Stumbled here as the interior caught our eye and wasn't looking super busy at 8pm on a Saturday - We were seated as soon as we walked in and spent the next 10-15min waiting for our server... till i was able to get the attention of a server who happened to walk by. She was kind enough to do so as i noticed she was probably the only one going around. The other server just disappeared. Solid unique retro bar This is a place I've passed by almost everyday and there is always a crowd! Finally I've been able to try it and can say it's not bad. The best parts are that there are nice booths and seating options which makes this restaurant easy for groups. Their cocktail menu is good but honestly didn't love the cocktails I tried. They have unique ingredients and combinations which were not quite in my palette. I ordered the Big in Japan which was fine but had sooo much ice. Brunch here was SOOOOOO good!!! There was a 2 hour wait for Sunday brunch at Plum Bistro nearby so we went here instead. I got the Up on Mars Platter ($13.5) - every component was awesome and it was so beautifully presented. Highlights are definitely the mile high SUPER flakey biscuit, the creamy egg and the country gravy. That blackberry jam seriously tasted homemade too! Is life on Mars really that much better than here on Earth? Depending on our rate of meat consumption, it might just be lol. But I'm not here to tell you that, and instead say that this trendy bar serving up vegan comfort foods is a great spot to take anyone for a good time. I joke around that I rarely have to wait to be seated at vegan restaurants but Life on Mars nearly changed that stance. Any restaurant in Capitol Hill is bound to be busy, so we almost had to wait on a Friday evening. Fortunately they had an outdoor table available so bam - in your face queue. Food wise - they offer a large selection of comfort foods that anyone will find familiar. From burgers and sammies to classic American sides, this can be a good spot for anyone looking to transition to plant based eating but needs a bit of help. I ordered their Crab Cake Po Boys with their quinoa salad as a side, while my partner went with their Spicy Chicken Sandwich and fries. We also shared their Mac N Cheese cause you gotta try this at any vegan spot to see how they do. My crab cakes were okay - crispy batter with what I believe to be seitan in the middle. The quinoa salad was not good so I wish I had gone for the fries instead. The chicken sandwich here was also decent - spicy seasoning was on point and it resembled more of a 'filet o fish' type of sandwich. I also thought the mac could've had more flavor but it may have just been the kind of vegan cheese they used. Overall, a pretty decent spot for vegan eats in the area but I find there are better plant-based restaurants elsewhere in Seattle that you can check out. Come for the drinks and vibes and maybe some apps, but grab a heartier plant-based meal elsewhere. read more

