This is probably the worst customer service I've ever experienced. They stole thousands of dollars from me by not letting me cancel my membership over the phone. Although they were able to suspend my account for 6 months, they couldn't cancel it for me unless I came in person. So I had to spend 3 hours of my life in traffic to sign paperwork they could have filled out over the phone. However, I was able to join via the internet without a signature. Arrogant and very short with no concept of customer service. After explaining in depth how logistically this wouldn't work for me, they continued with the script that I had to come in person. I use to like this place, I've been coming here for years Reasons I've lost touch with here and might plan to leave sooner or later. 1- on the main gym floor there are two rooms they have for classes, in the past 2 year now the rooms are used ONLY for classes.. even when it's empty for 2-3 hours , you use to be able to work out in private even if 2-3 other people came in it was still comfortable to workout now you CANNOT even use them between classes which is completely uncalled for there are men and woman who like to be alone while working out not infront of everyone. 2- little girls I'm speaking upon right now I've never seen a woman do this but LITTLE GIRLS AND TEENAGERS are allowed to wear sports bras with no padding which you can see there nipples, they do not have shirts on which is different then have no padding on and having a shirt in, I don't feel comfortable walking around and seeing girls with a see through bras being started down by grown men... I understand if you have padding but letting girls wear bras that you can see the whole nipples and the around part is disgusting and uncomfortable which I get nervous to come here anymore because of these girls and guys... Ive never seen a gym not care, I 100% believe every hour or so you guys send a female member and check if a girls of men is wearing anything see though or if they aren't wearing a shirt if there's padding which I can tell you youll be confronting girls non stop and seeing some nipples I don't come to this gym often anymore because they aren't aware with these things which they should and take seriously. read more

Lifetime was charging my credit card the whole time during COVID quarantine without my consent. This is not the right way to do business. They said they sent an email to notify the re-opening and re-activating of membership back in 2020, but I never received any email! Then they just went ahead and kept charging my credit card until I just found out (after 9 months). They are only refunding 3 months of membership fee. Maybe it's not illegal to charge existing members without making sure they actually received the email, but it's immoral to do so. The proper way is to stop charging people until they show up at the gym again. So I'm canceling the membership and would not be referring anyone else. read more

Overall a great gym that is clean and has a bunch of classes an various times to work with your schedule. If you can get into a class with Joseph or Kirsten, consider yourself lucky! They are fantastic and create a fun and accepting environment to workout in. I would stay away from taking a class with Miranda. Run by crooks! The amenities are great, but expect to be ripped off if you ever need to cancel your membership. My family signed up for a 14-day free trial one Saturday afternoon. We decided the place was not for us and returned on the morning of the Saturday two weeks later to cancel. We were informed that each Saturday counted as a full day and that meant we were late canceling and therefore had to pay for a month. In addition, we had to pay for an additional month because we didn't give a month's notice. I did some research and found that these people routinely rip off customers in similar ways all the time. If you aren't their customer, you're their enemy and it's open warfare. If you join, make sure you are prepared for a fight when you leave. read more

