First time floater! Read about this a while ago and always talked about doing it. A friend of mine had done it several times and highly recommended. Not only did I want to do this to figuratively wash away 2023 and bring in 2024 in a more peaceful, calm setting - but I also happened to throw my back out 2 weeks earlier and was looking to stretch and soak the pain away. The experience was amazing from start to finish. Upon entry, we checked in at the front desk. We signed in, signed waivers and watched an introductory video explaining what we were to expect. We removed our shoes and socks and left them in cubbies up front. If you do not have flip flops, there are paper ones available for you to walk the premises in. This is where I tell you to bring your own flip flops if the idea of paper ones turns you off. From there, we were brought to our private rooms. Inside my room was the float pod, a sink, a shower and a spot to leave belongings. They provide disposable ear plugs, which you'll want to use as you'll float with your ears submerged underwater. Everything is explained again before you're left alone in the room. I disrobed and showered. Shampoo, conditioner and body wash, along with a washcloth and towel are provided. You're not to use conditioner prior to entering the pod. Once you're done, it's time to submerge yourself. There is a handle which you can pull the cover of the pod down easily. There is a button to control the lighting, along with a button to control the music. Additionally, there is a small spray bottle full of fresh water that you can use should you get the salt water in your eyes. Admittedly, I had to use it - twice. If you feel too enclosed, the choice is yours to float with the pod open. I went in with lights to familiarize myself with the pod. I listened to music on and off. The music is soothing spa like type tunes. The volume controls were perfect. I chose to do the majority of my float in the dark with moments of complete silence. It was peaceful. Calming. The water warm. The way it flowed over me, suspending me mid pod was so relaxing. I stretched to the left and right. Arms to my side. Above my head. Completely outstretched. Allowed my toes to guide me along the way throughout the pod. At one point, rested my arms, criss cross, under my head and fell asleep for maybe 5 minutes. I didn't want to sleep. I wanted to be in the moment so I made myself wake up lol. After the hour passes, a voice comes on indicating your float is now complete. You're to exit the pod at this time and shower again. While I was showering, the filtration system in the pod comes on filtering and cleaning the water you just exited from. Once dressed, there is a primping station down the hall. They have lotions, deodorant, individually wrapped combs, q-tips, a hair dryer. I brought my own personal effects but this is good to know in the event you'd like to travel light. Once ready, I relaxed in the common area. Made some tea and just took everything in. I felt a calming sensation. At ease. Super relaxed. I could've gone to sleep. We stuck around for maybe 15-20 minutes. Once we were ready to depart, we visited the front desk and paid for our time. $93 later, I really enjoyed myself. The front desk woman was super pleasant and explained everything perfectly. This may be something I choose to do at the end of every year to cleanse myself of what the year has done and to prepare myself for what's to come. This place has helped me an incredible amount. I got in a major accident 14 months ago - with a cal Alejo is (heel) fracture and although I'd been doing PT, I started floating after a recommendation from a friend who's a sports massage who said her athletes like to Float to recover quicker from injuries. Floating has really been what's helped my muscles relax so I can keep strengthening them, and my gait noticeably improved a day or 2 after each session. The staff here are wonderful, and it's a very relaxing, serene environment to shrug off the day and feel wonderfully pampered by the end. This is my second time here. First time, I tried the pod and this time I tried the suite. I prefer the suite. Fyi, the suite doesn't have music. If you want music, book the pod. The suite gave me a sense of being free. There was a bit of construction going on , in the building next door but I swear I didn't hear it while I was in the suite. I gave this place a 4/5 because I felt the owner wasn't really friendly (to me). I came in, right before a couple (who came in after me) and she made more conversation with them . I did the room float around 34 weeks pregnant because I was so uncomfortable and needed to take some pressure off of my body. The temperature was very comfortable and overall it was a pleasant experience. My only recommendation is that the floor in the hall and room is VERY slippery and falling at 34 weeks pregnant is extremely dangerous. I was so worried about slipping that it was difficult to relax. I am currently listening to the audiobook How to Change Your Mind, which explores how psychedelics can take you to a different plane and change your worldview. So now I feel I have the vocabulary to describe what some people might experience in a sensory deprivation