It's a really interesting setup, where basically you have a small shower area, then you step into the floating room through a hatch. An attendant shows you in and explains everything to you. There are some ear plugs which they recommended (and I used). There are three buttons within easy reach- a button that turns on/off the overhead star-pattern lights, a button that turns on/off the pool lights (a cool blue), and an emergency button (which I never had to use but was glad to know it was there). I stepped in and it was warmer than I expected. I went to lie down and it felt like I was being carried. I found myself stretching and then pushing off gently to the edges of the space. Then I turned off the lights. It was amazing. It felt like what I imagine zero-G feels like. It was amazing. Throughout I tried various light combinations and found I preferred no light the most. It was so dark I couldn't tell when my eyes were open or closed. At the end, there is some soft spa sounds which you can *feel* as much as you hear. It felt like I was being held aloft by sound. At the end of it, I came out feeling relaxed and refreshed in that same sort of way you feel at the end of a massage. It was a bucket list item for me and I am so excited to go back. read more

Saw about these magnesium float pods on the news. They even have rooms for the claustrophobic.My first time was great ,showers very european style in same room with pod, towels,shampoo, body wash,earplugs. Just make sure to put your clothes in cubby not on top or you will get salt residue on them like me,next time I will know. I took some time to get comfortable,water was warm turned on button for sound system playing some new age style music instrumental and got comfortable with pod closed. It was a little too warm after 1/2 hour so i opened pod lights came on for a minute then went off again. I came out very relaxed. I will definitely go back again! I have pain issues and certainly this helped ease some of it. read more

My first experience at Lift last year was better than I could have anticipated. I was coming off an emotional morning and the relaxing and dark environment of the tank (in the room, not the pod) was just what I needed to reset my mood. While, it didn't take long for my body to find a really comfortable position, it took quite a while longer for my mind to settle into putting aside a million thoughts racing through it. Once it did, I felt like I was floating through space and started moving around, feeling my back crack and realign itself with the wonders of no gravity. I was glad the receptionist had advised me to put the little towel within close distance in case I had a itch on my face that needed scratching. Wipe off your hand first as you don't want salt water getting into your eyes. My second experience was almost exactly a year later and while my body felt good, my mind took even longer to relax. As I was getting into the tank, I noticed something on the wall that should have been cleaned off before I had gotten in. I didn't say anything and tried to ignore it but that definitely contributed to what was on my mind. Once my brain quieted down, and that timeframe will obviously be different for everyone, I felt so relaxed that I almost fell asleep. At one point, I snapped out of it, felt really refreshed and ready to get out but it felt like another 20 minutes until the music came on to signal the end of my session. I heard the water cycling through the tank as I was showering, which made me feel good about the cleanliness of the water. I do wish they were more thorough about wiping down the tanks on a more regular basis and would have said something were I not already naked and in the water. People noted that they heard things like people walking and doors closing. I did too but we live in NYC. This isn't the place to be if you need total silence, and if you expect that, then you're always going to be disappointed. read more

