Been going to LGND for years. I started back in the Legacy days. This gym is a no frills - no BS - you get out what you put in - kind of gym. There is so much equipment, you can work out a different part of your body every day in different ways. The staff are really cool. And they are there for you 24 hours a day seven days a week. The most important thing about this place is to remember why you are there and then, just show up. If you keep putting in consistent effort - you'll see results. Treating Alll members with respect would be cool since we're all equal. Better customer service would have been appreciated, certify your team BLS, first-aide, AED, and other specialty concerns. I have epilepsy, and I was NOT treated with respect each time I had episode here. The owners employees(team) needs a run down on customer service and how to talk to act like they want to be here. They always look like they hate life and talk to you with an attitude. As for their equipment, it's not bad, but it would be even better if the machines and cables would stop breaking and then they would fix it within a week. But, they let it stay broken for months. I came here not to long ago for a day since my family member, Brian, works out here and recommended it. To my amazement, this facility is beautiful and clean! My pictures do no justice because I just wanted to work out but this place is big and lacks no equipment for the patrons who come here. They have powerlifting equipment, your cardio needs, free weights, tons of machines to and for me the KG plates for powerlifting that caught my full attention. If I lived in Texas, this place would be my go to because for the price of the place and what it has to offer, it's a no brainer! read more

It's crazy to say but I've been in gyms for over 30 years now. I was in a Golds Gym in California in the early 90s. You don't find gyms like that anymore, not anywhere. Well, LGND is that kind of gym. Large footprint, with TONS of machines, racks, dumbells and the best part is the plates are metal. Took me back to the days of "clanging and banging". Loved it so much I went back for a second day. If this gym was near my home in Northern California I'd be a member instantly. It's a vibe, a place where real work gets done. As we all know, first impressions are the lasting impression. My first month with the gym so far has been amazing! Nice equipment, amazing atmosphere, and super friendly staff... Whatever the issue may be, the staff are always swift to resolve the issue. With this in mind, I'd like to share an experience I had today. While I was working out with my girlfriend, analyzing and critiquing her sets, Henry approached me. He propelled his voice from a machine over to get my attention; then went into saying, "You can't be training her," "Do you pay rent? Do you?" "You can work out too, if not, you can leave." He was overall very aggressive and (if I'd not been calm and rational) would've escalated the situation further than it had to be. Before I continue, here are 3 things about me: 1) I'm a 20-year-old African American college student working towards a degree in Business Administration. 2) I was born into a Military Family. My Grandfather and Brother both served (Army & Marines). 3) I've also been going to this gym for about 3 weeks, both by myself and with friends. (DISCLAIMER: I'm not coming on here to say that I wasn't in the wrong, nor to bash the Owner. I'm leaving a review for other consumers who might share the same opinions as I, to prevent any friction they might have while at LGND.) Both of us finished our sets, and she left. I stayed back to resume the conversation (I never got to have) with Henry before I left. I presented my concerns about the way the situation was handled. I informed Henry that I'm not a trainer, nor do I even have a certificate to train people. Henry expressed his concerns, which I fully understood. Even if I were a trainer, actively using his gym without permission to 'train' wouldn't benefit his business... Especially if she were to get hurt. Henry heavily emphasized that he, "MUST treat every situation like this." Henry told me that their General Manager (?) had been watching us on the cameras; we spent 20 minutes stretching and 7 minutes working out. I changed the weights for my girlfriend, checked her form, and used her phone to see what progress needed to be made (This is where Henry approached me). He was saying that I wasn't actively working out. This is true, my girlfriend had yet to finish her sets. Even after I told Henry this, he dismissed it, saying, "Well, I work out with three guys at once, and we only take like 30 seconds between our sets." ... Are you kidding me??? That is literally what we're doing--Yet, you're coming to accuse me of "being a trainer" and "not using the machine?" (Please note, this was the first machine we'd walked up to.) While his concerns are understandable, I believe that Henry and his General Manager could've handled the situation better. As someone paying for a membership there, I'd appreciate these 3 things: 1) Taking the initiative towards a calm, rational conversation: Next time, approach people with respect. Even if they're violating policy, give them benefit-of-the-doubt that way you can construct a positive relationship with them. THAT'S KEY!!!!!!! 2) Transparency and positive consumer relationships: Even at the front desk, the gentleman got a call from someone(?) who was asking about me... I heard, "Yeah, he can talk to you, too. He wanted to talk to the Owner." Why'd you call? Was I threatening? Aggressive? Angry? [ Please respond! ] 3) Just listen: Regardless of who you're talking to, let them speak and listen to understand. Be. Respectful. I truly do enjoy coming to LGND. But this experience has left a stain on the relationship I have with the gym. I'm still not too sure if I will be returning. read more

