Liberty Moving and Storage were terrible from start to finish. I normally wouldn't write reviews but this company was terrible. Also, they just sent out an email to me (and presumably lots of other people) offering a $240 Amazon gift card if I give them a 5 star review on Google, Yelp, and BBB. I felt like I had to get the truth out there because I'm sure some people will just take the money and leave a 5 star review. The moving crews were unprofessional, they showed up late and did not complete the work that we had agreed in advance. They lost several large items of furniture in transit (including two 10 foot x 5 foot mirrors and a sectional sofa). Liberty had insisted we pay an extra $3k for transit of the mirrors (on top of the already expensive moving cost). They offered us $400 in compensation when they were lost. Obviously this didn't cover the cost of the furniture and it was a fraction of the extra cost they charged us for transporting it. It was only when we threatened legal action that they went to the trouble to check the warehouse and found the missing items (several months after we moved). The majority of our furniture was irreparably damaged, including breaking our baby's crib and office desk. Never use them. read more

This company has terrible customer service. We were moving from CA to NYC, and the quoting and pickup were all fine. Pickup was on time and quick (under 2hrs) via a local moving partner (S&M moving). But then we got stuck due to covid and requested they hold our shipment in CA for the time being while we worked out a new local address. 2 months later and after constant follow-up we finally got a quote; $2.5k for pickup and drop off. I thought this was a joke, but looking at the itemized receipt I saw that S&M had charged us 5hr(pickup)+5hr(dropoff), which severely over-inflated the cost. When I called and confronting S&M, I was told they would look into this. Instead, I got a call back from Tom at Liberty and was told the price was the price, "either you do this or you don't". Then I was promptly hung up on. When calling to complain to Tom's supervisor, I got even more attitude. Phrases like "we are doing you a favor", "Tom worked out a better price and saved you $500", and "you owe us, because YOU decided not to move and we had nothing to do with this". Mind you, this is coming from the customer service supervisor/manager. Absolute amateurs with no procedures for these cases. No flexibility, no desire to work with you and act as the voice of the customer. The icing on the cake is when calling back to lodge a formal complaint, the receptionist said that she needed to research who to even file that complaint with, meaning they don't even have a formal complaint department to improve shitty situations that we deal with! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!! I hired them for a personal move from NYC to Putnam County and they will sell you the stars and moons and claim to be the best in the business. Steve Eschebauer booked the move for us and Mary Purcell coordinate the local move. Once the movers arrived, it was clear to us that it would be enough man power to handle the move. The movers SEVERELY DAMAGED OUR BED BEYOND REPAIR. I submitted a claim to get some kind of compensation and because I didn't purchase extra insurance, the company will only refund you $.60 per lb. My bed is a $3,000+ bed and they offered to refund me $180 which was ridiculous. They want you to purchase extra insurance which costs almost the same amount of the actual move. Although Mary offered to help with this problem, the ultimate solution was to send a repair company to "fix" the bed by putting some nails through it. But truth be told, the bed is no longer the same and we are out both a bed and descent amount refund to be able to purchase another one. And to add salt to the wound, they emailed us to say that the bed was reapaired to our satisfaction when in reality the bed is broken beyond repair!!! This company is IRRESPONSIBLE and doesn't care whether your goods are damaged or not after they get paid! THEY ARE HORRIBLE AND I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY EVEN TO MY WORST ENEMY! This was the best move ever ... I have done ~10 moves, including overseas moves which were excellent, but domestically every time there was a problem. NOT this time - I hired Liberty to do everything - packing, moving and unpacking. David did the quote and it was spot on! This is the first time I had a move and there were not extra charges at the end ... David was very professional and honest with the pricing. The crew that did the packing and the actual move could not have been more professional. Karen lead the packing crew and on the day of the move Brian led the crew and there is nothing but the best I can say about them. Also dealing with Marivel in the office was a pleasure because of her on the spot communication from the start, when I signed the contract, to finish when the job was complete. Just canceled my in-home consultation, because the consultant was supposed to be at my home between 12-2. No show, no call. I call the office. They say he's probably between appointments. Okay, but the other movers I screened were able to call and say they were running late. Not Liberty Moving and Storage. Just brush it aside. I told her I wanted to cancel. She said he's probably on his way. I ask why no call. She said he's probably on his way. Still no call. Finally, she asks if I want to cancel, I say yes, so she hangs up on me. This is the cherry on top of a bad process. To start, I filled out the consultation form, received an email to call them. I left a voicemail. No call back. I call back the next day, and thankfully get the person on the phone to schedule. All around, I ain't trusting someone who can't handle basic service to move my belongings across the country if you can't be bothered to answer the phone or make a quick all when you are running late. read more