I tried this out as I had a bunch of class pass points to burn and I don't regret it. The front desk was very welcoming and personable. They make you sign a waiver and then watch an intro video so you have an idea (put earplugs in first, shower beforehand but no conditioner, how the buttons work, how they will tell you your time is ending, don't get the solution in your eyes, and shower well afterwards, conditioner after is OK). The room I was given was small but very clean and had everything I needed. A shower, ear plugs, petroleum jelly (for cuts), body towel, face towel, hanger for my clothes, and body wash/shampoo/conditioner dispenser on the wall. (I have psoriasis, so I brought my own toiletries though I did use their shampoo and it smelled citrusy delicious.) I'll just come out and say that 1 hour is too long for a first timer. I was reminded of my very first meditation class where the instructor mentioned we would end with a 5 minute meditation and the whole class wanted to know why we couldn't do it longer. The teacher said, very matter of factly, "You are all beginners who are not yet ready nor prepared for that kind of journey of the mind. Some of you might uncover things you weren't ready to deal with in a public space and some of you might get incredibly bored. You need training and practice and you will gradually be able to increase the time you can spend clearing your mind. In the meantime, this first 5 minutes may well feel like the longest 5 minutes you have sat through." I got maybe about 20 minutes (time has no real meaning, in there) of complete, dark, stillness, floating, with the door completely shut, and only the sound of my heartbeat for company and then suddenly everything was too much. The room was too enclosed, the air too heavy, my face suddenly wet, everything was too hot. So I propped the door open a little and floated a few minutes more with a cooler breeze, through the door on my body, to focus on and made it about 5 more minutes. Then I had to sit up and then had to wipe my face with my towel and I spent maybe an additional 20 minutes trying to lay back down but had disturbed the water so much that I was bouncing from wall to wall to wall and then developed a headache and nausea that I realized after a bit, was motion sickness. Yup, I got seasick in 10" of water. Sigh. So I decided to end my session early and give myself more time with a cleansing shower. The music that tells you your session is nearing the end came on while I was in the shower so I wasn't too far off the mark in my time estimations. I came out of the room glowing, with soft skin, and feeling buoyant, positive, and happy, in spite of the headache and nausea. Overall, I I think this is something that is definitely worth repeating and I think will get better for me, as I get more used to being alone with me, my thoughts, and I. On a separate note: I have moderate/heavy psoriasis, right now. I've scratched open most of my plaques on my arms, legs, and back in the recent week. I was VERY nervous about how much the salt bath would sting. The front desk was super sweet and gave me enough petroleum jelly packets to cover my whole body twice. I only used 2 on the worst of the open plaques on my legs and then held my breath getting in. It was not nearly as bad as I was afraid the sting would be. It was on par with when I first step into the shower in the morning with all my open plaques (from scratching all night). It's not pleasant but after a minute of hissing, it settles down into a dull ache. Nothing I couldn't handle and easier to ignore than ignoring my usually itchy feeling skin. All my plaques seem to have deflated in thickness, since my float, though the itching is exactly the same intensity as before the float. So there's that, too :) read more

Once of my favorite things about New York is being able to try things that probably wouldn't be available in smaller places. Sensory deprivation float tanks? Cool! The lobby was very chilly when I walked in, but I was greeted by the receptionist. I was told to take off my shoes since the rooms can be wet from the showers and then wait in the waiting area. The floors are cement and I was really cold at this point. I was shown to my pod and given brief instructions about the steps before and after the float. I kind of wish there was a changing area either outside of the room with a robe or a place away from the shower in the room to change. I struggled to change and not get all of my clothes wet, since the shelf was literally next to the shower and there was a client right before me. I kept dropping things on the wet floor. This is the real problem I had - the neck pillow was totally deflated. It wasn't something I could blow up as it looked to me like it needed a pump. I think I may have been more comfortable with a pillow - without one, my ears were completely submerged and my ear plugs kept popping out. I was told the pillow was optional, and I was soaking wet and naked so I didn't really want to walk out to the reception to tell them. The floating aspect was neat, but I didn't have the most relaxing time because I was struggling to find a comfortable position with my head and kept having to pop the earplugs back in for fear my ears were getting filled with salt water. I still have a slight swimmers ear type feeling.I didn't fall asleep and at no point was I like "wow, I am so comfortable". To be fair, I have a really hard time turning off my thoughts, but it is much harder when my thoughts are 'God I wish this pillow was working at all because my neck hurts". I kept leaving the tank and standing anxiously in the cold pod room wondering what to do. I ended up leaving early because I got so frustrated. The area to blow dry my hair was already occupied, so I awkwardly stood in my room until I heard the dryer go off. When I finally blow dried and left, the waiting area was full of blissed out post-floaters and there wasn't really much room to sit. I was feeling very flustered and honestly a little disoriented about the whole experience, and the receptionist (someone different than when I came in) didn't tell me to sit and have tea or anything so I just got my coat and left. I am sure floating can be very relaxing and amazing - my friends who have floated love it. I just didn't have the same experience. read more

