I would like to caveat this sad review of a New Jersey institution with the fact that their customer service remains awesome and incredibly inviting and the reason why I and my company will likely come back despite of our recent experiences. Soo here it goes. You would think that a place claiming to serve authentic Italian food would be able to make basic Italian dishes worth a damn. The answer is no. On the last two occasions I tried their pasta puttanesca and their carbonara. Both fundamental dishes have failed to reach the quality of a truck stop Olive Garden. Uninspired canned tomato sauce or cream instead of appropriate basic ingredients. Puttanesca poor quality ingredients are simply buried with a heap of canned tomato sauce. It was bland and flavorless disaster! Seafood could be smelled tables away. I smelled it coming back after leaving the table. It was bad tasting and embarrassing! Their carbonara was just as bad. basically canned Alfredo sauce instead of traditional egg based sauce. A sad approximation that sacrifices flavor in favor of cooking convenience. It took me a week to put this review together because it took that long to recover from this culinary disaster. Dear Libretti's Please do better! read more

Been to Libretti's many many times the restaurant has a nice, old-fashioned ambiance The food is solid. dont think you will ever be disappointed large menu option and reasonably priced The service is attentive and on point there is a separate bar area if you'd like to have a cocktail or simply wait for the rest of your party to arrive. It's a good place for couples or groups On the weekends they have live entertainment and karaoke. Im not a big fan of this type of environment when I am dinning . hence the 3 star's and the neighborhood leaves much to be desired . read more

This the greatest place on earth!!! I threw my parent's surprise 70th birthday party here and everything was perfect. Danny the owner is by far one of the sweetest men in the world. I cannot thank him enough for his help, love, care and understanding. I could not have picked a better place to have such a monumental party. Everyone raved about the food!! The salmon, chicken and veal were the perfect choices! The potatoes were out of this world!! The broccoli was cooked to perfection. I mean I don't know what else to say. Good standard Italian food that is consistent year after year. Everything on the menu is done right, and they do a very nice job of mixing in a variety of specials. The service is attentive and on point, and Danny--the owner--does a very nice job of making his presence known, while making everyone feel welcome and comfortable. The surrounding neighborhood is not the best, but this restaurant has maintained its level of excellence over the course of time, making it a destination location that I'm certain to hit a handful of times a year. It's a great place for couples, groups and private parties, as they have a couple of private rooms on premises that can handle larger parties. When you enter the restaurant, there is a separate bar area with an offset lounge you can relax in if you'd like to have a cocktail or simply wait for the rest of your party to arrive. On the weekends (and some weeknights) they have live entertainment and karaoke. I've been going for 30 years, and have never had a bad meal. Pasta, chicken, seafood, meat, everything is done right. Really 3.5 stars but I'll round up - the restaurant has a nice, old-fashioned ambiance inside, even though the neighborhood leaves much to be desired. That being said, I've gone to Libretti's twice and never had a problem with leaving my car in the parking lot. This is solid Italian food. From time to time I love myself a good BOGO deal for oily, buttery pasta at Maggiano's, but once in awhile a girl just wants well-seasoned, well-cooked Italian cuisine prepared in a less 'American' way. Libretti's a good option with its large menu option and reasonably priced wine. Their Chianti goes well with their sauce-heavy entrees. The price for entrees range from around 14 for pasta dishes and upwards of 36 for steak or seafood entrees, so it's not a place I'd go to regularly - maybe when I want to treat myself (or in my case when I have a Groupon). read more

I first saw librettis from the train window as i went by one night in the early 90's. We started eating there and loved it. Sadly, things have changed. Mediocre food. that's all there is to it. You can feel and taste the corners being cut in every way. Maybe they're just trying to make ends meet. a declining client base may make it very tough. Just had lunch today with my boss and another colleague. It was my first time coming here and I have to say I really love this restaurant. The staff are very friendly and accommodating, the menu is great and I love the wine list, you can get an inexpensive quality bottle or one of the more show off bottles. They have a nice bar lounge area when you first walk in and the dining room is cozy yet, spacious. We shared the seafood salad and cold anti past which was fresh and delicious I had the egg plant Parmesan which was arguably one of the best I've ever had. read more

We were a party of 6 on a relatively slow evening. We shared 4 appetizers but passed on any dessert. Everything was very good or excellent. Eggplant parmigiana, shrimp fra diavolo, calamari and veal piccata were among the choices. Service was very good. With ample nearby off street parking and fairly easy access to route 280, Libretti's is a wise choice. read more

