The morning of the baby shower -- two hours before pickup -- a man named Matthew left me a voicemail saying they only had the sandwich platter, fruit platter, and veggie platter. That's it. No apology. No suggestions. No solutions. Just a voicemail dropping a bomb on the day of my family's event. And when I picked up the sandwich platter? The bag of lettuce they handed me was brown and slimy -- visibly rotting through the packaging. They handed it to me anyway and said nothing. This is my LOCAL store. My family shops here regularly. I trusted these people with an important family milestone and they couldn't have cared less. No accountability. No urgency. No effort. It's run by a sweet older gentleman and features many varieties of fruit, veggies, and a limited selection of groceries. Many of his items seem to be "seconds" (perhaps bruised fruit, or a veggie a little past its prime) but the prices make a stop here worth it if you're willing to dig around for the good stuff (or just cut off the "bad" parts when you get home). I bought a HEAP of fruit and veggies here and only spent $15. Wheeler's is cash only, so keep that in mind if you stop. And be sure to ask him about the cool antique phone on the counter - it still works!

I think Safeway is a bit overpriced, but they do have a couple of areas where they shine: the service deli and their overall customer service. The service deli has improved a bunch for me because I like their freshly made sandwiches. For breakfast, lunch, or dinner, you can get various meats and cheeses on flatbread or focaccia, and they are pretty good. The employees at Safeway are usually helpful and positive, which I appreciate after navigating grouchy public servants for much of my adult life. I think Albertson's is cheaper and Yoke's has more options, but Safeway is closer and the service has been good, so I will continue going there.
