Liberty Rock Tavern is a craft bar & grill that opened in Milford, Connecticut in October 2016. It was founded by friends Dan Rizzo, Brian Kearney, Dan Kardos and Chris Hey. The location had previously been home to the King's Court restaurant. Kearney (a bartender) and Kardos (a chef) had previously worked there, while Rizzo and Hey were customers there. When the owners of King's Court were looking to sell the location, Kearney approached Rizzo with the idea of opening their own restaurant. Rizzo has a background in marketing while Hey manages accounting. The focus of the menu is primarily craft burgers, crispy chicken sandwiches, tacos, wings, and other various pub food staples. They also feature an impressive craft beer selection. I was recently at Liberty Rock Tavern for a fundraising event for the Closer To Free Ride. After scanning the menu, I decided to order the Bada Bing Bird: a crispy chicken sandwich with pesto, provolone, roasted red peppers, prosciutto and balsamic vinegar. It was delicious!!! It paired really well with a couple of cold craft brews. Liberty Rock also has a food truck which visits breweries and other various locations around the state. While visiting Tribus Beer Company a couple of years ago, Liberty Rock was the food truck that day. I ordered their Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich (with crispy bacon, ranch, B&B pickles, pickled Jalapeños, and American cheese) with a side of Waffle Fries. @ meadowlands music theater for Wu Tang concert and ordered the "3 jumbo tenders and fries" for $18. Customer service was good, but EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED when I received my dish to find that the "jumbo tenders"to be regular tenders and the insides mostly breading with fake chicken in the midst The fries were blazing, which was their saving grace. It was our first visit/experience here. So, from the outside it isn't very welcoming, however when you walk through the door you are so pleasantly surprised. Extremely festive with tasteful Christmas decorations. We decided to sit at the bar to get a better feel. Caley first welcomed us. Very professional and friendly. We ordered a drink and looked over the menu, which is limited, but she recommended the mac n cheese, so we tried it. It was a 4 out of 5. Very nice, creamy and good. We also had the privilege of meeting Brittany (one of owners) and Mike (bartender). All were very helpful In recommending other restaurants to try and just genuine conversation. The bar is decorated so well for Christmas, offers true darts, and table shuffle board. On our very first visit we were treated like long term regulars. Go with complete confidence. Rooted on our UConn Huskies for March Madness at Liberty Rock Tavern tonight! We loved the intimate feel of this sports bar. The menu is on the smaller size, but has great offerings and is suitable for the space the building holds. Our order: -We took advantage of the half off wings special for Sundays. The wings were a good size and we enjoyed the blue cheese. -Brussel sprouts: piping hot! And a HUGE portion size. These are a saucier style (loved the maple flavor) as opposed to crispy. Definitely recommend. -Buffalo Cauliflower: Just the right amount of kick and perfectly roasted. We loved the ranch dipping sauce. Also definitely recommend. -We had to try the O.G. Chicken sandwich as it appears to be the menu staple. The edges could have used some more sauce, but the middle bites of the sandwich were juicy! Loved the pickles, bacon, ranch, and American cheese flavor combo. -Side of onion rings, was served with honey mustard. Not overly greasy, had great flavor. Service was great, we loved the music but wish we could have heard more commentating from the basketball games. We were frustrated at times with the use of their plastic utensils... we often were fighting with our veggies as they slid off of our forks, but understand how the plastic utensils aligns with their popular food truck. We left feeling VERY full and took some wings to go. There were quite a few parties for a Sunday night, and their take out business seemed steady. Hosted a birthday party and the bartender Michael and owner Chris were great from start to finish. The food and drinks were outstanding (made into platters for us) and everyone enjoyed the space. Definitely recommend for large groups but will be back for a cozy night at the bar. read more

