    Chicken franchese

They are popular, a 90min seating limit outside and a big lot to expand to if they need more space. Lots of space heaters outside and seating inside if you're vaccinated. Enter though the open back space that faces the forest area and you get seated by the host. It's warm today and there are hornets all over so be careful if allergic, constant interruption to the meal. For an Italian restaurant, they have surprisingly little in the way of pasta dishes (different part of Italy perhaps?) which I was looking forward to trying a short rib cavatelli or something similar. I ended up having to settle for the chicken franchese special and it disappointed; the chicken was cooked a little too long, pasta was too soggy, well past al dente, and the color brightly yellow which was disturbing and suggested food coloring as the butter flavor went lacking. The chicken Milanese was better as a salad plus chicken though the other diners gave up on the onions, guess a bit too strong. Bread in the table was good, but butter was rock hard and too tough to spread, no olive oil and vinegar in sight. After lunch coffee, out of there cups, two had coffee all over the side due to sloppy pours, could have been wiped off nicely before giving to us, but a lack of detail here. Ditto the water glass which was dusty possibly from being outside. Left feeling unsatisfied. Will have to try a burger next time, next door seemed to have the right idea there. Most of the crowd was in the older age, guess a weekday noontime is mostly a retirees crowd here or from the local elderly care home.

My family lived in Livingston for many years, passed by this place countless times and moved out of Livingston but have never been to Nero's. We decided to give it a try for my mom's 73rd birthday. I was a little nervous because the mixed reviews. First, it's a beautiful establishment with both indoor and outdoor seatings. Second, the service is great. I made a reservation for today but for some reason it was put in for next Sunday. They quickly put a table for us for 9 people. Now the food, it is decent but I do agree with other reviews that for the price you pay, it could be better. We asked for medium rare for our ribeye but it was well-done. We told the waitress and she was very nice and cool about it and they made us new ones. When you didn't do it right the first time, you do it very right the next time and they did. We all enjoyed the calamari a lot and the kids liked the pizza. We also brought a cake and they were nice to bring it out and give us plates and silverware even when they have a full house. Overall, it was a good dining experience.

Service is great, owner is nice, but food is SALTY! Not as fancy as the outside would lead you to believe (which is good).

The staff gave ample time for my family and I to say our hello's before greeting us with drink options. Upon sitting down our server brought us fresh bread and butter with flakey sea salt on top. For appetizers we had The Ralph Piccolo Pizza, Ricotta Crostini, Cacio E Pepe Fries, and Prosciutto Di Parma. All were insanely incredible. Great flavor, crispy where it needed to be crispy, soft where it needed to be soft. For my entree, I had the Crest De Gallo Pasta. The pomodoro sauce was on the savory side. It was a set menu and I am vegetarian, it was my option. It was good! I would love to return to try the Spicy Vodka Sauce Rigatoni. I am a spice lover. For dessert I had the most wonderful, rich, smooth chocolate mousse. The dish was called The Chocolate Spuma. It came with crumbled pistachios and fresh raspberries on the side of it. The flavors and textures together were perfect. The staff were so kind, had great humor, and fabulous manners. They held themselves very professionally. The head server for the event and the manager were lovely. I just had to pull the manager to the side and compliment all. I live 1.5 hours away but I would gladly book a weekend trip up to Maplewood, just to eat here again.

The food is seriously better than ever. I actually think the pizza is even better at this new spot than the previous location. The sleeper favorite for me is the maple bacon pizza. Takes the white pie to another level and has become a go to for me. Always, I repeat always, order the meatballs and save the sauce for your pizza crust. Pasta Flavio: where it's not all about the Flavor, for better or worse…read more To be fair, this order was takeout, so the judgment is mainly on the food, and nothing for the ambiance. Service was on time, order was done correctly... we _think_. To be clear: * Don't rely on the menu descriptions. The alfredo sauce, for example, is not the creamy texture you're used to. It's cheesy bits in oil. Not bad, but not what I was expecting. And "truffles" were invisible - just the oil, not shreds of mushroom. * Compared to my favorite local establishment, The Pasta Shop in Denville, the pasta is a noticeable step lower in texture. There are fewer varieties of pasta here than the Shop, but on the other hand, much more customizable plates. The Pasta Shop is set up where you can order from their standard menu or their daily specials, withhold an item if you're allergic. Here at Flavio, you can choose your meat(s), sauce(s), toppings (up to 7, and then I imagine you can choose more at a cost). And you get a lot of meat - my chicken was hidden in the photo, but stirring turned it all up. And it wasn't too salty, and nicely grilled. But the other toppings, you get less. My arrabiata pepper was shredded in very sparse amounts. Struggled to find other veggies. Only a few garlic cloves, tho nicely roasted. Verdict? Will sacrifice quantity (of what can be ordered) for quality and stick with The Pasta Shop.

I recently attended the Santa Margherita Wine Dinner, and from the welcome pour of Ca' del Bosco Franciacorta to the final sip of Masi Amarone paired with Gorgonzola Panna Cotta, every course felt thoughtfully designed to showcase the harmony between food and wine. The evening began with a beautifully prepared smoked eggplant tartar topped with stracciatella, capers, and tomato confit, paired with Santa Margherita Eterna. The balance of smoke, creaminess, and acidity set the tone for the meal. The crudo tasting was a standout. Delicate tuna, hamachi, and scallops were presented simply and elegantly, allowing the freshness of the seafood to shine while the rosato pairing added brightness and complexity. The slow-roasted veal cheek was the heart of the dinner. Tender enough to cut with a spoon, served over silky mashed potatoes and paired with Sella Antica Red Blend. Rich, comforting, and beautifully executed. Dessert was a surprise highlight. The Gorgonzola Panna Cotta with fig compote and amaretti offered a creative balance of sweet and savory, while the Amarone elevated every bite. What impressed me most was the pacing of the dinner and the educational component. Each wine was introduced with purpose, creating an atmosphere that felt welcoming whether you're a seasoned wine professional or simply curious to learn more. Events like this remind me why Eataly remains one of the best places to explore Italian food and wine culture. Great products, knowledgeable staff, thoughtful pairings, and a genuine passion for hospitality. If you enjoy wine dinners, this is absolutely worth attending. I'll be keeping an eye out for the next one. Details define the experience. -- Jeffrey Umaña IG @jeffrey.umana

Maybe I'm just ordering the right thing? The pomodoro pasta is one of the best I've ever had. This sauce is really delicious and complex. The pasta is really nice quality and al dente. Very good. Recently we came for brunch and it was just ok. The eggs with asparagus, ricotta and pancetta - We asked for a soft scramble (not soft). They had sliced raw asparagus tossed in little olive oil on sliced bread... needed to be more than just that. It would have been a lot tastier if they seasoned the ricotta and toasted the bread. Still, I like coming here and it's a great restaurant for a mall. It's also easy to bring kids here which makes it very convenient!