Love this place so much! First off, floating is amazing; it makes you feel so calm/relaxed, and you can do so much/or so little with your experience and your mind each time you go in. Personally, I like to set an intention for my experience before I float, for example, if I am having anxiety about something and I go into the float tank, once my body is completely relaxed (which happens quickly), I am able to view the problem from a much calmer place and really assess the best way to approach a solution. I have had floats where I just relax, and kind of space out, not focusing on much. I have had floats where I purposefully set an intention of meditation, which have turned into amazing visualization trips almost akin to LSD, but I was completely sober. I have done past life regressions on myself during a float. I have had incredible experiences, and even if you go just intending to calm and relax your body, it will be a worthwhile experience. It is hard to predict where your mind will take you before you float, and I kind of just go with it each time. I have floated probably 10 times and have never had a bad experience. Prepare to be a bit dazed and spaced afterwards, and drink lots of water. The staff is amazing and super accommodating. I just love this place! Super clean and awesome set up. Would highly recommend, and totally worth the cost, which I thought was high at the beginning, but now I think is completely reasonable. Thank you for existing Lift! I booked a group lift for two people only to arrive and be told that we couldn't float at the same time. We were actually told that it wasn't possible for two rooms to be used at once. It sounded untrue, but even if that was the case, I booked a group lift at a single specific time to ensure that we floated at the same time. At no point in the reservation process were the two separate times disclosed. You'd think the system itself wouldn't allow you to make the reservation if that was the case. I asked to do one float and reschedule the other. I was told that would be considered a cancellation. Ugh. So I'm penalized for your misrepresentation. Spent more than an hour waiting to float. Obviously, I wasn't able to have a positive experience during the float because I was so triggered by the disrespect and powerlessness of this interaction made me feel. Extremely disappointing. I came here today for the first time and the staff was very pleasant. The place was clean but two thing turn me off. I found some one else's hair in the Pod I used. Ewww that creeped me the hell out and the water was not warm enough to blend with my body temperature. If it wasn't for that I would of enjoyed this experience a lot more. So I'm not going to give a rating based off of my personal experience while in the pod... How that goes is entirely up to the individual and no way reflects on the business itself. I went with 4 other people and their experiences ranged from seeing Divinci, seeing a rug wearing pants, complete relaxation, and laying in tepid water for an hour. With that being said, this place is awesome! The customer service is great and the space is set up perfectly for the experience you're about to dive into. The pods / suites are well appointmented and top of the line to ensure you have the best experience possible... Personally, I plan to go back again soon with a few other friends to hit that same level of relaxation and share an amazing experience with some of my boys. read more

I went here last night with my wife. I probably won't detail everything since it seems that most people do that already. The entrance/lobby was very pleasant, dimly lit and comfortable. the reception was warm and friendly. I'm a little claustrophobic so I chose the suite over the pod. But looking at the size of the pods, I think I would have been comfortable. Everything is very clean. the showers have very nice water pressure and the shampoo and soap is of good quality. The suite is fantastic. It's completely private, (which is good news since you're supposed to float in your birthday suite) The floating space is huge, and the lights (if you keep them on, are very cool. Water is human body temperature, so you feel like you're floating in space...very nice. Also, there are "star" lights on the ceiling which are also kinda cool. But the point of sensory deprivation is, of course, to turn it all off. Which I did. And here we have success. Once I turned off the lights, it was pure bliss. No light could get through, and I was in perfect darkness. Afterwards, I re-showered, dressed, and chilled with a cup of tea in the lounge before leaving. Overall, an excellent experience, I highly recommend. read more

Maybe I did it wrong? LOL Okay 1st off, it was easy to find. I was running a bit late and had a meeting RIGHT after, so I think this may have also added some stress. The receptionist/owner possibly was very nice and my friend who arrived earlier of course, got an extensive how to's but again, I had to be rushed which is all my fault. I showered, unclothed and got into the room (I decided to let my friend try the pod, since there was only one available and I was the one that lured her into doing this with me.) The only thing I really remember being told about the room were the buttons that start and stop the lights, and Music will begin playing at the end of my session. So I laid there, pushed the button and "TRIED" to relax. Well I couldn't really, because "am i doing this right?". I heard my heartbeat, but that was annoying. Wish I had soothing music. I'm all about spending money on crap, so I really want to give this another try using the pod. At the end we felt refreshed and calm when we left, but I attributed that to the epsom salt. I couldn't really wait for my session to be done. I really tried to open my mind and I really tried to read all of these reviews and business responses over and over again. But honestly, if my friend who used the pod said she felt any differently, then I would have said you know what...maybe it was just me. Sigh. (Ill be back? LOL) read more