tank. Lift, and other proponents of sensory deprivation tanks writ large, posit that when you literally have weight lifted off your shoulders, you can access your subconscious. They suggest that when you subtract all stimuli, including even the sensation of your clothes on your skin, your mind can be freed to wander to places only seasoned meditators have ventured. I had the option of choosing from a float pod or float room. If you don't like tight spaces you'd want to pick the room, which has higher ceilings. I wanted to feel like I was inside a womb and so I chose the pod. I was instructed to shower before entering the pod and appreciated that the shower was inside the private room where the pod was and that it was stocked with some really nice products. The Epsom salt in the pod kept me afloat and I couldn't even flip over if I had tried. I chose to forgo the option of playing music or a podcast and proceeded to close my eyes. I prepared for a transcendent experience. I kept drifting to the sides, which I found very distracting. For the most part, I was not able to quell my overactive mind. Before I knew it, my hour was up. I think everyone's experience will be unique to each individual and so I'd take my anecdote with a grain of [Epsom] salt. I would recommend Lift to veteran and newbie floaters alike, if only for the novelty of it and for how clean the space is. I'm told it takes a few tries before you can reach that transcendent experience, but I don't really have the budget for that. read more

Such a lovely space. You enter this beautiful relaxation area. They ask you to remove your shoes before entering, which I love! The relaxation area is very plush has all of these pillows and a notebook to write experiences in or read others. The room for the float was standard. Cannot remember anything to significant about it. They have the pod tanks which I like. Once the automatic lights turn off it's completely dark in the tank and very quiet. The water in the tanks are a bit warm which builds up a lot of humidity over time. It became quite uncomfortable as my time went on. I wish it was a few degrees lower. There is no rush for you to leave or move when in the relaxation area. There was lots of material to take in if you chose to, but it was also quiet if you wanted to just sit and ease yourself into going back out in the world. Awesome experience!! This was my first time trying a sensory deprivation tank and it was amazing! I wish I had tried it sooner. The staff and the ambience at the spa was wonderful as well, and I felt so at ease upon entering. They first prepare you for the float with an introductory video so you'll know what to expect. They offer two types of floats here, either the evolution pod or a suite which has starlights and is more spacious in comparison. Apparently the pod comes with music, but the suite doesn't. Both comes equipped with a shower and items to prepare you for entering the float (e.g., ear plugs, towels, petroleum jelly, etc). I had the most amazing experience here at the float spa. When I first heard about the float spa, it was pretty intriguing. And I saw float spa deal on groupon and after my research, I decided to try this place as it looked clean and new with pods that I wanted to try. Once I bought the groupon and called to ask some questions and to book, every receptionist/professional was so friendly and helpful. The whole process takes about an hour and a half to 2 hours. There's a small lounge area by the reception. It's really small so it's not really a relaxing spa area like other typical spas. It's more like a waiting area. Before you arrive and make a reservation, there's 2 choices, a room or a pod. Rooms are supposed to be a bit bigger but I chose a pod since that's the main reason I was doing the float spa. Each room/pod area has a quick shower function. I wish the area where I can store my belongings can be covered but water didn't reach that area anyway so it's fine. The shower/storage area is small. But the pod! It was much bigger than I had imagined. I floated right away and within minutes I was so comfortable. It was better than lying on my own bed. I realized why people do float spa then. The relaxing music playing, the entire space to myself and I was so comfortable where I could even sleep if I was tired. I even felt like my muscles were being relaxed. My only complaint is that the area where I was able to get ready after the float spa session was over was really tiny and unisex. Only one person could fit in there and blow dry hair or get ready. Well, the lift spa isn't that big so that's understandable as well. It was definitely a unique spa that I have never experienced and a good one. I'll try a room next time I come back! read more

