It's a Syrian Cafe , I am Assyrian, but our traditional foods are very similar and extremely delicious, if I do say so myself. Small strip mall restaurant run by a family that cares about their guests and the quality of their food. Fresh salads, produce, dressings and sauces compliment well prepared meats and main dishes. They take cooking seriously, and they do the same in taking care of visitors. My wife has some health related dietary requirements, and the owner came out himself to work out what she could have, then kindly checked in with us to make sure it was all good. I really like this place. It's been months since I've been here. Several in fact. It's October 2020 and I haven't been there since January February 2020 So this is pre covid. The restaurant was clean. The owner brought me over some lamb to taste for next time. It was delicious. They have the big meat thing that they slice it off from per order. The following time I went i was going to order it but they didn't have the meat that they'd slice. They had it pre sliced and they were going to hear it up. No thanks. I'm having trouble starting my review of the Olive Tree because I'm eating leftovers from my dinner there, and it's just so delicious I can only concentrate on the bowl in front of me. If you are a fan of Mediterranean food, or are a vegetarian, or you just want to have something that's freshly made and tasty, you must give Olive Tree a try. It's in the kind of small shopping center that you are likely to pass by without even noticing it, and that would be a shame. There are a large variety of side dishes, mostly consisting of different kinds of rice and grains, in a glass case right up front that you can order A la carte, or combine with other items on the menu, and they're all so fresh, as is everything they serve here. If you order a hot dish, such as chicken, lamb, kofta or falafel, it is prepared right in front of you. You can mix and match anything they serve in either a bowl, pita or wrap. Oh my god. I can't believe how amazing this place is, and I owe it all to a recommendation of a Yelp review for telling me about it. It's in an area of Milford I haven't been to before. First time going there ever today and dove right into the chicken shawarma and falafel. The chicken shawarma sandwich was off the charts. The savory chicken and freshness of the veggies wrapped up in a grilled wrap. The falafel was hot and good. I ordered hummus to go which was creamy, smooth and savory. The hummus is on par with Zahara in West Hartford. There are only 4 tables so be aware. I will be going back, probably within a few weeks because it was that good. Great service. I eat at Olive Tree 6-10 times a month. It's exactly the same, every time. That's hard to do when it's all made in house. It's always so good. Try the hummus spicy. Try the baba ganoush. The falafel are prefect. Really, it's all so good. The gang behind the counter are great. Treat you like you're family. There's only a few tables, most people do take out. I've been to the Olive Tree a few times but it's been several years since the last visit. Today I ordered takeout and was very disappointed in the food. A lot has changed since the last time I ate here. I ordered the Falafel, Syrian Salad, Chicken Shawarma Wrap and Lamb Shawarma Wrap. First, the Falafel are still great. They have the perfect texture and spice and are cooked perfectly. They are the only reason for a 3 star, the sandwiches barely deserve 1 star. The Syrian Salad was good however At $7.99 I thought it was very expensive and not really worth it. Now the Chicken Shawarma Wrap was a complete disaster. It was a soggy wet mess that fell apart and was almost impossible to eat. The ironic part is the chicken was so dry and overcooked it was worse than shoe leather. The taste also seemed old as if the sandwich was sitting there for a few days. It had a strong smell of burnt residue. It went right in the trash. Terrible is the only word that comes to mind. The Lamb Shawarma Wrap was only slightly better. It wasn't quite as soggy as the other wrap but the taste was just off. It didn't taste fresh and had a very strong cinnamon taste. It also had the same scent of burnt residue or charcoal. It too went in the trash. Several years ago the food at Olive Tree was outstanding. Today, I think I'd only go back for the Falafel and skip everything else. read more

Hands down the best lamb gyro I've ever tasted. We had stopped in Milford on our way home from Boston. Glad we chose this restaurant. The staff prepare the food "authentically". This place is the real deal. I'm out here visiting family and called the restaurant ahead of time to ask if the falafel was fresh. I've been to places that keep it under a heat lamp and it's not the same. Ziad gave me an enthusiastic, "Of course! Always fresh!" That was the right answer! We ordered falafel, shawarma, some salads along with hummus and babaganoush. Everything tasted like it was made from scratch and very fresh. I grew up eating this food and no one made it better than mom and my aunts and some uncles. But this was the best falafel I've had. I'm serious. And the hospitality made us feel like we were family. Their baba ganoush was simply amazing - smoky, smooth, and just delightful. Falafel was delicious and the lamb skewer was cooked to perfection. One thing to note, though, is that they are primarily a take-out restaurant and only have four tables to eat at with plastic utensils and carry-out containers. Phenomenal food, phenomenal service, and amazingly convenient. Went there today for lunch with my mother and was blown away by the customer service. The guy behind the counter was incredibly friendly and nice to deal with. He even offered us samples of Falafel and another dish made on pita bread with this zesty flavorful seasoning while we waited for our food. We ordered chicken shawarma platters and the size of them was more than generous and very filling. The cucumber yogurt sauce was fresh and the Syrian salad was incredibly authentic. The prices are fair, the food is fresh, and it's local. What more can you ask for? Disappointed, this place has gone downhill, they don't make fresh anymore. I always loved the food here, and the guy who most often helped me was friendly. Last night I went in for a Greek salad with falafels, and the salad was in the case. First of all, the lettuce was romaine, so many hard, white parts to remove, there was no onion, the grape leaves were eh, and the olives were regular, canned black olives! I did get a small container of feta that was good, and I will say that the falafels were tasty. But I used to watch them being cooked, now it's all pre-made. When I got home I added my own onion and kalamata olives, so it wasn't just a tossed salad. One more thing, going back to the friendly guy that used to be there, the new owner has a personality like a dead fish. I wasn't sure whether he wanted my business, or not. read more

Great middle-eastern cuisine. Real lamb here too! I recommend the Lamb Gyro or the Lamb and Hummus Platter. They offer all the menu items with grilled chicken too. They have the authentic vertical rotisserie for the Lamb so it's cooked the right way. Fresh-cooked Lamb slices to order. Falafel balls and stuffed grape leaves are awesome sides. The woman working the cash register was such a miserable person so rude,disrespectful and aloof. Portions size and quality vary with the same entrees from person to person. They skimped on my lamb while my other friend had a lot but it was burned. Overall the food was good considering everything else was bad but mostly the service was awful. The falafel was very greasy and not golden brown. We thanked and were very friendly with that woman but got nothing back in the way of friendliness.
