I went to the store for the first time I bought the fruit Durian for $16.84. Drove home for 4 hours. I opened the fruit next day. the fruit was Garbage. I called the store to let them know that the quality of Durian was not good, I was asked to send a picture and receipt number to get a refund in my credit card. The manager LEE who is very rude told me that I need to get back to the store so he can give me $15. I explained that I live 220 miles from Tampa, and I would like either refund to my credit card or at least a text from him so I can get my money back when I will drive back to Tampa one day. Lee is very disrespectful and has no manner for customer service. I would definitely never buy from there to the poor treatment. Lee needs FDA to pay a visit to his store. read more

Stumbled across this place in a search for Asian grocery stores as we are looking for some Mayo that my daughter needs for a dish she wants to make (kewpie mayo). Never knew this place was here so stopped in. The parking is relatively small and the store is messy. The aisles are right with no room for multiple people. There is alot of variety however there's just so much stuff everywhere. They have soo much that in the kitchen area there are items all over the floor that I had to walk over. My favorite is the banh bao (Vietnamese pork bun), if it's cold, ask the staff to heat it up for you. It's da bomb. This is a great Vietnamese grocery store. They have a lot of ingredients for Vietnamese cooking and snacks. It can get busy on the weekends so be prepared to rub shoulders with people in some of the isles. Prices seem on par with Tampa area Asian markets. They do have a nice selection of fresh cut meats and fish as well. I get all my ingredients for making Pho, Pad Thai, Thai Green Curry, Chicken Tom Yum, Mango Sticky Rice, etc. and ingredients are ridiculously cheap, so what more could you want? Go get shopping, cooking and creative in your kitchen! My love for this place will never falter. The staff keeps this place fairly clean and are always busy, so it can be a little bit of a challenge to get help. Honestly, this is more of a place where you take care of yourself and requires you to chase someone down if you have a question or two. You can purchase Pho starter kit for first timers. I prefer putting together my herbs because it's fun to do and I think it's cheaper, too! I love coming here to get my Pho ingredients (star anise, cinnamon stick, cloves, coriander, fennel, cardimon pod, fish sauce, rock sugar, ginger, scallions, etc.) to make a satisfyingly yummy broth. Also, I'll pickup a couple pounds of beef bones (marrow, knuckle/leg bones/oxtail) for a rich flavor. For toppings, lime (Stable at my house!), cilantro, basil, bean sprouts are a must to complete the dish. I usually buy over 20 ingredients at this Asian market for a comforting, rich beef broth because this can be a one stop shop for making homemade Pho, which saves time! I get my glutinous rice along with full fat coconut milk and sugar, toasted sesame seeds or mung beans, from here to make Mango Sticky Rice and make it in a bamboo cone steamer, which they carry! These are the core ingredients I get: shallot, garlic cloves, stalks fresh lemongrass, shrimp paste, coriander, fresh kaffir lime leaves, fresh galanga (Thai ginger)...this is the basis you need for Thai dishes, especially when I make Chicken Tom Yum and Green Curry, but you would omit lemongrass and add tamarind along with other ingredients for Pad Thai, etc. You can get your fresh veggies and herbs at a really, really good price point along with ready to eat Vietnamese snacks to choose from, beef knuckles and organ meat as well as fresh seafood and there's even a small meat department. This market is very good for Vietnamese shopping and other Asian style cuisine. Mostly I love this store because they have FRESH Durian fruit. The staff is also very friendly, the young ladies are very helpful, if you need any help to choose a fresh fruit they are quick to get a knife and open part for you to see. Yes, there is some garbage outside sometimes on the ground, but that has nothing to do with the staff, that is just lazy people littering as they come or go. I have never felt so unwelcome in my life! I used to go to this market often when I lived closer and never had any complaints. I have since moved farther away, but stopped by one day to stock up on some things. I loved this store because they sell great products. The last time I was here, the cashier was aggressively speaking with others in the store in their native language and literally tossing my items in the bag. I could see other patrons who understood what he was saying shake their heads as if they didn't agree while some others were laughing. When I saw this store I wondered why I never stopped in before. I was turned off after walking in. It looks dirty and unorganized. We were looking at the soy milk in the refrigerator and when we opened the door they all started tumbling out because they were stacked improperly. This store has great selection of veggies , fish and many noodles for all the Thai cooking The store also has an aloe drink we all like that is natural from Vietnam , stocked up on that. Huge selection of fish that comes in fresh on Friday. I get all my vegetables here because they are fresher in the plastic bags and stay well in home fridge. Bags of sweet rolled jackfruit with black sesame cookies area weakness , and here I find lots of other flavors. The separate section has a good selection of cooking and serving bowls and spoons. We had some fun in this Vietnamese grocery stocking up on sweet soy sauce, thick soy sauce, chili paste, coconut milk, a few cold drinks, fresh veggies, fresh fruit, and of course some crazy varieties of ramen, I think they were happy to have a non-oriental person in the store because they have us a huge bottle of fish sauce as a gift when we checked out. It will last a few years as I don't ever seem to use fish sauce when I'm cooking. Time to try some new recipes! read more

