I've come here so many times and it's my favorite thrift shop in Brooklyn! So many goodies fairly priced.

You would think a thrift store would be the last place where you'd find snotty salespeople, but this so-called "boutique" is located in tony Park Slope, the home of overprivileged transplants, midwestern provincials and other non-native New Yorkers who reflexively treat people of color with disdain, suspicion or outright hostility. I was unaware of this when I innocently stepped into the store with my White husband. We are proud Queens people on a day trip to the Slope. On the surface, it seemed like any other thrift store with lots of costume jewelry junk in the front and lots of used clothing that had been carefully sanitized and presented as if it was new. This wasn't a high end store like theRealReal or What Goes Around Comes Around. It wasn't filled with Gucci, Prada or Chanel. The prices were on the low end and nothing about it distinguished it from a place like Housing Works. When I entered, the salesgirl at the front (brown haired girl of the Maggie Gyllenhaal variety) didn't say anything. At first hubby refused to come in because he assumed it was all for women, but when I went to the back I saw there were books and went back outside to get him. He followed me in and later said that the girl had a worried look on her face, didn't say anything but gave off a distinctly cold, unfriendly vibe. I didn't notice anything amiss until I started hearing the salesgirl open her mouth to welcome all the white women who entered the store after me. As I examined the racks, I heard her say, over and over, "Welcome!" or "How are you doing?" followed by "Everything is 30 percent off!" Even while I was looking at the glass case directly in front of the cashier, the girl refused to speak to me. Over my head, I heard her say to another customer, "If you need anything, let me know!" Like I didn't exist. Now I understood why the girl got rattled by my husband's appearance. Perhaps her little racist head got confused - perhaps she feared he would protect me the way Prince Harry protects Megan Markle and there would be an incident. Maybe she had never seen a biracial couple before. Or maybe she didn't know whether to be nice to him or not, given that he was associated with me, a non-white person. Needless to say, we bought nothing. At the door, I said loudly, "It's overpriced junk," at which she cheerily replied, "Thank you, have a nice day!" If you believe in racial equality and you claim to be a Park Slope liberal who believes in BLM and fighting anti-Asian hate, do not patronize this place. As a Queens visitor, I am pretty shocked at the blatant racism exhibited by this place. Reading the other comments by people of color, I see I'm not alone. Support Housing Works instead. read more

This shop is definitely pricier than the average thrift shop. If you come on certain days you can find some great deals! I went this weekend and found a pair of beautiful detailed red t-straps that I instantly loved for just $5. I did find a pair of Payless shoes but they could have easily been mistaken for J.Crew or something higher brand for $15. Since they were new and I loved the tweed and ruffled, modern diamond bow, I had to have them too. I came a different time and got a polka dot ruffled skirt for five bones. It's a great thrift shop to have on your route. You never know what you are going to find. read more

I had a really wonderful time searching for treasures! This is a HUGE place. The lady at the counter was very nice and helpful. She even came to find me when I left a necklace on the counter. I had a wonderful visit looking at all of the curiosities. They have some interesting art and I imagine if I knew anything about it, I could have found a hidden treasure. As it is, I left with some some amazing vintage jewelry and some truly special pieces to wear to Harry Potter this evening. Very excited!! Highly recommend visiting and see what turns up. read more

Had such a great experience here! The owner (I think!) was extremely helpful and attentive. They have some high end items and everything is reasonably priced. This place is a gem for a book nerd. They have a huge selection of used books on the bottom floor that are $2.00 or less. I've found beautiful old classics all the way to new hardcover books there and all for a great price. So I was nervous going here because I'm used to super cheap thrift stores, and some of the reviews made me nervous but I was really glad that I came here . Walking in to the store I love the aesthetic . Vintage dresses lots of jewelry . What I loved about their jewelry section was that they had so many unique pieces and clip on earrings (I don't have holes in my ear) On the top floor they have stuff ranging from 10-16 bucks (shirts) I didn't bother with the dresses because they def only had small sizes and I am not a small woman you know lol the shoe section was nice but the cute shoes were small lol I didn't realize they had a downstairs until I asked the one of the staff there and she told me that the color tags are 5 bucks so I went downstairs and it was so much clothing . Don't forget to go downstairs guys ! They also have books ,tapes, house stuff ,coffee mugs, plates etc . It's a really dope spot and I'll def be back . One of my favorite thrift stores. The place is huge (for Park Slope) with two big floors of clothes, bags, accessories, artwork, and household items. The selection is fairly well curated and if you have time to fully browse both floors, you usually find a number of great steals. I've gotten Oxford shoes and vintage tops for $5, beautiful vintage jewelry for $8 to $15, Oneida plates and bowls for $2 each, and even a large antique gold mirror for $50 (similar mirrors sell for more than $500 on Etsy and in antique stores). It seems sparsely staffed but the employees generally let you browse in peace, and will help you if asked. When I found the aforementioned antique mirror, it was on the floor in one of the fitting rooms and I couldn't tell if it was for sale or part of the decor as there was no price tag. The employees did not seem to know either but one took my number and told me she would call the next day once she found out. I received a call the next afternoon with a price quote, and they held the item for me till I was able to return to collect it. Love having this thrift store in my neighborhood! read more