I went here last weekend for my first float . Amongst the other sensory deprivation tanks, this one seemed to have the best pictures and I was immediately drawn into its modern look. As I arrive into Lift however, the 2 receptionists in the center was more occupied in the conversation they were having. I didn't feel very welcomed, and when my friend asked questions, they answered very briefly and went back to their own conversation about wedding dresses. We waited for a while, and after that we got escorted to our rooms. At this point, I was still pretty excited. I lay down in the pod and started to float. However, I felt really uncomfortable. My head was heavy and I felt a lot of tension on my neck. I wondered to myself whether I was doing this right. Afterwards, I realize that my friend was given a floating pillow while I didn't. The staff barely did anything to compensate for this mistake. I was the one who pointed it out to them, and they went to the room and came back only to say I was right, there were no pillows. Due to this significant amount of time tensing my neck, I felt really sick on the way home. The next morning, I had a terrible migraine and had to take a couple of tylenol to feel better. I believe I was feeling seasick from the experience. I believe the staff should have a procedure to check whether everything is okay in the room before the customer enters the room. An additional advice for the lift is also to inform new time floats with more information. Me and my friend got our eyes burnt due to the epsom salt. At one point I had to go outside the pod and wash my face because the burning was unbearable. I think they should point out the important precautions for floating for new timers instead of simply handing out a back-to-back laminated card with instructions. They can't expect us to remember all the steps (there are a LOT of them, 2 pages worth of steps) with one read. If they're not going to brief us, at least provide these instructions in the room? read more

My friend gifted me a float session for my birthday. I was super excited and a bit anxious to come try the float room. I opted for the room rather than the pod as they said first-timers might be more comfortable here. Everything seemed clean enough, staffing was a bit odd - lots of young dudes, you can hear peoples footsteps while you're floating which is a bit distracting. They should encourage folks to walk softly and quietly through the hallway. About the float itself, it was pretty amazing. I had some crazy lucid dream. When you opt for the room there is no music, which was kind of a bummer and the ceiling stars were too bright and flashing different colors, there was no way to stop them on a single color so I ended up just turning them off. I'll definitely return to try the pod and felt good afterward. read more

I want to preface this review with a quick overview of what "floating" is for those who don't know much about it: Float tanks are basically designed to provide a zero gravity experience that is therapeutic for your body and mind. The water tank that you float in is perfectly warm and alienated so that your body "floats" and your muscles can fully relax. You can either float in a totally dark and quiet tank for the true sensory deprivation experience or have light and sound on if that's not your thing. It's equally popular with athletes who have injuries/pain as it is with more hippie types (like yours truly) who are interested in meditation and bodywork. While the floating trend was big in the 70s it seems to be getting more popular. I've really wanted to try it but it's hard to find nice spaces that you can float in especially on the East coast. I was super psyched that Lift opened prettyvclose to my neighb and was even more impressed when I saw the space! It's really gorgeous and thoughtfully designed with both floating pods and larger chamber-like tanks you can float in for those who want a less enclosed space. So.. on to the float! After a tour of the space and a rundown on how to operate the light and music in the tank, I was ready. Floating is not meant to be like a day spa and it's not like getting a massage, but it was a nice combo of physically relaxing and pampering. What is most amazing is how my body seemed to melt into the water to the point that its hard to perceive the space around me. It felt very like a meditative state.. I was able to drift into a very relaxed sense of time and awareness of myself in my body. I felt physically and mentally refreshed after the 60 minute float was over and slept incredibly well that night. I will definitely be back again soon and recommend the floating experience to anyone who could use a little R&R!! read more

I had been interested in floating for a while, but was a little wary due to my brother-in-law having a seemingly bad float experience. However, after checking in they had me watch a short tutorial to prepare me and I knew immediately he did not pay attention to anything they had said before floating, altering his experience for the negative. He did not use the provided ear putty to prevent salt from entering his ears. He did not cover any cuts with the vaseline provided. I was immediately reassured that we were going to have two totally different experiences. (To be honest, he is also someone who is fairly incapable of going for an hour without talking, so I know that played into his adverse reaction as well.) My float was wonderful! The staff was extremely helpful and kind. I chose the room over the pod for my first foray into floating, as I was unsure how I would react to a confined space. The room was clean, inviting, and felt totally secure. I began my float with the overhead starlight feature on in order to orient myself, but soon chose to turn it off. The hour of floating was very relaxing and fascinating to see where my mind traveled, especially once I stopped thinking about the float itself. I feel that in doing this again, that time of focus on the physicality of floating (am I going to touch the side? should I use the neck/head ring? do I keep my eyes open or closed?) will be negated and I will just float right in to my own head, while having my body feel totally at ease. I highly recommend floating here and, after being shown one of the pod rooms by the staff, I think that next time I will just go for in in one of those. I'm looking forward to it already! read more