When my party arrived, it took the bartender at least 5 minutes to acknowledge us. When we mentioned we were here for a birthday party, the older lady behind the bar waived and said "I don't see a reservation for you but your probably in the back". My party of 12 arrived at 7:30. It took the waiter quite some time to take our orders and bring our drinks to our table. At a little over 9, I had to inquire on where our food was and asked if someone could come and clear our table and refill our water. There were other parties that came in after us and received their food. This was my first time patronizing this establishment and I must say this will be my last time. It's unfortunate but I can't say I felt welcomed. Our waiter , Elmer May have been new however he wasn't very attentive to our party at all. I had been searching for a good carbonara pasta dish ever since returning from Europe. I ordered the linguini carbonara hoping to re-experience that texture and taste. They came close on taste but the dish was too creamy and soupy like they doctored up an Alfredo. The effort was there but the experience left me wanting to hop a plane back to Europe. If more restaurants near me offered a true carbonara I wouldn't have to scour food network for recipes and make my own. It takes skill to make a true carbonara without scrambling the eggs. read more

I've been here a few times and the food was excellent to say the least. Staff is usually attentive and never an issue. So, I have colleagues in town and decided this would be a good place to host them. After nearly an hour drive to get there (as I said, between the food and staff, it's worth the drive), things slowly started to unravel. Initially we were the only people in the place. 2 of the 6 got water, the other glasses stayed upside down until we asked again for water which translated into the busboy dropping off a pitcher of water on the table and leaving. Appetizers, a fried mozzarella and a cold antipasto salad, pasta fagioli and a seafood salad. Soup arrived, few minutes later the mozzarella arrived. Few more minutes the seafood salad, no cold antipasto. Waiter shows up, asks how everything is going while placing the complimentary bruschetta on the table. I knowingly ask if that's the cold antipasto to get him moving but to no avail. We finish everything and are sitting there and the waiter walks back over to see if we want anything. My colleague asks about the antipasto and he says oh yeah, let me check. A few minutes later that arrives. Shortly after that my entree arrives, no one else's. Then, a few minutes later two orders of fried calamari arrive on a tray, one for another table and apparently one for us. Complimentary? No, a possible mistake. A few more minutes two more meals. A few minutes more two more. All but one have been delivered. We wait and then decide to eat. The waiter shows up and asks if we are happy with our meals. We tell him we are still one short, calamari fra diavolo. We start to eat and 5 minutes later the fried calamari shows up again. We explain that this isn't what was ordered and he goes back to the kitchen. When the waiter comes back from the kitchen we tell him to cancel the order given we are halfway through our meals. He says that they began to start the cooking but he'll let them know. When all said and done, there's nothing taken off our check for the mishap, and he says yeah, sorry for the confusion. $68 (without tip) later for a soup, seafood salad, a chicken dish and a martini and a missing main course. The worst part of the whole situation is hosting out of town colleagues, building up this place and then having complete disorder throughout the meal, a total embarrassment on my part. Having the bus boy deliver my food with his thumb in my pasta wasn't impressive either. For the investment to commute there from Englewood and then having the service being so disorderly (food not arriving together, asking repeatedly for the appetizer, no basic water service, wrong meal delivered twice without one person actually eating their meal) there should have been some management intervention. This is why restaurants close. Will be a hard sell to get me back to this restaurant in the future. read more

Went back to Libretti's again last week. Back up to their old standards and very very good. Although they still serve the "flattened donut" bread (that I don't really like), they did bring the delicious, sliced, toasted Italian loaf when I asked. Went here for my sister's grad. school graduation dinner. The service was good & the staff was very friendly. They had a vast selection of both food & wine to choose from. After ordering appetizers, we were given a complimentary bruschetta. The meals were extremely delicious, but very big. We recently went to Libretti's for a family function. It was our first time and everything was great. We were early, so we sat in the bar/lounge and enjoyed looking at all the old photographs on the walls. The party was in a banquet room, elegantly decorated. There were plenty of appetizers going around. Dinner was sit-down; most of us had the chicken Francese (complemented with potato & vegetable) which was delicious! Prices were reasonable for a high quality Italian restaurant with class. this is not a pizza joint it is a formal restaurant and it was delicious. the portions were HUGE definately enough food for two people which the waitress said they knew and that is why on the menu its an additional five dollars if you split the entree with another person. the entree platters are plentiful and delicious. . I brought my 9 year old daughter with me and was NOT expecting the dim lighting and the muted ambiance which was a romantic note to the restaurant and for couples or first going out couples. Don't be alarmed by the neighborhood, this place is an institution and well worth it. The entrance opens to a bar where a true Jersey boy is singing karaoke with a roomful of what seemed like loyal patrons. The bar was adorned with lights and festive for the holidays. We started with the chopped salad (a must) and the fried calamari. It was cooked perfectly and came with two marineras, one spicy, one not. Our appetizers came out almost immediately. Our entrees unfortunately took about an hour... I wish the courses were better spaced out, but I chalk it up to a very busy night. I ordered the ziti, it was amazing!