Was racially profiled and sexually violated in this store. Worker by the name of Miranda opened the curtain on me in the dressing room while I was I was taking off my skirt and kept following me around the store because I'm Hispanic. I called the manager by the name of Hershell and he seemed to not have a care in the world. I asked them to check the cameras so they'll see that I'm not lying but they said their cameras are fake. How convenient. I have been a customer for years and have spent thousands of dollars here and always had a good experience until this. I am very shocked by this whole situation and feel extremely violated and disrespected. The money goes to a great cause but I would like everyone who shops here to know that they don't care about minorities or when one of their customers is sexually violated by one of their workers. I am in the middle of seeking legal action. read more

My third time at this store and they had discounts and gave me a negotiated price on two of my items..This time no sale or discount and they are priced as a consignment shop...The cashier was nasty about the question i asked " are there any sales" and can i negotiate a price..she said WE DONT DO THAT!! THRIFT SHOP IS A NON PROFIT GAINING PROFIT ON A 501C3...I WILL NEVER SUPPORT THEM AGAIN..THEY ARE WORSE THAN GOODWILL!! read more

Good luck actually buying something at this store. Saw something in the window that I wanted, although I'd need to try it on / find out how much it costs as this place is definitely on the pricey side for a thrift shop. Was told by the clerk that they don't sell items out of the window until they undo the display because it's "too much work." (Mind you, I could have reached the items in question -- hats -- out of the window myself.) And we're talking about a HAT. So when I said I still didn't understand how I could purchase something advertised in the window, she said I should come back on Friday or on Monday (?!?!) when they are taking down the display...like I don't have a job and can just stalk their window. Good lord - total idiocy. You can keep it. read more

I am very happy to have this business in my neighborhood, where I have lived for 22 years. I always donate my stuff there and once in a while find something to purchase that I find special. The staff is generally busy but very nice and patient. As an educator, I am certain that dealing with all kinds of people can be tough. read more

Hmmm. Not feelin' it, unfortunately. I've stopped in several times and have never left with anything. Anyone that knows me know I don't window shop. I buy things. Usually compulsively. However, whenever shopping at this hard-to-find-the-name-for store, I leave empty-handed. (It's Life Boutique Thrift, but I've still never seen that name anywhere!) Main issue: Selection is overpriced. Plain and simple. It's a thrift store priced like a vintage/antique store. The basement is pretty grungy and is supposedly the "discount" stuff, but when I've seen it....heaps of junk, still overpriced. Think old wooden ship frames for $100. The upstairs is obviously in much better condition and has much more clothes and furniture/knick knack items, and I can see that some of it is REAL vintage, but some of it is not, but all are priced high. It doesn't measure up to the quality, presentation, etc. *No one has ever said hi to me in this store in the 5x I've been in. None. I've even asked for help once and the girl barely acknowledged me. This is my absolute favorite place to shop in New York. Al the employees friendly & excited about what they sell. In NY its rare to approach anyone (especially when you think they want something from you) - I quickly discovered that wasn't the case with this place. I shop on a budget & figured that the "brands" all girls want, were way out of my $$ league. I took a chance and went up to a sales associate. I told her I wanted Chanel shoes (knowing my odds). Totally in shock, she showed me a pair that were on the mannequin: simple, black, my size....PERFECT - ....for $99!!!!! (Original BOX & dust bag). Although I grit my teeth for sharing this....people should know where they can shop for the BEST items & be treated kindly. They've got a customer for "life" in me...pun intended! read more

I was hesitant to write a review about my new favorite vintage thrift store because it's that amazing, and I want it all for myself! When I walked through Park Slope, I felt like I was walking through New York's version of Melrose Avenue. So many stores with all kinds of various ethnic culture. Now all we were missing was the amount of people walking through it. I know how to hunt down a good store when I pass by one. I can smell for vintage, its like my sixth scent which led me into Life Emporium. The vintage camera peeking through the window also amazed me. Once walking into this store, I felt like I was transported back into the 80s. I found many cute polyester dresses, and all hung up on hanger racks and color coded. The darker pieces were in the back of the store. I found a ton of vintage designer brands too, but was more interested in my spring dress finds! I bought two dresses and I plan on coming back here for much much more! read more

Awmuhgod!!! What a great place! This reminds me of Housing Works before everyone and their mother started shopping there. This cute place is a gem, with really amazing designer clothing at crazy prices. When I visited it seemed as though a very small person donated a crap load of great things, as I could not fit into anything stylish. I didn't interact with the staff so much, but several people near the fitting room were asking me styling opinions, so I must say that the clientele was really nice and friendly. They have everything from fun red lockers (at a great price) to tiki masks, to tons of costume jewelry to designer frames. The shoes are great too, although of course there was nothing for my monster feet. The downstairs area is more "thrift" than "boutique", but I appreciate the high and low aspect. They also have a crazy amount of board games along the wall. A fun place to venture into on a great spring day! read more

Such a great little thrift shop, definitely one of the best in Park Slope! They have a great selection, from Marc Jacobs to H&M, and with that kind of range plus the incredible prices I almost always find something here. Even better is the staff - after dealing with the atrocious employees that some second hand places have (I'm looking at you Beacon's Closet) the friendly and welcoming people here are a breath of fresh air. I visited this boutique yesterday with a friend of mine who is also black. We were followed all the way to the back of the store by two shopkeepers who were pretending to busy themselves with work. I have lived in Brooklyn my entire life and spent most of it in Park Slope so I'm quite used to the lowkey racial profiling in this oh so progressive neighborhood. I left as soon as I realized what was going on. Will never return of course. read more