After much research I decided to try Lift Floats in Brooklyn. They had good reviews, good hours and easy to get to by public transportation from Queens. It's in a lovely neighborhood and the building fits in nicely. After walking up the flight of stairs to the entrance, I was greeted by a lovely young lady at reception. I signed in and was asked to watch a short intro video. The reception area was very clean, smelled lovely and gentle music was playing in the background... I think. Actually just sitting in the waiting area was relaxing! The young lady showed me to the room and explained everything I needed to know very thoroughly. She asked if I had any questions - I had none. I'm giving 4/5 stars because while all shower products were supplied - everything was scented. Lavender and something else, neither of them I liked. SUGGESTION: either bring your own products or the owners should provide unscented products. I was also very thirsty and hungry after the soak, good thing I brought a bottle of water and energy bar to eat. Thy provide some tea which is lovely, but for what your paying I think bottled water and some snacks would be a great addition! The pod was very clean as was the shower area and room. A little background, I am a long-time floater, have floated at many places around the country. Lift does an amazing job at creating an environment that's inviting, peaceful, upscale, safe, and sanitary. If you have never floated before, keep this in mind: your SECOND float is actually your first float. First time floating/in a sensory deprivation tank is about discovery ("how does this feel?", "where do I put my arms?", "I am stuck in my head", etc. etc.) -- while the 2nd float, you've answered all those questions, and can get deeper and really be in the experience. Trust me, give more than one float a chance. On that note, Lift creates beautiful energy before and after the float, keep the facility well stocked and clean, and the float rooms keep the flow of the design of the space. I tried my first ever float session here -- and I'm glad I did. Was in the mood to zone out and get away from the world on my day off. When I first checked in on an iPad, everything went smoothly. Instructions let you know how the whole float process will work. I got a room with a pod, and it was great to zone out for an hour and a half. I like that the place is clean and minimalist to give it that solitary but modern vibe. I'd recommend getting a massage or stretching before your float though because as I was in the pod I was very aware of all the pains in my back which kept me from going into a more meditative state. They have hair dryers and changing stations and a private shower within the float room itself once you want to wash out all the salt from your hair. The other nice aspect of the float service is that you can just relax in the lounge area afterwards and drink a tea. It was nice to talk to a couple other people while we chilled out for a half hour afterwards. This is definitely a nice treat when you're looking for a day to get away from people and zone out. A unique experience. I have been wanting to try the spa for a long time and my husband got it for me as a mother's day gift. Got the room instead of a pod for more space (the shower was in the room). During the float, I managed to really slow down and go in a meditative state. Started getting a bit restless in the last 10-15 minutes but that was fine. The post float experience, however, managed to undo a lot of that. The shower kept clogging while I was using. I was soon standing in a pool of backed-up water (not the kind of soak I had in mind!). I had to keep turning it off to let it drain before trying again, Didn't really happen happen. While dressing, I dropped something behind the little bench they have in the room and had to move it. Yeah, the place hadn't been cleaned in a long while! Came out and told the staff about the shower. Both the men shrugged it off. The guy behind the desk said that the problem with the drain is that a lot of hair gets stuck in it and they have to remove and pull it out after each use (obviously hadn't been done before I went in there) and then something more about his gag reflex (I had stopped listening at this point). Came out of the experience nauseous. The actual float was something I would like to try again but the dodgy hygiene and weird service was the deciding nay factor. read more

I thoroughly enjoyed first sensory deprivation tank experience at Lift/ Next Level Floats. I've read about this experience and have always wanted to try. It wasn't until I got a gift certificate for Christmas that I made me pull the trigger. First off, I highly recommend eating an edible before. Mind-Body experience. Second off, the mechanics behind the experience is pretty straight forward. A shower is provided in the corner of the room to use before and after the pod. I should've known pods are big but I was taken aback when I first saw it. Its like the size of a small minivan in a room. Towels, earplugs and headrest are all provided. The lights in the room are motion sensored and there are only two buttons in the pod - to control the music and lights. People say the hour feels like 15. I'm the type of person that gets antsy at the thought of sitting for a Broadway show so an hour in dark silence I questioned if I could handle it. I checked my phone after I was done playing around and there were only 10 minutes left. Time flies when you're flying!! Afterwards there's an uber-relaxing lounge area. The workers were really nice and accommodating. The whole place had a very "chill Brooklyn bro who likes to ride his bike around and drink Matcha" vibe. I was kind of into it as I