Quick Summary: If you're looking for those rare items that just don't seem to be in the local Publix, you're gonna be able to find them here. A huge variety of vegetables and herbs and a good selection of meats. My personal favorite though was is the selection of 'asian' drinks. You haven't lived till you've had Grassy Jelly Drink or Yeo's Soy Milk. I'm not much of a cook myself, but the rare times that I do get inspired to make a traditional dish, it can be very hard find the right things to complete a Vietnamese dish. The herbs, vegetables, and spices can be quite rare if you're not in the right area, and substitutes aren't just the same. I'm glad to say that the selection at Lien Hoa is excellent. The store itself is a bit cluttered... not like a messy room, but there's a lot of things and if you're not familiar it can take some time to find what you need. The aisles are a little small, but this is common for most ethnic markets I've been too; there's a lot you gotta squeeze in. The things that caught my eye aside from the herbs/vegetable and meats selection, was their variety of packaged noodles and their variety of 'asian' drinks. Everybody's probably had top ramen at one point or another, but if you didn't know there's a huge market and variety of those packaged noodles, and this market carries a good mixture of them. Yeah they're not the healthiest thing to eat (I believe my mom said I looked 'thicker' after a semester of eating these...) but they're a guilty pleasure of mine (that usually results in an extra two miles the next day). Also I was very happy to find a selection of Grass Jelly Drink and Yeo's Soy Milk... oh man both bring back very fond memories of my childhood. If you've never had it Grass Jelly drink is kinda like boba but instead of a thicker tapiocal pearl there are little cubes taht are more jello like. The drink itself is slightly sweet and is typically honey flavored but they also have coconut, lychee (my personal fave), and banana. It's a fun and very refreshing drink and surprisingly not that many calories (60 cals, half of what a typical soft drink is). And Yeo's Soy Milk... I've heard a lot of complaints about soy milk, but I suspect those individuals have never had an asian style soy milk... I dunno what it is but the way they sweeten it... oh man soo good... I remember as a kid it was such a treat to get a can of that on the weekend when the family went out for Pho. Oh! And I almost forgot... they carry Maggi! If you've never had eggs with Maggi... you are not living... seriously. Get a small bottle have some with your eggs instead of salt (I recommend them with scrammbled or sunny side up eggs)... SOOOO GOOD! You can thank me later ;) Anyways, a good market in a pretty decent location from me. Loved that I was able to buy the soy milk by the case! (half the price of individual cans!) So much trashes that they had to hire white people to pick up their trashes. I guess it's a culture thing to trash wherever they go. I didn't believe it at first but out side and inside is trashed. The Togo food are staled or will soon be staled when you bring it home. Inside of the store is a cluster, they try to shove all these ready to eat food right in the middle of the store and it's taking up most of the walking space and on top of it is the fishy smell. There's even trashes hanging outside walls and cigarette butts all over the ground. If you want real authentic Vietnamese shopping experiences without leaving the country, this is it. read more

During my stay in Tampa Florida, I wandered around the city and found this cute little Asian market, which ended up being up Vietnamese market. It was cool and interesting to see Tampa have its own Asian enclave. I had time to kill here in Tampa FL after picking up my rental car and waiting for friends to get off work, so I found a place for lunch next door and this Asian market shop in the form of Lien Hoa Oriental market. It was nice to be able to shop here and it brought me back to the days of shopping in Chinatown in Honolulu during my childhood and lately anywhere in this USA, where they have chinatowns or just anywhere where there is a large concentration of Asian Americans in a particular area. The market is self was kind of small yet large enough to pack away many many items to sell for the general public. I must've spent about 30 minutes looking around for stuff to buy and eat (snacks and things) during on my stay in Tampa. I ended up buying couple boxes of mochi in a box, which was kind of weird at the same time, but it ended up being pretty good anyway. I also bought some candy and other small snack items. I ended up eating them on my flight to Albuquerque, New