The drive up to gym from the main road was like driving up to a resort. Tree/flower lined median. Once you get to the location, you will notice the ridiculous outdoor pool. Step inside and enjoy the plethora of work out machines, weights, spacious stretch areas and rooms that hold workout classes (Zumba, Spin...etc). I was even curious to see what the yoga area looked like...clean and relaxing. Overall this gym...actually "resort" is worth the money you are paying (it's a lot) because you get a good bang for your buck (assuming you frequent it). The first time I saw the concept for Life Time Fitness was at Short Hills Mall a few years ago. They had a plastic scaled down model of the complex, and everyone wondered what it was...because it seriously looked like something from the Sims...it was fantastic and looked like a complete retreat, complete with sauna, steam rooms, spa, swimming pools, basketball/tennis courts, cycling room, yoga rooms, pilates, weight lifting cardio...etc Well now that the concept has been realized, we are SO GLAD WE SIGNED UP! Never before (present or future for that matter) will there be another place like Life Time Fitness. Like Justin reviewed before me, this is a SHRINE. It is so ginormous that I can't describe to you, you have to see it and experience it~ I'm the type of person who has high metabolism, eats fried chicken at 3 am in the morning, doesn't gain a pound, and hasn't worked out a day in her life...I hate any type of pain, had no idea what "gym" meant and avoided it at all costs... Now that we've joined Life Time, I want to go EVERY SINGLE DAY and the fact that it's open 24 hours a day is a big plus for the bf and I. The indoor outdoor pools are excellent, the multiple jacuzzis, saunas, and steam rooms are a wonderful way to relax, I don't even shower at home anymore! It's A LOT less crowded if you go late night (after 9 pm). Everyone my parents know have membership here and when I go there it's such a friendly atmosphere since everyone you know is there anyway! There is so much included in your membership, free yoga classes, cycling, pilates, kickboxing, rock climbing, and of course unlimited use of the pool, courts, workout rooms and other facilities. There's also a Life Spa where you can get facials, manicures, hair cuts, and even a Life Restaurant with all health food so you don't stray from your work out. Whereas many people look for excuses to not go to the gym, I make extra efforts to completely clear out my schedule to spend a day at Life Time Fitness. They are hands-down the most sophisticated (and clean) gym I have ever been to offering a HUGE selection of gym equipment & cardio machines, whirlpools, sauna, steam room, fitness classes, yoga, Pilates (even with the Reformer), an indoor racquetball court & even a rock-climbing wall! You will never have to fight for a cardio machine, they're that plentiful. It's an extremely large venue sitting on top of a steep hill, but despite its size, I always find my ohm here. Their locker rooms & showers are top-notch. They supply an endless amount of towels along with beauty products (lotion, shampoo, conditioner, razors, shaving cream, hairspray, makeup remover etc) and they're insanely clean! I feel like a showgirl getting ready for a performance when I'm pampering in front of their Hollywood-esque mirrors. Not only are their facilities immaculate, but so is their customer service! The staff here really go the extra mile to make your gym experience personable & they try to address you (and remember you) by your first name. I haven't been to their cafe before, but there are always amazing smells emanating from it so I don't doubt for a second that their food is good. Yes, along with all this luxury, a price does come with it. It's about $100/month for a single, but extremely worth it. I was yelled at and threatened by a manager when I attempted to voice safety concerns (after calling several times and receiving no response). It is a horrible toxic place. Absolutely beautiful facility, place is always kept very clean and well stocked. Staff is always friendly and says hello or asks if you need help with anything. Lots of equipment and free eights available and most everything is up to date and in good condition. Great trainers and instructors. Lots of fantastic and diverse classes to choose from which I love. However many of the late morning classes tend to get extremely crowded, which I find to be a huge problem with this place. You will frequently experience cliques of obnoxious moms staking out their spots for themselves and their friends sometimes an hour before class. (Not just one spot try 6 to 8) And people tend to get very territorial. Don't even think about asking someone if they can move over a little (meow) I've never seen anything like this in any gym and I'm shocked they allow this. That being said, if you choose classes wisely you can sort of get around that nonsense. Or even better, take early morning classes before the 9:45 chaos. read more

