued. It felt like a visit from a pharmaceutical sales rep with a quota to meet, not a veterinarian who's paying close attention to what's best for my dogs; for me that's a huge credibility issue. We won't be back to Lewis. Nice new building, though. read more

This is a great vet with wonderful people. We've been bringing our dogs here for years. The reason for the 3 instead of 5 stars is that lately, (last year or so) they seem to be overbooking appointments so that when your there it's quite a wait to be seen, (great when you have a dog that doesn't want to go to the vet). Since covid they have you wait in your car and call them so they come get your pet and bring them back out once finished. The last time I went there was no spots left and I got a busy signal for 10 minutes trying to tell them I was there for our appointment. If they'd go back to having not so many appointments at a time and focus on the quality not speed of care I'd happily give them 5 stars again. read more

DO NOT LET BOBBI GROOM YOUR PET! I have been taking my 4 pets here since I moved to the area in September. I love the vet services, so I decided to try out the groomer for my cat. He sticks his face in his wet food as he eats and gets mats under neck as a result, also sometimes has litter box issues of getting poo in his tail. I brought my cat in for a dental, microchip, and cut. Everything besides the cut was great. The cut looked like nothing was done other than a wash/dry. Even though my cat was asleep the whole time from the dental, so the cut should've been easy. The groomer, Bobbi never spoke to me prior to the cut I told the vet tech what I wanted and I guess somewhere down the line the message wasn't clear. I called once I got home and really looked him over and they said they'd have the owner call me. He called and was very apologetic and said he wanted make things right and would have Bobbi call me. She called the next day left a message telling me to bring my cat in at my convenience. I took my cat in today for the redo, two of my other pets were due for vaccines and I have a busy schedule so this was convenient for me. Bobbi came in and asked "What was wrong with the last haircut?" I explained she didn't do what I wanted especially the tail, she said "I don't normally cut the tail hair." But that is what I wanted! She never said sorry, or thank you for bringing him back in. I explained for this appointment I wanted his hair thinned, mats under his neck cut, and tail hair trimmed. Bobbi asked if I wanted him shaved, I said NO. When I went to pay the front desk informed me Bobbi wants to charge me for the cut today too because it's been "too long" I explained the situation to the front desk and they waived it "this time." Once I got my cat home from this appointment and looked him over his entire stomach was shaved, his tail barely looked trimmed other than the very tip. His mats under his neck were gone, but he was still very wet, seems like she just rushed through his cut since it was a redo. I went back up after bringing my cat home and explained the situation, they said his stomach hair was matted, they tried to cut the mats out but it needed to be shaved. Even though I said no to him being shaved, she should've consulted me first and came out after the appointment and explained her self. Instead of just having the vet tech bring him out. Bobbi is a terrible groomer and not friendly at all. I will never bring my pets near her again. Even though I've loved every minute of the vet care they've provided my pets I will not bring them back after two mishaps and no compensation. read more

BEWARE: Willow our bunny is extremely sick after taking her to get spayed at Lewis Animal Hospital. After surgery the staff just brought her out in her cage, no coming in and consultation......, no review of where her incision..... NOTHING!!! The next day, we looked at her extremely large incision and it was wide open. I immediately called and said something doesn't look right with Willows incision and I was told that Willow probably was to blame. When I brought her in, Dr. P said he was very concerned and put her on antibiotics oral and topical. Willow had an infection and her stitches was loose and incision wide open, so he glued it shut. I can go on and on about this place 5 weeks later Sand weekly visit every week. One of the receptionist hung up on me after telling me that they have been DEALING with me for weeks. I took Willow to a second opinion after I was instructed by Dr. P not to take her to the emergency and keep bringing her to him. Willow still has infection and he ignored the under the skin swelling saying it was her stitches. It is filled with infection. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YOUR RABBIT HERE. We had to make tough decision about a beloved pet. The doctor laid out all options and respected our decision. The whole office was so compassionate and caring, I tear up still. I have been taking my dogs and cats to Lewis Animal Hospital since the 90s! Obviously, I trust them and have gotten to know all the doctors well. I believe Lewis Animal's strongest point is that the vets' diagnoses and treatment of pets is based on their education (daaa) and their experience. Unlike some other veterinarian clinics, Lewis tends NOT to recommend running a series of tests to determine this or that/rule out this or that, so that you walk out of the vet's w/ a bill of $250. Instead, they offer you a diagnosis and options for treatment that are based on their ample experience. It has always worked for me. This strikes me as an old-school philosophy of treatment--way before the phrase "philosophy of treatment" became hip to use. The vets are practical, forthcoming with information, and have in mind that caring for pets can be costly for us. They are friendly and accessible, as is the staff. read more