My second home. I just moved to Houston for work and was determined to find a 24-7 gym. It was either this or planet fitness. They do not have an annual membership fee. No maintenance fees. No random spike in members fees. No cancelation fees. Sounds pretty nifty right? Downside is there is a credit card fee if you wanted to pay monthly with your card so your alternative is your bank account and tax is not included. There's no fluff to the gym. You won't get the accessories of a pool, basketball, cardio movie theater etc. It's best for people that just want to lift and go. The ac is pretty weak so you'll definitely be sweating shortly after you enter and do one set. Surely there are peak times which I purposely avoid. There is music and it's surprisingly quite motivating. No pop music. Front desk are friendly. Everyone respects each other at the gym and racks their weights. They wipe down their machines. There are bathrooms and showers which I never used. I only wash my hands after a work out because it tends to get quite dirty after a work out. I guess not everyone cleans up after themselves. Location is kinda hard to find since Google maps is inaccurate for them. Parking isn't a problem. Overall I'm happy with my membership. So far no complaints. Not for people that need guidance and doesn't want a trainer. You need to know how to use the machines because there are no pictures! Eventually I'll be less intimated with leg day and finally do it. The owner is (H. Walker) is incredibly rude. Couldn't believe the way he conversed with me. Spoke at me, not to me - was sarcastic, and 100% full of himself. Front desk staff is also awful, and so is whoever answers the phone. It's hard to believe that people think this is any way to conduct themselves to their PAYING CLIENTS.. and get anything positive in return. They do everything they can to get you to sign up, then speak to you like trash once you do.. and of course they purposely make it incredibly challenging to cancel when you've had enough of their gross attitudes. Today I had a very shocking experience. I'm new to the gym and I by accident parked in the owners spot. I did not see that sign. As they were about to tow my car the owner came out and was screaming at me. I apologized and said I was new to the gym. I didn't see the sign. He told me it didn't matter my membership was revoked. Temporarily moved to the area. Needed a new gym. PROs Great gym Great equipment -when I say this I really mean it. This place had equipment I've heard of but never seen. The Westside Barbell reverse leg curl for example Lots of racks. Stuff for CrossFit. Stuff for powerlifting, specialty bars Lots of cardio pieces Nice turf I loved training here. Loved it. If I still lived nearby I'd still be training there That being said: CONs Crowded. Almost from 8 am to 8 pm Maintenance issues. Specifically one or more stair mills were often not working. The GHRs were unusable because of shredded pads. Dirty bathrooms. The men's bathroom always stunk I trained here for 5 months and saw the owner almost every time I was there, he never spoke to me once. The manager would often stand on a chair and start screaming incoherently and even though I saw this 6-7 times I could never understand what she was staying. Other staff was very friendly As far as culture, this was the least friendly gym I've ever belonged to. Up until now Alphalete held that distinction. read more

Went here to sign up for a one month pass. Filled out the info on the ipad and paid the $70 dollars. Afterwards the guy behind the counter told me he needed to make a copy of my drivers license. I asked why, he replied "We need to know who you are.". I asked why, he replied "It is Texas law. I cannot let you in here without a copy of your ID.". The FTC reports over a million cases of identity theft every year. I did feel comfortable letting him make a copy of my ID. I asked if he could refund my money because he did not tell me about the ID requirement beforehand. He said he could not, but he would make a note, and the manager Nikki would call me on Monday. I asked if the manager had a phone number or email I could contact her on. He said she did not, but I could contact her through Instagram. Kinda strange that a gym does not have a contact channel for their managers. When I got home I called back and talked to the same guy. He gave me her email address. I do not know why he told me she did not have one when I was standing there. I sent multiple emails and left voicemails for the manager Nikki. Never got any communication returned. I looked up Texas law. Gyms are governed by the Texas Health Spa Act. There is no such law that requires gyms to keep a copy of a persons ID. Why would they keep copies of peoples IDs and lie about it? Will all of the ID theft these days, I would think they would want to avoid that liability. It looks really shady when the manager refuses to return calls and emails. read more