saw this more of a spa experience. There were moments I felt like a lily in a pond. There were moments where I felt like a fetus in the universe. My boyfriend and I visited Lift Floats two weeks ago after finding them on Groupon. We've tried a few other spots in the city but decided to try them out since it's close to us. It's also a treat because floats aren't cheap. The first thing the lady at the front desk says to us is "just so you know, we have the same price in stores as we do on Groupon." Well, I wouldn't of found you if it wasn't for Groupon? The experience was good, relaxing and the facility was clean. Downside: We gave her our Groupons when checking in and thought everything was fine. The Monday after, I have a charge on my bank account for $186 for something I already paid for. I get things happen but when I contacted them, they don't always answer the phone until calling 3 times and they didn't even apologize for something that was their mistake. Fine, whatever. They said they'd issue a refund and it should be posted on my account within 5-7 business days. Well we're going on the 10th day and still nothing is refunded and no apology is given. Just blaming it on their system "taking time to post it on their end." I've also emailed them again regarding this issue and still no response. Very upset because I really wanted to like this place but they're being anything but accommodating. Now we are charged $400 for a mistake that was made by them. read more

My boyfriend took me floating as a birthday gift. I heard about it in Thailand and had been meaning to try it. Lucky me, my bf is a great listener and gave me the opportunity to experience floating a few weeks ago. Before going I read a lot about how floating is great for writer's block, which I have a serious case of right now, and so I was really looking forward to having this mystical experience. Unfortunately, I can't say floating cured my block - in fact, I fell asleep inside the tank. (I opted to turn off all the lights and the music) I asked one of the workers if this was good or bad and she said it means I was really relaxed and comfortable. While that is great, I don't think I would want to pay that much money in the future for a 40 minute nap... I also asked what were other reasons people used floating and she said it supposedly helps people with injuries heal faster, others use it for mediation, and it also is supposed to help people with autism somehow. My bf get out of his tank before his hour was up because he said he was bored (he also turned off all the lights and music), so it wasn't the life altering experience that folks rave for either of us. As for the facility, it was clean and quit and very serene. My bf had a great time playing with the kaleidoscopes in the post floating lounge, and they have an area in the back where you can blow dry your hair and use their qtips, etc. to get ready. read more

I wanted to like the concept of Lift Next Level Floats. I wish I bought into the whole clearing-your-mind meditation thing. But that's just not me; I'm a worrier, I think way to much. This review is purely on my own personal experience. Others may completely differ in opinion. I got this as a Christmas present from my boyfriend, who was very excited for me to do his whole thing. He got one for his sister too, and we both did it on the same day. She didn't like it either for similar reasons. The staff was super friendly. When I walked in, I waited in their "lounge" type area. The pod was ready in 10 minutes, and one of the guys explained what I would be doing. Take a shower before you enter the pod (unclothed). Make sure to wipe your face dry otherwise you'll be tempted to touch it (with your salty hands) when you're inside the pod. Etc., etc. When I first got in, I noticed that the pod didn't shut completely- i could see a halo of light. Didn't matter, since I'd be closing my eyes. The temperature of the water is supposed to match your body temperature, but I still found it chilly. I could hear foot steps of outsiders while in the pod (even with the ear plugs in). Floating wasn't an issue, but my neck/upper back hurt the way I naturally floated and I had to push my head down further under the water to prevent the pain. Probably the biggest problem I had with the whole experience was the timing. One hour is way too long to be stuck in a pod floating... I ended up trying to force myself to fall asleep (which I did for ~20 min) just to pass the time. Otherwise I'd just be thinking about when this whole session would be OVER. When I woke up my body hurt because a layer of salt had formed on the exposed portions of my body. When it was finally done, I got out and took a shower. There aren't any locker rooms or anything. The room where you pod and shower is is where you change. By the end, the floor was very very wet! I couldn't try properly because the room was so wet, and had difficulty putting my jeans on (girls, you know exactly what I'm referring to). My hair was soaking wet and so were my feet. The floor was sacked, and even laying my towel down didn't help.There is one dryer you can use in the back, but this guy was using it so I ended up walking out with wet hair and combing my hair in the lounge. All in all, I'm glad I did this for the experience. Not worth the $90 in my opinion. read more