[Preface: My 2-star review has nothing to do with the facility or the staff - all lovely. No complaints there. I just think I'm in that very small percentile of people for whom floating doesn't "work".] I think I floated wrong. While waiting for my session, I read through the messages people had left in the books (on the coffee table). All of the messages were so grateful and talked about what a transformative and transcendent experience they'd had. I'd done just a small amount of research before booking; I read some articles, some reviews and watched a number of YouTube videos on floating. I found them all fascinating, interesting and informative. I was definitely looking forward to the appointment. I knew better than to go into my float session with too many ridiculously fantastic expectations of seeing images, colors, shapes, dead relatives or finding the cure for cancer lurking in my subconscious. No. I went in thinking, if nothing else, I'd come out feeling relaxed, refreshed and maybe a little more centered within myself. I spent the first 10 minutes in the pod worried that I hadn't put the ear plugs in correctly and that I'd get water in my ears (a serious pet peeve of mine). I got a headache while floating. Huh? What? How? I don't know. But my head started pounding. My head kept tilting to one side which made it hard for me to relax. I wanted my head to just be straight so I could focus on not focusing on anything in particular. I couldn't get "comfortable" in the water; my shoulders are always doing weird stuff on dry land and they felt like they were doing weird stuff in the water. At home I have to "pop" them a lot and even in the water I felt the urge to pop them. I tried popping one but nothing doing so, I just ignored that urge... I got nauseated even though I've been on boats before and have never gotten sea sick. The nausea lasted about half hour post-float. I thought, at one point, I saw a roach in the pod w/ me. RIDICULOUS, I know. Turns out it was just a dark colored nick in the material of the pod that looked like it was moving LMAO! At certain points I was just ready for the session to be over. I was growing tired and with a headache and nausea, I was over it. I was anxious to get out when the session was officially over but then the drama of trying to get myself together in a timely manner (that their introduction video specifically made mention of) became a new thing for me to stress over. I'm not able to shower, wash, condition and de-tangle my hair in a matter of minutes. But because I knew they needed to get in the room to clean it for the next session, I rushed through everything and wound up feeling so gross. I didn't bother to wash my hair because I need AT LEAST 30 minutes for that process alone. So I just showered my body as quickly as possible. At home, I like to dry off in a leisurely way because I absolutely HATE putting clothes on a damp body. I like to moisturize and really primp and preen out in the open air (because I get hot easily and have the luxury of living in my own space where I can walk about freely). In float the room, the temperature is set to be comfortable when you're naked. But with clothes on, and on a damp body, I just felt GROSS. Not only did I have to hurry up and get out, I WANTED to hurry up and get out. I walked out of the room, stiffly (also because I hate walking on damp bare feet) - kind of like Herman Munster. I still had a soaking wet head full of salt water. It dripped the whole way home. By the time I got in the house my entire head was crusted over white LMAO! I had to crack up at myself in the mirror. I jumped in my shower and washed, conditioned and de-tangled my hair. It took me about 30 minutes...that's just not the kind of time I think Lift has to spare between sessions. I don't know. I realize that this is just not a practical activity for someone like me to partake in. I am too particular about too many things and have a MUCH too involved bathing/grooming process that I'm pretty loyal to at this point in my life. I know Lift has a separate section (I forget what they call it) where you can use a mirror and a blow dryer but what I need is a full bathroom that is NOT connected to an actual float room. I need to be able to wash that salt out of my hair at my own pace while not inconveniencing staff/the next session. With ALL that said, I would not go back. It's just too expensive and too inconvenient for me to try again. Plus, like I said, I don't think I'm someone for whom this "works." I thought maybe I'd sleep incredibly that night just from having the experience. Nope. Went home and had the same mediocre sleep I have any other night LMAO. I'm sorry - this was just my experience. As you can see the overwhelming majority of reviews are glowing and that's good. I'm definitely in the minority so take my experience with a grain of Epsom salt. read more