This is one of my new favorite brunch spots! Vegan or not, the food here is incredible and the drinks are even better! Plus, I like that they include the abv next to each drink. I ordered the "chicken fried steak" made with chickpeas and I cleared the plate... it was so amazing without being heavy or feeling like I need a nap. There is not parking here, as with most places in caphill, but I found street parking no problem! They also have a "you pick the record" thing going on weekdays after 4, and all day Sunday. You get to pick what's playing from a massive collection of records, and I think that's really fun. They do not take reservations, but our group of 5 had no issues getting a table. Good creative cocktails, good vegan food. One of the best ones I feel, as most of the time restaurants miss the fake meat recipes. The breakfast-YUMMY!! But it is expensive. This is a place I often go to chill with my friends but it is getting more and more expensive to buy these fancy cocktails. Even standard drinks like old fashioned or Martini are expensive. Ambiance is a 10/10 from me. When you walk in to the left is a huge comfy cozy sitting area with an entire wall of records. It feels like a cozy living room from a posh home. The booths are all this very fancy looking mustard color with big buttons. I went in and immediately felt comfortable which is huge for me. The staff is beyond nice and very helpful. The man checking IDs at the front door chatted with us and even talked to us about the book he was currently reading. My sister and I are huge readers so it was nice to hear somebody talk about a book they liked. The servers were very attentive and helpful with the menu. They helped guide our food and drink selection. The Sri k was very good however a little strong for my taste. I am very much on the more sugary not taste my alcohol preference. But their vodka was infused with green tea and I did enjoy the overall flavor a lot. THE NACHOS They are VEGAN! They are so fancy. They looked like the most fancy plated vegan nachos I've ever had. There were many different fake cheeses and other ingredients. They tasted super fresh and I loved the nachos. The service and ambiance here are amazing. My husband and I are vegan and have been here twice for brunch and the food both times was delicious. We decided to take our family from out of town here (not vegan) for dinner. I, as well as my cousin, were intrigued by the fish and chips since they said house made. We asked the waitress (super sweet) what they were made out of and she said banana blossom and I was stoked! I had never tried banana blossom and was eager to try since this place has amazing food. Alas the food came and it was gardein fish. No complaints! I love gardein and eat their "fish" at least once a week. But I was super bummed no banana blossom and kinda bummed we weren't told ahead of time the fish wasn't what was advertised. We'll def be back but just not to order the fish n chips. This place is so cute and fun! I would have given higher reviews if it weren't for our host who was totally on another planet the entire time (probably up in mars, lol). We decided to wait on a table since none were available and he wrote our name down and we waited outside. Then, he walked outside and asked us if we were just hanging out on the tables outside and forgot about us when others started coming! It was fine since there were many tables enough to seat all of the groups, but it was weird. The food was ok. The cauliflower was so oily, when we finished there was a whole lake on our plate that spilled all over our table when the waiter moved it. Our saving graces were the nachos (so yum) and our wonderful wonderful server. The ambiance from our server completely lightened up our mood! I would come here for happy hour... and that's it haha! So it's really hard to find a solid vegan breakfast, even in Capitol Hill. But the brunch at Life on Mars is hands down the place to go for some plant-based breakfast fare! The vibe of this bar is retro and fun. The bathrooms are a trip (go into the further of the two bathrooms! You won't regret it). The staff is friendly and efficient. And the food is bomb. The only thing I haven't loved there is the drinks. The Daoist, though clearly the cutest drink (yes please pandas) was undrinkable for me. The booths and decor are really nice though and the service was great. The menu looked really promising and I had been excited to try this place out for a long time. We ordered the nachos with chorizo, the chicken sandwich with fries, crab cake po boy with fries, side of aoli, and the orange tres leches. The nachos were pretty standard. The chorizo wasn't super flavorful but the cheese sauce was good. I wish there would have been more jalapenos. My partner described the nachos as "60% lettuce by volume". The blue cheese chicken sandwich was very mushy. The bun was mushy and so was the chicken. Neither of us could taste the blue cheese. The aoli was tasty and the fries had a nice crisp to them. The po boy was also really mushy and structurally unpleasant to eat. The flavor was fine but not very strong. I couldn't really tell what was going on. The fries were good. The tres leches was very flavorful but a little dry. It was our favorite part of the meal. However, the berries they used for decoration were frozen solid. read more

This place is the definition of a hipster spot in Seattle. Right on the Pike Pine corridor and the heart of Capitol Hill, this record bar serves up pretty good vegan/plant based food. I liked everything I go including the cauliflower, tacos and mac and cheese and was pleasantly spruced. There is usually a wait to sit but it's never taken too long to be seated. The staff was great and super organized and their cocktails, while spendy, were great. Parking here is a bit of a nightmare but it's right off Broadway so lots of public transit in walking distance. read more

Honestly? I came here because I finished the Red Rising Trilogy and liked the idea of Mars themed bar. Points for it being vegan as well! We came on a Friday around 6-ish and only had to wait a few minutes for our table to be set up. It was definitely busy though. I respect that they check IDs/vaccinations. We ordered the blooming onion (around 12$) and a few drinks. The atmosphere reminded me of those cool speakeasies with the low lighting and seemingly high walls. It's a pretty small place but felt like lots of conversations. I admired the wall of vinyls that they had displayed. The blooming onion came out pretty fast but I wouldn't call it a blooming onion as it was just like half of an onion. I'll stick to the state fair next time. Let me preface with the fact that I am not vegan, however this is one of my favorite breakfast spots. The audiophile in me brought me, the food kept me. I love how Life on Mars alternates between two customer picked vinyls throughout the dining experience and even has for sale (I bought my "In Utero" here). I've been here several times at different times of the day, but brunch is my favorite. I've had the Comfort Platter a couple of times, because I'm a creature of habit and once I like something I always go to it. The breakfast potatoes are amazing, I really loved the chickpea cutlet and mushroom gravy, I was impressed by the vegan biscuit (the texture was spot on), and I can never hate on fresh fruit. I've also had the house made Bloody Mary, I love a good Bloody Mary and let me tell you this one is spicer than normal just the way I like it. They have an extensive bottle collection, and I saw quite a few local distilleries from around the PNW (even tried a maraschino liqueur from Oregon!).