Pro: the scheduled session started right on time and the staff was able to move my boyfriend's session, which was going to start half an hour later than mine, to the same time as mine so we could start together. Pro: the individual rooms come equipped with a shower with shampoo, conditioner, body wash and vinegar for getting the salt out of your ears afterwards, and a bench with two towels, petroleum jelly to put on any open cuts to protect them from the salt water (it will sting) and ear plugs. Pro: when you turn off all the lights in the floating room, you actually feel like you're in another world - weightless, soundless, lightless, motionless. Pro: if you get too antsy being in the complete darkness, you can adjust the tub lights and the ceiling lights. Con: one hour felt too long for me; the first 45 minutes or so were perfect but then I started fluttering around and moving my limbs to stay sane. My first float was in 2016 or 2017 at Lift, BK I remember feeling mentally recharged and refreshed, just overall relaxed. However I didn't make it part of my life routine. I'm writing this review about 3 hours after finishing my 4th floating session here. 2017 was the year in which I began to really incorporate a meditation practice into my daily routine, and it wasn't long until I stumbled upon sensory deprivation/float tanks...which naturally led me to find the nearest float spa, Lift Next Level Floats. A bit of background/history: first developed in 1954 for research purposes by physician & neuroscientist Dr. John Lilly, float tanks have been around for decades--but they have really taken off in popularity only in the last 10 years or so. This is probably no mere coincidence, considering the degree to which smartphones, social media, and the Internet in general have permeated our day-to-day lives within that same time span. Aside from the distractions that these technologies bring into our daily existence, another problem is that our senses are being bombarded at an unprecedented rate. One could make the anthropological argument that our primitive brains were not meant to handle this level of sensory input, and that a lot of the mental health problems we observe among the population (depression, anxiety, ADHD) are downstream of that. The irony that I am using social media to get this message across is not lost on me. OK, I'll get off my soapbox now. I visited Lift for my first float session about 8 months ago, and since then, I have discovered something I wish I could do more often, but can't quite afford (yet). Spending an hour in a float tank is like meditation on steroids--you are deprived of as much sensory deprivation as humanly possible until you are *forced* into a zone of complete silence, darkness, nothingness, which are the conditions many people strive to recreate during intense meditation. There's nothing quite like it. My review of the experience is not about the experience itself, since there isn't much actually "happening"--you lie supine (face up), naked, in a shallow pool of heavily salinated (epsom salt) water that is approximately isothermic to your skin for an hour, staring into space and alone with your thoughts. How your body and mind respond to this unusual "powered down" state and how you feel afterwards is where the real magic is. Ever notice how when you leave your computer or electronic device on for too long, things sometimes act up--only to return to normal when you restart it? That's the best analogy I can think of for the effects of sensory deprivation. Every time I finish a floating session, I feel much calmer, my vision is sharper, and I can relax better. I let go of the baggage and am reminded of how it feels to revert back to a natural, unperturbed state. A few things about Lift itself. The place is always well-staffed and clean. As I mentioned, there isn't a whole lot actually going on during the experience, so customer service is limited to preparing your suite beforehand and cleaning up afterwards. Nevertheless, the people who work here have always been kind and willing to answer any questions I had. There is a lounge area in the middle where you can help yourself to refreshments, hang out with other guests, and check our their collection of books and cool widgets (pictured below). As with all things in NYC, the services are expensive...a single float session normally costs $99, with the price per session being cheaper if you purchase multiple. I started with an introductory float offer which was 3 floats for $199, which comes out to around $66 per session. I went 3 times between April and September of last year (2-3 months from each other). On Black Friday, they ran a promotion which was buy 2 (full price @ $99 each), get 2 free...so 4 floats at around $50 per session, which is much more reasonable. As I mentioned above, floating is amazing but not something I can do on the reg, but it's a welcome reprieve every now and then from the cumulative stresses of daily life. Highly recommend that everybody at least try it once! P.S. Pro-tip: whatever you do, make sure to take care of all your personal business BEFORE you enter the tank; by that, I mean using the bathroom, covering up any open cuts/wounds, removing your contacts, etc. During my first float session, I felt an itch in my eye, and immediately went to scratch it with my hand that had been dipped in epsom salt for the past 30 minutes--BAD MOVE. I came here with my sister for some needed R&R. I was in the pool while my sister was in the pod. Both were super clean and staff was friendly. They also have a hang out area for before and after your float for some extra relaxation. Theres an assortment of teas and some books. Highly recommend, especially after a long week! read more