This last visit the temperature seemed warm in my room which felt kind of suffocating during my float. Can't say for sure whether this was just my perception or not but I haven't felt that before. The guy at the front desk didn't even look up at me when I was leaving so I decided not to mention it as there were other people sitting near the entrance and I didn't want to be a bummer. I use to love this place but with popularity and growth it has lost charm and professionalism. I use to go here to relax and get a break from my day to day life, now it's a bigger headache coming here than it is just to try to decompress at home. The front desk are just worthless and they aren't problem solvers, if anything is wrong, they look to u for answers though it's not your business. You make the trip to come here and honestly the staff are bitchy, rude, and don't have any concern to make your experience pleasant. It's almost like walking into a doctors office now, it needs to be hospitality driven and like a spa, set a tone and service so you can relax and make use your visit to the fullest, I'm Over this business. Lift could not be cleaner, more relaxing, or more pleasant. From the greetings at the door to the rooms to the tea station and couch area when you come out. I had never "floated" before and wasn't entirely sure what to expect. I "experimented" in the pool with suggestions (shut eyes, lay back, move a little).... Wow. I see why athletes and folks with relaxation needs come here. The pool takes care of/supports everything for you. I think it was a little long for me...but I feel that way in massage, too. At 39 weeks pregnant there are few things that I find relaxing these days. I had my first float today and it was amazing! I have been having a lot of pressure in my hips and legs and this really helped. Gina was extremely helpful in making me feel comfortable and catering to my situation. The whole experience was so relaxing and I left feeling better than I have in a while. I wish I had done this throughout my entire pregnancy. All in all I'm pretty disappointed with Lift Floats. My first visit was plagued with construction sounds from somewhere in the building. When I mentioned it up front all they said was 'yeah that sucks'. Um.... ok. I'm paying $90 to experience isolation, its full of noise, and all I get is 'that sucks'?? Cool, thanks. It took me a long time to go back, but I did after a particularly stressful time. Things had changed a bit - I wasn't wild about being full on barefoot in the entire facility, and they make you watch a video whether or not you've been before. This time the tank definitely had wayyyyyyyyyyyy too much salt. Way, way too much. It made parts of my body burn that should never burn, left a crust of salt on the parts of me that weren't submerged, and the tank itself was heavily crusted in salt (making me think they dont get wiped down between users?) They offer some nice products by the blowdry station (yay!) but they were empty (oh....) so I just dried the major wetness out and went on with my day. So this is my first time at a sensory deprivation location. As you first walked in, the place was very very warm. It was nice being away from the outside cold but it was a tad too warm. Staff was very friendly and it was nice to get an educational video beforehand. the room itself was great. Roomy enough to change and shower but cozy enough too. I had the bed pod where you can control the lights and music. I only wished there was another option for music since i became quite bored towards the end of my session. The soap that was provided was very watery. But all else was great. I only hoped for the pod water to be a tad hotter but i'm also a fan of showering with very hot steamy water. Besides that...it was comfortable laying in there for an hour. After your session you can relax in the lounge and enjoy complimentary tea and coffee. I think overall the experience was great. I felt as if they could have warmed up the place with more cushions to offset all the concrete and exposed brick material. read more

Floating in the dark for an hour...whaatt?! I was recommended to try this Sensory Deprivation Tank thing by a friend who did this in another state. I was looking around for a place in the city to take another friend who completely needed to destress. From what I found, Lift is the only place that looks the most professional. We read and prepared ourselves for our sessions from their website which has all the information you need. The facility was very clean and has a nice calming feel. We chose to be in the room rather than the pods because we felt like we would feel claustrophobic with the pods. Each room is for one person only and you do not need to wear a swimsuit (we wore ours because the rendering in the website has a lady wearing bikinis but later we were told that we could have floated naked). The receptionist explained the process and answer any of our questions. My friend's session was at 2PM and mine was at 2:30PM. I went into my room, took a shower and got into the room. There is starlight in the room and lighting at the bottom of the tub. I loved the starlight but I really want the full experience of sensory deprivation so I turned everything off. In the beginning of the float, I thought to myself "this is going to be a while. How am I going to be able to lay here for an hour?!" But after, I don't know how long, instead of my buzzing thoughts, all I could hear was my breathing and my heart beats and all I could see was complete darkness. And then I went somewhere else! I don't know how to explain it but only that I went into the deepest part of myself. I had never experienced such thing and it was completely out of this world! When my hour was up, music started playing, I turned on the starlight and floated just a little bit longer just to absorb my experience. It wanted to float there all afternoon! I came out and talked to my friend about her experience and I was so surprised that she actually floated for the whole session! She's a kind of lady that goes a hundred miles an hour with 2 small children. She was nervous before her session that she wasn't going to be able to turn it all off but she did! This place just opened about 3 weeks ago and I highly recommend it. read more