signed and paid when I walked. we were told there is no contract, but it's go month by month, that it can be canceled anytime. after a while, we have to cancel, due to some change of our situation. called them, was told it have to be in person. so we went to the gym. the front desk said there has to be a certified letter for cancellatio. so, we had to go back home to tyoe a letter to mail to them. called the gym, before going to mail it, the bill gal was unprofessional, and rude. she said the letter has to be notarized and it's up to the manager if he would take our letter without notary. she then hung on us. we checked their policy again, it was stated "in person to sign Eform, or mail a certified letter". why did they kick us back to tell us to mail a letter when we tried to cancel in person? obviously, those workers are not trained/managed professionally, no one is professionally follow the policy. they are rude. read more

The best gym to go to this side of town, and the best gym I've been to across town. Machines are spaced out enough to walk between them comfortably. Huge gym with lots of equipment to choose from. AC which is a must in Texas. No daycare but kid friendly. Meal prep, snacks and drinks for purchase. Sick merch. I signed up for this dump because my son was training nearby at Redline. What a mistake. This is ONE of the most ghetto gyms you'll ever find. I think they procure their weights and machines off Craigslist. Especially the machines, the most clunky, unmaintained monstrosities. Environmental control? Expect the temperature variations to be the exact same as the outdoor weather forecast. For $40 a month you can do much better in the area. They claim to be different that corporate gyms. Oh yeah..... just try and cancel your membership. All the staff lose 100 IQ points when asked about cancellation. Write a certified letter, they say. OK and while I'm in the writing mode, how about an honest review.... read more

BEST GYM IM WVER BEEN TO! Most old school gym yet with some great equipment I have not seen at other gyms in my working out career. I this gym due to the friendly staff, Henry the owner and his wife Cayla, the environment is totally badass, the people there are super friendly and help with your form if you ask them to help you out. By far the BEST GYM in Texas! ALLLLLLLLLSO YOU CAN WORKOUT WITH YOUE SHIRT OFF! Huge reason why I go because most gyms are very rude towards guys not having their shirts off with I think is a huge turndown since we are all here trying to look good naked.... smh at those gyms! Worked out for a $10 drop-in fee. Walked in with no pressure to join. Had a great Powerlifting workout Squats/Bench/Pullups. Clean and has everything needed for a serious lifter. Check out the pictures, plenty of racks, benches, just enough machines, and full range of dumbbells.at least to 120...did not check higher. Two pieces of cardio I saw, just enough to loosen up. For the older guys, reminds me of the weight rooms in the old downtown YMCAs, (except with more, better equipment) in the sense it was no nonsense place obviously for lifters. For the younger guys, you can learn to lift properly here, no silly stunts like you see at the boxes. I will give it the best compliment for a gym...I did not see anyone doing anything stupid! Recommended. Two additional points - there were a few woman working out here. Not just for men. - The bathrooms were large and new. Not locker rooms, but much much better than the dirty closets you find out some warehouse gyms. read more

I've been a part of this gym family now for a year and a half. From day one of sign up they made me feel loved and welcomed into its community. The front desk team always has good energy with laughs and smiles. On my birthday they even remembered what my favorite song was and played it as I walked in and started stretching(you can't find commitment nor treatment like that anywhere). I came from Charleston, SC to Houston, TX for a new job. Everyone knows how hectic that can be between finding housing, restaurants, friends and an awesome gym. Being that I am an avid lifter I wanted the best in Houston and damn if I didn't find it. Henry and his staff took me in with open arms. I feel right at home with this gym. They also have EVERYTHING a gym rat could want and need. This place is great for novices all the way up to full time bodybuilders. By the way they have some MOTIVATING music playing at all times... no need for headphones. This place is the best and I am sold on Legacy Barbell. Henry and staff... keep being awesome. read more

Just about my only complaint is the music, and that isn't all the time. But it seems like 90 per cent of the time I'm there, it's the really stereotyped rap (not even rap in general, just that kind). This gym is my second home. After moving to the area I stuggled to find a gym that really wanted to stand behind me to reach my goals. After finding Henry at Legacy I was done searching.