Probably the best way to describe it is that you can SEE and FEEL like you are paying $100 a month for a membership. From an ocean of cardio equipment to the self rappelling indoor rock climbing wall, there was enough stuff for me to do to keep me there for over 5 hours. Just go for one day and you'll be hooked. I absolutely love this gym. I have been going since September with my 2 year old son and I am so happy I joined. If you can get there enough and take advantage of the classes and child care, it's definitely worth the price. I love the child care, they were so patient with Ben while he got used to being there without me (6 months later he still doesn't love when I leave) but Kristin, Stephanie, Jazmin & Jake are great! Ben LOVES Jake and I probably couldn't do classes during the week without him. The classes are fantastic. They have spin (love Sandra & Ann), spin with weights (with Ann), kickboxing with Joseph is amazing, and the new mat pilates class is also wonderful and a much needed addition. I am really looking forward to using the pool in the summer! This is a great gym atmosphere and I love it. We live in Maplewood and it's about 15/20 minutes away. I have been a member of this club for 2 years now. Two years is a long time to stick to a gym routine and somehow this club has worked for me so far. The Facility: Its huge, clean, well maintained, having lot of parking spots. It has everything you would ever want under one single roof right from a treadmill to a spa. Equipments: Plentiful. They are organized in such a way that different equipments working out the same body parts are grouped together. All of them have instructions about how to use them. Most of the cardio equipments have individual TV sets installed. Group Fitness Classes: This club offers a variety of group fitness classes including kickboxing, strength training, cardio resistance training, Zumba. I have really achieved my fitness goals by taking these classes only. Yoga/Pilates Studio Yes they have a separate studio for that. Exactly how it should be Pool Indoor pool is good. Outdoor pool (open during summer) is wonderful. Kids pool is separate. Outdoor pool has water slides for kids. It is surrounded by beach chairs. Both pools have a water fountain each and hot tub like jacuzzi. Locker Room: Well sized and filled with complementary toiletries. Lockers are key less and are operated with pass codes. So no need to carry your own lock. Cafe Good for salads sandwiches and smoothies. Spa I used it only once for a pedicure. It is like any other spa. Nothing extra ordinary. Child Center Never used it but looks pretty decent from outside. Other activities: They have basketball and racquetball courts. They also have indoor rock-climbing wall and a cycle studio. CONS: Expensive Everything here is expensive. The membership fees, food in cafe, spa services, individual Pilates session.. just everything. Personal Training Session I have had way better PTS at 24 hours. My personal training sessions here looked more like a general orientation to the gym equipments. I just didnt feel it was personalized enough. I would rather take free group fitness classes. No Early morning group fitness classes on weekdays Except for a yoga class two times a week, there are no other group fitness classes at 7-7:30 AM that you can take before heading to work. The employees are very friendly and professional. The facility, for the most part, is clean, organized, and the equipment seems to be maintained by the ops team. My only issue is that the rates for current members constantly go up every year that I've been a member, and I haven't personally experienced the added value that was suppose to come from those rate increases. I love this place. I could literally live here. Very clean and well organized throughout. Plenty of top notch equipment to use even during busy hours and that many gyms don't have (huge pools, rock climbing wall, outdoor pool and cafe, basketball courts, racquet ball courts, playground, salon, spa...). Friendly and attentive staff of all types and levels. Great amenities with top notch locker rooms, showers, hot tubs, sauna, steam rooms and more. Great for anyone young/old, fitness enthusiast/novice and more. The cafe is good but overpriced. I really like the breakfast selections. The price is very reasonable for everything you get and a bargain versus NYC or other fancier gyms which offer less for more money (Equinox, Can Do, etc). It's called "LifeTime" because it's a lifestyle for you and your loved ones, not just a gym. That's what they market, that's what you get and it's well worth it. I recently had to quit Lifetime due to moving closer to the city for work. I hope to find a gym that will make me as happy as Lifetime did. My favorite classes were spin, barbell strength, and insanity.I loved how they offered multiple times for people that work 9-5 jobs. It's also amazing how much equipment they have. It's rare when there are about 6 rows of treadmills, that someone will work out right next to you when there are so many other machines open. Gibbs and Ann are AMAZING instructors. If you see that they are instructing a class you want to take, do it! I will really miss Lifetime! read more

This is probably the Best gym around and definitely in it's class, but I'm sad to say that after being a member for over 11 years, I found that there is no benefit to loyal members that have supported Life Time Athletic gym. The membership fees continue to increase almost ever year, so I started paying a little below $90/month about 11 years ago when it was also a 24/hour gym (which was the main draw for me) ... now paying $135/month after taxes and fees. Recently, I found that a new member or only about 8 months was only paying about 3 dollars a month more than I was. When I discussed this twice with 2 different account managers, there was no talk about anything they could do, but more importantly ... there was no sense of any attempt to try and retain me other than I could get the forms to resign at the front desk when ready. Wow, business must be real good, there was zero programs in place for client retention and even less in the attitude from account managers when asked what could be done for me, a member for over 10 years. So, regretfully out of principle, I decided to resign. Honestly, if they would have been more understanding and attempted to explain to me why they could not do anything, but would take what I said under advisement to their upper management, I probably would have stayed. I joined in February 2011 after looking at a few other clubs. I'm blown away with the breadth of activity to engage in at Life Time Fitness. The club was obviously built by people who understand what their audience wants from a fitness club and also a club that welcomes children and makes fitness a family experience. I, for one, love seeing children everywhere. I'm working one on one with my trainer Jill, and she is so advanced in her skills that she makes me WANT to do things that challenge me. The worst part of this club is the stylists in their salon! When you join, you'll get special offers to check it out. DO get a facial (with Crystal; she is awesome). DON'T get a haircut unless you plan to walk out with a lopsided cut and want to end up paying 2 or 3 times as much money to get your horrible cut fixed elsewhere (my 15.00 "special" ended up being a 150.00 cut after having to visit my regular, professional salon to fix the damage that was done at the Life Time Salon!) I was very, very unhappy with how they handled my situation and would never wish it upon another person. While the club itself and most of the staff are awesome, LTF headquarters really needs to take another look at how they train their management to resolve issues; "listening" to problems and resolving them are two different matters and management definitely lacks in satisfactory, sensible or intelligent resolutions! read more