Moving companies in the area are gouging prices to take advantage of COVID movers and this company takes the cake. I've been quoted double what I think I should (based on prior moves) by most companies but this one quoted me almost 3 times as much and quote an obnoxious number of hours to get the job done. The other companies were at least willing to negotiate. This place was not. This is out of control. Find an honest business to help you move. Ask them for a quote and just walk away when they say it's $2,000 for a studio-worth of stuff to move 2 miles away. read more

We hired Liberty Moving and Storage for our most recent move. The gentleman came to the home, went through the home and we then received a quote for over $17,000. We were moving 5 minutes away. The gentleman went over the contract never ONCE OFFERING TO BUY EXTRA INSURANCE, but according to them I signed off on the contract. Lesson learned to make them sit there while you read the whole document which will take about 3 hours. If I am spending that much to move I would have definitely got the extra insurance for $1000. Time to put in the claims for the multiple broken boxes that looked like they were thrown into the storage locker. I didn't complain at all about the small items but the Frederick Remington statue and the lost box that they misplaced, I was offered .30 cents a pound. Have they lost their minds. I worked with Steve Eschbacher to get a quote for a cross-country move, and out of all of the movers I dealt with (about 6-7 in all) he was by far the easiest to work with. He's fast, detail-oriented, and incredibly professional--a serious pro. He also gave me the lowest quote. I went with another company because the move manager I ended up hiring preferred not to work with a company she didn't have a prior relationship with, but I would have chosen Liberty otherwise. Liberty badly scratched up our hardwood floors and had the audacity to blame the cable guy!!! They made the move from UWS to UES incredibly painful. They claimed they had taken everything from our apt when there were still piles of items. We had to take them ourselves in a cab because they refused to take things that were not in boxes. They started an hour late and took their time loading in the morning to make sure they could squeeze every dollar out of the day. When we arrived at the new apartment my family and new super were forced to participate in the unloading to make sure we got everything in before the co-op's end of day limit of 4:30PM. The bill to refinish the floors they scratched was close to $5,000, over 4x the cost of the move. For what is supposed to be a premium moving company we could not have had a worse experience. Their refusal to cover the cost of the floors is beyond belief as I watched them push heavy furniture across the floor. Use any mover but these crooked guys. read more

This was the first time I have used a moving service, so I don't have anything to compare it to, other than the over 30 times I have moved myself, utilizing the kindness of friends with trucks and bribes of beer. I don't mind telling you that I was literally terrified. The horror stories I've heard are nightmare inducing. I didn't sleep the whole night before the move. I should have slept - it was a piece of cake. This was my process. Maybe it will help another first timer. We were referred to United by our management company. We rent from a national company and this is our 2nd apartment with them, so we all trust each other. Regardless, I sent several inquiry e-mails to various companies that had gotten good reviews from a moving website. It was a last minute out-of-state move, over a holiday, and we own less than 5,000 lbs of stuff, so the lack of response by many companies made the choice easier. There were huge price disparities between the movers that did get back to me, however, and that made me more nervous. Some companies seem to go by distance and some by weight. Some companies insure everything and some will only insure what they pack themselves. Some charge extra for insurance. Some charge for storage and some do not. These are things to consider. Liberty, the agent for United, was not the cheapest, but they reassured me the most and seemed to have a fair policy regarding weight, possible overages, storage and insurance. We were packed and ready to go when they showed up, on time, Wednesday morning. Two very nice men counted our boxes (something that had not occurred to us. Duh) and wrapped our sofas and mattress in plastic and tables and chairs in blankets. They stored it over Thanksgiving and were there at our new apartment Friday morning. Nothing broken. Nothing damaged. I would not hesitate to use them again. Wow, that was a long review, but seriously, I wish I had known some of this stuff before I had started this project. It can be very daunting. I got a corporate relocation, so I didn't choose Liberty, as they were the provider my company gave me. Liberty's staff in NYC was efficient. They came on time and were done in the timeframe provided. They did however use way too much paper to pack everything and the actual packing of the boxes could have been done a lot better. The delivery timeframe provided was a week and my goods were delivered the day prior to the end of their timeframe. The staff on the delivery end were not as professional. Some items were damaged and one box was missing for a month. As for price, the total ended up being almost $1,000 less than the quote, but it was still a lot considering I moved from a NYC studio and didn't ship all of my furniture. I think they could have taken better care of the furniture I did ship, and not used so much paper and separate boxes for everything. Maybe their services are better for shorter moves where your items aren't being moved between a cross country truck and then shuttle trucks. read more

