I Went to Liberty today to buy some 90% silver walked in guy on my left sitting at his desk didn't say a anything "not hey someone will be right with you nothing. " I walked up to the counter the other employee was with a customer stood there for awhile he finally got up and said are you selling or buying this guy needs someone to teach him customer service skills because he has none. I asked for 90% he said he had some didn't say anything walked away I stood there for a couple minutes and walked over to where he was looking at coins and just said did you have any and he said well I Just purchased them i need to search them I can't sell them until I reach I know that doesn't sound bad but it was the tone and the way he said it . I guess he thought I was a mind reader because he acted like I should know what he was doing when he didn't say anything to let me know he was working on it . So I just said forget it he just says OK and I said better communication would be a good thing. I have purchased around $10K over the last 7 years mostly at their old store but anyway won't go back. A bit of advice don't treat your customers with indifference some won't say anything some will it takes alot to make me mad and bad customer service is at my highest trigger. We went in here one time and only one time. It was during COVID. There were 2 employees and one other customer in the shop. We browsed around while the other customer was being helped. Another customer entered and they helped him. A third entered and was also promptly greeted and helped. After a few we walked up and asked about error coins, there were huge bags of wheat backs on the counter we had inquired about also. We were told the wheat backs weren't available. They told us they usually have a jar of errors out, but with COVID it was put away. We asked to see it and they said no, like why mention it if you aren't willing to allow customers to view them? Then my boyfriend inquired further about the wheat backs. About this time the man sitting at the desk on the back stood up and proceeded to get very vocal telling us no we could not get any bags of wheat backs and that we could just leave. He moved forward toward where we were at the counter in a concerning manor that made my boyfriend feel as if this guy was going to get physical. He said "I see this all the time, people like you come in here!"... We were stunned, you mean like customers?? He said some other things about people like us and then said can't you read? He pointed to a few paper signs taped up that said please limit your visit to 5 minutes! We were in disbelief, they hadn't said a word to us the entire time we were in their until we went to them. Then the guy wants to get loud and aggressive in demeanor while talking about "Our kind". We left there and will never return, though it was a blessing in disguise as the next stop was what has become our absolute favorite coins shop! Harry's Coin just down the road has from day one treated us like family, even though he had nothing to do with it he apologized for the behavior of the guy at Liberty!! ILLEGAL PRACTICE. I just tried buying some gold from these guys. They mark the amount up $80 per ounce. What's illegal is they charge you a 2.5% fee to pay with a card. They do not have a sign letting the customers know. They are adding it onto the bill. Not compliant with visa and MasterCard regulations. These people treated me right! They were friendly and gave me an excellent price for my silver bar. I called around to several dealers and none were as prompt with their answers regarding this transaction. One place said that they would have to slice into the silver bar to make sure it was authentic.....yeah, I don't think so. I came in to sell some silver coins. The first thing I notice is how nice it is inside. The store just radiates profession and class. They have display case everywhere with anything coin and currency related. I was greeted by a man and I told him what I want to sell my silver coins. He checked out all of my coins then checked the current spot price for sliver. He made me a fair offer and the deal was done. Best offer I had gotten anywhere else. I believe there was some paperwork but I can't be sure. I left with cash in hand. Great place, look forward to returning. I have been buying coins from Liberty since we moved to Oregon. They have fair prices and always are willing to fudge a bit when I buy more than I intended. More than anything, I enjoy working with their staff who are honest, fair and knowledgeable about the currency industry. They always do what they can to accommodate when I buy but cannot pick up right away because I might be traveling. I only hope the best for them. Once I brought them home I unsealed to put in my capsules, the coins were in bad shape on the edges, something I couldn't have seen. I brought them back for a return and he offered me spot. Experience in Beaverton store I have been doing business with them for almost a year. Most of the time I visit Beaverton location. Periodically I do check out the main shop in Vancouver. I have never had issues. Customer service from David and Austin at Beaverton is superb. They are very knowledgeable, respectful, and patients toward customers as I saw each time. Particularly they offer customers free evaluation on low/high volume of coins, silverwares, and other items. :) Quite often I have seen same group of customers who are very unreasonable to ask for free stuff or counter-offered with ridiculous price like 50% off or more of the original price but they still remain calm and deal with them in the professional fashion. It is very pleasant place to check out new items every week. For majority of my purchases in this store, I did not negotiate in most cases since I compare their price