Decided to give this place a try since the original restaurant we were planning to go to down the street was too crowded. I was a little skeptical when we first walked in but was pleasantly surprised. We ordered barbecue dry rub wings to start, which were delicious! They were crispy on the outside and juicy inside. For a meal we both ordered the honey badger sandwich, which was also very good! I wasn't sure about the combo of ingredients, mostly the apple jam, however we were very pleased. Similar to the wings, the chicken was crispy outside and juicy inside. The service was friendly and the atmosphere was laid back and relaxed. I was really surprised at the quality of the chicken sandwiches and fried fish tacos. Also the old school Nintendo games that can be played on the wide screens on the wall was a great addition to entertain both the kids and the adult-children. We had just one bartender waiting on us for a small family gathering/event and she did a great job of getting drinks and helping us out if we need anything. We met friends for a quick dinner at the Liberty Rock Tavern in Devon. Parked behind the tavern and were promptly seated at a window seat. Their drink's menu is vast as well as is the choice of beers. In contrast, the food Menu is rather limited however each item that the four of us ordered was simply outstanding. Of note, their French Fries are very similar to those found in Belgium, known as Pom Fritz. The fries appear to be double fried as you would find in Holland or Belgium and those served at The Rock are out of this world. I had their signature offering, which is the Southern Fried Chicken sandwich and my wife had their similarly famous Burger. We were both delighted. Our guests had the Italian sausage and Broccoli Rabe sandwich and the hot dog. I was given a "taste of each" and both were again a credit to the chef. I had a Burbon Manhattan and they serve it with those dark delicious Italian drunken cherries... A great touch. Being on a diet recently, I wish they offered a salad but they did not. I would suggest that they do add a salad to the menu with a choice of optional meat add ins. Just a suggestion. The clientele seemed very friendly and they were playing Pandora on a nice sound system with a nice vibe of 1970's and 80's rock. Nice. We will be coming back again, and again. I dig this place. My husband and I have been coming here since it's opened, and we have never been disappointed... until tonight. It has really gone downhill. My husband and our friend both ordered the burger- their orders were fine. I ordered the Honey Badger and my sandwich was cold and looked like a slice of cheese was literally just thrown on the sandwich (still cold). Not to mention, the bathrooms were beyond unsanitary as one of the toilets had what appeared to be dried vomit on the side of the bowl. The bathroom itself also smelled of urine. Needless to say, this seems as if it is the forgotten restaurant out of the few that the owner has opened, and would definitely not qualify as a recommended spot on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. read more

Ok. The first impression was pretty bad. I will likely give them a free pass and try again sometime but this was my experience. We walk in and the place is super busy at 9ish on Thursday night (yay! good for them). We try to sit at the bar and two different patrons were uncooperative to shift so my friend and I could both sit together. Another witnessed this and helped us get seated (he rocked). As far as I could tell there were only two gals on staff slinging drinks. They were slamming but didn't bother to make eye contact or otherwise acknowledge us. After all of the people around us were served including the folks who walked in at the same time we did and still no hello, eye contact or we'll be right with you. (Plus we should've been hard to miss sitting behind the beer taps they were both using filling pints). Then both ladies walked out to run drinks to tables. We likely would've waited for service had someone even bothered to look at or greet us, but that didn't happen. We didn't receive any service and decided to leave. I hope they get more staff on or more experienced staff if it is a case of inexperience. I will give them some time to settle and work the bugs out and try again, but my first impression was that we were left feeling unwelcome by both patrons and staff. read more

I need to preface the review by stating i would frequent this establishment when it was known as kings court. King court had cheap beer, bud light draft, and cheap bar food with generous portions. They also used proper plates and cutlery. The taverns food was good, and the renovation looks great, however I was off put by everything else. I started off with the chili fries which were rather small for the price and served in a 7in aluminum foil tin. To eat said fries I was handed a paper plate and wooden cutlery, not real wood, the kind the Italian ice spoons are made from. The lobster sandwich was really good, and a nice size, but for $16 you expect more than a plastic plastic basket and a micro size bag of Doritos. The food was great, but the experience is disappointing. I alfound it odd that the owners were clearly at the bar but not checking in and engaging the customers. Most, if not all new places go above and beyond to greet and talk to guests in efforts to create a positive experience. read more

My wife and I went here about half a dozen times over the past couple months since moving to the area. Great, neighborhood bar overall. Unpretentious, friendly staff and atmosphere. Attentive service and solid bar food. Clientele were all friendly too, which although isn't a direct review of the bar itself, really made all our visits pleasant. All of that said, we haven't been back in over a month. My wife's a vegetarian, and they really don't offer much for people who don't eat meat. At one point they had Mac n cheese, but the menu rotates, and they don't seem to make sure to always offer some meat-free entrees. If that's not a concern for you, it's a great place to grab a beer and burger, hang out with friends, or watch a game. If they ever do offer more meatless options, we'll be regulars again. read more

One of my favorite places. It's bar food, but really tasty bar food. They're always switching up their drink menus and food menu so there's always new stuff to try. Really not sure about the hype of this place with the 5 star reviews. It's nicely renovated from the previous business, but yet very much the same. VERY small menu, of barely mediocre food-that was quite disappointing. Than food was served on paper plates, that's ok for take out hot dogs, turn off for sit down place with a $70 bill. Specialty drink menu showed some interesting options, but watching the restaurant staff I seriously doubt they could execute the drinks to be worth it. $70 we got loaded tater tots, a dry chicken sandwich, and some so-so sliders. Probably better off at the diner with nippers in our pocket! PLUS a mylocal deal up, that when you try to buy says invalid.... that should have been our first clue to stay home and not waste our time or money here. read more

Overall my experience at this restaurant was mediocre at best. I was very disappointed by the limited food options on the menu. As for the taste I chose from the "overwhelming" selection and had the cheesesteak. I think I needed to be on "Shrooms" for this sandwich to impress me.
