I love coming here....not only to look at the lovely jewelry and gifts, but because this store is exactly what you would expect from Main Street in a small town. The staff is amazingly friendly and helpful. You feel like they are really relating to you as a real human being, versus just another sale or something. And they do great work, if you need repairs or adjustments. The last ring I brought in to be slightly enlarged came out beautifully, and was reasonably priced to boot. I brought a sentimental 18k gold chain into the store to get fixed. The chain broke in two pieces. The charge was $30 for each sodder plus tax. This chain has been fixed four times in the last 20 years and has always slipped over my head even after a repair. When I called the office to report that the chain no longer slipped over my head and that it appeared one section of the chain had not been soddered but I had been charged for two sodders, a woman told me "we've been doing business with this person in New York for many years and have never experienced any problems". I asked her to relay the message to the owner and to have him give me a call. I waited two weeks and have received no phone call. The people working at Lewis were all professional and kind, but also dismissive when I called to discuss why my chain no longer could be put on over my head and my two sodder charge of $60. I understand that they cannot control what happens when they send out a piece of jewelry to get fixed, but they certainly had control over making the decision to discuss my issue and call me back to investigate. For that reason, I will bring my business elsewhere. read more