to other shops and secondary markets. Most of their products are very competitive. Quite often they will offer me very good deals for many of my purchases. Sometimes, they will even go further to call their boss (Tom) to see if they can offer more competitive price. It was wonderful that they went extra miles for some of my purchases. Most of them worked out well and some of them did not. I simply say it's ok and I will put the purchase on hold if the price is still high for the non-purchase items. I will never frequently/aggressively negotiate for items with any dealers/coin shops since I don't want to become a nuisance and ruin the relationship that could have negative impact for disposition of my holdings in the future. Finally, I would like to address couples of negative feedbacks in this review blog. I personally don't find their reviews useful and it appears that their mistakes have become the coin shop issues. Due to the number of words limitation on Yelp. I can only address two examples. One of the reviewers claimed that "Nothing I bought has increased in value even though the market is up." I am not clear on what message does this person try to deliver and not sure what items did this person buy? There is no guarantee that any purchases of mine MUST have upside. Particularly it is on high premium gold and silver coins/rounds/medals. It is similar to the stock market. When I make my decision on acquiring certain stocks, there is no guarantee and they could go either ways. It is my responsibility to understand the items in terms of their premium, current resale value in the secondary markets, buyback value from the coin shops/bullion dealers, popularity/hype of the items in short and long term before making any purchases. I am not clear if this particular reviewer did her/his homework before the purchase. I do agree with her/him on the waiting period of the check. The Beaverton store is a branch that they don't carry much cash in the store. I suspect that all buyback items are processed in the main store in Vancouver. It could be one of the reasons why they have long lead time. You can always call them to confirm their entire process in details. Other reviewer claimed that "Liberty coin and currency does not honor the current spot price for precious metals. When buying from a potential customer, they make up their own spot price. I was offered 16.50/ oz for premium silver bullion bars when the spot price was 17.16/oz. These people are thieves." This review is confusing enough to bring potential false info to the public. It is a common practice in the industry that many local/online coin shops/bullion dealers will have the spread (Bid/Ask prices) from the current spot price. When I purchase any bullion items, it is always based on the Ask price and/or premium. The premium depends on types of coins/items, graded/raw, dates, rarities, survival rates of the coins/items, and current condition. Their bullion selling price in most cases is from the bid price approximately close to spot or lower. It varies by coin shops/dealers. Periodically I do get quote for my holdings with coin shops/dealers(Local and Online). I personally rarely see any dealers/coin shops will buy back any bullion at spot. If you find one, please post their info in this review. For numismatic items, they are all based on the grey sheet with respect to the grade, dates, rarities, survival rates of the coins/items, and the current coin condition. The resale value on most of the numismatic coins/other items to coin shops/dealers are almost close to 30% off from the current guided price. I will certain liquidate my holding through private sales/secondary markets to minimize loss. Takeaway - Understand what exactly we deal with for any potential interests. - Maintain good relationship with coin shops/bullion dealers. - Be respectful to earn trust from each other. - Don't be nuisance to have constant aggressive negotiation or unrealistic counteroffer. I have been collecting coins for 45+ years and have worked with most of the dealers in the area for 35+ year. So, I know the coin market, metals and the fact they have to make money also. But several months ago I took in approx. 45 pcgs graded coins with only 2 less than ms-63 and no proofs less than pr-66 most were pr-69. the total book was $680. Also I had loose coins with 8 morgans (I hadn't sent to pcgs yet) which I booked around another $500. So, $1180. I had expected a fair quote of around $700-$800. After 30-40 minutes of looking and writing everything down and phone calls to others about the coins, the offer came and I was almost floored. Approx. $510. All the morgans were spot priced. After questioning their grading and their pricing the statement "take it or leave it" hit me. I removed the morgans, sold to a dealer down the road for there real price minus of course what he had to make. 2.5x higher than Liberty. I made the deal for the remained to buy another coin at another dealer. I will not go back to sell, I might buy. This whole thing made me feel like a low life going into a pawn shop to sell my stolen items. Instead of a customer selling quality coins for a fair price. Last year, I had a small collection of coins to sell. I gave Liberty and several other coin buyers a detailed list of the coins together with macro color photos of each side of each coin. Liberty emailed back a "bid" of $2599 (excluding 3 small gold pieces that later sold for $90 for all 3) and indicated that the bid "could change slightly" [if they could physically examine the coins.] Believing that these coins were worth many times Liberty's "bid", I continued the search for a buyer and ultimately received a check for over $20,000 for the coins. "Find out what your coins are really worth?" Not from Liberty Coin and Currency!