I'd been wanting to try floating/sensory deprivation since before Lift made its debut, and heard many good things about the positive effects on stress. After a stressful week, I booked a session on a whim and went out to give it a try, only nominally knowing what to expect. The experience itself is pretty neat. You shower beforehand within your room and then start your session inside the tank. And yes, you really do float (you couldn't NOT float if you tried). I opted for the starlight effect on the room - I briefly tried the pitch-black option, and it wasn't for me (at least not this time - made me slightly panicky). The room option (vs the pod) doesn't play music while you're floating (only at the end to indicate your session is over ), but that was OK. You really do lose track of time when you are inside, and it's nice to have no distractions whatsoever. I'm a Type A person who kept thinking during the session about the assorted tank tricks one could do while weightless in the water (... but I imagine Type B people don't need to go to sensory deprivation tanks anyway, if we want to get technical). It's a good place to meditate and/or just focus on your breathing. Some have mentioned that you also become aware of any tender or weak spots on your body - totally true. But it's very relaxing as an experience, and that night, I slept like a rock, which is a major bonus for me and not something that often happens. I'd be remiss if I didn't say the customer service could be a tad friendlier. When I walked in, the receptionist was giving tips to a customer who'd just come out of a float. I wasn't acknowledged for several minutes (I was the only other one there) - I don't think it would take much to say "I'll be with you in a moment" while you finish up with whoever you're with. Once I was acknowledged as standing there, he even said "you're ------, right? " (I booked online. ) So he knew who I was, but was sort of brushed off as I stood there. Hm. He explained the room to me, no problems there. Then when I finished my float (I was the last of the night and no one else was in the facility), there was no acknowledgement as I went to leave -- unless I had asked the building address as I grabbed a car (a Lyft - ha), I'm not sure anything would have been said as I walked out the door. No "thanks" or "how did you like your first float" or whatever. I'm not overly chatty in these situations and I don't need coddling as a customer, but it was strange/awkward to be virtually ignored twice. Anyway, other than that, there's really nothing like the experience itself and no other flotation places like this in all of NY, so I'm giving 4 stars. Don't knock it until you've tried it. read more

The staff is warm, professional and very supportive of first timers like I was answering all my questions and concerns. The warm salt water cradles you better than any object could. A lot of my face was above the water and there was no fear of slipping under. As I stretched out, my shoulders were hurting me until I put them in cactus mode near my head, which released all my shoulder pressure. The pod was large enough for me to fully stretch out. I slipped in and out of a deep meditation with intermittent reminders that I was floating. The only movement after you relax is your breathing which can slowly drift you into the walls and then either you stay there or push off. At one point, so relaxed, I felt like an astronaut dipping and spinning in space with zero gravity to tether me. The place is super clean and towels, shampoo, hairdryer, tea and many other amenities are provided for the full relaxing experience. read more

They have a very cozy lounge area for you to wait in while they get your room ready complete with tea and some very cool kaleidoscopes. The float rooms were very clean and the tank itself was perfect! It even has the option to float with stars on the ceiling but you can turn them off if you like it to be pitch dark. It was super relaxing and when I woke up this morning my whole body felt great! read more

Immaculate, zen, friendly and wonderful. I've been to a couple places in Manhattan and this one is another category. While other places have a pod or a room squeezed into a corner of some other type of business, Lift is a dedicated float spa. That's all they do, and they cater specifically to the float experience. This means design is minimal, lighting is soft, noise level is low, and furniture is comfortable in the space they provide and encourage you to use to re-boot. Float essentials like comfortable wax earplugs and vaseline for any scratches are provided as well. read more

Loved my first session at LNLF. The preview video explains it all if you pay attention. I had no issues and was able to completely relax in a room float. Being able to let go of every muscle was incredibly freeing. I had to move a little now and then to bring me back to the fact that I was indeed in water. I had zero problem with my neck (used the head ring), excess salt or anything other than complete calm and quiet. I will be back and will try a pod next time. read more

I absolutely love it here! Had my first experience yesterday with my sister and we definitely got lifted! Your skin and hair feel so amazing as well as your mindset. You have an hour to just float and be in your own thoughts or sleep , meditate. It is definitely worth a try. I did the room which I highly recommend. I am going back to try the pod soon!