Long distance move from NJ to FL in October 2015. We were quoted around $4k for the move (which was on the lower end of what was being quoted to us (up to $7k in some instances). This was for not much furniture from a 2bed room condo. The guy who did the quote, David was probably the most realistic/honest moving guy I've dealt with. The driver (totally blanking on his name, but he was awesome as was his help on both ends) was held up by the unrealistic flooding in South Carolina on the drive down which was totally understandable. If I remember right, we also tipped them a good amount on both sides b/c of all the care they showed during the move. Only writing this quote after having a not as nice experience down here in Orlando...Don't know why I didn't go w/ these guys again (or their affiliated company here), but wasn't really thinking... read more

NOT A DISASTER, BUT LOTS OF SMALL PROBLEMS Unfortunately - There were problems with our move that are still not resolved. FIrst of all, communication with our move consultant Bob was untimely. He would go days without answering a basic email sent from us, never called to check and see how our move was, and continued to not answer emails in a timely manner when we contacted him regarding the shipment problems. The shipment problems: Several items were broken within the boxes. I did the packing, but I packed them well. I believe the guys were less than 100% careful with unloading - I've moved myself several times and never had anything broken that I have packed. They also took a chunk out of the apartment wall where they were unloading all the stuff. We weren't there for their delivery (we were driving across country) and saw that they even left the chunks of plaster on the floor. They also did not label two items that were not in boxes - a hockey stick and speaker stands. I guess they deduced who's items they were after they unloaded their other customers stuff, drove back to Denver to deliver the hockey stick and stands to our apartment building. While we appreciated the fact that they DID get the items back to our building, it does show that they missed tagging items - probably rule #1 - TAG EVERY ITEM, right? Lastly - We expressly told Bob that we would unpack everything ourselves. We did not want ANY unpacking charges. And we DID unpack everything ourselves - including the mattress which was wrapped tighter than tight and took me 15 minutes to cut through all the layers of plastic. Later - we got a bill including charges for unpacking the TV and the mattress. Very frustrating. Anyway - Good note: Tami from customer service has been very helpful in the process of handling the claim. I will edit this with the results as soon as I know how it turns out. UPDATE: After months of no contact, and thinking our claim was forgotten, Tami finally contacted me and said our claim check was sent out (will have to wait a few days to see if it actually will come to us.) She also said another 15 dollars for the repair of the damage in the aparment would come to us when I sign and return the release form. Good News. But what about the charges for unpacking the mattress and TV?? She said she fought hard to get us a credit for those but UNITED VAN LINES REFUSED TO PAY IT! ARRRRRGH!!!! Why? Because they say they don't have to "by law." Basically they said "F U!" Tami said she WILL issue a check but it will be through Liberty NOT United Van Lines - which brings me to my admonishment to ANY of you looking to hire movers: WHO EXACTLY IS DOING THE MOVING??? WE thought we were hiring UNITED VAN LINES, and actually we were hiring a contracted company LIBERTY MOVING. Very confusing and frustrating situation. I hope I NEVER have to hire movers again. read more