We have been members at LifeTime since 2011 and I can't think of a better monthly expense. My wife takes classes, my kids go swimming and rock climbing and I play basketball, swim and work out with weights. They also have a daycare with lots of computers. This gym is a huge part of our collective lives. This is not just a gym and shouldn't be compared as such. This was a 24h athletic center. I was a member of Equinox in Manhattan ($135 per month) and found it hard to motivate myself to just lift weights. At LifeTime I am able to measure my strength and cardio workouts not only in the mirror but most importantly in my performance on the basketball courts. In my family I use our membership the most. One of the most enticing aspects for me at LifeTime is that I am able to complete my work and cover my duties as a father and husband, reading bedtime stories, tidying up the kitchen and discussing the day with my wife before I head over to the gym for an extended 4 hours of ME time. Usually from 10pm to 2pm, 3 times a week. In involves hot spa and stretching, pool exercises, basketball drills and shoot-around, weight training folowed by more stretching, steam room and showering and grooming.The results of this regimen can only be measured in personal satisfaction, joy, arthritis relieve and a back to high-school bodyweight . Not bad for a 40 year old. However, al this may have to come to an end due to a recent change which involves all clubs in the north east to close between midnight and 4AM. The reasoning appears to be safety and security related or so they say. Most late night members I speak to are borderline outraged by this change. Some don't even get off from work by midnight, rendering their memberships literally useless. The confusing part is that the night staff, from my understanding, will continue to perform their maintenance duties throughout the night. The lights will be on all night, they're just shutting the doors for 4 hours at a time when many members are still on the premise. A few things came to mind when learning about this new implementation. I can only assume that the night-staff needs these hours to address issues on-site without members milling around. However, management should re-consider the hours of closing to minimize client dissatisfaction Why not close from 2 to 5 on weekdays and 1 to 5 on weekends. There are too many members present at midnight and forcing them out with loud repeated announcements is nothing short of aggravating. At Florham Park there are on average more than 10 members on the premise between 12AM and 2AM. Between 2AM and 5AM possibly 3 or 4 max. Yesterday (nov 1st, 2013) was the first day these new hours went into effect and I wanted to witness it first hand. Nobody likes change, but I can accept and adapt if it is for the improvement of the club and hopefully only temporary. But here is how it will affect me and my weekly routine. I will now be forced into the following; Option 1. Leaving home between 7 or 8 sacrificing family time to get my full routine in on a 3 day a week basis. Option 2. Splitting up my routine by alternating basketball and weights on different days. This will require 6 visits to the gym per week and an extra 50 miles per week on the odometer. Option 3. Accepting that I can not do all this in MY LIFETIME. I hope that top management will reconsider or alter these changes. read more

The new layout is awful. No room to do floor exercises without people walking by and almost stepping on you. Somehow I still convince myself this gym is worth it even tho I'm paying a ridiculous price ($127/month). Used to be under 100 and was way more worth it. My biggest complaint is it was once a 24 hr club and now closes at midnight. I work nights and joined this club for that reason. They should reconsider keeping it open for those of us who are night owls since there are very few if any gyms that are 24hrs nearby. (Cops, nurses, doctors, paramedics) to name a few. They should budget the 127 dollars per person to keep it open an 4 extra hours of the day.... read more