Today was my first float. I was skeptical at best. But I booked it this morning and just went. It's clean. The staff is helpful and friendly. I chose a pod. It's not claustrophobic AT ALL. I thought it might be but it's not. You can touch the corners with your arms stretched super wide and can't touch heel and head. And you can sit up in the pod. Someone said it's like an interior of a minivan and that's accurate. The water was a good temp. I opted to turn the music and lights off after adjusting into the float. I'm pretty relaxed and while there were moments during the float I wasn't sure I would do it again I now think I will (I'm not a "good" relaxer). It was a fascinating experience. The hype is real! I'm pretty claustrophobic and was really nervous the first time I went; now I'm hooked! Honestly for me I found it better than a massage; my body relaxed so much, and I felt every muscle release and unwind. Second time in and I fell deep asleep and also slept so well that night. This was my very first float experience & i was so excited & i read reviews on this place and other places, I chose to come here. The place is was nice but my experience wasn't so nice unfortunately. The worker by the front was friendly but did not explain anything to me. My session was not as it should've been & it kind of ruined it for me as apparently you're supposed to have the lights turned off after 10 mins of ur session. I asked him if i should wear ear plus he said he doesn't wear his & I don't have to if I don't want to, so of course I took an example from him & did the same & that was a mistake. He never told me how i would find out my session was over. Yesterday I went ear candling because the salt got in my ears so bad it makes cracking noise & even after ear candling i still have the same issue. 1. Lights were not turned off 2. I heard some noises, especially when next cabinet was getting water cleaned it disturbed me 3. Not putting ear plus brought a whole bunch of salt in my ears lol 4. They kept knocking on my door when my session finished & i was in the shower (twice?) if i KNEW when my session was over or how much time I have left, I would've been out of the room way beforehand & no knocking would've been needed. 5. When i was in the bath, the water started rumbling like jacuzzi & i was confused if the session was over or if that was normal. 6. After the session i felt a bit rushed & they did not say where they have hair blowdryers (good thing it was warm outside & i just left as I was). 7. They charged me twice (i checked my bank accnt next day by accident noticed it) i called them & he said "oh yea looks like we did u want to use that as store credit since u don't have another float session with us booked?"....i found it very unprofessional & they didn't apologize for overcharging me. This place is clean and nice but please inform every client who walks in about what they need to know about the session. In business you have to realize "client does not NEED the service, they WANT it." And if you double charge someone, be on top of it & apologize. read more

The front desk and the overall vibe of the place is nice. This was my first float after a friend recommended it. I did the pod. Bc it was new to me it was challenging to relax so I ended up floating with my eyes open just thinking. I started to look at the inside of the pod and the closed lid. These aren't cleaned very well. At all. They should be scrubbed from top to bottom. Seeing clumps of dirt all over the inside lid over me and around the hinges of the lid made me get out earlier than the allotted time. I was grossed out, immediately took a shower and just couldn't wait to get home to take another one. Needless to say, I won't be returning. read more

What an amazing experience. Floated for the first time. I chose the room rather than the pod because I have claustrophobia, although I think I'll test out the pod next time. It was wonderful- beautifully lit with stars on the ceiling. The one hour time felt sufficient. It was very clean. You shower before and after in your private cabin. They have tea and lavender scented towels after the session along with journals to write in. Excellent service at the front desk as well. read more

Very interesting experience. The spa is very clean, the service is very friendly. The shower was amazing, I did not try the pod itself, I got the room instead, which i enjoyed a lot. There is no music in the room, only in the pods. If you drive here, definitely give yourself extra time, parking is hard to find. Very relaxing thing to do if you are feeling stressed. read more
