We decided to go with Juan and Raul for our patio, and I'm really glad we did. Their team showed up not just on time, but early on the day of demo and installation. They worked efficiently and completed everything in just one day, which honestly exceeded our expectations. What I appreciated most was how easy it was to communicate with both Juan and Raul. They were responsive, patient with my questions, and very open to making adjustments to fit exactly what we wanted. I never felt brushed off or rushed, which is rare. The workmanship turned out clean and solid. The structure feels sturdy, everything looks well-aligned, and the finish came out exactly how we envisioned. However, the way this company has handled a clear mistake is extremely disappointing. During installation, their team drilled into the tile on our second-floor balcony and failed to seal the holes. When it rained shortly after, water came through those openings and caused damage to the ceiling in our dining room below. This was entirely preventable and directly tied to the installation. What's more concerning is what happened next. I've spent weeks trying to get this resolved. I've been in contact with their employee (Elizabeth), who acknowledged the issue and repeatedly said it would be taken care of. Despite those assurances, there has been zero follow-through. Communication has been inconsistent at best, and more recently I've been completely ignored. At this point, the issue is no longer just the damage; it's the lack of accountability. Mistakes happen. Ignoring a customer after causing property damage is a much bigger problem. If you're considering this company, just be aware: the install may go well, but if something goes wrong, you may be on your own. I'm still hoping they step up and resolve this properly, but based on my experience so far, I would proceed with caution.

Terrible management and product quality…read more I paid top dollar for a new front door from Ganahl, only to receive one with obvious defects: flaws in the wood -- including what appears to be a deep saw-cut burn and an oil stain -- putty oozing from the surface, and other workmanship issues that should never have passed quality control. When I reported the defects, Ganahl was dismissive and argumentative. I was essentially told that "wood is wood" and that the condition of the door was normal. That position quickly fell apart when the matter was escalated to the manufacturer, T.M. Cobb, which acknowledged -- from only a few photographs -- that the door did, in fact, have defects requiring attention. Despite that admission, we were told that it would take at least a week for someone merely to inspect the door, with no indication of how much longer an actual repair or replacement might take. Ganahl knew that professional installers were scheduled for the day the door arrived and that the installation was necessary to keep exterior stucco preparation, inspections, and the rest of the construction schedule moving. I proposed a remote video (Facetime) meeting so the parties could review the defects promptly and discuss possible solutions before the project was further delayed. Ganahl and/or T.M. Cobb unilaterally decided that such a meeting would be fruitless and instead dictated that I would have to wait for an in-person visit. T.M. Cobb also refused to discuss the matter with me directly, while Ganahl refused to put me in contact with the person T.M. Cobb planned to send to inspect the door. Their proposed course of action was therefore no solution at all -- send the installers home, stop related work, delay inspections, absorb the resulting costs, and wait at least a week without even being permitted to speak directly with the manufacturer or its inspector about possible options. We were therefore left with two unacceptable choices -- refuse to install the door and bring the project to a halt, or install it to keep construction moving and potentially have to rip it out later. To make matters worse, we were told that installing the door could be treated as acceptance "as-is," supposedly relieving Ganahl and T.M. Cobb of responsibility for correcting the defects. In sum, Ganahl delivered a defective premium-priced product, offered no timely or practical remedy, blocked efforts to discuss solutions promptly, and attempted to shift the consequences of its quality-control failure entirely onto the customer. The defective door was unacceptable. Ganahl's dismissive attitude, lack of urgency, refusal to take ownership, and unwillingness to facilitate direct communication made the experience significantly worse. Based on my experience, I would strongly caution anyone considering ordering a door through Ganahl or purchasing a T.M. Cobb product.