This is a nice gym, but they have very deceptive marketing practices, and try to nickel and dime you- which is VERY off-putting. This is NOT the type of service that I would expect when paying for an expensive initiation fee and monthly family membership. (And I am used to paying for equinox in Manhattan which is a step above this, but compares in price). Pros: Great group sessions Clean locker room w/ sauna and steam room Good cafe Nice kids area Cons: - On top of my family membership, they were charging new members $25 to use the outdoor pool PER MONTH. So essentially for a family of 4, you would be paying $300 extra to use the pool from June-August. - "Free personal training" as a new member benefit. This was an infuriating waste of time. The trainer spent the entire time talking about EXTRA classes that were not included in my membership! I mean, all he had to do was walk me around the gym and you know, actually train me and try to support my fitness goals with what the gym had to offer within my membership. Instead he tried to sell Pilates and boot camp small classes which have a separate fee, and hire a personal trainer. Seriously, so obnoxious. I almost canceled my membership then and there. - "one month of free swim classes for kids membership" So apparently, and very clearly unbeknownst to me, the swim classes were for 12 weeks (I have never heard of this before and any classes I have signed my kids up for swim have always been 1 month). The first month is free and next 2 subsequent months are $75 per month. I did not want to continue after the first free month so I notified the swim program manager. Her response is that their policy is that you need to give 1 months notice in order to cancel and because I didn't its $75 for the next month. This is ludicrous. My kid did not have a good experience and I gave it a few weeks trial and I never could have given one month's notice since the swim ONLY started at that time. This IS deceptive and not a good customer experience. At every turn this gym tries to suck money out of you. BEWARE. Very disappointing. read more

This is the worst one out of Bridgewater and Berkeley heights. I prefer going to Berkeley but if I go before work, unfortunately, I have to come here. The showers are constantly broken or there isn't hot water. One time they said it was because of the town water but I work in the town and my boss lives here and had no issues outside of the gym. I pay way too much money to have to be worries I won't be able to shower before work. I honestly may switch around my work schedule to just commute to work from the Berkeley heights lifetime because at least their showers work. Also, the equipment here isn't that nice- cardio equipment doesn't even have fans on it, and the cable machines/benches are all old. Pretty sad how different the quality of gyms are in the area from the same chain. read more

I've been a member of this gym for almost a year now. I have tried numerous classes which have all had great instructors. There are multiple lap pools inside and in the summer outside. Lounging by the pools outside in the summer is fantastic. I've also used the cafe while sitting by the pool which was very convenient. You get a gym membership and pool club in one! I have been to the spa for a massage, facial and haircut. All have been very enjoyable, and all have been discounted since you can transfer lifetime bucks to the spa. If you are just looking for a regular old gym to workout it's not really worth the cost. However, if you use the classes and everything this gym has to offer it's a great deal! read more

The gym is great and the facilities are always clean but I feel like I should be writing a review for a daycare center and not a gym. There are classes for kids during the day which use the aerobics rooms upstairs...both of them. There's nothing better than not being able to workout cause the 5-and-under crowd need someplace for nap time (I think they call it yoga). If you don't mind parades of children in the gym, on the basketball courts or out at the pool (especially on weekends) this place is fantastic. If you actually work out I wouldn't recommend this gym. They hold classes during peak hours called alpha which is essentially just crossfit. Picture packing a crossfit gym into your regular gym at 6pm and yes, it gets extremely crowded. Good luck finding a squat rack cause the alpha class seems to reserve them all. However, If you're a soccer mom with 5 kids or just looking to save money on daycare you're probably going to love it here. read more

We wanted to go as a family but most gyms don't have much to offer for a health conscious family with an active 3 year old. And typically either my wife or I were stuck home while the other one was out getting fit. Lifetime fitness filled the void! With everything a gym needs and more, this is the complete solution. They offer a great daycare with two hours of care for my daughter while my wife and I work out. Afterwards we all get together for family swim. We splash and have fun in the beach like pool setting complete with toys and gigantic mushroom water sprinkler at the indoor pool and a huge outdoor pool with slides. Another alluring aspect of lifetime is the integration of spa. Yes SPA! After a workout you can grab a massage, physical therapy and even a haircut. The money we save not going to a separate all day spa with pools, hottubs, steam rooms and saunas really make it apparent we are maximizing our spend. It's great to sometimes grab a quick 30 minute treadmill, a 10 minute swim and then hit the hottub and sauna for a lunch hour. Walk out feeling like a freshly pampered spa visitor. And when you are hungry, grab a sandwich, drink or snack at their cafe. The vibe at Lifetime FP is friendly, clean and well managed. We are greeted with welcomes upon entering. My daughter runs in and runs right to the play area where a well staffed care center keeps the kids safe and engaged. The locker rooms are clean and well kept. The classes are available to those with varied schedules. I love the yoga and biking classes. We have been onyx members since November 2013.