Lots of promises not filled; customer response time is poor. I've moved many times and worked with several moving companies, but all moves were within the northeast. For our move halfway across the country we decided to go with an inter-state, large mover. United Van Lines/Liberty Moving got good reviews. Our sales rep explained that their quote was high (almost twice of smaller movers) because they ensure there are enough crew members at the move delivery. We found this to be a selling point, as we had this problem with a different mover. In the NY side, there were 4 movers, and they were professional and quick, packing our furniture well. When our items arrived, there was a single mover. He advised he would start moving in boxes and others would join him by 1 pm. No one else came, and when we called our coordinator at 2:30 pm, we were advised this was unacceptable. She researched and called back only to tell us that no other movers would be coming due to staffing problems. I advised we were promised something entirely different when we met with the sales rep. She said she would talk to her bosses regarding some kind of refund and would call the next day. She did not call back the next day. As a side point, the one deliver mover informed us he was not qualified to put our furniture back together, even though he did do that as well as move all boxes. So the company did not provide qualified movers as well as not enough movers at delivery. There were other issues with follow up. Our NYC building requires proof of insurance from the moving company, and this is standard procedure. I had to follow up twice to make sure this was completed and sent to the building. I was supposed to get called the day before the move to confirm the time, but I had to call at about 4 pm the day before to confirm the time. We were given a 12 day range regarding when our items would arrive, and were told we should expect it to come closer to the end date. It came exactly on the end date. We called about 6 days prior to the end date to get a status. Our rep was out but the substituting rep did not call back. I had to call back the next day and was promised an answer that day. I did not get a call back. Several boxes were beat up, but the contents were not damages. There were a couple of small nicks (one was larger) on the furniture, but no real damage. In general the movers were fine, even though there was not enough of them at delivery. My point to this company is that they charge more because they claim to provide better service. I cannot say the service is any better (in fact worse, because most other movers I had called back within a day and did not require as much follow up) and so they were not worth the extra money. Their lack of follow up created a lack of confidence and nervousness about the move. I chose this company, larger and supposedly more reputable, in order to avoid these feelings. I have had a long ordeal with Liberty. I have moved many times and always used top moving companies (United, Mayflower, etc..). On this last move I used United and Liberty Moving was assigned. During the packing the movers broke something and tried to hide it by throwing them away and not reporting it on their forms. When asked about it they marked down a single item and acted confused that I wanted it listed on the damaged items form. This should have been a sign. There was some confusion about if city parking permits were included at the destination. I was told, or I believe I was told, that they were but I was then later told that they were not. I said OK, paid for them and thought that would be the end of it. The night before moving day I noticed that the street was not blocked and no permits displayed. I emailed Liberty to give them a heads up. The next morning I hadn't hear anything (I am on the west coast now so they had about 3 hours head start) so I called. The rep told me that "everything is fine" and that "they would not have put them out yet". Both of these were obviously not right. After sometime on the phone I finally get her to check. In the meantime I go looking around and find the permits are on the wrong block, on the other side of a 4 lane road and train tracks. Long story short, I paid $200 for a permit that was useless because they could not unload me and go across 4 lanes of traffic and train tracks. I negotiated with the building next door to use their loading dock because Liberty wouldn't do anything to resolve the issue. As of today, they refuse to refund the $200 stating that it is not their problem. read more

Moving person yelled at my 86 year father and badmouthed Liberty...he works for Liberty. He also did quite a bit of damage in the house. They kept changing times and amount of workers. Most unprofessional movers I have ever worked with. I give them a 0. 3 months later I am still dealing with them trying to get paid for damages in the house. While the packers and movers were fine and showed up on time for pick-up, the delivery date has now been delayed by several days -- despite the fact that I discussed the importance of timely delivery with the rep -- because Liberty screwed up the transport assignment, NOT because of weather or any other understandable reason. This started with the rep, who was full of himself and talked way too much (about himself) and made promises that I now know he obviously couldn't honor. I'm SO sorry I didn't listen to my instincts. We hired this company based on good referrals and because we were told that our requested delivery date was "no problem." We also hired them IN SPITE OF the rep (who was super obnoxious), not because of him. Don't trust these people. read more

We used Liberty moving for a fairly large move this past week and we couldn't have asked for better service. They came out and gave us a free estimate and were the only company who included a full (and accurate!) inventory list. They weren't the cheapest estimate we received, but it seemed to be the most fair policy with insurance and possible overages. Our agent, Rich, was very timely getting back to me about booking and was very detail oriented about the whole situation. He was clear about payment methods and set out a schedule for me (which was very accurately executed). He even called during the move to make sure that everything was going well as did another guy from the company, I believe his name was Tom. He was great as well. As for the movers, the packing team came the first day and arrived about 5 minutes early. They were very polite and timely with their work. I can say the same for the moving team. They were always on time and worked very efficiently. I always felt at ease leaving them with my things! I even called and requested that they send the same crew for the whole move (took about five days...) All in all, it was a great moving experience with Liberty and I would definitely recommend them to anyone. read more

I am updating my review to a 3 because after my initial post on yelp someone finally responded to my phone calls. They did refund some money which I did appreciate. Still giving them a 3 star review because it was a hassle and pain to go back and forth with first marketing sales managers etc. Like.i said- actual movers were fantastic on time.but the administrative part of it is terrible. Quick to get you to sign the paperwork but non existent when you are trying to reach people for customer service. read more

I was a bit apprehensive about using Liberty because the reviews on Yelp were not very favorable. This company was recommended to me by another moving company in the Detroit area. Liberty called to set up an appointment for an estimate (8-10am on a weekday). I made a point of rearranging my schedule to be at home. Nobody showed up. At 10:30am I called the person who'd made the appointment and left a message. At noon the following day another company representative called to say that nobody had written it into the book.