Mexico. The overall experience here was pretty awesome in a way, just because it reminds me of home (in Honolulu, Hawaii) and it's always nice to have these kinds of stores anywhere, just to have various items you may need when you travel - which evidently I did. The Lien Hoa Oriental market is a fun place to shop in. There wasn't much people here when I was there, probably because it was mid afternoon on a Tuesday. I suspect that most people are still working and don't have the time to go shopping for food and stuff during this time of the day. Lien Hoa Oriental market is located at 3692 W Waters Avenue here in Tampa, FL. They except credit cards, probably visa and master card, as well as cash. Pretty sure that they do not accept American Express, although I do not know this for a certainty. The prices here are very good, much like those of many Asian communities and chinatowns across the USA. Plenty of various products here for your daily needs. There are other random stuff, as well as candies and other snack items that will surely make you want to keep you coming for more. The market place itself was kind of poorly lit, but you could see everything okay. While my time here was brief, I must say that it was pretty cool to go shopping here in Tampa. I enjoyed myself here even if it was for a short time. While I may not have seen a Chinatown here in Tampa, it was good to see some Asian American influence here in west Florida. The service here can be characterized as being okay, as most Asian American people can be - passive and not much of a cheery type personality that others can be. I didn't really get that impression when I decided to check out and pay for my items. Still, don't let that get ahead of you. This place is good for y'all who need Asian foods and other things you may not find elsewhere in the city. I'd recommend coming here just to discover new things and see what else is out there in your city. May just be your best bet to new stuff you never thought of before. The store itself was organized, but sometimes, prices were not really marked on some sections / shelves. This place has a good selection of teas. Although I would have bought an assortment of them for drinking at my leisure, sometimes, it's not feasible when out traveling and exploring new places. Oh well. Although called an Oriental Market, the store mainly specializes on Vietnamese ingredients and cuisine. The market was quite clean, however items were a bit cluttered. It was not messy as a room, but there's a lot of products in small aisles. The shelves were fully stocked and not as organized as a regular American grocery market. As I mentioned earlier, herbs and spices for Vietnamese dishes are quite hard to find, however, this market seemed to have an ample variety of unfamiliar and fresh exotic herbs, vegetables and spices. The herbs and vegetable section really caught my eye. There were quite a bit of fresh greenery I have never seen before. A majority of the fresh herbs and vegetables did not have English labels, they had names but in Vietnamese. Next to the vegetables section was the fresh meat section, they also have a butcher on duty to cut select parts of pork. Vietnamese have a lot of seafood influence in their dishes, however for their meats they mainly use pork instead of beef like Americans. The meat section had unusual cuts that Americans do not use and usually discard, such as: chicken feet, pork tail, pork ears, and ligaments. The restaurant part of the store served fresh Vietnamese soup, I could smell the fresh smell of home cooked meals with fresh herbs in the air of the grocery store. The restaurant name is Saigon Deli, similar to how Publix has its own deli section that served fresh meals. This gave the store quite a unique environment while shopping around. The rest of the store had a very large seasoning section. There were quite a variety, the main ones I noticed were fish paste and shrimp. As I looked around the store I did not find many snack foods or even a snack section at all. It seemed that snacking is not very popular in Vietnamese culture as American culture. Overall, this ethic market visit was very pleasing. The staff around were very friendly and they kept the place clean and very well-stocked. Lien Hoa Oriental Market sits on Waters Avenue in a small Asian shopping center, just east of Dale Mabry. The market is tucked back into the corner of this shopping plaza, and it sits next door to my favorite Vietnamese restaurant - Saigon Deli. The market is not as expansive as Oceanic Oriental in downtown Tampa or MD along Fowler, but it's a nice place to stop in for Asian veggies, Raman noodles, and Vietnamese sauces and spices. This is a decent Asian Store. It's not an Asian Supermarket like they have in the West, therefore if you're expecting a Walmart looking type of store then you're too narrow minded. They have good selections on Asian things and have good parking area (unlike in Hawaii Downtown, you have to pay and fight for parking). My most favorite Vietnamese and oriental market in Chicago. The vegetable is always fresh. Also, there were several stir-fried cuts of beef, short rib, ground beef, and pork. Everything Vietnamese ingredient could be found here, even some extreme rare like Balut eggs. They even sell pork bones and beef bones for making broth. They were all affordable.
