I needed a routine mammogram and this is the place that I was sent to. It is a drive away from me though. Parking was limited and It was full when I came, so I drove to the next building and they have a lot of parking spaces. Good thing I came early. I had plenty of time for my appointment. Upon entering the building I can tell that they were busy. The waiting area is full and people are coming in to check in as well. The lady who checked me in Is nice and I waited a while to be called. I went to the area for the mammogram and wooh - there were like 10 ladies waiting. Carina is the Radtech who helped me. She is nice, gentle and polite. She made sure that I was calm and asked if I have any questions. The procedure was fast and Carina mentioned that I will get the results within 5 days.

Always very nice and helpful. Easy MRI experience. The technician explained everything and took great care.

The mammogram (including the enhanced imaging) took maybe 10 minutes total, and I was walking out the door by 8:18am.

I also appreciated that the receptionist was able to work me in to the schedule, when my physician's office called for an appointment for me on that morning. In fact, she found an appointment for me on the same day. It is a well-run office.

My cardiologist told me to get a scan here and he said, "you shouldn't pay more than X" I don't…read moreremember the exact amount but i got the impression that they had some sort of sliding rate scale... that kind of threw me off but I figured maybe they give a break to people who are paying out of pocket and they did, in fact, charge me on the less-expensive side. But the part that impressed me a lot was that I called back about three months after I got the scan (talked with Christina) and asked for a copy of the report and asked if they could burn me a CD or give me a digital file with the actual imaging from the test I had done and got none of the BS that you would expect. You know what I'm talking about... needless bureaucracy and resistance. I was expecting "oh, we can only give the results to the doctor that ordered the test". I was expecting "that will be $50 for the copies and we need two weeks to make them" I was expecting "sorry, we only keep files for two months" or "I need to talk to my boss" or "state laws only permit us to..." But Christina (and I think maybe the other girls in the office are like this, too) is casual and pleasant and maybe just wants to be nice to her customers (pretty weird for a medical office!) and says "Oh, hi, I remember talking to you on the phone. Give me three minutes." Three minutes later (3!) she handed me a CD and a copy of the report. I said, "Do I owe you anything?" and she says (get this!)... "No". There were three or four girls behind that tiny front desk and they all seemed to be multi-tasking. The phone was ringing off the hook, they were all talking at once, phone cords were wound around their necks and the fax machine was smoking... kind of a controlled chaos. And Christina just looks at me and smiles and says "give me three minutes". I know you shouldn't give someone kudos for just being normal and nice to a customer... but it seems like it's becoming more and more rare.

I've spent enough time in hospitals over the years to know that kindness can sometimes feel like a limited resource. Walking into West Hills Hospital, I honestly expected good medical care. What I didn't expect was to meet one of the most compassionate, respectful, and genuinely invested medical teams I've ever encountered. Dr. Namavar, the nurses, the social workers--every single person we met treated not only our family, but our loved one struggling with addiction, with a level of dignity and respect that frankly brought us to tears. Addiction carries so much stigma, yet not once did anyone make him feel like "just another addict." They saw a human being. That matters more than words can express. Our family had a very specific plan to safely transition him from the hospital directly into a rehabilitation facility. Every concern we had was heard. Every request was taken seriously. The team coordinated with the rehabilitation center, communicated with us every step of the way, and made sure nothing slipped through the cracks. Instead of making us feel like difficult family members, they made us feel like partners in his care. Then there was Dr. Namavar. I've met a lot of physicians. I've never met one quite like him. He sat down--not because he had to, but because he wanted to--and shared his own personal experiences with loss and drug overdoses. He wasn't reading from a script or giving a lecture. He was connecting with another human being. You could actually see the walls come down in the room. It was one of the most genuine moments I've ever witnessed between a physician and a patient. To the nurses: thank you for treating us like family. To the social workers: thank you for fighting just as hard for the next step as you did for the one we were in. To Dr. Namavar: thank you for reminding us that medicine is as much about the heart as it is about science. And finally... this is probably the weirdest compliment I've ever written, but if life ever decides to throw another medical emergency my way, I sincerely hope it has the courtesy to happen somewhere near West Hills Hospital. That's how much confidence you've given me. You didn't just care for a patient. You cared for an entire family. Thank you for giving us hope when we needed it most.