In came Rueben who helped me understand the science behind the way Lifetime installs pavers and how much stronger pavers are vs concrete. He also helped with the design, color scheme and pricing. Then Cody and David stepped in to finalize the construction of the project. David kept me updated about the progress on a constant basis. We had bids from other companies, but we ultimately went with Lifetime for their warranty, comfortability and affordability. Before this project, our front yard was little more than a narrow, uninspired strip adjacent to the public sidewalk that functioned more like spillover from the street than usable property. It did nothing to reflect the scale or architectural presence of our three-story, beach-adjacent home. Today, that same footprint operates as a private, structured courtyard -- a defined outdoor living space that feels intentional, modern, and architecturally integrated. The Techo-Bloc paver installation is executed with geometric discipline and clean proportional balance. The contrasting border trim sharpens the layout, and the modular patterning reads refined rather than repetitive. Where water once pooled visibly, the drainage now performs efficiently and invisibly -- The upgraded water line alone was transformative. After going through the process ourselves, I can absolutely see why they spoke so highly of the company. From the beginning, Byron made the design and estimating process feel very clear and professional. One thing I really appreciated was that he used an iPad on-site to draw out the design, calculate measurements, and price everything very accurately. It was not a vague "ballpark estimate" type of process -- it felt transparent, exact, and easy to visualize, which gave us a lot of confidence moving forward. Byron also helped us finalize the color choices, especially for the walkway, and his suggestions made a big difference in the final look. Roberto, who supervised the on-site construction work, was also excellent. He really listened to my concerns, took the time to discuss details with me, and most importantly followed through in the actual work without any issues. That meant a lot to me because I care about both design and functionality, and he handled both very well. Casandra in the office and Oscar as the business manager were also great throughout the process. My wife and I have a new-build that required additional landscaping of our backyard. We eventually decided to go with California Outdoor Living after reading all their positive reviews on yelp. In addition their quote was very competitive if not the best when looking at other contractors. We already had a design in mind for JC which made the process very quick. Although there was some misunderstanding with the design and drains throughout the process, JC was always responsive with his texts and quick to make adjustments. The moment we got our design approved by our HOA, the construction happened VERY FAST. We emailed California Outdoor living on a Wednesday evening of our approval. The very next day (Thursday), JC arrived to go over the outline. I do appreciate how fast things were done, but it was almost to a fault at times. They were ready to go by the next day but my wife and I didn't feel like we had discussed the plan and execution thoroughly enough. On Friday the construction workers were already digging out our backyard. They spoke only Spanish so communication was very difficult to ensure if our plan was executed appropriately. By Saturday all of the pavers were laid out. Construction was incredibly fast but because of that some details were lost in translation. We discussed with JC that we wanted an 11x14 ft paver island. However the final dimensions was 12.5 x 12.5 feet. We also wanted all the walls of our backyard to be lined with turf. However the paver border ran too close to one of the walls, that putting turf did not make sense. They only left 1 inch between the wall and the paver (see attached image). We appreciate how fast the work was done. The overall work was great BUT not exactly what we wanted. We felt rushed with the whole construction process. However everything was done in less than a week which was incredible! In addition, once the turf was laid out JC noted that window reflections from both our neighbors and our own windows would cause damage to the turf. He informed us this can happen sometimes. Going back to rushing things and not being thorough, we wished JC took the time to look at our backyard and factor in this possibility. If we had known the reflections could damage this area we would have changed our turf design. At the end of the day they are just executing our design, but it's these minor things that left us feeling like our backyard could have been better. However we are still very thrilled with the overall speed and communication done throughout the process! Would still recommend this company. But these small critiques are definitely something to keep in mind for future clients.

I would not recommend this company. Their lack of attention to detail made the entire experience…read moreunpleasant. The drainage tube was installed with the slope going the wrong direction, and the walls were not properly covered before the concrete was poured, leaving concrete splatter all over the side walls. The concrete also cracked less than three days after it was poured. It was poured on Monday morning, and on Wednesday the artificial turf guy was using a large plate compactor right next to the two-day-old concrete. I believe the vibration from that equipment contributed to the cracking. When I spoke with JC about the issue, he told me that concrete will crack sooner or later and that is why they do not warranty cracks. Concrete was poured directly on top of the soil, no gravel was brought first. While I understand that concrete can crack over time, I did not expect it to crack before I had even made my final payment. Despite my disappointment, I paid the remaining balance. After that, I never received any follow-up confirmation that the payment was received , or even a simple thank you.

After tolerating several different fencing companies and the variety of job estimates, we were…read morepleasantly surprised when we met Josh Tucker of AJM Construction. A Company that his father founded over 40 years ago, providing a variety of construction services. Josh made an appointment within a few days and was extremely professional and knowledgeable in providing an estimate via email the same day. The terms of partial payments were in accordance with State Contractors law and regulations. I mention this because we had two estimates that wanted 50% or more up front which is a huge flag and also illegal. Having a shared rear yard fence replacement done means coordinating with your neighbors. Josh was easily agreeable in meeting with our neighbors at their convenience and providing separate billing invoices for the shared costs. After scheduling almost 3 1/2 weeks later we had an installation date. Suddenly I was hospitalized and this meant my wife was very busy. I felt confident, as did she, having Josh and his crew go ahead with the work without any immediate supervision from us. For the 3 1/2 days the crew worked incredibly well in making sure everything was handled. This was a great relief to both my wife and I. Another plus was Josh and his crew handling everything. With Josh on site each day, they removed the old wooden fence, trimmed tree branches that were obstructing the new fence line, and chipped out the older post concrete. The post holes were widened, new pressure treated posts set, followed by new concrete poured to above grade to prevent wood rot. With the string line up, new redwood fencing was assembled after being primed. Once up, the fence was painted with two additional coats of two different paints. White for my neighbors to match his side fences and an off white matching our stucco retaining wall below the fence line planter. Great care was taken by the crew to cover all plant life and trees from paint and damage. We would highly recommend Josh and his family business for any of your Construction needs. The crew of Josh, Trinidad, and Alberto were extremely clean, professional, kind and thorough in their work on our fence and surrounding property.

When it was actually time to install the turf, a crew of about 10 came out and they finished the whole project in about 8-9 hours. They were like a well oiled machine and everyone did their part to complete the install in a timely manner. My parents liked the final result so much that they're going to get the backyard done with a putting green. I'll post an update when that one is done.
